I feel bad for you son, cause I got 99 problems but battery life ain't 1!
Seriously. I don't know what all this whine about battery life is about. I am running stock 2.2 unrooted. All I did was change a few settings on my phone and I get battery life to last 1-2 full days with normal use. With heavy usage, I get only about 15 hours.
All I did to achieve this was
* Turn of background data
* Lower the screen time out to 30 seconds
* Lower the contrast of my display
* Synching Gmail (push notifications) and Weather (every 6 hours), disabling news, stocks, twitter/facebook (I don't use any of that stuff)
* Keep Wifi, BT, and GPS off, mostly because I do not need them.
I personally don't use facebook/twitter all that much and really don't have a desire to be updated when my friends change their status. But either way, my configuration works for me. And, I am not sacrificing any features (that I use) to achieve my setup.
I don't know. I read all the little battery dances to do to squeeze out more battery life. I've tried them, but frankly I see little if any difference in my battery life if I do that. The phone uses a lot of battery, yes. But, it is also more powerful than the desktop computer I was using two years ago. Hell, it is more powerful than the laptop computer I was using four years ago. And today, I have it in the palm of my hand.
We cannot expect to get the same battery lives out of our EVOs as we did from an old school Nokia. The fact is this phone just does "more". My previous phone was a Palm Treo Pro. That phone literally did crap, and I still had to charge it almost nightly.
Just sayin'.
I agree, I actually managed to get 54 hours out of my Evo with light use and I thought that was impressive, sure I can probably kill it in 5 or 6 hours if I use it non stop but I have yet to need to charge it at work because I can't ever find the time to play on my phone all day.

So OP, you've turned off all the best features of a smart phone and you get great life. Fun, yawn, I could have all that with a flip phone.
Impress me and do the same while actually USING all the cool features. I don't think folks want a dumb smart phone with great battery life.......

What cool feature am I not using? I have my push Gmail, play Word Feud constantly, am always browsing the internet, etc. I just don't use facebook, twitter, stocks, etc. To me, that stuff isn't cool.
And no, I synch weather every six hours.

Well, he originally stated that he had both Gmail and weather set to sync every 6 hours. Personally, I don't have any battery problems, but I am rooted with Sprint's bloatware removed.

exactly
who cares that you have a limited dumbed down phone that can run days on end blah!!! This device is obviously meant to be user connected. We shouldnt have to shell out money and then limit ourselves to certain **** just to conserve battery!!! htc is even dumber for making the charge software charge to a set 1500mah or whatever the specs of the stock battery is #fail #facepalm
lol
not to mention...we didnt pay $200 plus for a device and $10 a month for nothing.
can we compare that to buying a cadillac or a mercedes with no leather seats? or how about those new modern muscle cars like a charger/challenger without the hemi hehee

I meant weather synchs every 6. Gmail is and always is push.

Be careful with these 3rd Party batteries. Some may work, others may not.
Generally I wouldn't use a cheap high capacity battery, you cannot be certain of their manufacturing process or reliability. I would recommend buying an additional "Official" HTC battery. I keep a spare, wrapped in cling-film, in my car.

i wouldnt even trust the "official" ones, i have seen fake nokia batteries where the hologram has been counterfeit, and i would bet that happens with alot of "official" batteries...
I wouldn't buy anything "Official" from eBay anyway. Find an approved HTC re-seller and Robert's your fathers brother.

Haveyou got Juice Defender installed?
Here's my tale...
I got my DHD last Saturday, having spent 2 years in the company of a reliable and juice-frugal TouchHD. What a shock the DHD was! I set it up to do the same things the THD did (push Exchange server, 4 other email accounts syncing every 10 minutes, FB, etc), and I found a full battery lasted 5 hours. After tweaking it to within an inch of its life, including making exchange only look for new mail every 30 mins, it was only marginally better.
I called HTC UK support on Thursday and described the issues. I had until this Saturday (yesterday) to decide if I was keeping the phone, and despite loving its features, design, etc, I just could not live with a battery which failed to last a full day without being tethered to a charger.
The chap I spoke to at HTC checked the incident logs and NO-ONE HAS REPORTED CRAP BATTERY LIFE OFFICIALLY TO HTC!!! I found that amazing, but I guess most folks would rather ***** on here about it than tell someone who really needs to hear it. ;-) Anyway, he systematically went through everything I needed to do with the phone so that he understood what kind of user I was, and then as an afterthought said, "I have a great little app on my phone which manages the services I'm not using and switches them off", so I asked him to tell me more... "Well, I'm not really supposed to push non-HTC apps", he said, "but if you squeeze and orange, you get...?" and then "...and in a football team you have strikers, midfielders, and ....?"
Juice Defender, says I. Yep, he says.
So, here I am, 3 days later, and this app has revolutionised the phone for me. I still have push email on, but juice defender just turns on 3G for 1 minute every 15 minutes and runs all the updates (5 mail accounts, FB update, exchange sync, etc). I put JD on a fully charged phone at 1pm on thursday, never charged it again, and went to bed with over 40% juice left. Right now, I've been up since 8amwhen the phone was unplugged, and its nearly 11am now, and I've been on ebay for 20 mins, played a pool game for 20 mins, checked my emails 3 times, and installed 2 apps via AppBrain, and I still have 87% battery. Without JD in, I'm convinced that would be down to about 25%.
Works like a dream for me, and it doesnt feel as though I'm sacrificing anything to achieve this great battery life. If I want to use the internet browser it just overrides JD, until I close the browser. Perfect!
Worth a try for anyone struggling with battery, and it certainly works for me. It also has a little widget which displays how "big" your battery is. Mine now thinks its 1.83 times the size of the battery I really have (which equates to having a battery of about 2250mAh!!!).
RTR
If you like JD, look for Ultimate Juice. It's from the same dev as JD.
It allows further battery tweaks, CPU scaling, location based data to name a few. Its a nice addition to JD.

Thanks Andy, I'll do that. Already passed the gospel according to JD on to another DHD owner at work (fracking copycat, if you ask me!) and a pal with a normal (now officially renamed "crappy" to my pal's face ) Desire, and it is doing the business for them too.
I forgot to mention, that people trying JD may need to set it up as an exception if they also use an auto task killer, or it may get killed as another process the user forgets to close.
No problem, you sure you need a task killer?
Android 2.2 does a very good job at handling tasks/apps. Plus its not like we're going to run out of RAM anytime soon.
No, I dont have a task killer, but the default android Task Manager (installed on my DHD as standard) has an exceptions list, so I make sure anything I dont want Android to kill is added to that. Belt and braces stop the girls seeing your kn*b until you want them to, as my Grandad used to say.

Thanx for reply, But I don`t now how setup the JD, at the moment I`m using task killer, but if I install JD I still need the task killer or not????(sorry for my English)
No, you don't 'need' the task killer as 2.2 manages background processes automatically. All JD does is shut down high drain services when you have your screen locked, rather than let them eat your battery away. Give it a go. You can easily install it if you find it does nothing for you.
Good luck

There are 1500 and 1600!
Any one who have tried them?

I am using Yoobao 1200mah battery, as good as original...I think we all just have to accept that big screen & slim phones won't have a good battery life. Just get a spare battery & a portable charger, and you will be set for a day.
I have tried JD Ultimate last version and it sucks my battery juice. I had to get rid off of it. Looks like some changes were done since the previous version. Previous version worked well for me.
I have a 1600 and it works great for me, on 4 bucks.

would like to know something about this aswell
I can use *#*#4636#*#* and I read somewhere that it can help with battery life if I set a certain antenna from there? I forgot where I read it though, if someone can please let me know that would be great. There are NO rogue apps running, I only have about 10 installed.
The phone is 4 days old, so it could be why but I've battery cycled it twice already (letting it run dead and recharging it for 10 hours). All my widgets are off except weather and that is set to update every 3 hours and it is NOT using GPS. Wifi is off, so is bluetooth. Gps is off as well.
Is anyone using maximum power saver or just the regular nighttime setting for those reporting better battery life? I also uninstalled launcher pro, it seemed to glitch my phone a lot with the google toolbar and also seemed to have a slightly bigger toll on my battery. Also battery health is stating "Good". Is that the best or does it still need more conditioning?
You probably shouldn't change things in there. Look elsewhere to conserve battery.
You didn't note what your battery life is like either. But you should still let the battery charge and drain a few more times before trying to squeak out more battery life by modifying something like this....

Well I'll give you an example. The phone was unplugged almost 6 hours yesterday, and I used it around 3 hours and 46 minutes max. It got down to 5 percent and shut off. I had my music i was listening to for 25 minutes. I had my IM program on for about an hour, had a 12 minute phone call. Was texting back and forth mainly, and I checked a few things on the browser and exited out. MY IM program uses GPS to get my location but only when I request to do so, then shut the gps off. I force closed it when I was done to be sure it wasn't gonna drain any more of my battery. My notifications are off mainly except for my texts and such. And this was with JuiceDefender on the last half of the battery.
I don't like programs like Juice Defender to be honest. They usually go buggy and drain the battery more than it saves. People just get excited and leave positive reviews.
I'd honestly reset to factory settings in case there was a one-off glitch. Set things up again and use it like you would normally to gauges things. My battery lasted over 40 hours from the first charge.
With results that bad, I wouldn't troubleshoot beyond resetting it. Take it back if that's the case. That's not right. And it's not worth your time.

That code just pushes your phone to use EDGE only and not 3G. It can increase battery life if your phone is constantly trying to hold on to a spotty 3G signal, which can be common .

Generally. I allow that there are some that are not battery hogs. I do know the chat program on my Touch Pro (I forget what it was) would suck my battery dry in an hour or two if left running in the background.
I am experiencing a 20% battery drop overnight consistently over last few days (can't remember what the drop was when i first got the tab). It's true that I have quite a few apps installed. But none running overnight that "actively" run in the notifications bar (like skype) - only 'push' stuff (email, whatsapp etc.)
Looked at what is causing it and it's "Android OS".... i hope it's not another Android OS "bug" like the Samsung Galaxy S2 (which luckily I didn't experience with my S2!)
What's everyone else's battery life in an idle state / overnight?
An easier way to diagnose this is to use betterbatterystats, it eliminates 99% of the guess work.
Have you tried betterbatterystats? It costs a few bucks, I think, but it has really helped me stop some battery killers. I was surprised by some apps that had wakelocks and weren't identified in the basic android battery information screen.
Will give it a go
So 20% drop overnight is not normal then?
I only charge mine every few days. I haven't noticed a huge battery drop overnight.

Your usage seems abnormally high.
I have monitored the battery usage overnight for the past week of my new tab 7.7 3G and at the same time my old tab 7 3G. The 7.7 drops on average of 3% overnight (equivalent to 0.3%/hour) while the old tab has been dropping 10% overnight (a little over 1%/hour).
I have a couple of screens full of widgets on both. Neither of them set to auto-update widgets and have all notifications off. Wifi is on for both, while the 7.7 has a sim in it and the tab 7 does not.

Mine was consuming battery like yours and I found out it was because of the Samsung email client that I've setup to get push email from google. The email apps keep giving me unable to connect gmail but in actual fact the email was push to me. I left it like that initially until I found exchange service as my to battery consumer. After removing my gmail account from the apps, everything back to normal. I think there is a big with the Samsung email client that keep trying to connect to the exchange server and sucks all the juice.

*** NOTE ***
I just realized i posted to the Nexus One forum, not Galaxy Nexus as i had intended..
Hello everyone
I thought i should share what i just discovered. I disabled the syncing of facebook contacts, and my battery usage seems to have dropped significantly.
I have deactivated the autosync and notifications in the facebook app ages ago. The only change now was that in "Accounts and sync".
The first ~8h of my battery history is during the night (see attached screenshots)
Although our devices are different, I have to agree with you on the sync and battery issues. I use Facebook a lot and would love auto syncing, but it hits the battery too hard. What I did was disable syncing in settings>accounts and in the Facebook app it's self. I noticed that my battery drained at a much lower rate after doing this. Another think you can do is lower the frequency at which the app updates; but still there will be the update service running and your battery will continue to drain.
Welcome to the N1 section
Thanks
Still waiting for the day battery issues are a distant memory..
Yea, smartphones are great and all, but battery always sucks. We need a company to create a new technology to make them smaller and more efficient. What mAh size is the G Nexus's battery?
Big screens, multiple accounts and some application polling to get notification drains battery significantly. Day will come when there ll be batteries which will last more..

It has a 1750 mAh battery.
I think a methanol fuel cell would be nice. Methanol is 15 times more energy dense than a Lithium Ion battery. The only problem is making a small and safe enough fuel cell.
I think I am having the same issue with my Nexus One running stock 2.3.6. The past few days, I've noticed that my battery has been draining very fast. Normally, I had gotten a solid two days on a charge, but now I'm lucky if I'm getting an entire day on one charge. I haven't changed my usage habits at all. I had noticed that the Facebook app had notifications enabled and was checking for notifications once an hour. I disabled notifications, but the battery drain seems to be continuing. I've checked for other apps that may have gotten updated which are looking for notifications, but nothing else seems to have been changed.
