[Q] nb1 update failed - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

I downgraded from nb1 to mk2, so i could use root, but i really miss google camera. So i tried to just go through the at&t software updater, and downloaded the nb1 file and rebooted to install it. it stops installing at 28% and reboots into mk2 and tells me the upgrade failed.
is there anything i can do?

Are you using Odin and the tar file in post 2 of this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=50667360?

you messed up your Pit file, no biggie just go to the development section and download the Pit file and MJE tar. once you have those flash using odin 3.09, put Pit in the pit section and mje in the AP section, hit start and profit. Easiest root method is kingo
can i download the mj7+pit file and flash those? Or it must be MJE? Also could I have the links for the correct file, kinda freaking out and do not want to odin any other bad files .
Thanks!

It has to be MJE. You can't downgrade. Follow this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2483380
And don't use that root method. It only worked on the mi9. The only way to root MJE is with kingo. Google it. Good luck!
Sorry to jump in this thread, but ill be in the same boat unless someone can help out. I am rooted mj9, is there anyway to upgrade to mje other than odin? I have unistalled frameworks, wanam, safestrap, everything unfroze, but still cannot get update to install?
Should i just follow the above?
Thanks

If the ota is not working, odin to MJ7 (you may need to factory reset also), install the ota, then use kingo to root.
Odin
Odin is the easiest way to do all this. If your having troubles Odin back to stock, there is a file to do that, it's 2 gigs. Once your stock again, use Kingo to root. There is also a better superuser.apk than what comes with Kingo, just google it, then flash that after your rooted.
There are no shortcuts, do it the way you see in this thread or you could have issues.

Ok, if that is the best option, should i just simply odin to MJE instead of MJ7? or better to stick to the MJ7 that im currently on?

Personally, I used Odin to get back to stock MJ7, took the update, rooted with Kingo, installed chainfires superuser, then installed safestrap and flashed the ROM I use back on my stock slot. I would definitely replace the superuser app that comes with Kingo though, just to be cautious. Hope this helps.

[Q] SPH-L720 problems!!

My galaxy s4 is rooted on 4.3 MK2 for the Sprint SPH-L720, the phone will no longer boot up because i flashed a wrong file. The phone will go into stock recovery, and download mode. Any ideas on what to do to fix?
Doesn't seem like you searched. If you can get into recovery try and flash a ROM if you have one in your memory, or wipe data and see I'd that boots your phone. If none of those two work you can Odin MK2 tar and that will bring your phone back to life.

Odin should not be failing unless its a bad download, your computer doesnt detect your phone , or there is the chance the phone itself is done.

What does odin say when you try to start the flashing of MK2 tar?

Odin detects my phone and goes all the way through till system image. than fails.
So i am downloading a different mk2 file but its taking forever and hopefully that works.
You need to use the newest Odin which is 3.09 if you are on MK2, also make sure you are running Odin as administrator. With 3.09 you put the tar file in the AP slot. Also, here is where you can find a fast download of MK2 that is known as good: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2601443
Here is a copy of Odin 3.09:

I would try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=50667360
Go to the second post in the thread. Start with step 7. You'll want to side load the update.zip through adb. To do that you'll boot into recovery and side load the update.zip file. Follow the instructions to side load only.
Edit, if that doesn't work I would Odin the mk2 files again and attempt the ota again.

Yes, that's the right file. And if odin didn't give you any errors then it flashed correctly. I'm kind of stumped right now. The nb1 update.zip you downloaded has an md5, did you check that to make sure the download was good?
EDIT, What a minute I see the problem. you need to use all 4 of the files. Put the AP file in PDA, BL in bootlaoder, CP in phone and CSC in CSC of odin.

No I ment the md5 check sum it's unique to the file and can be used to verify the file integrity. But see my edit above. That's the problem.

EDIT: It worked! thank you so much! i am now enjoying 4.2.2

Dilemma- downgrade i337 4.4 NC1 to 4.3, or upgrade 4.2 MDL to 4.3

OK, I have been searching for several days for a solution to the issue I'm dealing with, with no luck so far.
Goal: Have a Rooted s4 working with Gear 2 watch.
I have 2 s4's I can work with both At&t SGH-I337:
one on 4.4.2 UCUFNC1
the other, 4.2.2 UCUAMDL (attempted to update, system said "interrupted" after downloading the large file, now Kies says its up to date, and won't take any updates)
after much reading and digging, its been tough finding what would work with baseband MDL model - too many "my phone is bricked!" comments afterward has me worried to proceed!
any suggestions and guidance would be greatly appreciated!
thanks!!!
For the one on nc1, you're going to have to flash the Odin mk2 tar file. Then root with saferoot. You can then decide if you want to install safestrap and flash a rooted nb1 rom. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=49687770 also, see this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=51067706
The one on mdl, I'd put on twrp or cwm and then flash a 4.4.2 rom
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app
To add on to above post, for the MDL firmware phone get twrp and flash something like ShoStock-i. It is based on one of the newest international firmwares and include the needed files for Gear Manager that should allow your Gear 2 to work. I have the Gear 1 with using ShoStock-i and it works perfectly. Should not be any different for your Gear 2 with Tizen. Gear Manager will work on your Tizen watch with it.

I was dying from happiness last night too.... I just wanted to debloat my touchwiz.... so much **** AT&T puts on these roms its crazy!!!!
edit
sigh... Unfortunately, even though I was able to verify root on NC1, I am have not been able to get wifi tether to work (I get "settings has stopped" error, after following the process of replacing tetheringprovision.apk file that I did on my MDL model).
So I have the MDL 4.2.2 model that provides hotspot but doesn't work with Gear 2, and NC1 that's vice versa.
I've looked into flashing a prerooted custom 4.4.2 ROM with working tether like Maple Leaf among others mentioned in this thread, but ODIN fails when I try to install CWM (FAIL Auth). Also tried the ES File Explorer option to create a hotspot network, still get the settings has stopped, I read that even when its says that, it's still actually providing a signal, but not on mine for sure (not finding any using different devices).
I tried this:

followed the steps to the TEE on NC1 phone and still get an ODIN error. ODIN says md5 file is valid, after "firmware update start..", it lists:
sbl2.mbn
NAND Write Start!!
sbl2.mbn
sbl3.mbn
rpm.mbn
aboot.mbn
complete(write) operation failed.
<OSM> all threads completed (suesseed 0 / failed 1)
Now it says "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and Try again."
Followed the process to on Kies to upgrade firmware with model number and SN, but it tries to load MDL version and says "This devices version cannot be updated"
Tried emergency recovery but device doesn't show on the list.
been working on this for a couple of days now- staying patient- I'm sure it's something simple I'm missing... Thanks so much for your suggestions guys!
SOLVED!
I finally accomplished what I was going for:
I managed to unbrick my 4.4.2 NC1 by flashing 4.4.2 NB1 via ODIN, then took the OTA update again to NC1, rooted with Towelroot, then, after finding out that AT&T no longer blocks hotspot with the new mobile share plans (which I have), everything is working fine= rooted 4.4.2 NC1 with working hotspot and compatibility with Gear 2.
thanks again for the suggestions!

I could be wrong but if you updated the with the OTA I think your NC4 upgrade will increment some counter that prevents you from rolling back. Even if you have root. Unless you were already on an nc2 rom...

I think the person that posted above your last post is right about not being able to downgrade since you're on the NC4 bootloader. Try booting into the stock recovery and doing a factory reset.
Get into recovery. And factory reset.
If that doesn't work.
Restore your back up in ss.
If you can't even get into safe strap..
You need to flash the appropriate. .Pit file to fix your phone.
The OTA thing is crucial... I really don't think you can roll back if you took the update OverTheAir
Sent from my SM-N900V using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Had the same issue last night, rebooted to recovery factory reset & wipe cache then reboot
If it doesn't work on the first reboot try a couple more times mine booted on the third attempt
While you can't roll firmware back you can still odin the nc2 kernel on a nc4 build
