I finally clicked the Install Now button to take the Verizon G2 OTA to Kit Kat.
The phone rebooted and then went into TWRP recovery. Figured out how to get past that using ADB, but when phone boots up it tries to install the OTA, but fails and says:
"Sorry there was a problem updating your LG VS980. No changes where made."
In the Status section of ABOUT, SOFTWARE UPDATE, status shows as Update Failed, with code = 408.
Any ideas on how to fix this failed OTA?
If you want to ota you have to be complete stock no custom recovery(cwm/twrp/philz), no xposed/modules, no mods, nothing modified in the system partition you need to be completely stock to be able to ota

Thanks so much!
I thought I read that but also didn't find a way to go from stock 12b (with Xposed, some minor mods and TWRP) to 24a without a full wipe..
Know of a way? Or post to point me to?
Thanks so much!

Yes use the new IOROOT15 to root the device. But I have been unsuccessful in flashing any roms, however I did get twrp to work with FreeGee app in the android market.
I appreciate your help very much, thank you

What version of twrp? Sounds like you may need to update.

I've been unsuccessful in getting any roms to work. I tried 4.2.2 rom and got lg screen then black, had to restore nand backup from twrp recovery but it was hellish to get into, had to do the hold vol+pwr precisely, almost gave up. So, reverted to a backup just fine.
Next tried to loki_flash recovery 2.6.3.1 (then was going to do them in order-2.6.3.2>2.6.3.3 [have not tried going directly to 2.6.3.3) and was hit with an unsupported aboot error (device mismatch).
So now i'm going to try and use flash tool to revert back to 11A, root, install twrp (I hope this is possible and I don't brick my phone [i'm new to all of this])
Anyone tell me if this is an acceptable option to proceed? Thank's in advance.
Acceptable. KDZ to 11A.
Just wanted to post I was successful using lg flash tool to revert to 11A, rooted, freegee twrp, flashed 2.6.3.3, flashed OSE ROM. Everything is well ATM!

Can anybody confirm that once you have rooted and have custom recovery installed that you will not longer be on the VZW OTA upgrade path? I have always had HTC devices and haven't had any experience with LG rooted devices and I'm not familiar with loki or the process etc....Thanks for the help.

Confirmed. I think it will continue to try to ota with a stock rom but fail. You need to install a custom ROM to get it to stop ota attempts

Perfect, that was what I figured but wanted to double check. Thanks!
Well I think it will try to update even if you have a custom recovery installed and on stock ROM, but will soft brick your phone or put it in a boot loop. Lots of threads about people taking the OTA with custom recovery and messing up there phone. You can rename or delete the FOTA. Apk to stop OTA if you don't want a custom ROM.

With the stock ROM, rooted, with custom recovery, you will still get the notification for the OTA update, and if you accept it, bad things will happen (I know cause I did it). It will download the update and reboot, then you'll get stuck in a recovery bootloop. I was able to fix it by following these instructions.

Hi! I haven't seen any posts about this, and couldn't find any posts either by searching, so I'll ask
I've got an F320S which is rooted. I tried to install a 20MB update, but got "blocked" because of root. I installed custom-recovery in order to try to installing it from there, but with no luck. That resulted in a bootloop. So my question is: How can I update my phone?
Is it also possible to update it to KitKat (if there are any KitKat update for F320S. I've seen it on the internet, so it is available?)
Thanks!

you have a custom recovery installed on your phone, this is why the update fails. the custom recovery is not the same as the stock recovery so the script the update uses to execute the update doesnt work for custom recoveries. you'd have to reinstall the stock recovery to get the update to work. i dont know where you'd get that for the f320s. maybe if there is a guide to go back to complete stock for the f320s then that will also give you back stock recovery. then you can make a copy of the stock recovery image for yourself. also if you have root you can install supersu then go into supersu settings and scroll all the way to the bottom and unroot your device.
I made a backup of the stock recovery before flashing CWM. Wouldn't it be possible to just restore it? I flashed and made a backup with flashify!

You'll probably be better off if you wait for a flashable zip to be available for your phone. With people are having stability issues and the risk of losing root, there's should be no rush to update yet. I'd suggest just flashing TWRP and making backups at this point. Try FreeGee on the play store. If you really want the KitKat experience, try out some of the ROMs already available - they are getting more stable every week.

You are going to have to revert to stock, either D80010d or D80010o software package.
This is how I did it and remained rooted, although you will loose root in the first step but you get it right back.
Revert to stock software package D80010d using LG Flash Tools. (see the thread on this in this forum or check youtube for directions)
You can skip this step if you revert to the D80010o software package instead of the D80010d package.
Revert to stock software package D80010o using LG Flash Tools. (see the thread on this in this forum or check youtube for directions)
Once you have the D80010o installed, you need to root using the ioroot22 package. (search for ioroot22 on this forum. Some use ioroot23)
Once you are rooted, you need to contact AT&T through chat and ask them to push the D80010q or the "q" update to you.
Install the "q" update and check that you kept root.
Pull the D80020c KitKat update off of the AT&T server (though wifi) and install it.
Check for root again.
You are done. Reverting to stock will reflash the phone so you will loose everything on it so make sure you have backups of the important files. You will also loose the custom recovery TWRP if you have it installed and you will not be able to reinstall it as there is no way as of now to exploit the KITKAT software for a custom recovery.

the only way to update is to have an unmodified phone: no custom recovery(or else your phone will bootloop), no mods, no modded system apps, no xposed/modules but if you get the suspected of rooting the only way to ota is to go back to stock with the guide in the general section hoping the ota appears again

yes that is true so you can backup your apps with titanium and then after you get the update and root restore the apps/data

well that may/may not work, the moment you root it triggers a flag in the persist folder and I am not sure if just unrooting removes this flag

Well I don't know what it brings and if says app enhancements then it probably just updates some apps
