rooting dilemma Kingoapp safety - Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Rooted my MJE build with Kingoapp but then trying to upgrade to the leaked KitKat I made a mistake and got a soft brick. So reverted back to MJE stock and then started reading all the safety concerns on Kingoapp (not being open sourced, sending your IMEI to foreign servers, etc)
Tried root de la vega about ten times but each time resulted in a error in ODIN and a sot brick bringing me back to stock MJE. Are the issues with Kingoapp still exist? any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

I believe that whole deal with Kingo has been somewhat solved. Many people have used it, including me. The only other solution is vroot, which installs a couple Chinese applications on your phone. You have to use an older version of Kingo for it to work though, for some reason the newer versions aren't working for most. Search for a download of 1.1.6 (I believe that is the version that was working).

# on SC-04E(docomo GS4 works), now a couple questions

Hello, I just rolled the dice and discovered cf autoroot for the 9505 does work for the Japanese DoCoMo Galaxy S4 (SC-04E). would this mean the recoveries are also the same. I wan to pull the radio and help out with your thread. Ive had several android devices(desire, desire HD, GS3; which was a bit of a support nightmare because it was so unlike other GS3s. on the other hand the HTCs were easy and all I had to do was maintain my japanese radio) so im not new to rooting. But Noone that ive seen has tried a recovery and the firmware is not yet on sammobile. think I should wait a bit or what steps should I take to attempt to install a recovery without bricking. will it just reject it or is there a potential for a brick? Hell i may be the first to attempt root that phone just came out yesterday. after toying around it appears to be a partial root, some apps requiring root access work, and some dont. also the stock recovery and NFC are dead. Ill hold off until the stock image gets posted on sammobile

[Q] Root Help

I opened my Note this morning and it is still running the MI9 build. I have rooted many phones in my android days, and was brought learning never take any OTA updates, which I haven't yet.
I don't know if I should use the Universal Root de la Vega, because it seems to me that it is only for newer builds, but I may be mistaken. I just want to get root and don't know if I should update or what to use or do next.
If anyone can point me in the right direction I would appreciate it. Some steps would help too, but you don't have to be too specific because like I said, I already have quite a bit of prior root experience.

Congrats on the Note 3. What you want to do first is find the MJE Odin flashable STOCK build over in the VZW development section. Flash that which will bring you to current MJE non rooted.
Then google Kingo root to root rather than Root de la Vega(obsolete now for MJE)

[Q] Root 4.3 Note 3 Verizon

Is there a straight forward method to rooting without tripping knox? I'm on MJE I think. Can someone post a link for a site with good directions? Thanks.
Anyone know? I had a Note 3 on 4.4 but got another via warranty replacement and it came with 4.3. I'd like to know before taking the 4.4 OTA.
Tried Kingo and it failed.
Thanks
just check the stickies like this one.
I have but nothing was really specific. It said the De Las Vega and Kingo could do it, but Kingo failed and i don't want to use Vega and lose everything.

[Q] Upgrading to KK and using towelroot?

Has anyone used the towelroot method to root? I'm still on JB firmware (BTU MK2) with root and knox 0x0, im wanting to upgrade to KK but im not sure of which course of action to take.
I'm thinking of installing a pre-June KK firmware but im not sure which one to install (region doesn't really bother me as long as it's english and not AUS). What do you guys think, any advice?
I'm tossing up between flashing the XSP NE4 rom or the BTU ND3 rom and then rooting using towelroot. Has anyone had any issues with these 2 roms, especially battery issues?
Towelroot preserved Knox 0 for me and it was pretty painless, twice already, MI7 to NF4 and now to NF9, so yes it works great at least for me. In my case battery sucked really bad after each update, but it was suggested to me to do full factory reset, as this supposed to work for many. Instead I decided to do exactly what I root my phone for, freeze/delete useless factory bloatware. It worked after first update, I'm still working on it after second, since I just did it couple days ago. On the other hand I'm not sure those updates are even worth the trouble, not much new that I can see, mostly internal stuff. Also originally I SIM and region unlocked my phone using Chainfire program, but I think all that is gone now and I don't think there is new unlock method, so I may regret this update in the future if I travel. And then there is this SD card nonsense that can show up with older programs, so frankly I don't know, choose your poison, but again, towelroot works fine, the question is: is it worth to upgrade.

I Want to Root, But The Cell Gods Will Not Allow It

I have a Note 3 (SM-N900W8 - Telus) that I have had for about 6 months. I have had an original Galaxy S and an S3 which were both rooted.
My phone updated to Lollipop so I had to forgo rooting since everything I read said I couldn't root 5.0 with the new bootloader.
I read about downgrading to Kitkat 4.4.2 so I could root and yesterday I took a chance and did it. I used the official 4.4.2 ROM from Sammobile
and using Odin, I flashed it and after a few tries, I got it to work. Now that I am back on Kitkat, I tried Kingroot (the APK) and it failed to root
my phone.
De La Vega now says it can not root 4.4.2, so my question is, is 4.4.2 rootable? I have read a lot about rooting and there are so many opinions
about what works and what doesn't that I wanted to post here to see if I could get a consensus about this. I know many people are rooted
on 4.4.2, but I just want to know the best way without tripping Knox.
Thanks,
Ian
Anyway, I used Kingo Root on my PC to root my Note 3 and it worked. Knox was not tripped and everything works properly.
