I need the run down - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

I'm a tad confused as to how I'm supposed to go from mf3 to kit Kat while keeping root. If anyone could help out it would be great. I'd also like to know if staying on mf3 BL is better incase the bootloader is exploited again. Or is the work being done on current BLs.

Your best bet is to go to MK2. Work is taking place across different bootloaders, but a good amount of work is on MK2 including Hashcode's kexec exploit which functions on the root method for MK2 that allows the kernel memory to be modified. You can sideload the MK2 OTA or just flash the ODIN files if you don't mind wiping the internal data/storage. Once that's done, install Safestrap, and using the different guides you can either go to KeepRoot OTA to put yourself on the stock system with root or flash any 4.4.2 TouchWiz ROM with the KitKat Magic Toolkit.

Links? I'm searching but would appreciate the help.

●●?Thanks, I appreciate for the reply to my question, I did saferoot on my I337 AT&T and still have the KNOX in 0x0 and would like upgrade to KK. But the KNOX Remain in 0x0.
●●Since you did it, what ROM you use?

I have tested all the Roms given in the all things att thread (link given earlier) and all of them work. I am now using black box 3.0 for its AOSP look and feel.

Since you have MF3, you have a locked bootloader and so lot of things are restricted. We do not have a direct root method for kitkat and so the only go is to install a pre-rooted kitkat rom.
Your best bet is to odin flash MK2, root, install safestrap and use the kitkat magic tool to install a kitkat rom.
Using Odin is simple.
Run odin in admin mode (right click and select "run as administrator")
Under options, only "Auto Reboot" and "F.Reset Time" should be selected.
Click on "BL" button and select the "BL_I337UCUEMK2_1921628_REV06_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar.md5" file from the MK2 extract.
Do the same for AP, CP and CSC
Put the phone in download mode
"adb reboot download" or
power-off the phone and press power, home and volume down buttons together. Hold it till you get the warning screen where you have to press volume up key.
Connect it to the computer. Odin should recognize and you should see an "Added!!" message in odin.
Hit the start button.
You should now have a clean stock MK2 firmware. Remember that this will wipe all your data.
Root: Use saferoot to root.
Safestrap: Install Safestrap v3.72 APK. Open the app and select install recovery.
Note: Safestrap is a special recovery that is available during the normal boot process. The stock recovery is still available and can be entered by pressing home and volume up when powering up the phone.
Entering safestrap recovery: Reboot the phone and when you see the safestrap screen, press the capacitive menu button (touch screen doesnt work).
Follow Kitkat magic tool and install the choice your rom from the All things AT&T MK2 and NB1 thread.

So you can use Black Box 3.0 on your AT&T i337? I saw on the list that it says "XXUFNB8 -- i9505" and figured that it would be risky to run it on my i337. Are there any extra steps that you have to take to get it to work?
I haven't made the jump from mf3 yet but Black Box 3 is looking pretty tempting.

Error
So I downloaded the MK2 AIO Tar file and then placed each file into their respective slots.
I keep encountering this error:
Invalid Percent of Drawing download progress bar!
Now this is happening every single time I use Odin 3 V 3.09.
I am redownloading the MK2 files and instead picking the download with the 4 separate players.
Hopefully this is resolved with the new download but if you guys have any suggestions lets me know.

Trying again now with the multiple file version. Seems to be working like a charm.

Any ROM listed in the All things AT&T MK2 and NB1 thread will work on ATT I337. The thread is for this phone.
You have to first upgrade to MK2 by flashing the full odin image from the thread and then use KitKat magic tool to install kitkat Roms.

Wifi isn't working. I flashed the mk2 modules but Nada. Do I need nc1 modules and if so where do I download it.

[Q] I think I soft bricked my S4

I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 SGH-I337M from Koodo (Telus). And I wanted to get the latest 4.3 android on my phone, so I installed Cyanogenmod 10.2, and flashed my phone using that. I then realised that I didn't like the new display and wanted my old phone's display and firmware.
So I then proceeded to flash my phone with my Stock firmware using Odin 3.07. My phone didn't start up normally and is stuck on the part where the phone shows the Samsung logo. I can turn off the phone and boot into download mode, and I can access the recovery using Volume Up + Home + Power button. I have also tried to us the Firmware upgrade and initialization using Samsung Kies, but that doesn't change anything. Odin recognises my device, and Kies lets me flash using firmware emergency recovery, but I cannot open the files using the directory on my computer
At Odin Mode it shows the following:
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: SGH-I337M
CURRENT BINARY: Samsung Official
SYSTEM STATUS: Official
CSB-CONFIG-LSB: 0x30
WRITE PROTECTION: Enable
I backed up all my data prior to flashing using Cyanogenmod, so I don't care if I lose my data. (Also my constant flashing will definitely stop once I fix my phone). Is this phone soft bricked or hard bricked? How do I fix this? Thank you in advance.
Edit: I was also using Clockworkmod Recovery. AND YAY! I can actually boot into Android system recovery. Sorry, I simply was not holding the buttons correctly. Should I do a factory reset?

on top of stock rom, my stock rom was JeallyBean 4.2.2 i337 mf3 not mdl and i read there are no mf3 files for odin
So i managed to fix this problem just by downloading stock rom for my phone and flashing with safestrap: Galaxy S4 rooted Stock ROM AT&T SGH-i337 MF3 (i found that on google)
The rom i downloader is rooted. and it said to install Loki after finishing flashing rom but i managed not to.
after you finished flashing you need to install also: jflteatt-MF3-modules(attachment) : this will make your wifi to work.
Every thing i just said, worked for me! do this at your own risk! im not responsible for any damages!!!
Wait what if you flash MDL with safestrap, and use goo.im for TWRP? It could possibly brick but just an idea.

It wouldn't. The bootloader is still MF3 no matter what you do to the system, and so it will still be locked with no way to bypass it.

AT&T Samsung Galaxy S4 Bootloader

Hey, I have the Samsung galaxy s4 and I have been rooted for about 3 months. It does it for everyone that is rooted the bootloader is still locked but there is a way to remove that. Here is how http://androidtechy.com/index.php/v...icon-after-rooting-the-samsung-galaxy-s4.html and before someone else tells you so you know questions have to go in Q/A section.
An easier way IMO, flash a stock att mf3 ROM that has stock kernal then use triangle away.
This ROM works, just Loki doki after flashing.

No it means you've flashed a kernel or ROM that tripped the custom firmware counter. The use of triangle away is that it resets that counter back to zero and give you the standard Galaxy S4 splash screen
I found this fix in one of the threads. Not sure if it will work for you, but it did for me and I'm on MF3.
1. Update SuperSU app
2. Launch app and update binary
3. Reboot
4. Download and launch Root Explorer (or another file manager that can access system files)
5. Navigate to a folder called "/system/xbin"
4. Delete ONLY files in that folder with the word "busybox" within its filename or symlink path. You should end up with three files left.
5. Reboot
(Probably don't have to Reboot on Step 3, but I did it to see if custom boot screen was gone... it wasn't... so I included it in my steps.)
Found it. Credit goes to ou812bkewl. Here was the post... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=44495559&postcount=39

The reason why I asked if I'm locked down is because, one of the replies said if the op uses one of the methods to remove the padlock screen than he'd than be forced to use SS to flash roms. Don't we need to anyway?

The only time you would run that risk is if you Odin back to stock MDL and took the MF3 ota. Flashing a ROM is safe with no risk of bootloaders or basebands locking anything.

What you have experienced is due to the restrictions put by the locked bootloader. If you check the baseband version in settings->about phone, it would end with MF3 or MK2 or NB1.
The firmware with these version have locked bootloader which prevents us from flashing any custom kernel or recovery.
The way to flash custom roms is using a different kind of recovery called Safestrap
There are some restrictions with Safestrap though. With MF3, you have to use safestrap v3.65 and you can only flash 4.2.2 based roms. You can also flash Goople play edition 4.2.2 roms. With google play edition, your PC will not recognize the phone though.
With MK2, you have to use safestrap v3.71 and you can flash 4.3 based Roms. You cannot flash google play edition 4.3 based roms though. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2616221 has lot of useful information for you.
If you are on NB1, you have to follow Deadly Venom Kitkat Magic Tool to downgrade to MK2 first and then install 4.4.2 based Roms.
If you are on MK2, Deadly Venom Kitkat magic tool has a way to install 4.4.2 (Kitkat) roms.

Stuck in Odin

I am running stock AT&T 4.2.2 MF3 rooted with Motochopper, I believe.
An OTA downloaded on my device today, NC1 I guess? I knew I couldn't install it because either it would fail after detecting root, or I would potentially brick.
I wanted to update to stock NB1 or NC1 (maintaining or re-establishing root afterward).
The MF3 update threads I have found seem outdated.
Please let me know what the safest way to flash the latest stock that is rootable.
Thanks in advance.

I haven't upgraded yet, I'm still confused on what is the proper/safest method.
I am not sure if we have to go from MF3 > MK2 > NB1 > NC1... or if we can go directly to NB1 with this: "NB1 STOCK -- Get to NB1 Stock from NB1 or earlier... I337UCUFNB1 4.4 Stock Odin Tar & System Dump", then use the NB1 to NC1 method.
Let me know if you attempt anything and the results, I will do the same. I did lot of reading with no clear answers.
If anyone can confirm the best method, I would appreciate your help!

Apparently you need to upgrade to MK2, root, then do MK2 to NB1, and then NB1 to NC1. Its a process. I think I'll just stick with 4.2.2 until a root method is available for KitKat then I'll just upgrade to KitKat instead of flashing because I always have bad luck when it comes to soft modding...
Good luck.

If you want NB1, you can flash straight to it with the ODIN package. If you want root, you can flash to either MK2 or NB1 but going to NB1 adds in the downgrade steps.

Thank you! One question. I use Linux so I wouldn't be using ODIN I would be flashing with Heimdall. Same thing right?

Slightly different. You'll have to extract the partitions to flash from the ODIN file since it doesn't work with ODIN packages directly. Alternatively, you could try JODIN3.
