So i busted out my OTG cable and plugged in my pretty beefy external dac/heaphoneamp, and surprise the gpad powered it just fine. So for at least mahdi and liquid smooth, the gpad should work with any dac that uses the popular PCM2707 usb interface chip.
I use the PCM2707 to feed a Wolfson dac which feeds a beefy headphone amp (current limited to 500ma, still takes 3 sec to charge the caps/ps).

Hey all,
I've been using my N10 for a week now and am wondering why and if it's normal for the tablet to require 8+ hours to recharge?
I'm plugging it into the wall using a generic USB cable and non-Samsung power block. Should that matter at all?
Signed 'confused...'
Yes, the charger matters. The stock wall charger is at 2Amps, while a normal USB connection is at 0.5Amps, for example. All devices will charge more slowly on lower amperages, but since the battery of the Nexus 10 is so huge (9000mAh - about double your average laptop), charging it from 0 to 100 will be dreadfully slow, if you're not using a proper charger.
1. Are there other wall chargers with higher Amp output that are safe to use w/ the N10?
2. Is there any long term damage to the battery using a higher or lower Amp charger?
Another issue is if the charger is made for an Apple product it doesn't short the data pins so the Nexus doesn't see it as a high amperage power supply and only pulls .5 amps.
Use the OEM Samsung charger or get one of these:

And if you want a it to charge even faster, use a pogo cable.

Higher than 2.1 amps? Not commercially that I'm aware of, though you could always jerry rig some contraption to deliver more.
The problem is, however, that the device will not draw the extra power. A device will draw the power it can use, and no more. I haven't tested what the draw is on my Nexus 10, but on my Note 2, it never draws more than 1.8 amps (although that reading may be a little inflated and it really only draws 1.5 amps). I suspect it's more or less the same with the N10 and the stock USB cable and Samsung 2.0 amp charger. So if you went nuts and jerry rigged a 50 amp power supply to the device, it would still only draw 1.5 amps.
Note that the draw can be affected by the USB cable you use. I've seen some USB cables draw less than 500mA where the stock Samsung USB cable draws 1.8 amps.
Bottom line is that you're not going to find a wall charger above 2.1 amps as far as I know, and even if you did, it wouldn't charge the Nexus 10 any faster. The problem is what you identified in your original post -- using some plain vanilla 500mA (0.5 amp) micro USB charger that you've had lying around the house for the past several years and assuming that it should charge just as well as the stock Samsung charger. It won't, as you discovered -- the N10 will only draw about a third of what it's capable of drawing from such a charger.
Be careful buying 2.0/2.1 amp chargers from Amazon or wherever, particularly if they're identified as Samsung chargers. They're almost always counterfeit, and no better than the 500mA chargers I mentioned above.
You might also want to look into the POGO charger cable because it allows the Nexus 10 to draw virtually the full 2.0 amps from the charger rather than 1.5.

Listen to this guy.
@JasW - Wow, thanks for the information / education. It makes a LOT more sense now.
Thanks again, F
@Gearhead_ENG - Thanks for the links! I'm going to go home and scrounge through all my old chargers and see if I have more 2Amp chargers. If not, I'll be following the links again to purchase...
Maybe this is a dumb question...but I've been looking at getting an external DAC for some time now. But I've got some questions, specific to the moto x pure.
1.) Does anyone have anything to say about the quality of the Moto X P's internal DAC? I'm getting a 128GB microSD so I can listen to my FLAC collection in my car, (New car, got the 9 speaker high quality system :3 )
2.) Does an external DAC charge the phone since it is USB? Reason I am asking is I DO NOT WANT one that charges the phone all the time. I like to keep my batteries strong by not charging them but when I need to.
3.) I know Android 5.0 added USB Audio...but does anyone know if the Moto X P supports USB Audio? If so... is there anything I need to do setting wise for it to work? Or will the phone "detect" the DAC?
4.) On a side note...are their any music players that any of you would say is better/the best for using FLAC?
Thanks guys.
After I grab a DAC and get it all hooked up I will post a mini review of the experience as well for anyone else who wants to max out their moto.
Normally usb dacs drain battery, or use their internal battery of the dac to reduce drain from phone. The only dac I know which can charges the phone is the fiio e18.

Well, I am hoping to find one that can be powered off the car. Like the 12volt.

Maybe an dac with an usb-y cable and splitted data and power? Or an powered usb Hub? (Not Sure if the Hub will Charge the Phone or Not)

Interesting... could this be used to not power the phone?

The hifi usb cable should not charge the phone, but it's very expensive. Maybe there are cheaper versions. (Can take a look in the ifi Gemeni)
you can ask the ifi support to be sure, they are really quick and competent.
But with the usb hub I'm not sure, maybe one of your friends have one. I don't know if they supply power to the host device or not.
What external battery will work with the Galaxy S8 considering it has USB C now? There was a mess awhile back with people arguing over what was safe and what isn't. Will popular external battery brands such as Anker PowerCore+ be safe or work with the new Galaxy S8?
I feel like you should be able to use any of your current battery packs with the S8. Even though they use USB-C now, I thought that mess was with the cables, not the battery packs themselves, as I did hear that if you used low quality cables, those can royally screw up your phone. I have no plans on buying new battery packs, probably just new cables... or just use an adapter, as I already have one on standby.
I just answered in the accessories section.. It depends on what "Fast Charging" standard the S8/S8+ uses if you will be able to fast charge it with existing USB-A port batteries.
short answer... Using quality USB-A to USB-C cables (I have Anker and Choetech usb-a to usb-c cables), I can charge my Pixel, Nexus 6P & 5X, Lumia 950 and HP Elite X3 (all use USB-C ports) with my Anker Powercore 20100 and Powercore+ 10050, but at "regular" (aka non-fast) speed.
Hi guys,
I've bought QC 3.0 charger and noticed that it charges the phone faster only by 20-25 min in comparison to Sony stock charger, so here the question arises, does XC support QC 3.0 charging?
I've also bought USB 3.0 to usb type-c cable and noticed that it still works in USB 2.0 data transfer speed, so our phone is also not capable of SuperSpeed data transfer?
Yes the x compact only supports USB 2.0.

Sony Xperia X Compact is USB 2.0 only. USB-C is physical definition of jack, USB 3.0 is signalling standard.
Stock charger that comes with European version of XC is already QC 3.0
Yeah as ondrejvaroscak writes one is signalling the other is the connector, as you can imagine 24 usb-c connector can offer alot more so it's not ad simple as that, anyway usb-c cables does not have to support usb 3 signalling no but it should be possible with the correct cable or if you have usb-c on your computer ofc both should be able to operate at 10Gb/s full duplex.
Full-featured USB-C cables that support USB 3.1 Gen 2 can handle up to 10 Gbit/s data rate at full duplex. They are marked with a SuperSpeed+ (SuperSpeed 10 Gbit/s) logo. There are also cables which support only USB 2.0 with up to 480 Mbit/s data rate. There are USB-IF certification programs available for USB-C products and end users are recommended to use USB-IF certified cables.[13]

The cable that comes with the phone is usb 2. I don't know anyone who tried a 3.1 converter cable but I do not see why it should not work.
Usb-c cables also contain a chip.
Electronic ID chip provides information about product/vendor, cable connectors, USB signalling protocol (2.0, Gen1, Gen 2), passive/active construction, use of VCONN power, supported VBUS current, latency, RX/TX directionality, SOP controller mode, and hardware/firmware version

as alot of bad stuff could happen with a simple wire conversation to 24 pin fully reversible connector that can act as both host/slave, and deliver 5amp and analog audio. Usb-c has a long range of future proof modes/specifications. So while usb 3.1 signalling is the current fastest data standard I do not think the old usb connector is the future when you compare it with the possibilities and current widespread of usb-c.

Are you sure that Sony UCH-20 charger is a QC 3.0 charger? There is no information about that on Sony's website.

No, UCH-20 is 1500mA non-QC charger. My XC came with UCH-12W, which is QC 3.0 charger..
Will the S8/8+ benefit from using USB C Cables that DO NOT have the resistor when connected to chargers or devices that CAN handle the higher speeds and amps?
For example will it benefit in speed if plugged in on a 10, 20, or 40GBps usb c cord vs one that's turned down with a resistor?
Will it charge faster on a charger that has native USB C and can put out more amps?
The NON resistor cables are a lot more expensive, and I understand it's risky having them around if you (or the KIDS!) accidentally use them between the wrong two ports. So before I order all new cables for all our rooms, cars, etc, I want to know if it's worth it to mess with the faster, higher amp cables or not.
