Or, just root the phone, easy to do. I'd also recommend that you put on custom recovery to be safe, as it can get you out of all sorts of trouble rather than having Samsung's lame recovery.
Once you've done that, install titanium backup from the store. Freeze any and all applications you want. Download your preferred applications and you are done.
Sure, you can go the extra step of putting on a third party ROM, but for most people, that's overkill.
Once you have root, a custom recovery and Titanium Backup installed, you might want to do three things:
1. Do a ROM backup from the recovery, after it's saved move to your PC. Keep it there for safekeeping.
2. Set up a backup schedule in Titanium Backup. Back up applications and data to an SD card
3. Install Xposed Framework, and then pick a good multi-porpose module like Wanam, and you can highly customize your phone without putting on a third party ROM.
All of these three things are available and easy to find in XDA. They make your experience more powerful, customizable and safer.

Thx !

Just an fyi, it actually has the stock browser included called Internet. They just changed the home page to their own, you can change it back to whatever you like.

I dont believe it was included on the S5. I was more or less replaced with one handed mode (which can be activated in the settings) and several other actions.

Can you all give me advice on custom rom decisions please?

Ok I have the Note 2 GT-N7100 on O2 UK.
I previously had the S2 and rooted the phone fine.
I have never installed a custom rom on any phones before.
What I need is advice on what I need to do for me to get rid of bloat ware, free up loads of space and customize my phone with a different look.
I'm aware a custom rom is personal preference but I just need anyone to guide me or give me advice on what needs to be done to get my phone working faster and better with more space.
Thanks,
Aaron.
If your happy with your rom you could just use titanium back up to uninstall any unwanted bloatware. For customisation there are lots of xposed mods that can really customise your phone

You don't have to do anything, really. Just always do a full wipe that's all.
To get rid of bloatware, I suggest ROM Cleaner head over to the Original Android Development section.

Well of course you need to root. If you need any help with that you could hit that root info tab on the note 2 main forum page. Also, if you are considering on flashing a ROM, I highly recommend Hawkish extreme ROM mainly due to the great battery life it gives and in your case, you can get rid of all the bloatware through the AROMA installer. But you could always get rid of bloat without flashing any ROMs by using those apps 'sawdoctor' & 'Simone' suggested.
Hawkish: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1983626
I'd suggest to root it and then use Titanium, not to REMOVE the apps you don't need but to FREEZE them. Then use the phone for a couple of days and if you don't experience any problems, you can remove the frozen apps. Much safer that way.
Thank you for the suggestions and advice.
If u like the stock rom, then go for AliianceRom. Its similar to the stock Samsung ROM with some extra features
Or else there are many other custom ROMs if u wanna try new stuffs and experiment.

Go for omega rom it's good

Please please please, once rooted, before flashing anything, backup the EFS.
Then as stated, use titanium to freeze apps before deleting them just in case.

I recommend Wanamlite.
I recommend rooted stock. More reliable than any custom rom or kernel.

[Q] Is it safe to uninstall AT&T bloatware on rooted I337UCUAMF3?

Given that there's no way to reflash the factory image, is it still safe to remove all the AT&T bloat using Titanium Backup? Right now I have all the AT&T bloatware frozen and it doesn't impact anything, but I just want to if it'll change if I completely uninstall the AT&T programs i.e. My Locker, Blurb Checkout, etc. Would this impact my ability to receive firmware updates or unroot and reset the handset? I should mention I'm probably going to be selling the phone when the Nexus 5 comes out so I still want to be able to unroot and factory reset (as long as it can reset, it doesn't bother me if the AT&T bloatware is gone).
I guess that depends on what you mean by "safe."
I removed almost all of the AT&T stuff except for the update service and the hotspot app, and I know I'll never miss them even without a recovery option.
If you need a recovery option, then probably best to not remove anything and use Safestrap to experiment with other roms.
Don't delete it, freeze it. That way if you mess something up you can defrost it.
If your on MF3 I wouldn't touch anything and just use safestrap.

There is always risk.
I learned the hard way... I touched too much stuff with Tibu on my stock ROM and it doesn't even work anymore. I can't do anything with it... luckily I have safestrap still until they release an mf3 factory image for Odin or kies I can't do anything with my stock ROM.

About the time you posted this last night I was freezing apps. Apparently too many. Phone will not boot past the at&t logo now. I can still boot into my custom rom slot 1 so I'm not at a total loss, but would really like to know if there is anyway to replace/defrost those frozen apps on the stock ROM via the ADB terminal running on my custom ROM. Seems like you could just copy and overwrite the package files on the stock ROM... Which leads me to my ultimate question of what does TiBackup Freeze option actually do? Uninstalling would remove the app and files from the system completely so since they are still present it seems there would be some sort of a control file that you could edit manually to defrost the app(s) in question.
Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
I've read a few times that best buy can do a factory restore, yet every time someone says they are going to ask their "friend" at best buy for the method/procedure for the restore they drop off the grid... Is this a possibility?

I don't recall the urls but there are already a few in-depth lists of safe bloatware to remove from our phones..
@xda_n I'm not too sure I'm still researching on this, but haven't really been actively looking for it. Not in a rush really because I'm not going to sell my phone or anything so I'm just going to wait on Samsung to release the mf3 file via Odin or kies. I'm just using vision-x and shostock which is giving me better battery and performance than stock and still have stock feel so I'm not in too much of a rush to fix my stock ROM yet. My stock ROM would boot but it would say com.android. something and it'll freeze. I accidently tried to do a factory reset after deleting all the apps via tibu so I couldn't recover any files I saved and froze so i learned my lesson and don't want to deal with best buy right now.

Question about rooting for first time (4.4)

I've never rooted a phone before and I'm a little nervous about doing so. I don't fully understand the difference between all the various ROM's. For instance are there advantages and disadvantages between the different ROMs that are floating around? Also what happens when 4.4 comes out? I'm assuming I'd be blocked from Updating. Would I have to wait until someone releases a 4.4 ROM? The main reason I want to Root is to remove all the useless apps Samsung/Tmobile stuck on my phone, but when I check out the processes, I don't even see that they are running. Would it even be worth it to root if this is the only reason I am doing it for?
I also see people talking about removing TouchWiz once they are rooted. I already am using Nova, but if I remove TouchWiz, will I just have the basic Android UI like I had on my Nexus? Or will I have to stick with a 3rd party launcher? Does removing TouchWiz result in a noticeable speed difference?
Hey rooting isn't for everyone. You could root and get rid of certain apps and bloatware. What I did before rooting was just disable and hide those apps.
It was fine but then as root user for a long time, I rooted and now use it more to tweak the look and feel.
The best way to know a rom is to try it.
I have used alot on this forum but currently feel comfortable with Omega Rom v6 with Wanam Xposed.
The possibilities are endless and as long as you understand the Knox flag then you should be free to try and do what you will.
Last if you ever want to just go back to stock and leave it there with updates it's pretty easy.
Sam mobile has always the latest updates available to download and you install those with Odin.
Good luck

Thanks for the response! May I ask how you disabled and hid the apps without rooting?
Nevermind actually, I figured out how to turn them off from the App info screen. But is there a way to hide them so they don't show up at all?
Edit: lol nevermind again. They disappear when you turn them off. Thank you so much for letting me know about this! I had no idea this was possible

[Q] Kingo Root Not Working

I have a Verizon Note 3 running 4.4.2 and I'm trying to root with Kingo. I get through the process up until it checks my root status. It gets past that to 'Downloading requesite dependency files' and it instantly fails and just says Not Support. Any help?

you want a stock firmware file?
here you go ! http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/3/?download=29319
you will have to register for firmwares,,,
unfortunately, touchwiz is the stock app for verizon stock roms... the new launchers for the S5 work on the note.. check that link in the other post
i think what you may be looking for with a rooted note 3 is a deodexed rom.. you can delete system files easily... just use "titanium Backup" its in this rom for the 4.2.2 and 4.4.2 and its easy to do if you follow this method here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2787627
or use clockwork mods equivalent, "trebuchet"

in the pic here, all that gobbledeegook speek where your normal "?about phone" should be , tells you this is a vzw note 3, Nc4 stock rooted, ported to T-Mobile Lte , "G" edition (S5 ported) on non-user-ship (non-stock) kernel.
or basically,
using a verizon note 3 as a T-mobile Samsung Galaxy S5, with all of its features, save the one~~ it's not waterproof. , which of course , is in that thread i linked
so there's a;lot you can do with your phone, as it may seem too complicated now, you may want to stick to simpler mods that you can download from google play store, like a different boot animation, meaning to say that instead of the huge red logo you see when you initially turn on yo0ur phone, you can change it to supermario running accross the screen, or that green matrix i/o screen. they may have added more by now, its up to you if that is something you may ne interested int there, or at least its a place to start.as you can see, perhaps a more correct assumption would be to say you cant run touchwiz and another launcher, say Google NOW...... at the same time.
Well, this was originally longer but the forum decided to post limit me because I am new. If you want a Google type experience, you might want to try the Google Experience Launcher (can be side loaded, but won't install from play store). I use this with Xgels and am very happy with the results.

[Q] Imperium ROM GT-i9505 problems

Hey there,
Can anyone help me?
I've installed imperium ROM for my galaxy S4 (GT-i9505, android 4.4.2) , but I ran across a couple of problems, which only started after flashing the "S5 Ultra Pack v2.4". The problems are:
1. My home button does not work anywhere. I can whack it, crush it, spam it etc etc. it won't go to my home screen. It does work however to wake up my screen
2. My notification bar does not show any notifications, nor can I extend the quick slots in the upper part.
3. The minitbattery app keeps force closing with the message "outdated, please update to a new version."
I tried reflashing the ultimate pack, and since I already deleted the imperium zip (I am not a smart man) I haven't tried reflshing that yet. Would still mean I'd have to wipe everything again . If there is anyone who can help me out, it would be much appreciated!
Just reflash the rom you are currently on. If that doesnt work, do a full wipe and flash again.

Well, I had wiped everything before flashing the rom, so I had touchwiz for a while until I installed solo, however I did have solo already when flashing the before mentioned pack.
P.S. I fixed the problem by doing a wipe, everything is working fine now.
