Is it possible to Odin a retail note 3 with developer edition software or is it more complicated than that?

I remember someone posed this question before, but I have no idea where. I was also interested in the possibility of this. I think it isn't possible because something about the developer edition phone has something unique in the code that ties it to that specific device. Something in the code that is needed for a phone to be a 'developer edition'. Sorry for the vague answer, maybe someone with a better understanding can shed some light on this.

Unfortunatley this is not possible. The retail version comes with a locked bootloader and a different kernel than the DE does. Trying to flash the DE software and kernel will result in a brick every time. Wish it was possible though.

[Q] S5 changing Kernel

Dear All
This is my first time to post and use XDA, so please guild me and give me a hand. thanks
I am using Galaxy S5 LTE-A ( Korea Version SM-G906S)
Snapdragon 805,
3GB ram
Kernel version (3.10.0-1916255
Baseband
G906SKSU1ANFF
i am now facing to a problem that because its a Korea version and i am locate in Hong Kong, there are many Hong Kong local Samsung's feature i can not use and also are different then what i had with my S4 which i found it hugely inconvenience, such as the Keyboard's input are not the original, the watch on function is not working in my area, some korean words which i dont understand keep on poping up.
so i wonger if its possible i can download the S5 (G900S) hong kong Kernal to install in my G906S? so all the problem will be solved,
if not then what can i do? please give me a hand. thank you

Well according to Samsung this phone doesn't exist. Samsung swore up and down that there would be no S5 prime released.
But anyway, your idea to use the kernel from the existing S5 is exceedingly unlikely to work. You can't just transplant a stock kernel from a different model. The kernel may be nearly identical, but you have to expect at least a few differences in system level drivers and addressing which is enough to cause serious problems. An expert could probably recompile and port the kernel over, but this phone was just released and I doubt that anyone has done anything like that yet.
There probably isn't Chinese or English firmware for this model, but you check on that just in case. Also see if there is Chinese or English support in the current firmware. Failing that, you may be able to install an English or Chinese custom ROM. Once one is released that is. There is probably enough interest in the premium hardware for someone to tackle that.
Realize that you bought a Korean market only device, at least for the moment and unless Samsung releases it to more markets or a programmer takes it on as a project.. you don't have a lot of options. Hazards of being an early adopter and /or not researching your options in advance.
Also, few people outside of Korea will have any firsthand knowledge of this phone yet, so we don't know a lot of details e.g. if the bootloader is locked or much else.

Ok mate Here is the Solution that worked for me... (if you want your native Language)
1.Install Offical Firmware from sammobile.com of Canada with Product Code : XAC
2.Root your device.
3.Download Language Enabler from the Play Store
And Walla.... Work perfectly for me.

Thank you for asking the stupid question I was too afraid to ask but needed the answer too. I just successfully rooted my SM-T530NU, next I was looking for a custom recovery. Does anyone know if recoveries that say they're for the SM-T530 will work for the NU version? Specifically, I was thinking about using the TWRP in this thread but I'm nervous about using a custom recovery with a different model number. If the only difference is in fact the IR blaster then I'm inclined to believe the custom recovery is safe, I just was hoping someone could give me some feedback so I wasn't going blind. Thanks in advance, any input is greatly appreciated
hi,
just a thought about compatibility, i'm working on a rom build for the sm-t531 which i run on my sm-t530nu [it runs on both]
the sm-t53xx are largely the same as well as nearly the same as the sm-t33xx's, it's likely that as long as you keep
your kenel and modules sorted, the roms can like be used interchangeably.
Further the same rom i'm working on boots on my sm-t330nu albeit with screen glitches.
goto gsmarena andmcompare the specs between the galaxy tab 4 10.1 and 4 8.0 and youll see what i mean.
so if one variants firmware or new firmware get a new feature it's probably highly and easily portable.

Thanks for the help I was more stuck on installing a custom recovery but I gave it a try and TWRP installed successfully. Now it's time to start playing around with some ROM(s). If you just give me another day to get acclimated to this tablet and learn my way around it, I'd be happy to start testing your rom or any others, if and when they are ready to be tested
So then what is different between the t530nu and T530NZWAXAR model? I have found both and am confused. I am looking at purchasing larger screened tablet. We currently own several smaller tablets and I wish to stick with Samsung as it has been the best manufactured one for are use, but am unclear if there is a difference.

I tend to agree. I've got two of these and after a year they're both dogs. Terrible battery life, random reboots ànd both have random restarts and freezes.

[Q] SlimBean for i9505

Hi, I will probably be picking up an i9505 as a backup phone, and I'm actually really excited because it looks like I can put the final 4.3 build of SlimBean (build 2.2), which I ran on my S2 and it was honestly the most perfectly configurable rom I've ever run on a phone - as similar as a lot of the rom's that came out around that time were, that one had a couple options that I couldn't find on any others, and they made it exactly what I wanted. Anyway, so that I don't brick the phone the same day I get it, can someone confirm for me if the version listed as "jfltetmo" on the SlimRoms website is the corrrect one? This is the T-Mobile variant, but it's the only S4 listed there. The thread in the i9505 original development forum is closed, and the op lists it as being "jfltexx", but that doesn't exist on the SlimRoms site. It's baffling to try to figure out with so many different variants, so that's why I'm asking here, thanks to anyone that can help me!

Yes, jfltetmo is T-Mobile. jfltexx is the international version of the S4. The one that's neverlocked, so to say.

Of course. It is the same phone after all. The only difference is the software. It also depends on the carrier. Some lock their bootloaders.

SM-G530W root effort

Hi I'm new have pity on me,
I have a phone that is new and doesn't appear on the list of devices on this forum. I would like to contribute to the effort to gain root on my phone. I would be willing to test anything that anyone writes for this device or alternatively if someone can give me some help getting started I would be happy to try writing my own.
My phone is a SAMSUNG GALAXY GRAND PRIME SM-G530W. [Contact me for link if you can't find one as I can't post links yet]
Android: 5.1.1
Kernel: 3.10.x
This is not supported by any of the models listed on CF-Auto-Root @ [Contact me for link] nor apparently anywhere else on the internet. This is a different model and should not be confused with the SM-G530H or SM-G5306W or anything else.
I have the original firmware acquired from [Contact me for link] and can restore as necessary. I don't care about warranty, I've probably already voided it. As I am a beginner if there is some kind of safety that I might trip and completely wreck my phone please tell me .
I am happy to provide any and all additional info.
Thanks

Hi, your particular variant, the G530W is of interest to the community due to 5.1.1. Okay, for us to help you out we need hardware specs and all. So go to play store and download this app called Samsung Phone Info and open it. Post screenshots of all the information pages shown there, especially Hardware. Once we know your hardware the community can suggest root solutions to you.
To take a screenshot you can hold power and home key at once.
Thank you and awaiting the screenshots.

I am using Eastlink (in Canada). So if it is Sprint or Verizon ... I can neither confirm nor deny The firmware page does list about 10 different providers. Don't know which it would have come from first though.

The other one is also serious.
You should stop blaming. Cause diplicating or posting similar threads without event searching is against forum rules.

Hi Nonta. My apologies for the misunderstanding. I realize that these two threads must be similar because you know more than me and you have stated that they are similar. I simply have no idea how they are similar and would like to know if you have the time to enlighten me. I understand that this may be like trying to explain the colour blue to a blind man but I hope that you will take the time. I did search to find similar threads but I didn't find anything that made sense as similar to me.
Thanks,

No problem,
The fact that makes both threads similar is that both are talking about "Rooting a model of Grand Prime on Lollipop".
Neither SM-G530T nor SM-G530W are supported by CF-Root.
I'm working on this since long time, but I don't have the device and that slows down my development on the phone.
Take a look at this http://forum.xda-developers.com/note5/general/verizon-att-samsung-note-5-knox-root-t3183641 the Note 5 and S6 Edge + have Lollipop 5.1.1 and it looks like rooting the Verizon and AT&T versions on them is likely impossible (at least right now).
Keep an eye on this thread, if they come with a workaround, you probably can root yours using this same workaround.
Cool! I didn't realize that rooting was Android version specific. I though it had more to do with the hardware. I'll follow the link you mentioned. If you have anything you would like to try I am happy to test out for you.
Keep us Posted!
As I am looking for the solution to this device, Galaxy Grand Prime Sm-G530W CAD version.
I am sure others are watching this post, I've been watching and I've been watching the added linked post's with no really understanding of how the other post's relate to this one besides of course figuring out Lollipop 5.1.1.
I have the understanding that rooting these systems entails bypassing KNOX and the Bootloader. Now considering the OS version is as important as the Knox, without figuring out how to root these there won't be a solution to this device. With this device, it is important to have the proper version for the SM-G530W or the phone can be Bricked.
Please keep us up-to-date with this forum, as I'm sure others are searching for the same solution on how to root these phones. It's horrible having this as my new phone and not able to access my root features.
Hey y'all,
kernel-root-root-sm-g530t-5-1-1-t3203476
This did root my SM-G530W but I am not certain if there are any security concerns etc. Is the code safe, compromised, sending data to ISIS ?
Maybe someone out there can dissect etc and confirm the safety of this kernel mod?
But it certainly DID root the SM-G530W and yes that is a W
P.S. Sorry ShinySide for expressing my uncertainty over the security of your kernel mod. I spoke before I realized that you are a senior member and have contributed greatly to the cause. I encourage others to Donate so ShinySide can continue helping us with these things. :fingers-crossed:
I tried it and it worked. I did have to do an extra battery take out restart.
You can successfully root SM-G530W with kingroot. THIS WILL NOT TRIP KNOX!!!!!
Only downside is that you can not use SuperSu. You are forced to use their Kingroot program.
I happened to root with kingroot and when I rebooted my phone, KNOX/bootloader detected the su binaries and refused to boot, so I had to re-image my phone. use with extreme caution. using Bell Canada version of Samsung G530W

Need a Developer to Assist in Upgrade of Note 4 Developer Edition

I am looking for a Developer or someone else who is very experienced to help me upgrade my Note 4 Developer Edition to the latest version and possibly to a ROM. It's currently rooted, bootloader is unlocked, and on BOG5. All the threads out there that say safe Retal/Dev upgrade are confusing to me. I tried one in the past and it locked my bootloader and had to send it back to Sammy. I don't want that to happen again.
What little experience I have with rooting and changing ROMs are with my old Galaxy Nexus, which had way easier methods than this phone, in my opinion. I also, don't want to have to use King Root or Kingo Root because I don't want my IMEI stolen. All I need is for someone who knows what they are doing to tell me exactly what to do for my phone and its setup, help debug if I have issues, and be somewhat easily accessible by email or chat if I have questions.
I'm not a total noob at this stuff. I can't say i completely understood what I did on my old Nexus but it worked. I bricked it a few times but was able to fix it by reading forums. The margin of error for the Note 4 Dev Ed just seems to be much narrower since I am trying to avoid the shady rooting tools.
If you are interested, shoot me a private message with how much you would charge for this, briefly describe your experience level, and when you can be available to help so we can coordinate.
Thanks
