Ok, just rooted my sgs4. No problems, except I downloaded cwm and it doesn't work. Can't even boot into recovery. Honestly, I just want to make nandroid backup before before I do anything else. Suggestions?

I prefer philz recovery (jflte)
I've flashed and restored countless roms and have had zero issues, it's also constantly updated [emoji106]

Yes, if you don't want to use Odin you can just install goo manager from the Play store, open app, settings, install open script recovery, you will now have twrp as your recovery, then just flash the zip(philz recovery jflte zip) with twrp, reboot recovery, you will now be on philz, lots of people like twrp also, I just prefer philz

Thanks. Goo worked. But, can't get into recover by powering down then holding power, home, and vol up. Can only get into it through goo. Is that normal, or did I do something wrong. No big deal, but just wondering why it's like that.

Weird, in order to get into recovery you just need to hold the power and volume up button when starting phone or just volume up when rebooting , you can also use wanam and pick power settings, add reboot to recovery.. If your just going to stay on stock rooted and debloat, theme ect, DL Xposed framework and use wanam, gravity box ect.. Xposed is a great app

Hi,
It seems that I have CWM and recovery installed on my Nexus 4. I was on TWRP previously and switched to CWM, now it seems that it is stucked.
I erased recovery in command prompt and flash it with CWM after installing stock ROM but ROM Manager still detected TWRP. How do I get rid of TWRP?

try flashing stock recovery via adb
If you reboot into recovery does CWM come up or TWRP? If it's CWM then ignore ROM Manager and continue as normal

So you are suggesting that I erase and flash to stock recovery via adb and then flash custom recovery again?

CWM comes up as the recovery because it's the latest one I flash. I know it might now matter but this really bugs me.
Dunno why you're using ROM Manager anyway, pointless piece of software IMO. Just flash everything manually
Mine was gone when i unrooting the device

Is there a way just to unroot but keep my ROM, kernel and data intact?

That's normal. I have it too. Just choose cwm on recovery already installed and leave it like that.

Flash Philz Touch recovery from here http://www.google.nl/url?sa=t&rct=j...oYgAjwGhpXgFeQpbRFsAaOQ&bvm=bv.50310824,d.ZWU. Download the .tar file and flash with Odin 3.04 in PDA. Imo the best recovery atm with the least issues.

Hi. How do I removed / uninstall Philz Touch 5 because I want to try TWRP 2.6.3.0. I had installed Goo Manager and installed TWRP but rebooting to Recovery, it will reboot to Philz TOuch's recovery.
Thank you.
flash this twrp 2.5.0.3 zip in recovery and then reboot recovery. see if it sticks. if it does, stay on that version. i've heard it works better than the newer releases. cheers
Just flash TWRP in your recovery

I did flash the 2.6.3.0 using Goo Manager but when in rebooted in REcovery it was still the Philz Touch that opened.
Thank you.

You can't use that to do it. You have to take that zip file that beerdroid posted and save it to your sd card. Save it in the root so it's easy to find. You have to boot into Philz and flash that zip.
I don't ever recommend the Goo Manager. There has been so many people that has had problems with it, especially after flashing a new ROM. It's not because it's a bad program, it's because sometimes when you flash a new ROM the prop changes so it tricks Goo Manager.

I'm experiencing the same thing. TWRP wasn't able to load the Cyanogenmod SNAPSHOT, but Philz did and I don't have WiFi just like when I loaded the unstable version so I'm trying to delete Philz and it won't go away. Why did my TWRP disappear? arghhh...... I wish I had a Nexus 5.

You still need to flash recovery after you rooted. so download a custom recovery and flash it or use goomanager and use the install openrecovery script option to install twrp
Use odin to flash philz touch recovery

Hello the other day I was trying to flash a ton and I soft bricked my phone. I could only use one file in Odin to get it back working. I am currently running 4.4.2 and I cannot get a safestrap to work. Is there any methods to make this work or any way to get a custom recovery in order to flash roms? I would appreciate any help in this matter.

Which version of SS were you using that failed? Did you try the latest SafeStrap 3.75 B04 for KK?
I sure did. I tried all sorts of different ones and still nothing. It works like normal. I install the recovery the when I hit reboot into recovery it shuts down like it is going to reboot but nothing. I can't turn it on I have to pull the battery and then restart. On boot up it doesn't show the safestrap screen where you can choose normal or recovery start up...
Do you have busybox installed and is it updated?

Assuming the answer to @czach5932 question is no, then you will have to install BusyBox first. You would need to TowelRoot first, then dl BusyBox & run it, then install your SuperSU and SS.
Once you have done all of those steps, in that order, then you will have the splash screen of joy and you can then flash ROM's.
Keep in mind that you will have to follow the OP of the ROM of your choosing to verify whether you need to flash the NC2 firmware, but lets not get ahead of ourselves, lets make sure you get the splash screen first-
I just noticed you said you hit the reboot into recovery from the app. In the OP for the safestrap thread it says the reboot into recovery button isn't working. It also says an uninstall and reinstall might help. What I suggest is to open the app, uninstall recovery (if possible) uninstall safestrap, reinstall safestrap, open the app and reinstall recovery, and reboot like normal (from the power button) and a splash screen should come up during boot to either select recovery or continue. Also remember a lot of people have had problems using Rom slots do I would durst to just use the stock slot like a normal recovery

so i finally got it working i installed the recovey the uninstalled safestrap the installed it again and reinstalled the recovery and rebooted. it did work i got the splash screen. so now im backing up the stock rom and going to try install a rom on another slot. how does that sound?

You can install roms on the other slots but you might have some performance issues such as battery drain. As long as you are making a backup of your stock rom you can recover it if things go haywire. Most of the roms are advised to use the stock slot but some people have had luck installing on other slots and the roms ran fine. You can try for yourself and see what you get.
+1
like I said a lot of people have had problems using Rom slots. You can use the stock slot just like a regular recovery. Backup and if you mess something up just restore to the stock slot and try again

Need help with smn900v safestrap
I have tried installing and reinstalling all versions of safe strap. I tried installing in a specific order as suggested in the forum, no luck. When I hit boot into recovery, it just reboots then goes black and I have to remove the battery and hold the power down to get it to boot up again. Here is some info on my phone:
build number: kot49h.n900vvrucnc4
model number: smn900v
Android os: 4.4.2
baseband version: n900vvrucnc4
kernal version 3.4.0
security software version: mdfv1.0 release 2
Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm rooted with towelroot, installed busy box, installed supersu.
Like I said in the above post (and OP of safestrap) the reboot into recovery button inside the safestrap app doesn't work. You need to just have everything installed and reboot like normal (power button - reboot) and a splash screen will come up allowing you to select recovery during the boot process

I figured I would ask here. I am not able to do an advanced wipe in TWRP Safestrap. It fails everytime. What is a good solution for cleaning the internal memory of my device? Thanks
