Hello All,
I just purchased a G2 and it's running Android 4.2.2, Build # JDQ39B, Software Version D80010q.
I'd like to root and I just read This Newbie Guide
From reading that I got that I need to go back to Software version 80100d to root is that correct?
Is this the easiest way to do so? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2663369
Anything else I should be aware of?
Just hoping someone can help me. I'm going to wait for a response before I jump in and start doing things.
This is LG G2 signing off from XDA app. Until next time!

Can someone give me more info on this? Will IORoot give me root without having to go back to 80100d? I do want to flash ROMS and use a recovery like TWRP.
Did you even go to the IORoot thread and read?

i read the forum about the vroot chinese app.
i have used this app a week ago to root my lg g2 att. i used it because i seen that it was an universal root and phonedog.com showed it.
now im kind of worried now that my phone may be infected with who knows what from that app.
how would i go about of restoring my phone back to normal with hopefully nothing bad in it.
I did a wipe after and installed a custom ROM. I don't think you have too format the whole phone

if you look at the post above yours on the lgg2 general page that is what you have to do to get back to stock and then you have to reroot using the right method make sure you've got all the right drivers installed, there is another way of doing the same thing on the lg official website but im afraid youll have to search for it. I think its also on xda and it was a little easier

i have not installed any custom rom or anything. i just rooted with vroot program last week and just added few root apps.
I see some videos on YouTube saying the root method works on all variants, but I don't see anyone that actually rooted the Sprint version yet. Anyone have any insight to share?

I second this. Additionally, does anyone know if the other recovery methods work on the ls980?

I rooted using http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DmN0K1DyYzA with no problems at all. I have the same question as far as recovery support. Can't seem to find if there is a valid recovery image for the sprint variant.
I just found this in LG G2 Original Development
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2449679
there is a sprint recovery from what I can tell.

Have you tried it out?

I wasn't able to get root access using the same method as you did. SU installs but not correctly. I had to uninstall it. In the command prompts I get some errors regarding where SU is installing and it does say success, but root is not obtained. You are SURE that you have root correct? Just asking for a confirm, but not doubting you got it if you say you did. Looks like we are the pioneers here.
Rooted with TWRP Recovery
I was able to root my LS980 with:
Root Tool:
***REMOVED***
Recovery:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2449679
Now just waiting on a rom that works with LS980. I believe I tried most of what has been posted (including CM) and have been stuck at fastboot. Maybe I'm missing something?
For the time being, I've rooted and removed most of the bloatware on my G2.
***EDIT***

Posting a list of the safe bloatware to remove would be a good thing to do.
Starting a new thread in Q and A would be best since we don't have our own forums.

Are any of the root processes totally reversible?
I have heard the verizon version of the G2 has a root checking function.
I signed up for the Jump Program and dont want to ruin eligibility.
Which root process is best for the T Mobile D801?
I've been using Nexus Devices for toooo long. LOL where is the T-Mo rom love?
Thanks
I also have the T-Mobile variant (D 801) and signed up for the JUMP program. Unfortunately, there is currently no well known proven way to reverse the process. The D801 also has a root checker. You could go back to the stock rom and hope it works for you. Mine still says "Rooted" IN RED LETTERS when I put it in download mode.
If there is still no way to reverse it, maybe selling it on eBay and paying it off will be last resort.
Still want to root? Go here

It is possible to go back the unrooted state by using the LG tools and flashing the phone back to the original firmware. It will return the phone back to original status. I had to do this after rooting my T Mobile D801 and getting stuck in the TWRP bootloop. Frustrating, but can be done though. After flashing, it should not show that it is rooted when connected to the PC in download mode.

LG tools? Original Firmware Links?
Tmo seems to have very little love.
I downloaded the flash tool & lg driver form this thread, not the kdz file or the rom tool. Just the LG flashtools & the drivers. Here's the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432476

Is there a way to restore the lg g2 to stock and reset any counters such as root checker, or anything of the sort? I have to send my G2 D800 in for warranty in a few days, and I definitely don't want them finding out about that. I have never flashed it, Just rooted.
anything
Is there any other information for this that would need to be provided?
Attention??
Why is this not getting any attention? I really need the help here
Full stock flash for your variant. Because, if you searched, you would find it.

I Have searched, perhaps not well enough, but I've searched for hours. I am having trouble confirming if there are traces of root or flashing AFTER I flash stock rom, and if so, how I would remove them. I haven't seen anything in regards to that. If you could kindly guide me to the answer that eludes me, that would be most appreciated.
From my understanding if you flash back to stock firmware for your model you'll be completely fine.

That seems to be the resounding conclusion. I just haven't seen any solid information about it. I want to be sure that's the case, ya know?

Hey! Tomorrow I'll be receiving a new LG G2 and I'm wondering what's the first thing I have to do in order to root it.
I always used HTC and Moto devices so I have quite an experience in unlocking bootloaders, but in the guide for rooting I red here, your don't have to unlock the bootloader or anything like that in order to root it, is that right? Is any step I should do before trying to root?
Thanks for your help in advance!

Hi, You have to know first what model and what version, KK? or JB?
After that, if is on KK use this Towelroot (just search forum)
All the credit goes to @geohot for amazing root by just an apk
1. Install apk
2. Make it rain
3. Phone will reboot
4. install Super SU from play store
5. Sit back and relax
For TWRP use this How To Install TWRP Recovery On LG G2 Running Android 4.4.2 Kitkat
Hope this helps

Hey, I have a D806 model. It's with JB and when I hit the manual update check it says something like "Device not registered yet".
What's best to do? First update and then root or the other way round?

Well, first of all, after you root, NEVER take an OTA update or you'll brick. That being said, although the previous way mentioned is easier, I'd suggest getting used to adb and its miracles. Check here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48709232&postcount=869 for a guide on how to root with adb. Adb is very useful if you screw something up.
As for the order in which to do things, it's basically up to you. I believe the 806 is the same as the 802, so check that section out for stock ROMs and such, especially if you root first. It seems like you may have to update manually either way since you get an error while trying to OTA update.

My pleasure I'm actually really new to Android myself (got my first device in May) and it felt overwhelming at first but everyone on XDA and all the threads are so helpful.
I almost got a HTC One before deciding on the LG G2 and I just love it. Loooooooove it.

Hey, I've already rooted it using adb. I thought I'd be fine with some Xposed modules, but I couldn't find many for the G2 so I think I'll end up installing a custom ROM based on KK stock, but since I'm in Jelly Bean I don't know how to do this (read somewhere I should flash a baseband of KK or somethings like that and got really scared haha)
Hope you can help me!
EDIT: Downloaded the Kitkat baseband and CloudyG3 ROM. I don't have TWRP because I can't find the file for D806. I'd appreciate if someone could guide me to the right direction!
