Home button lag - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone else suffers from a lag when pressing the home (and also power) button while screen is off? I expect it to response much faster to turn screen on.
Is there a way to eliminate or tweak this thing?
Note that I already disabled S Voice double home key button and reduced the animations scale to 0.5 (in developer settings).

Same here I also have exactly same probken and I and everyone else have to wait for the update to fix this problem

It's actually a bug to fix.

Mine does this also. Does anybody else's phone screen just go black when pushing the home button while the screen is on? My screen will just go black and come back on but doesn't go back to the "Home" screen.

I noticed this when I switched my SD card. I have a 32gig SanDisk and it works fine. I switched to a Team 64gig and I had major lag when pressing the home/power button. Best results is no SD card installed at all...

Have you tried using it with no SD card or low memory SD card? See any difference?

I can confirm that the SD card makes a difference.
My 64GB high speed makes it alot worse. I tried a 8GB class4 one and it wasn't as bad.
I'm planning to run the app "soft locker" to prevent the phone from sleeping and monitor the batt life. It makes you switch on the phone instantly.

Alright...
I used softLocker overnight and it drained 4% over a time span of 4.5hrs, basically draining the batt at a rate or 0.89% per hour.
This is with WiFi on throughout. It might be worthwhile to use this during the day. I will continue to test with with different CPU profiles (powersave governor & low speed when screen off).

same issue on mine
galaxy s5 g900h

Mine too!
I noticed in my battery read out that the blue line at bottom of graph rarely if at all is not constant, I read in another forum that when the phone is sleeping there should be no blue line below the graph. The issue seems to have been determined to be related to the SD card, especially 64 gig class ten types. Don't know if that information is correct but I am researching it.

It's not just the 64 gig. I have the 32 gig Sandisk card and I am getting that slight delay as well. When I had the 8 gig card in it was instant action. Now I notice the lag. Can this be fixed via a software update?? This phone should be able to handle up to 128 gigs, so not sure why it's slowing down..

SOLVED! Make CorePlayer keep playing music when I turn the screen off?

Aside from having to actually hit Menu -> Options -> (scroll down) Blank Screen, is there a tweak to make CorePlayer keep playing music when I just hit the power button on top of the phone to turn off the screen?
Hate keeping the screen on since it eats up so much battery. The HTC Music player (on the TF3D music tab) keeps playing with the screen off, but I can't stand the minimalistic library functions of that one.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
In Coreplayer go to menu>tools>hotkeys and add a new hotkey for blank screeen. Takes five seconds. Don't know another way but this is fine.
I've had some success by going into registry and changing HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\State\Unattended "wav1" value from "4" to "0", but I run into a problem where when I turn the screen off, after a minute or so songs stop loading from the storage card and music stops. If it hits the end of the song it won't load the next, or 2-3 minutes into a song they simply stop. Something in power management is still killing power to the storage card I think.
I've been able to stream Pandora and Groove shark without this problem.
Are you using s2u2?
If so, check this:
http://www.modaco.com/content/i9x0-...hen-i-put-my-omnia-into-standby/#entry1066509
And
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4468939&postcount=14
I don't use S2U2. I suspect its something in the power management killing the storage card read. It stops playing 2-3 minutes into a song or once the song is done it won't load the next song.
I've tried playing with a bunch of stuff in the Control\Power\State settings, but I can't find anything that I believe is power control for the storage card access.
I copied EB91C7C9-8BF6-4a2d-9AB8-69724EED97D1 (Power-manageable display) into the Backlight section, and whatever that calls does it I believe because when the screen turned full off (Not just backlight dim) the problem showed up again 2-3 minutes into a song from storage card.
Awesome! A combination of your registry fix from above, and the registry fix to disable SD card power management have solved it! I just played three songs, totaling roughly 10 minutes, with the screen off using CorePlayer!! That is EXACTLY what I hoped to accomplish here.
So, try this registry edit. To disable storage card power management, look here:
HKLM\Drivers\SDCARD\ClientDrivers\Class\SDMemory_Class
Set DisablePowerManagement to a "1" (no quotes obviously)
If you dont have that DWord value in there already, go ahead and create a new DWord named exactly like above, and set its value to a "1"
Save it, soft reset, and you should be good to go!
Thanks a million for pointing out your reg fix - that's essentially what did it! I already had the DisablePowerManagement set because I read it helps save battery life.
Good job!!
DisablePowerManagement was already set to 1, I toggled it back and forth and still no dice for me.
Really? Odd.
Check to see if the other three classes are set to 1's as well - MMC_Class, NAND_Class, and SIM_Class. All of mine are set to a 1. Then make sure to soft-reset the phone.
Just to be clear on how I used CorePlayer; I started it up, opened a playlist, started playing the music. Then I hit the home key to go back to Today Screen, and then I turned off the screen with the power button on top of the phone. Like i said, I played it for a good 10 minutes, and it never even stuttered. It had no problems going from one song to the next either.
Let us know if you get it to work.
Thanks again,
Yeah, they are all set to 1. None of my music players will continue playing a song from the storage card for long or move onto the next song if it finishes one. Wish I could figure out whats turning off the storage card. Are you using Windows Mobile 6.1 or 6.5? I'm on 6.5.
I'm running the sound out through the external speaker, and its not just turning off the speaker, its stopping playback. I think its hitting the end of the buffer because some songs get about as far as 70%. I'll keep digging.
I'm using 6.5 on the latest Energy ROM.
Here's a thought. In CorePlayer, under Menu -> Tools -> Settings -> Buffering, I do NOT have "Microdrive mode" checked. Perhaps see what yours is set to and if checked, uncheck it.
Then at the top of that page, my values (from top down) are: 512KB, 70.0%, and 64KB.
Wouldn't hurt to make sure yours are the same and see if you get better results.
Keep us posted, and good luck,
What MicroSD card are you using? I'm using an A-Data 16GB Class 6. If you're using a Class 2 I suspect it might be the difference in cards since someone mentioned somewhere else that they were seeing different results in power management between a class 6 and a class 2 SDHC card.
Hmm, interesting thought. I'm not even sure what class mine is, but if I had to guess from what it says on the card itself I'd guess Class 4?
It's a Kingston 8GB. Below where it says Kingston 8GB it says SDC4/8GB 07
Me thinks you're probably on the right track here. Who'd have thought having an older, lower class card would be a good thing? Geez...
Well, good luck,
Testing some more. I put 3 songs into device memory. They play fine after I hit the power button and turn the screen off. Also, on AC power, Coreplayer continues to play from the Storage card no problem. So its some sort of Power management issue. I'd hate to throw down money on a slower card and find it doesn't work as well. Maybe there is another toggle in the registry somewhere I am missing.
in my SDMemory_Class registry, there's a folder called High_Capacity. perhaps try copying thr DisablePowerManagement entry into that folder as well, since you have an SDHC card. then reboot and see what you get...
keep us posted.
I tried that. No go. Scouring the registry.
I would think there is a tweak somewhere to apply full power to the SD card even when in the different modes (ScreenOff, Suspended, Unattended, etc).
I am looking for this same fix. I have an 8 gb class 4 sandisk and will let you guys not how the reg edits go for me.
When i first got my (sprint) tp2 before i unlocked it or before i flashed any roms, pushing the power button would turn off the screen and allow the music to keep playing for any program i tested (groovefish, coreplayer, wmp, pandora, gsplayer) It is too bad that no rom since then has had the same functionality and the "stock" rom dl that I found over at ppcgeeks also didnt work. So if anybody has a completely untouched tp2 and they want to test the power button behavior that would be great. Then maybe we could compare the registries
No luck with the registry. I've found more info in another thread. I'm going to assume its the MicroSD card at this point. It's performed well in every other respect but this one.

Don't buy transcend 16GB: they don't suppor power resume after sleep mode.
Example:
Create a windows media player music catalog placed on storage card
and activate random player.
Connect your htc headset and start listening music.
As soon as your device will go into standy/sleep mode with player running
on the next song the music will stop as your sdCard will disappear from system.
Modifying PnpUnloadDelay (and similar) doesnt help nor disabling sd-power-safe.
Tried 4 trasdendend with 3 different pro2: the same problem.
Bought a sandisk and resolved

Guess I'll look at getting a Kingston or Sandisk 16GB Class 2 or 4.
I'll try to remember to update once I get a new MicroSD card.
**Edit
I'm currently looking at getting a Sandisk Mobile Ultra 16GB Class 4 in a week and a half when I get paid. They are pricey but look like one of the best Class 4 16GB cards out there. Anyone know of any problems with them?
So the edits worked great with my 8 gig sandisk class 4. I bought it in malaysia over a year ago so it is pretty old and cheap. Internet players continue to play after pushing the power button to turn off the screen and playing stuff off my sd card works as well. I let it run for about 25 min with the screen off playing items in coreplayer from the sd card.
that sucks. hopefully you can get a refund.
damn fine investigative work though!

good luck,
that is too bad things like this need to be made aware to the public so that no on buys from that company until they decide to make a more quality product. Most people (me included until i read this thread) think that size and speed are the only 2 contributing factors on portable memory like that, I would have never thought to ask "Hm, i wonder if this card can resume power after the phone is put into a sleep, or sleep like state?"

I have tried restarting and it still does it. At first I thought it was when the wifi was on, but the problem exists either way. Anyone have any suggestions? Dude I had the same problem with mine running that rom. I would turn screen on and off till touch screen worked. It gradually got worse and worse till it just stopped working. Don't know if its the rom that cuased it or just my device since my touchscreen just gave out and no longer works on windows or android. It's sent off for repair.
i'm also having this same problem with the combo in my sig. very annoying.
Now the problem has spread to winmo too. i have a horrible feeling the touchscreen is going bad as well. what do you have to do to get it back to stock so you can get a replacement?

I have exactly the same problem ! With hd roms too.
For all friends experiencing this issue here is my sum-up:
- HD2 (as I read somewhere) has slightly different resolution than what Android places on the screen (difference in 4 pixels I guess) - but this should not be the issue for normal operation right? Well, maybe yes maybe not.
- My screen went dead completely after using many ROMs but the longest I used was hyperdroid - again I don't think it is build related but hardware related issue.
- I sent back to Tmobile mine and got replacement - but until this one will work we will see...
Solution in USA: I have enrolled myself in extended warranty for $2/mo -- technically it covers the phone for as long as you have it (exclusions are of course liquid and physical damage) but anything else - covered. I even asked what happens if HD2 is discontinued and they said I would get comparable replacement of my choice. Therefore, I am covered.
NOTE: Tired tonight to do any updates - but Im gonna install back HD rom now and move on - push it really hard until it dies again ahahhahaha - cuz guess what? I don care - since im covered now...
it is the power button (AP Board); it gets stock inside. my does it all the time i just played with the botton untill it goes. the AP Board needs to be replace.
Is that a bug of android or is my hd2 defect?
its cuz of the setcpu

This is not the problem we are experiencing. You are experiencing the sleep of death.
What we are experiencing (MYSELF INCLUDED - THOUGH NOT AS OFTEN) is an unresponsive screen when the screen comes on and go to the lock screen, though it wont register the unlock swipe. It takes a good 3-5 seconds for it to become responsive. Not a deal breaker but definitely annoying as hell!
I am having the same issue as the OP and i wish someone can find a way to fix it because it is very annoying.
It's caused by low SD card speed when r/w small block. I used kingstone SD card before, i had the same problem as you. After I switched to Sandisk, the problem is gone. I test the speed of two card, for large block r/w, they had the same speed, but for small block. Sandisk is 20 times faster than kingstone.

thank you my friend. I Change it and all is ok.
Um try waking the screen with other button than the power one that sud help but this is a hardware issue I experience it too and it usually get worse over time so best bet for u is to send it in under your repair or get yrself a replacement but it doesn't have anything to do with specific Rom just is that android puts so much stress on our hardware button because Android heavily relies on the keys through the operating system and the hardware keys ware out and cause this issue so look into this as well but before you send it in revert It back to the stock Rom
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
No I am pretty sure that it is not a hardware issue. I to have had it, and it is gone the only thing i can relate it to is that i stoped using mdjays kernell,, and started to use hastarin again. well it sure is a longshot but mine works perfekt again.
Do your finger on the sensor and turn it on.
I have the default 16 Gb class 2 card tmobile usa gave me and my hd2 did this on all builds until the new hastarin recently and it stopped it. Has not come back yet. So, while the sd card may have some pull in this issue, the kernel can play a factor too. Try using hastarin's kernel just for a day and see if it works.
ummm ive come up with this

SD card issue fix - Need testers!

Hi all,
A few of us on the SD card list thread have tried this and it seems to be stablizing things....the theory as we are working with now is that the problem is due to a power control issue in the Samsung drivers for the phone, not especially in the card itself.
No ill effects have been reported as of yet, and the battery life seems to be on par with before the switch was made. It is a simple fix, and can be reversed easily.
I ran the phone for 2 months without a card, and with these keys toggled, it is actually FASTER than it was. I don't fully believe it, but it has been over a week and rock solid.
First off, you need to dev unlock your phone. See the thread here for simple and complete instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=938106
Next off, you need to toggle the following 3 registry keys in the Registry Editor provided in the above post:
The keys have to do with MMC (internal memory) power management. The big speed improvements is in games/apps (Fruit Ninja opens and operates leaps and bounds faster than it did when the phone did stock!)
Code:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>Drivers>SDCARD>ClientDrivers>Class>MMC_Class>DisablePowerManagement (Change to 0)
Code:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>Drivers>SDCARD>ClientDrivers>Class>MMC_Class>High_Capacity>DisablePowerManagement (Change to 0)
Code:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>Drivers>SDCARD>ClientDrivers>Class>SDMemory_Class>DisablePowerManagement (Change to 0)
One point of note here, do not be afraid if the phone locks up the first time soft resetting after these changes, mine did and it was fine after a battery pull.
Also, I would be interested to hear any theories about why this one made such a big difference when it seemingly affects only the internal storage. Maybe because the two storage devices are "bridged" by WP7?
Comment below with your experiences please!
If this gets enough test results, we will submit it to Microsoft. Thanks!
As I already mentioned:
Up to now I just did the SD card registry hack. The device is now stable for over 3 days, longer than ever before.
Battery life wasn't noticable affected, lasted for around 40h with moderate usage (thumbs up indeed).
In fact without this registry hack I wasn't able to get down to an empty battery without those reboting/dataloss issues.
But I need some more days, then I will change the MMC registry key also.
No speed improvements mentioned up to now.
I applied the hack to all three keys. So far, it is much less laggy. Not sure if that will return after 4+ weeks as before, but here's a pretty cool side effect:
After the hack, my screen does not stop responding to touch when the phone is placed on my desk or a soft surface, like a couch cushon. It was getting really annoying because I often place mu phone on my desk during the day for easy access, but every time I tried to onlock it, it would not respond unless I picked it up. Sometimes, it's nice to leave it lying down and operate it. Couldn't do that before, but I can now! WooHoo! Thank you for this.
I'll report back if it starts up again in a couple weeks.
Sent from my Focus WP7 using Board Express
Whoa! I just tested this and you are correct! More proof that the Samsung power drivers are full of problems. Who would have thought?
For testing purpose I changed the MMC Keys also and made some Videos (no I won't upload them). There were absoluteley no differences in app loading times (ok, i know the longer loading apps are pretty much all stored on the sd card, ) and also not in overall performance, although this isn't provable easily.
I changed the keys back to normal, but kept the sd card key change to 0.
I address the positive speed effects to sdcard key for now. Perhaps i will make some tests without any reg change in the next few days.
Still stable as hell!
Edit: Damn I forgot to test the not responding problem (even though i didn't notice it that often and badly)

As I mentioned above, I'm hoping it's not just a result of resetting something and it still returns in a few weeks. Although, the thing about the screen touch response not working when laying on something is COMPLETELY GONE! That alone is worth the setting change. It really was annoying for me the way I use the phone. Thank you to eveyone involved in finding this setting.
PS: From my perception, I don't believe my battery is behaving any differently. Although, I would imagine if it were scientifically tested, it surely would be using slightly more juice. But it still had the normal amount left in the evening, and I probably used it slightly more testing it out. Maybe getting the screen to perform better uses less power?
For the sake of completeness: I set the sd card key back to 1, and I do not experience any slow down in overall performance or in app loading times. Still I cannot reproduce any of those not responding issues you mentioned.
For today and tomorrow I will stay with this setting an will wait for a random reboot. Let's see what and when it happens.
tried this with a 16gb class2 sandisk... loaded it up to 9.25 left and the reboot monster came... but it was weird... it would rebllt like every 30 sec with no loss then poof all lost...then rendom self reboot all mem would reappear and start the reboot process all over.... now it didnt do this till it was unplugged.... plugged in it was fine... reformatted... re set up did the tweak... loaded and the same as before... so for me no... but im going to test it with another card on the list... heres to hoping....
but it does fix the sitting on the bed and unresponsive gimmick.....
So would this be worthwhile even for someone without an sdcard? For the screen response issue i mean. It's so annoying haha.
edit: Screw it i went ahead and did it hah. It def fixed the touch screen responsiveness issue!
Which cards?
Can you guys post the specific SD cards you are testing this with. I am curious to see if somebody has tested it with the Sandisk class 2 32gb card. Thanks.

Sebo's testing with a SanDisk Class 4 32GB card which ended up being more stable (before it failed and before he tried the registry stuff) than the Class 2s from Sandisk.
Based on what you have read, would it be best to get rid of the class 2 32gb card or wait to see if there is an actual fix? Since this seems to be a power issue based on the fix, does it really matter what class it is then? Thanks.

Something to keep in mind is that this registry hack is relatively new. Some people managed to go for weeks without issues on an unmodified WP7 with a card. It's entirely possible that these hacks are just a stopgap, or a reset, and actually *fix* nothing.
Theoretically, the card shouldn't matter. If I hadn't locked my 32GB Class 4 Kingston to my old (bricked) Focus, I would try it with the current one and see if doing the registry tweaks fixes the slow sync issue on it. Someone in the SD Card List thread claims to have done the registry tweaks and it ended up failing badly too with a 16GB Class 2 Sandisk. However, the 16GB Class 2 Sandisk is one of the more reliable ones (without tweaks) through the limited testing this board has done, so it's possible he has a bad card.
In brief, it shouldn't matter (within reason) what brand/class/capacity you use. If this tweak is the real deal, it should work, especially if your only concern is random reboots. However, you still would want to avoid cards with extremely high class ratings at typically their random read/write is slow (which the most common usage of the storage in WP7). In terms of performance, there's no guarantee as to what these tweaks will do as the only consistent change has been that phones that would constantly reboot due to their cards aren't (yet).
However, to answer your initial question, I don't believe anyone has tested a Class 2 Sandisk 32GB card. I wouldn't put too much faith that your card will have the exact same results as Sebo's class 4 because we aren't certain what the cause is. We believe it's power, but we're not 100% sure. If you're already using the card in your phone, you don't really have much to lose. If you're not using it yet, then you only have something to lose if you, like me, don't have a Nokia/Symbian phone that you can use to reformat the card if it fails.
Good post fishface.... That's where most are thinking its a fix.. This is just a theory right now.. That's why there's another post wanting testers... my find was it did fix the sensitivity issue...theres no doubt on my end.. But card wise my 16gb class2 SanDisk worked before I tried this until I hit 15gb used... Then it went goofy... I tried it 5 times.. Same thing. Just about 15gb used was where the instability happened. Soon as the reg hack hit I read thru it.. I love reg edits.. Made my Omnia 2 &hd2 quite decent phones... That's when I saw the mention of others thinking this too.. So I took my 16gb class2 SanDisk that I freshly brought back to life, and decided to test it out... I posted the results before... Plugged in no issue.. Unplugged it went goofy at 12.7 used... I was stable at that point before without the edits... Not saying it doesn't help but it made mine worse... I'm still going to try other cards though .. I do think there is something to this... I might try different scenarios of the edit... What's it going to hurt..i mean were here for the same goal to help find a solution... Well except the lurkers..you all know who you are..lol. But again. Great post fishface...
Thanks for all of the info. I guess fix is the wrong word to use, but i was just trying to get an idea of what others have done. Whenever i would pass the 10gb mark, mine would do a full wipe after a couple of restarts. I still have my 32gb card in my phone, because there really is no point of taking it out and possibly loosing it. Plus i was hoping an official fix would come out so i could just apply the patch. I have been waiting to see when the MS update would come out so i could do a full backup before running test. Thank you for your help.
anyone tried messing with block sizes? Default is 128. I'm wondering if maybe your sd card has trouble with that block size its causing the lagginess. Who knows lol....

Also I'm still using my 32gb Kingston class 4. I have all 3 keys set to 0. And its still going strong other than that one reset I had. MMC block size 128 sd block size 128. If my sd card can't handle that large of a block size I would have instability.

Anyone know if this also fixes the song stuttering issue? That's definitely power related since it only happens in the last couple of seconds of a song if the screen is off. One you turn it back on, the music plays perfectly.

I'm stuck. Made it through the first three downloads and have my phone unlocked.
Followed Registry Editor link and downloaded RegistryEditor 1.1.0.0.xap. My computer will not open up this file because it doesn't know what program to use, so I tried to download it straight to my phone and my phone says it doesn't support xap. What steps am I missing?
How do I get into the registry to change the three tabs?

[Q] New A500 owner, couple of noob questions

Hi folks, got my A500 refurb for 200 bucks last night. Its mint, and so far awesome. I am coming from a Nook Color as my last tablet so this is a huge jump. Updated OTA to ICS this morning.
Couple of simple questions:
1. How do I turn off haptic feedback? It wasn't on when it was on HC, but in ICS it has it, the vibrate on this thing is strong enough for it to be annoying. I looked under keyboard settings which is where it is on any of my old devices, and its not there, unless I missed it?
2. Does this thing go to sleep if you leave the screen off for an extended period, like shut off the wifi and go low power? my Nook does that, not sure if theres a setting I need to set. I left for work this morning and left it on my desk, on and connected to WiFi, am I gonna come home to 50% battery?
3. Tried the Hero of Sparta game on it last night while still on HC. Played great but the sound was choppy, I have heard some attribute sound issues to Dolby Mobile, is that the case? Should I try again with Dolby turned off?
4. I believe I read that you can't move apps to the SD card with ICS? Is that the case, because I bought an 8gb tab which means I'm gonna run out of space real quick. Can rooting fix that?

1. In sound settings
2. I'd be worried if I came home to find my battery at 50 per cent, you be fine
2. Check advanced wifi settings- can tell wifi when to sleep
3. Cant help with this, experiment and find out
4. Not heard of anyone running out - that usb port comes in mighty handy!!!
5. Welcome to the forum

Thanks for the tips, I came home and it was at 92 percent
Shutting off Dolby did fix the sound problem
I put a 32 GB micro SD in it. I was concerned games wouldn't install to it, and apparently they don't. I don't have a lot installed and yet I have less than 1.5gb remaining.
Thanks for the welcome

I got a sandisk class 4. It seems to work fine but the fact there's no way to move apps to it makes it a bit useless. I'm not much of a music/movie guy I usually use streaming so media space is wasted on me. Is there a fix for that yet?
app2sd
You might want to try App2sd from the google play store. The app won't move all apps to SD card, only apps that are moveable. So this app won't totally solve your problem but it should help.

Yeah I have that but it apparently doesn't work with ICS. I read somewhere else here someone complained about this as well. The button doesn't even show up to move apps to SD.

A lot of games and other Database apps usually save the Data to the Ext SD Card by default, or give you an option for location. At least what I've come across.

A Class 4 is a hair on the slow side, anyways. You would likely see a real world performance hit running apps off a class 4 card.

Yeah the games do save there, but you can't move the actual app to the SD card which is nice to do. I bought an 8 gb tab and with only about 10 games on there and whatever apps I have I'm down to only 1.5 gb.
EDIT: I am wrong. The games do not save there. If I look in ES File Explorer the /mnt/sdcard folder shows a bunch of stuff, yet when I pull the SD card and put it in my PC, its blank except a couple of android insertd folders. I believe ICS DOES NOT save to the SD card? Can anyone else check? In ES File explorer, the sd card I inserted is shown as folder "external_sd" while theres a separate sdcard folder of which nothing in there is on the sd card.
I am wondering if I can just copy the data to the SD card, delete the "sdcard" folder and rename external to "sdcard"

Class 4 is the go to card on many many phones, the higher classes suffer on performance for many phone tasks which are I/O but work great for recording video or taking pictures. Class 10 especially really is made for digital cameras and actually performs worse than a 4 on a phone/tablet.

Unlocking screen takes while!

Hey,
Did anyone had a same feeling about unlock a screen?
I use my nexus 5 and time of reaction - click a power button to switch on screen takes not even one second was reacting so fast that I can't even say how fast it was but in case of my new device which is Samsung s5 is takes while longer !!! And I check with power button and home button. Now I don't know if that's problem with my device or some one else have same feeling.

Try to live with it.

but I've nexus 5 galaxy s4 and is not that extremely long like s5
Try turning off animations. That usually does it up. I know it does in all previous galaxy models I've used.
Edit: that will speed up unlocking but not waking the phone which is what you are after. The title confused me a bit.

That what i did first and still unlock time take while sometimes not but most of the time is slow reaction from click power/home button to wake up phone takes while is really disappoint
I also just noticed this as well. It started happening after I installed the 32 gig SD card. There is a slight delay when I press the power or home button. It's not drastic, but slightly noticeable. I had the GS2 and never had that. Is this something that can be fixed by software update? Besides that one nuance, this phone is excellent in every way!
Two things after much research!

This seem to be a hardware/firmware problem. Some of the remedies that have worked for me are: 1.) Turn off auto brightness. 2.) Use a smaller SD card, 16 gigs or less.
Check your battery graph. Is there a constant blue line underneath the graph, if there is, like on mine, I was told it should not be there! I have heard that the only time the blue line should appear is when the screen is on. I am still researching this information but many heads are always better than one. :fingers-crossed:

Interesting you mentioned using a smaller SD card. I just replaced my 8 gig card for a 32 gig card and that's when I noticed the difference. Why does that affect it though? This phone should be able to handle 128 gigs! I really hope this is software related. I never use auto brightness, so I know for a fact it's the SD card that's causing.
Seems to be a pretty good conclusion.

I think certain class 10 high end cards require a certain amount of power to keep them alive? So when the phone goes to sleep for a period of time and the cpu processes down, maybe not enough power, either battery or cpu is being offered to the card. Since more than half of the programs are partly held by the SD card, upon waking the device it takes a some time for it to reassociate all the files? IDK, this is just my best guess as to the why. However, I tried at the suggestion of a few others a program called SD maid available at the Play store and it really seems to have helped so I bought a license to support the author. I highly recommend this app now. It's a very useful tool and for those with root, even more so!
This is certainly weird, if related to sd cards
