Yep, the battery blaster Google created in its first of the year update has been eradicated by a new version of Play Music. Now it is safe to run without sucking battery power. Another hidden feature is it now supports over 4,000 song titles and multiple folders. I can say now, it is safe to enable or install. Yippie!!!!
It never sucked my battery.

It depends on the media you run. I have both various video types, and a ton of music on a 64gb SD card. Plus I have set the system path to point to SD card for media locations.
Since the January update, Play Music Player has had issues with naming conventions, and the huge library compilations I have over 50GB of files numbering over 4,000, and that is not including 300 apps and over 3 GB of backup files as well.
I have helped a few peeps with battery issues because of Google's bad programming and Play Music Player was more problematic than any other app I have tested.
That dang thing doesn't work in many countries

Google Play Music only sucks my storage space dry. I want SD card support damn nab it >_<.

the samsung music player is not on the epic and the apk will not install at all epic fail I was looking forward to it
The epic uses touchwiz 2.5...... that's why there is no samsung player and that's also why some widgets are missing.
2.5 is also missing the ability to reorganize the icon grid and the ability to add or remove screens rom the home page..... this is due to the fact that the epic has a full qwerty (it heavily relies on landscape mode which touchwiz 3.0 is not fully optimized for.
I'm optamistic that the epic's 2.2 update will bring TW3.0 support.....
This is still the BEST galaxy s phone.

WOW REALLY?
No seriously... all the other galaxy S phones have a special music player. From what I can tell, people want it because of the 5.1 channel surround sound emulation. It's not included on the Epic.
I don't see how this has anything to do with touchwiz. It's a music player application. It should be there on the Epic..........
So... here's a crazy idea... download one.
Stupid thread title. Epic fail? Really?
The included player plays .wmv and other formats not generally found on android without a third party player so that is a plus. Otherwise once touchwiz is updated we should see the newer version.
I use btunes. It's my favorite android music player. I like its widget too. It's the only music player I've found so far that lets me view ALL songs by an artist at once instead of viewing 1 album at a time. The album option is still there though.
Also, it's laid out like the music player on the iPhone, which I was already used to before I started using android.
Honestly....
All of these FAIL threads sound like spoiled children whining.
Look around you...there are far more important things to worry about in the USA and the rest of the world at the moment.

Uhhhhhhhh..... where?
I agree with the OP. This is a big feature of the Galaxy S line. If you really want your phone to double as a media player, the Samsung player is a HUGE selling point. I would like to see this app installed...
There is way more then just the music player missing. samsung video player, samsung apps with full version of asphalt 5(8-10 more apps from app program you can download), customizing bottom icons and app menu icons, aldiko ebooks, amazon mp3, media hub, 16 gigs of storage & 3.5 mm jack video out. I would call it epicless.
I was a little disappointed with the 1 GB of storage..
Just curious, if you root your phone, could you modify the fstab file to mount the SD card as your app folder?
I'm a little new to android.. Don't know if that is possible or not..

I haven't tested this but you should be able to use one of the sd card lag fixs from the other sgs phones to create ext2 sd card partition. The lag fix will all so move apps to sd card. If you want good performance use a class 6-10 sd card. I cant find any lag fixes that use sd card since most of those threads have been updated to internal storage ext 2 partition lag fix since it runs faster. If I can find one I will post a link.
EDIT: Here is one but I dont think you can use it since it uses ext3\4. I thik the default kernel only supports ext 2 but i could be wrong.

Skytunes. Looks cool so far.
there is a list from app brain

sorry for the broken link, but I cant post URL's on a new account
here you go http://www.appbrain.com/user/webkitchen/air-applications
gravity lander is a nice example of adobe air, quite a lot of apps avaliable seeing as it was just released a few hours ago
Air is a huge install 10+ Mb, that doesn't want to live on the SD.
Boo on Adobe.

After playing around with Skytunes some more, I'm really impressed. There's a neat little option that allows you to switch playback from your phone to your desktop at the click of a button and it's INSTANTANEOUS. ATM, the only drawback is that the server on the desktop is just the application itself, so you kind of have to have it open all the time if you want to use it on the go.
Hopefully they'll make a background process to control the server eventually.
There're already quite a lot of Air apps out in the market. Very impressive. The quality of the apps on average seems pretty decent, too.

One reason why I didnt bother, it will overload the memory.
And it will be a while before its a "must have" app.
Your going to have this problem with complicated libarys being used on a phone with bugger all storage space. Hopefully whatever phone I get next will have at least 2gb for app storage.
Anyone else notice very poor performance of Google's music app? I have my libraries on etc SD card (Sandisk 16GB Class 4) and it takes forever to load, transitions are jumpy, the interface is klunky, and its not finding half my music.
The stock android music player was a pain to use at best (former iPhone user) but this one is dismal. I'm seriously considering using my old iPhone as an iPod and screw music on the Atrix. Is there any music player that's is free that works lag free and emulates the iPhones?
I believe they are still working out the kinks in the new google music app. Also, just so you know, discussions like this should be posted in the General section. Just wanted to let you know before someone came in and yelled at you.
*sigh* this is the Development section. Your post belongs in the General Section.

everyone already said this shouldnt be in this section but...
why Ken chose to use the honeycomb music player GingerBlur is beyond me.. its absolute trash lol. So sluggish and even the background looks like 16-bit color madness.

now before people get confused, you are talking about the android music app correct? Google just launched a beta google cloud music so i dont want people to get confused.
We really need to come up with a different name for the new one. Google Music Beta makes me think of the 'cloud storage'. Google music reminds me of the new app that uses Google Music Beta. Music Player is the stock one...
We just need a name for the new App... they stupidly named it the exact same.
I typically use Songbird so I haven't noticed slowness. I'm also not using GingerBlur, though, so that could certainly have an effect.
I'm interested in seeing where this goes and hopefully canada will get some love too.

Music Player
The stock app runs fine and if there were any changes made to it in Gladiatrix, that seems to run fine as well.
The new Google Music beta is a bit sluggish in the UI on the Atrix (fine on the Xoom) but streams from the cloud just fine.
The advantages of not having to use my SD card for music are massive, and I will likely be sticking with cloud streaming going forward.
Up until now I've been using PowerAMP and it is top notch. As the name implies it's got a full range equalizer along with a great number of other features. The UI is pretty quick and it has lock screen controls available. I'm really hoping they get cloud access working quickly.
Working very stable. I'm on gingerblur 2.0

Wondering if anyone else have these issues.
#1 Google music app. When phone is locked & listing to music it sometimes stops & wigs out. & wiggs out screen
#2 when phone is sideways & recent apps button Is hit this happens..

Does the phone freeze and reboot when it does that? I think it maybe a hardware issue my old nexus s would have screens like that and then reboot I was able to get it replaced threw best buy because of said issue so maybe Google will do the same...

Sometimes it restarts phone . just depends I guess. Play music messes up every time I listen to music & phone locks!
I have contacted Google about these issues.. They never reply
I beloved I have solved the screen issue with hidden settings menu in the phone.. At least it hasn't happened again yet

I have the #1 issue sometimes. But not #2, never. Which option did you disable to fix #2? Is it something like "Disable hardware overlay" or "Force GPU rendering" under the Developer Options?
How bout I love to flash Roms but every time I lose half my memory so I have to box cloud everything if I do so I can format internal storage is this because the 8 and 16 GB models running in the same threads maybe?

Disable hw overlay . then rebooted phone & turned it back off. No problems since.
The play music however nothing has worked.
Google says to uninstall updates to it then reinstall updates.. I'll have to mess with it to see if it has worked..
I love the phone for the most part. It just seems like they rushed to get it out to sell.
Doesn't really hold up to all the hype ,Keyboard cannot spell allot of words. touch sucks on it (light touch). Virtual keys don't hide in games.
Battery life yea no life in it. Factory launcher is boring.. I could go on. Lmao
I'm almost ready to give apple a try
Their are quite a few smaller issues as well.
Snapdragon battery guru seems to help the battery a tiny bit.

I mainly use google play music because I have most of my music stored on the cloud, but for local I used to use PowerAmp which was awesome and sometimes I use Maple - it has some really cool features like pitch and speed adjustment.
but I think theres already a thread on this somewhere, in the apps section so you should probably look there
I hate how Google Play music makes it so hard just to get to the All Songs list. I think it requires at least three or four button presses, which I might be doing wrong but it's annoying to do if it really is that way.

I agree with this. I wish Google made the music app similar to those in TouchWiz or Sony xperias. Although I don't like the UI of Play Music, I'm kind of forced to use it due the N4's limited storage and Play's free song upload feature.

It's either been locked or disappeared forever, like this thread will be.
Shuttle+ is the best on my opinion, design, options and functions.
There is a thread made in themes and app section for all you guys.. It will help you all for knowing yhe various Music app people use..:good:
I use power amp and think it's totally worth the money. And yeah what other people said, there's a thread about this in the themes and apps forum where you can read about it there.
I personally went with power amp because the other media players annoyed me with the wrong album art work and would display the same artwork for all songs even though the artwork was completely irrelevant

Play Music. its simple and doesnt eat a lot of battery compare to 3rd part music apps -_-.
Play Music + Viper4android as my equalizer. Doesn't eat a lot of battery and it makes your 10 in ear earphones sound like Hi-end headphones.
I use Google Play Music now since I subscribed to All Access. But if I was using local files I'd be using PowerAmp.
