When I had a Samsung 10.1 tablet I was able to modify vfstab via init.d to allow me to swap internal memory with the sdcard. This allowed me to realise more available memory than the default 16Gb, albeit with a slight but acceptable performance hit. Try as I might I cannot achieve the same time on my S5.
Can I ask if anyone has looked into this or at best achieved a memory to SD card swap?
Thx

Also looking to swap internal to external SD... Anyone tried it?

Now if I increase the swap partition on memory by lets say 256 MB ,will I get better performance?
So what I am trying to say is bigger swap =better perf0ormance.
Bigger swap partions does not mean batter performance... at all!
Remember that your phones RAM can be read and written to faster than your SD card, the only reason we use swap is so we can get a bit extra space when we need it. What your really don't want is your phone off-loading tons of data to swap, as the read/write speed of your card will become the bottleneck, instead of the amount of storage available.
Stick with a small partition, no larger than 64MB and don't make the swappiness value too high either.
It's just there as an overflow, swap is in no way a substitute to real RAM
I am currently using cyanogens latest rom.
So I should have a 512mb extra with a 64mb swap?

Personally I don't use either, as I only have a class 2 sdcard and I don't see how anyone could need more than 300mb for apps, but whatever.
Ext is your choice and yeah, anything from 32mb to 64mb for swap (assuming swwap is automatically enabled, as I said I don't use it).
Really hoping that this is possible because it's part of the reason that I bought the 16 GB version, but I haven't heard anything about it thus far. I remember on my older devices with limited internal storage, we used Apps2SD. So the question is, will it be possible to install apps (or even data for those apps such as game install files) to a flash drive via OTG?

Bump. This is a pretty big thing I'm concerned about. Even if it isn't possible to run it directly off of USB storage, is it possible to swap apps back and forth easily?
Howdy, I have two questions.
(1). The Samsung galaxy s4 comes in 3 versions 16,32,and 64.
What class or how fast is this internal memory
(2) Is it faster to access info from internal opposed from external memory. Namely class 10
Thanks, Chris
Here is no class for the internal memory, but it will go/run at the fastest available speed. It will be faster than any sd card regardless of the sd cards class
The reason is because the memory is on hoard and built into the system where the sd has to go through a reader...kinda like having a middle man...it slows down the process - same reason why a 7200 rpm internal hard drive will always be faster then a 7200rpm external hard drive

Still doesn't mean your sd might not be faster. The manufacturers can use cheap flash to cut costs and increase profits. So you might get 64gb of slow flash internal. I'd really like to see r\w filesystem benchmarks so they'd have to start using and touting "faster" flash.
Does anyone know if it's possible to boot the A500 from an SD card rather than the internal RAM? I've seen the capability with other tablets (Nook Color, ASUS Transformer, etc.). It seems to me that accessing my external class 10 SD card is much faster than accessing the internal memory so I figured running the entire system off of the external SD might produce a performance boost. I don't mean just moving some apps there like apps2sd - I mean running the entire OS there.
In the case of the Nook Color it seems to be inherent in the hardware. If the SD card is prepped properly it will boot from it rather than the internal memory. This allows you to have two different ROMs available so you can test out one without goofing up the other. In the case of the TF701 Transformer some XDA ROM builders have moved the OS to the external SD due to the poor performance of the internal RAM.
Anyone ever looked into this? Maybe a small mod to Skrillax's boot loader or a small bootloader on the SD card called update.zip (since the system seems to run that if it's present.) I'm not an android dev so I don't know the ins and outs. Just curious to know if it might be possible.

[Q] Is there a method to increase internal storage (PIT file etc.)?
Hi,
I'm going to buy a Note 4 SM-910F, and I have some concerns about internal storage that runs low with many apps installed, even on relatively new phones like Galaxy S5 (16 GB internal storage). I know that Note 4 has at least 32 GB, but have any of you had a problem with insufficient storage, with let's say 100-150 apps installed? If so, is there a way to increase internal storage, like we could with the old Galaxy S2, for example flashing PIT file to repartition? Or we are just left with installing apps on SD card which will slow down their launch time?
Cheers.
I'm assuming that all Note 4 variants have 32GB internal storage. I have 167 apps installed on my phone, plus all the bloatware from ATT and Samsung.i can easily installanotger 150+ apps. I used to have an S2 and from what I remember, it had a partition set aside for app storage, which was relatively easy to fill up, but once you did, you'd still have room for files like music, etc.
Later Android versions changed how data was partitioned so that your personal files and app storage are now shared. So the Note 4 has plenty of app room, plus there is a built in feature that can transfer apps to external SD... if you ever need to.
Simply put, you have to be concerned about.

Didn't know about the changes in newer Android versions. Thank you for your comprehensive answer
