You rule! Thanks for this!
4g fix also?
I don't have 4g in my area to test but I do not think you can tether over 4g (because it didn't in Android 2.3.4), that would be awesome though.
Does this mean that the standard tethering app, that is native on the phone, will work or does it mean that you will be able to use the wireless tether app from code.google.com?

4g is a no go still but 3g hotspot tether is working fine for me with this patch. Thanx pete!

Thanks, It's working great on 3g I haven't tried 4g. I'm running stock rooted with the matr1x 5.5 kernel.
Just curious why people want this so bad when wireless tether does 4g? Thanks.

Wireless Tether for Root users is an ad-hoc network on the Nexus, whereas the native tether is infrastructure. That's reason enough.

I think it might be because Wireless Tether only produces an adhoc wifi signal (which ironically a lot of Android and other wifi devices cannot connect to) vs the default hotspot app does Infrastructure access point.
Works great. Nice work.

Sorry for the noob question but I didn't find the answer in the thread or on your site. Do you need root or can you run on stock?
TIA.
just curious, what does this exactly modify?
thanks for this pete.
Thanks Pete. Great work as always.

Is it any different than what netarchy is doing with his kernel? I'm running his 1.3.9 cfs and native tether works fine.

Awesome! Thanks for this! Works great and was a snap to install with ROM Manager. This restores to me the only reason I purchased a Nexus S 4G for. Sad that Sprint is trying to take this from us when all the other Nexus phones still offer it freely without having to subscribe to some overpriced "tethering" plan. Shame on you Sprint.
This doesn't enable 4G tethering which is a bit of a bummer since we also got a nice speed increase with 4G on 2.3.5 but it's far better than "Wifi Tether for root users".

Actually, i flashed this a did a comparison with WiFi Tether in terms of speed. WiFi Tether gave me faster speeds. I'm keeping it though since WiFi Tether only does adhoc and the stock Hotspot does Infrastructure.
Either way, win win.

What is the benefit to having infrastructure versus ad hoc if they accomplish the same goal, tethering.

Anything can connect to a WIFI network on infrastructure mode, in adhoc mode, there are some devices that cannot connect this way, most notably the Xoom, Gal Tabs, and some other devices. From what I've seen, it's mostly some tablets and phones, but probably all PCs can connect in adhoc.
I am wondering if I can use my sprint ns4g on T-Mobile some how?

its not possible. ns4g was made for sprint specifically because it is a CDMA network. T-mobile operates on the more common GSM network.
You might be able to get it on Boost Mobile, and I've seen a thread about getting it to work on Metro PCS although it was pretty dodgy and I dont believe you even get 3g with that.

i have a kestrel 4G( from EE network ) , the internet speed is faster than the home, checked it with speednet : 50mbps in places, that is fast.
What's up guys. (i'm just sharing my way of doing this, i'm not taking credit)
- Myself and a friend (@ teg50886 twitter) figured out a way to get the wifi hotspot working.
- I've only tested this on Sprint, they have unlimited LTE here where I live. So yeaaaa .....
^^ YOU MUST HAVE ROOT ^^
@jcase fixed all that for us here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/orig-development/root-stump-root-lg-g3-sprint-verizon-t2850906
* Directions:
1. Download this app from Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.snclab.wifitetherrouter&hl=en
(his email is listed on GP [email protected]) So, Thank Him and Buy his app. I'ts only $2.50
2. Go to "Configure Wifi Router"
3. Go to "Interface" and select first option "wlan0"
4. Go to "Method" and select second option "Android 4.2+"
5. That is it. Easy as Pie.
Thanks for the info. It worked perfectly on my Sprint LG G3 following the instructions you posted.

WiFi hotspot works perfectly out of the box for me... I'm in the UK with the 4G EE network.
Is it somehow limited or blocked or other countries/operators?

Sprint charges for hotspot and does not offer unlimited. Just about all U.S. carriers charge for hotspot.
Confirmed working on 3 UK! Thanks for the tip bro!
Works fine on AT&T
FYI, new Verizon plans do not charge for hotspot. So the stock hotspot app on my Verizon G3 works fine. AT&T charges (in addition to limiting data, which is exactly what Verizon got smacked down by the FCC for...)
(I have both an AT&T G3 and a Verizon G3.)
Confirmed working on sprint 990, thanks for the find

If you have the unlimited data package on 3 UK (like I do) they now only let you tether 100mb's of data, this app/settings bypass that ^_^

I'm still on on my unlimited Verizon plan, would love to get Hotspot working.
So I can install this app, follow the instructions, turn on my hotspot...and I shouldn't be charged?
thanks
dmz working?

AT&T you don't have to unlock it will work If you choose t-mobile you will have to unlock to make it work on Cricket
Ok thanks for sharing your information I appreciate all the help.. T mobile service is very extremely limited where I work (around farm land).. at my home I get very good signal so I want to have a phone that gets great coverage in both areas. I thought of cricket since it uses att wireless towers and is 4g LTE with 10gb Data and unlimited everything else for $60 a month. Does anyone have Cricket using a note 3 or 4 ..I was just wondering about Signal strength and tested Data speeds

Got you Unique so even though I have to pay more for the ATT wireless version it may be my easiest route. I should not have to unlock it for all the services to work. I chatted with Cricket help desk and they stated that I would need to still have an unlocked phone even if it came from Att wireless.. but that seemed odd to me since they should almost be using the same signal bands as ATT wireless... Thanks for the reply @ Unique

Your phone needs to be SIM free because they use a different MNC code.
