[Q] Proximity sensor problems - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi. My proximity sensor works only when I'm in rooms with good lighting. In other situations it just locks at "near" state and I'm not able to turn on screen during calls (and it never locks at the "far" state). I haven't replaced any phone parts and don't have screen protector. Is there any way to calibrate or disable it without root? OS: standard 4.4.2.

Proximity Sensor- WORKAROUND Please Test

Hi all,
I've installed TouchLockPro as suggested at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5254295#post5254295
Initial testing seems to prove that it has fixed the problem, well it's a workaround.
It senses (via the G sensor) if the phone is held upright during a call and turns the screen off- no need to rely on the poor proximity sensor.
Please test and let me know how you get on.
There doesn't seem to be any config- just install and it works.
If your proximity sensor does not work then return the device. I have no problems with it at all. Only think I would say is for it to also switch things on/off when phone not in use.
I used to have problems with the proximity sensor but it's been working perfectly since I upgraded to 1.48.
FYI- The proximity sensor does work on my phone. It just proves to be intermittent at sensing- this has been documented by other users.
The main problem is that it doesn't work very well next to hair. So I don't have any problems with the proximity sensor, but my wife (with long hair) does.
proximity sensor works fine for me as long as I don't use the keypad during a call; once i enter anything during a call (like calling card number, extensions etc) the proximity sensor stops working.
I think this bug doesn't show up when using the wired headset, have to confirm this though.
After two weeks testing I found out that the original screen protector with the two holes for the sensor makes the problems!!!
thake the screen protector out or cut it and the proximity sensor will work perfect.

[Q] Question regarding sensors and java implementation

Hi guys,
I need my app to check if the phone face is covered when the screen unlocks.
I've acomplished this by creating a service to get datas from the proximity sensor. The problem is that it isn't energy efficient as the proximity sensor is checking non-stop until the screen is turned on.
Is there any better way to accomplish this or other sensor to use just to verify if the phone is covered by the moment when the screen is turned on?
Thanks!

[Q] What mod allows you to disable the in-call proximity sensor?

Hi everyone,
Long story short, I got a used Nexus 4 off someone, everything works perfectly except the proximity sensor. During a call the screen blacks out and doesn't come back unless I hard reset the phone to hang up. I figured out it was a problem with the proximity sensor. Upon reading these forums and many other articles on Google about taking off the screen protector (which I don't have) and swapping the rubber "sensor" holder holes, I decided to open the phone up and take a look.
It appears that my phone is missing the rubber piece to hold the proximity and light sensors in place, making the sensor unusable and causing many issues with making calls. I've tried playing around with it using other peoples' suggestions and nothing has worked. I've decided to just find a way to disable the proximity sensor instead during a call, as I'll be quite satisfied with just a simple software fix.
Right now I am using Proximity Screen OFF to keep the screen on, but it drains my battery pretty hard. I was thinking to just flash my phone with a mod that allows me to turn the proximity sensor off during a call.
Any suggestions as to which mod contains this feature?
Thank you.

Screen stays ON during call? [Android Wear related?]

Any thoughts on how to troubleshoot this? I have a Moto X Pure 2015, no hacks/mods/etc, just straight up as it came, but the display does not shut off during a phone call. It is as if the proximity sensor is not working, but I downloaded a test app from the Play Store and it shows that the brightness AND proximity sensor are working fine. I saw some mention of an option in the phone app to enable/disable the proximity sensor but it is not there on this phone.
One additional thought... I saw some things related to bluetooth, and I do have a Zenwatch2... I shut it off, and the screen goes off now.
How messed up is THAT? Any way to fix it?
On mine it was my screen protector combined with my case. The case caused the screen protector to lift slightly at the edge and screen stayed on so I took case off... Bad call, dropped phone, cracked screen. I replaced screen and now use my case without the screen protector.

Disable Essential Phone proximity sensor

Hi all, so i poorly replaced my essential phone screen. After starting her back up, it seems as though the proximity sensor always detects something near it. During calls the screen stays dark until the other person hangs up. I have used some apps that say something is directly on it. If i am in call and pull the screen partially off, the screen lights back up as if nothing is detected by the proximity sensory. My essential phone is ROOTED so at this point im hoping to just disable the proximity sensor or at least install a mod to control the sleep during a call (via gesture, etc.) thanks in advance.
