The good thing about the 7" SGT is that it is very portable and can be put inside a jacket pocket.
Since the 8.9" tablet is 1.9" larger, do you think that this diagonal stretch would still be able to fit inside the pocket.
Lucky for the female gender, they probably put it in their purse.

Thanks for the input.
I lost my common sense when I made that post.
Luckily I just found it (common sense).
For your standard leather jacket breast pocket - I highly doubt it. My Tab *BARELY* fits in mine and even I think the pocket is big to begin with.
Unless you plan on carrying it in a light jacket with one of those weird hybrid inside-outside pockets you won't be able to fit it. Also you want to have it sit at breast level, sitting at the bottom of a jacket is highly uncomfortable and VERY awkward. I hate to say it but packing something even bigger than the Tab would be a royal pain in the ass.
Whether 8.9 inch is portable is one question, and whether it will come with phone functionality is another.
Not being pessimistic, but it does seem I"ll be stuck with my galaxy tab for quite a bit longer... and its replacement will probably come from a brand other than samsung.
Have to say i am not happy that this new initial influx of tabs is likely to be in form factors bigger than 7". For me it is the perfect size.

Engadget had some photos of the LG 8.9" tab along with the xoom and Samsung 10" tab for comparison not too long ago. The LG 8.9" was nearly the same size as the two 10" tabs.

I think a contributing factor also is how light the 8.9 will be. I can get a nice folio case and carry it around like a book as I do with my 7" Galaxy tab lots because I live in California and it's not always jacket weather. If it as this and light as it's been teased, I will definitely migrate to the 8.9". The iPad, iPad 2 and Xoom are all too large and the Xoom is too heavy IMO
I was reading a book on my spiffy new 10.1 and it slipped off my lap... 20" or so on to the tile floor. Just enough to flip it on its screen. BTW, the tile won
Now to wait until they ship the tab officially, and hopefully a replacement screen is available.
Totally bummed out.
20" is noting. even regular sodalime glass should be able to survive that. that is very disappointing to hear!.
Doesnt look like gorilla glass to me!
Whenever I see Gorilla glass strength demonstrated, it is always using impacts on the front of it. Not on the edges. This tablet looks like it landed on it's edge where the glass is weakest.
Also, Samsung advertises "Easy Grip" as a feature of the tablet. I'm hoping that is just something the Galaxy Tab IO Edition is missing, because it sounds like people that have that tablet have grip problems.
FWIW.. you can probably replace the front glass only (from what it looks like). As far as I recall.. the front glass/touch panel is not bonded to the LCD.
The slipperiness gets a mention here too. http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2385353,00.asp
I've had the 10.1 since I/O and have had no "slippery" problems. Don't know how you guys are holding it, or not paying attention when you have a 10.1 inch tablet that's worth over $600~ in your lap or hands, but I'm a little bit more attentive.

Way to kick a guy when he's down....and just lost his irreplaceable tablet. Have a heart man.
ouch.. that sucks, dude. I feel for you. I sure hope you can repair it.
Damn, after the video on youtube of the Russian guy beating the hell out of the tablet, You'd think it would survive a 20" fall.
Maybe if you email Samsung, they may take pity on you. Besides, it would be good for their image.
Hi guys and girls.
I have a wacom (1994 ancient! lol) UP1212 tablet. Thought you'd like to know that the pen works with the galaxy, even the erasor part is detected in note and drawing apps.
There are a few pens on ebay, anything with UP ultrapad) should work.
We bought a spare pen like this one cheap for th tablet
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Gateway-Wacom-Executive-Stylus-Pen-CX200-CX2700-S-7200-CX210S-CX210X-M-280-/280830185524?pt=UK_Computing_FlashDrives_SM&hash=item4162c89034
And it works fine, with the tablet and the galaxy note. You can also get different nibs for these pens, from softer plastics to felt.
Enjoy!
I'm using a pen from my old lenovo x61t. Eraser works and pen responds a little better than standard but I guess that could be my imagination

That's fantastic! Never even considered giving mine a go.
Will definitely try tonight.
There's a thread in the accessories sub-forum, specifically for all Wacom pens that work or do not work with the note.
Whether you'll use it bare, or inside some type of a case.
On one hand, the Note 3 is a beautiful device. Shielding it with a GEL/TPU case will destroy its looks completely. Moreover, using a case will also make the dimensions of the device much bigger, undermining Samsung's heroic attempts to decrease its dimensions for a better grip.
On the other hand, a device as heavy and as delicate as the Note 3 will not survive a fall without a noticeable scar. And it *will* eventually fall.
So what do you prefer ? a scarred device (probably even with broken front glass), or a shielded device with horrible looks and cumbersome grip ?
To be or not to be. Rather, beating a dead horse with a dead horse.
I use gelaskins. They don't offer the level of protection of a full case, but if you hold it like a $600-700 gadget *should* be held, then you don't need a full case

A gelaskin might protect from scratches, but not from falls.
You can be as careful as possible with the device, but once in several months it will fall, hard on concrete floor.
Mine will be wearing a screen protector and the flip wallet.

That is why I said "they don't offer the level of protection of a full case". That is also why I hold onto my phone like it's $700 cash in my hand.

With the flip wallet, only *one* side is protected from directly hitting the floor. The other 3 sides are totally open for direct impact.
Already pre-ordered Spigen's Neo Hybrid. The way I look at it is: yes, its a sexy phone. So it deserves some sexy clothes. You don't take an ugly girl and put ugly clothes on her. You also don't take a hot girl and run her around town naked. Gotta find a sexy case for a sexy phone.

That's a really nice looking case, but I think you are adding a lot of bulk to the width of the device (because its built from two layers), I think at least 7-10 mm to the total width, which is crazy. This will make the device much harder to operate one handed. Samsung went through so much effort to make the device mostly screen, and this case undermine this effort, badly.

HI Great question.
I shall use a case and a screen protector as I have done with every smart phone and tablet since I started owning them.
With respect I differ on one point you raise. You really think the note looks good? Sony have the Xperia z, Z1 etc, HTC have the One and Apple are Apple, all premium brands and a premium price. This time around I sincerely expected Samsung to come up with decent aesthetics and a quality feel and build so what do they do they insult us with a cheap imitation leather look with plastic play stitching.
I have enjoyed all my Samsung devices going back to the nexus S, SGS2, 3, Note 1 etc but oh the quality of build materials has been and still is way below that of other top of the line mobiles. I changed from Samsung this year and went Sony with the Xperia Z and Xperia pad 10.1. I just have to write that holding those devices makes Samsung look very cheap, the sort of things you purchase at the market.
I have my Note 3 and Gear on order So I am again going back to plastic land in terms of the phone, I shall not be buying the Samsung tablet.
To date I had zero problems with the reliability of the Samsung products I have owned and own at present. I cannot for the life of me understand why Samsung appear to do their best to make their devices look and feel so......YUK.
One of the first things I shall be doing is changing that horrible insulting plastic leather back with one made in alloy by another brand. I shall not sell my Xperia Z until I am satisfied the Note 3 is satisfactory. If only Sony made a mobile with the same size screen. The Ultra is just bizarre to me with a 6.7" screen had that been smaller I would not be returning to Samsung until they started to manufacture quality products in terms of their casings.
Regards
Bare, and within a Golla wallet when not in use.
I have flipcovers, cases and other such additions that only serve to thicken and/or ruin the phone.
If you learn the meaning of being CAREFUL, you don't need a case.

I don't drop my phones. I'm only concerned about preventing incidental scratching of the screen and casing. I just took the screen protector off of my Epic 4G Touch and the screen looks brand new. She's been kept safe in a flexible TPU case and screen protector. I'd rather not use a full-body case on the Note 3 due to its size. The flip wallet is a good solution. I'm also considering some of the spigen options.
Naked and handled with TLC. If it falls, just cough up the funds to get it fixed or replaced with a newer model. I would say in 3 years I have dropped my phone 5 times, 3 of them on a soft carpet, one in and elevator and the fall was broken by grabbing the headphone cable and sticking out my foot. That leaves one dangerous fall in three years (I was luck, just a scratch to the case corner on the back). Lastly, believe it or not with the S3,if the back cover is scratched you can actually buff it out!

I will continue to take my chances by not using a screen saver or case. I have had the Droid incredible, Samsung fascinate, Samsung Droid Charge, S2, S3, HTC One, and with the exception of the S3 (cracked screen after 1 year) I will continue to use the Note 3 the same way.
I just can't stand covering up the natural look and feel of a phone. Not to mention in the case of the S3 adding to the bulk or the crappy feel of a screen protector especially when considering using a stylus. Of course I realize that one drop can damage the screen, but the tradeoff is worth it to me.
Kinda like if my wife were to wear some clothing at those special moments, it just wouldn't be the same.

Never gonna use a case on this puppy... I'm coming off a Droid Bionic in mint condition because I handle it like I can't afford a new one... and I have that , side leg , cell phone pocket on all my pants and shorts that the note 3 just happens to fit into perfectly... that cell phone pocket is the sole reason behind having a OG Motorola droid (still works) , Droid 3 , and Bionic , all looking brand new sitting on my dresser without a scratch...
Jeezzus... I just looked up at the text I'm posting and realized what I'm getting into... this is going to be the upgrade of my decade
I dunno if I'm ready for this.... .... hold me
I think you need to buy a bunch of new pants, dude!

I have a Note 2. I tried a Note 4 and took it back. Even though it was just a little bit larger...it felt way larger in my pocket. I think it may be because of the corners are less rounded. It seemed to hang out of my pocket rather than sink in like the Note 2 did.
Problem is, I really liked the Note 4. Anyone know why it is only just a tad bit bigger than the Note 2 but yet fits so awkwardly in the front pants pocket? Any suggestions? Would a case change the shape of it so it would rest better in the pocket...or would it just make it more bulky?

Adding case to Note 4 will definitely add bulk.
Here is my suggestion: Get the Note 4 and get used to it. You won't regret it.
Get note edge. ...even better
get a belt case, from pdair.com for example.
you'll never have to worry about pocket space, or sand in your pockets again.
an otterbox defender will work quite well too, with its belt clip.

A case adds some milimeter to it, even if it's just plastic.
Let alone weight, if you use the Neo Hybrid for example.
But to be honest, I would just use a belt case if I were you.
These phones (LG G Pro 2, Note 4, heck even the Note 2) make walking a bit uncomfortable.
It feels much better not to have that extra brick in your pocket.
(Even a slim old Nokia feels worse than having nothing in your pants... unless you use Cargo Pants.
Which is functionally awesome, but frowned upon. Pick your poison.)
Please don't do what the dice master suggested you will look like a spy who plays fruit machines.
Adding a case won't help. Just get used to it. It is bigger, but a great phone.
