[Q] detect ntfs external hdd with usb otg (official rom) - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
can you guys tell me how to detect ntfs hdd with usb otg on official kitkat rom?bcoz i stored all my data on ntfs hdd which i cant reformat to exfat
before i upgraded to kitkat, i flash the adam kernel then install a software called paragon. then it works
as you know adam kernel did not support kitkat. so, is there any other way?without adam kernel, the paragon software did not detect ntfs
ah yes, i really would like to stick with the official rom for the mean time...so there's no chance i'd flash a third party rom
thanks in advance for the help.....

[Q] Any idea why my WD external disk is not recognized by TF?

I've been ripping and saving movies onto an external WD drive, with the intention of plugging the drive into the dock to stream local movies...
But my TF shows the drive as "USBDrive" and "unavailable"....greyed out.
Do i need to do something so the TF recognizes it?
I just checked....the file system is NTFS....not recognized by TF..
What a hassle, now I have to take all the movies off and reformat it...
I wonder if there is an easier way?

If you're running a custom ROM you can use Netformer's kernel.
It work for NTFS
I just plugged my WD 500GB external USB3 drive in and it works fine and it's NTFS..
I have a Corsair Flash Survivor USB drive formatted as NTFS and my TF picks it up just fine. When you first got your drive and plugged it into your computer did you need any special drivers to be installed for whatever reason, before you could read/write stuff to it? The answer's probably no but thought I would ask just in case...
no...no special drivers needed.
I'm running magnusupreme rom ultimate 3....
clemsyn kernel
Thanks for the help...I downloaded the Kernel manager...installed netarchy's kernel and everything is working great...
appreciate it.
The stock kernel supports NTFS too.

Dave
yeah..the stock kernel supports NTFS very well..but not all custom kernels

stickmount + exfat fs

USB Host Diagnostics reports that it can detect my USB device.
My rooted Nexus 7 has Stickmount and I would like to read and write to the exfat filesystem.
Does the stock kernel support exfat, I am wondering if this is the problem that I can't see any files on the USB Key.
If so, has anyone compiled the exfat.ko or have some workaround ?
I am fairly sure that the USB-OTG cable is fine, it's been recommended several times
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Aftermarket...ef=?ie=UTF8&m=ADSCLDKL0FHCQ&tag=5336653508-21
Using my rooted stock kernel with StickMount, I was unable to see any files on my USB drive formatted as exFAT.
I tested the same drive formatted as NTFS and FAT32 and they worked just fine. Searching around other forums, it looks like the stock kernel doesn't support exFAT.
It's possible that a custom kernel could support it, but I haven't found any specific kernels with exFAT support.

[Q] USB host controller issue

No device connected to the micro USB host through OTG cable is detected. Neither mouse nor keyboard or (micro) SD Card. The kernel claims to support USB host controllers. Checked with three different OTG cables, all sold claiming to work with Nexus 7.
Everything was also checked on stock ROM and kernel (JDQ39) unrooted and rooted.
Same cables work like charm with my i9305 Galaxy S 4 LTE just as Stickmount and Nexus 7 Media Importer (mouse, keyboard, storage).
Nothing works however with my Nexus 7. I feel very frustrated and cannot resolve this issue no matter what I try.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Nexus 7 grouper, rooted, Stickmount, Busybox installed
OS: JDQ39 based Smooth rom 5.1
Kernel: M-Kernel 3.1.10
Try a different kernel... Bugs do happen so OTG might be brought ken on that kernel.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
PS: I know bricked worked, I thought Franco's worked too. Dunno bout M-Kernel, I actually avoided that kernel because it didn't look like USB-OTG support was in it when I searched the thread.
Thanx answering
I'll try Franko. As I remember, M-kernel has OTG support. But
Shouldn't even stock kernel support keyboard and mouse over OTG?
And why does the Nexus Media Importer app not work either? That
doesn't even take root...

Depends on how you're implementing it. I know with apps like StickMount and OTG Helper, they won't automatically start media scanner on the new device unless you have the paid version.
The rom in my Sig actually has USB-OTG support for the Nexus 7 built in (would still need a kernel that supports it of course), so it automatically mounts a thumbdrive, and it shows up under Settings -> Storage , and shows as USB Storage and you can unmount it from there, acts just like an SD card would on other phones. Only downside is no exFat support (nor NTFS I think). Stickmount can do it but you have to provide the exfat binaries in /sdcard.

Stickmont free detects connected USB storage immediately and mounts it. The USB drive and the files on the device connected by
OTG can be seen by any file explorer in a normal case. Also, when connecting mouse and/or keyboard (even wireless)
via OTG/OTG&USB hub a USB icon and a USB device connected message should pop up in the notification
bar. Nexus Media Importer app should also see the connected device if formatted FAT32.
At least, that's how it works on my Galaxy S3 using the same hardware ( 3 different OTG cables,
mouse, keyboard, USB sticks, memory cards, etc.)
I have flashed four different kernels (M, Motley, Franko, Stock). There is a significant difference in
performance but unfortunately not in USB host device detection behaviour.
I do appreciate all your helping effort. Thx

how to make note 3 read USB flash disk

my question is how can i make note 3 (9005) read USB flash disk? can any one help me in this problem?
Kitkat can still read flash drives. What did you do ash? You catch'em all with your pokeballs? Lol
What format is your flash drive? NTFS or FAT32?

NTFS is not supported. Please reformat it to FAT32.
NTFS can be supported through a mod though.
Android itself has never supported NTFS drives. Only Asus Tranformer devices support NTFS via third party drivers (Because of the USB port.)
Fat32 and exFAT are supported though.
FAT32 only supports files up to a maximum of 4GB. Useless for Semi-HD and Full-HD films.
exFAT supports files up to 16EB (ExaByte) (max file size in exFAT is redundant, since there aren't any drives commercially available over 5TB. Even the collective size of the entire internet is only 5EB.)
My advice, use exFAT.
I think ROM Toolbox comes with driver called Paragon NTFS, that should work with OTG USB NTFS storage, but you need to be rooted. I think this is the only alternate option to reformatting all your external storage to exfat, which may not be practical. Or do it Apple way, transfer data between 2 devices sitting next to each other, half across the globe and back using itunes, I mean cloud, like dropbox.
Thanks guys sooooo much
. ☺
But how can i make my phone read ntfs?

NTFS Support

Am trying to connect my External hard drive "NTFS" through OTG (AICP 7.1 stock kernel) but failed to do so even with all 3rf party apps.
Anyone can help me to do so, is the kernel must support NTFS or any other way?
LG G2 D802 AICP 7.1
The G2 is able to handle NTFS. It the drive. External hdds are always (ok, 98%) powered by the USB-port its connected to. The G2 can't do this.
It should be only software issue. I personally use flash drives and 2.5" HDD without problem powered via OTA (same as data transfer), only 3.5" HDD needs separate power source. I use stock based Lollipop ROMs with Dorimanx's kernel and Paragon exFAT, NTFS & HFS+ app - works tremendously!
Am using 2.5" HDD aicp 7.1 but not working paragon can't see it although its powered and display corrupted disk
