Is anyone else getting random lockups on their phone? it seems like no matter what rom i use it locks up at least once or twice a day. it seems that sense is the only thing that does lock up, as i cant hit the home button and have it go back to it.
anyone?
yeah, it happens to me too...to the point I have to remove the battery
Same here, it usually locks up once every 24 hours or so, and most times it's not even a full lockup, just the homescreen does. cause i can hit the windows button, and end button will lock the phone, just the main Today screen. Sometimes time fixes it, and it'll fix itself. but most times i take battery out
It all has to do with sense.....Horrible i know

I have had the same problem sense I purchased on Mar 24th, after trying to restore the devise 4 times within a 2 week period, I finally took it back and exchanged it for a new one, less than 24 hours, the new one froze up on me too. I searched through many forums such as this, and found that many users are having the same problem, I also read in one that the cause may be in the SD card that comes with the devise (the way it's formatted for use with it), so, 4 days ago, I removed the SD card, and the devise has worked flawless, no freeze ups, and for the last 2 days, I have not turned the devise off, and still no freeze ups. I plan on giving it a week, and if it does not freeze up on me, I'll put the card back in. I reformatted the SD card to get rid of the Double twist program, and the other apps such as the demo games, and put my music, Documents, and Photos back on it, hoping that it will work as a normal SD card when I put it back in.
Give it a try as I did, it just may be that simple fix everyone has been looking for.
Also, just for info, I'm running the stock USTMO ROM, with Cookies Home tab version 1.7 on it, Awesome and Flawless, if you don't want to flash a new ROM, you have got to at least install this add on.
I'll keep you posted on whether or not my test is successful or not
Same here
I've hard reset this thing, seriously, 20 times. Same setup as yours. I will try the sd card removal. Thanks for sharing the info.

Well, It's been 6 days and no freeze ups with the SD card removed, tomorrow I'll put the reformatted SD card back in and test it further, so far, so good
Here's a question: Do you think T-Mobile put the fastest SD cards on the market in this phone?
I simply changed the provided card for one that I purchased a week or so before I got the phone on launch day. No problems.
The ones Tmobile put in there are cheap class 2 cards. Reformatting the card has seemed to help. You would probably have better luck with a class 6 card. I'm going to wait till the price of the 32gig cards come down then get one.
EDIT: OK so I reformatted my card and its only showing 14gigs of storage, I know its not going to be exactly 16gigs of storage but I should have more than that. Anyone else have this issue?

droids come with a 8gb.
Still without issue, no lockups.
I also noticed that it was only 14.x gb free. i think its normal though.

I think you are wrong as she just got the phone and it definitely has a 16gb card.
defective phone
i think the ramdom lock-ups are associated with the phone and not the custom ROMs. i've flashed about 6 different TMO-US rom from here and they all lock up my phone. so they all can't be bad, right? well, the other thing i noticed was that when it did lock up, i could feel the bottom-half of the phone was hot, right below the battery cover. i think my phone is defective because if i multi-task, it gets hot then locks up. i'm going to return it for a new one. anyone else have this problem?

Well folks, I put the reformatted SD card back in, while I was scrolling through my pictures testing out the card, guess what, the devise froze up, had to reset it, about 4 hours later, while going through the pictures again, it froze up again, reset it. Then, as before, after a long charge, the phone would not wake up, had to reset again, that's 3 times sense I put the SD card back in. To test the card out thoroughly, I watched Transformer part 1 to the end, and no freeze up, so I cannot say if the SD card is bad, I'm getting ready to try a new card now.
The problem may be with the Devise's SD driver. Another thing I noticed is that with the card out, the battery lasted a good 50% longer
This is just my test, but, it seems to me the devise runs better without the SD card installed.
I'll return with an update after the new SD card test run
****Update: Tried the new SD card, the devise froze up while scrolling through the pictures. I don't believe it's the SD cards, seems like a glitch in the SD hardware or the SD driver. My devise works just fine without the SD card installed, who would think that it may be the SD drivers causing the freeze ups. I wonder how long it will take for HTC or WinMo to accept and fix the problem.
Is there a developer on this thread that can come up with a fix, or a better SD driver software?

Same here, the back of my phone would be hot as well, try removing the SD card for a few days, as I did, and see if your phone stops freezing up, mine seems to work great without the card installed, and the battery last longer.
will buy a new one and see
i def think its the card, maybe it gets hot when you charge/ run heavy apps like wifi and when it goes to read the card it miss reads and freezes, cause i install all apps on my card as to not clutter the fone just yet, i will def be buying a new sdcard and probably swapping out cards hahaha and returning old stock one. hahah thus having a sweet better class 16g card for free
I get frequent lockups with Sense, but when I switch to the standard Winmo interface, it never locks up. I don't think it's the memory card as much as HTC's sense.
lock up exiting messaging
I have had the phone since the 14th, I am running the stock T-Mobile USA rom (not flashing another rom until I decide if I'm going to keep the phone) The only time that I have had the phone lock up is when exiting the messaging tab on Sense.
It seems to have started after I updated the myphone application in order to back up text messages.
Well the same day i got my nexus, after taking few pictures, my camera basicly died, started to give errors or restarts the phone, then it was unable to get on at all.
I did factory reset number of times, nothing happened. I thought it's something hardware and forgot about my camera for a while, just to find today that it works again. I took lots of pictures without any problems, shot some video too.
Later in the day when i decided to try it again, it was giving the same error again as day 1 ("The camera application is not responding" and you can force kill it, then if go to the camera again, it says that it couldnt connect to the camera).
So seems like it's something software related since its randomly working, but if factory reset isn't helping, then what it might be that can be fixed softwarely?
I'm rooted now. Still the stock rom.
p.s.
the phone also restarts when i mount the SD card and start copying lots of files and randomly restarts at other occasions too, without any obvious reasons, even when just sitting.
Other than that the phone is great
hopefully its all software that can be fixed though!
Sounds to me like there's something buggy on ya SD card. Id reformat the SD card if ya haven't already and run it empty for a bit to see if the problem persists... I think the most forgotten fix for things if they haven't figured it out is SD card, a lot of issues can come from the SD card, not saying ievery issue is the SD card, but ya be surprised how a card can wack phone out.
Sounds to me like its when your phones accessing the SD card...
yeah makes sense but
i've formatted it many times, and the camera doesnt work even without it (doesnt even start)
btw it's not the original card, but my old one from my HTC HD
the camera is supposed to work and without a SD card inserted right?

I meant keep card in it, just empty without files, formatted and see what happens
i've tried that, doesnt help
Hi,
try formatting SD card with Panasonic SD Formatting Tool,it writes back the partition table and could help. For me worked, I had an issue with gallery, surely related to SD card, and now works well.
Bye
what settings to use to format it?
what fat, cluster size?
i've formated it bunch of times with the windows vista tool, fat32 and the default cluster size (i think) but it didnt help.
And if i recall correctly it was crashing the camera and with SD card out of the phone
yeah just tried again
even with the card out, none of the camera using applications starts, including the camera, barcode scanner and 3d compass
the later 2 dont even take pictures, so they dont need the sd card at all and still they dont work
what else it might be? im getting some other applications crashes from time to time, seems that my phone isnt very stable. And it's stock...huh
I suggest sending it back for repair/replacement. Could very possibly be the result of bad blocks in ram.
You mentioned it isn't the original SD card the phone came with. Why don't you try the original card then, and see if it is the actual card, or the phone that is the problem.

i would have done that long time ago if i had it, this is the only card i have handy at the moment
but it makes the same problem with the card pulled out, so it isn't the card for sure
do u tihnk that there is any chance reflashing the rom would fix it?
any records of factory roms being buggy for just particular devices?
Okay...first off you said it's an older card, you could have bad sectors on your card, some of the older cards only have a read/write cycle of a couple thousand before fail. Second you can't run the camera app without the sd card. Third formatting the card so many times helps you count down those read/write cycles on your card. I'd be pretty confident in saying that your problems would go away after getting a new card. Hope this helped

yup....just tried it, i popped my card out rebooted and started camera app, and i got a force close with no option to wait
that's great man! It means that it could actually be from the stupid card!

Ok guys.
Some of you are lucky and finally upgraded while the rest
is still waiting for that.
As I was extremely annoyed by the MR1 flaw,
I just stopped using X2 until successful upgrade will be out.
I also decided that if SE will not fix basic issues of X2,
I will just give back X2 to SE shop and require my money back.
So now I would love to finally know
if X2 STILL performs memory card issues?
Loosing connection? Card corrupting?
Please answer anybody can,
I will really appreciate this.
I won't accept flawed product,
even if there will be fix for this....

I have not experienced the SDCard getting corrupted issue since I have installed the new R3A release but i read somewhere in this forum that there were some still experiencing the same problem. Loosing connection...never happen. The issue now is the battery, drains fast as reported here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=684651
with mr1, i did not have any card corruption AFTER formatting my card with SD Card formatter found at this site: sdcard(dot)org/consumers/formatter/
formatting my card using normal windows formatter didn't work, i know because my card got corrupted after a while.
but i have not gotten any card corruption at all after formatting with the SD Card formatter. it's been a month already and i did not use the registry fix.
though on occasions memory card tends to disappear on wake, in which i had to remove and reinsert the memory card. data still intact though. but other phones do have that problem as well.
it's just been a few days since upgrade but so far my memory card does not disappear on wake. still, it's early to say...
@doministry
Why did you not update your phone? After i have use the MR2 for a month, I had no problems with the SD-card. It could also be a problem with the original windows-version that caused this problem.
If I would be you, i would upgrade the phone, and don't wait for the any reports about how good or bad the MR2 is.
So , just upgrade the phone, and start using it!

How the fu..ck I can upgrade since the firmware is available
only for few countries?!
It's not out for my region.
So I ask
and research if this is worth my time and effort
or I should just give it back!
I was awfully tired of this.
After the upgrade, i checked the registry key that is about the alimentation of microsd and it was the same of before mr2 (and without SDFix). So SDFix.cab works also for this upgrade.
Memory disconnect
it's now about a week after i updated to R3AA035
and now, i noticed that my memory was disconnected 2days ago i think.
because i installed slick 2 days ago, and now that i restarte the phone isee a "storage card" and "storage card2" in my device, which "storage card" contains the slick in prog files.
really funny
but i'm sure that the battery usage on standby and in work is fixed.
yesterday morning i started to use a full charge and i had a busy day yesterday on most calling and having a BTooth connected for talking.
after all i'm hoping they fix these problems, cause i'm reallyu getting tired.
Lol so SonyEricsson didn't deal with the device!
X2 still has basic problems!
Lol! Memory card disconnection is unnacceptable...
I'm getting close to give it back.
Just install the SDfix.cab and the sd card will no longer be dissconected. The MR2 makes the X2 a new phone, fast, resposive and really nice layouts. This is the phone I was dreaming about Some small bugs are still there, but no one that will stop me from loving my device.
I have a question, i lost a lot of data from my sd card, cus the bug that comes with the MR3 i think, but, my memory is still full, then, there is no way to get it back?
now i will try the sdfix.cab, where can i find it?

some people who had corrupt cards on mr1 got all their stuff back when upgrading to mr2. so might be worth reinstalling mr2 to see if it restores yours. whatever happens install the sdcard fix straight away. its listed on plenty of threads on here.
I got three memory card connection losses already.
But no data corruption...
So ****ing SE did not remove this problem definitely.
I just installed SD Card fix. So now I will see if this works.
Hi! Have you tried to insert the SD-card into the USB adapter that came with your Xperia, and read the card from a PC?
I was able to rescue my files that way...
The card was readable on the PC when it could not be read in the phone.
the folder and files appeared to be an unreader format, i.e no format at all... cant be converted wadsoever...
My Eris has been running very smoothly for several weeks with ELB 2.7 with JIT enabled and most of my apps relocated to the SD card. But a few days ago, I started experiencing crashes when waking up the phone or answering a call, and then last night I started getting FCs anytime I tried to launch an app located on the SD card.
The FAT partition works fine, and the EXT partition appears intact when I mount it, but nothing located there will launch.
I've resolved the issue (sort of) by reinstalling the apps I need on my phone, and switching off App2SD, but now I'm wondering what the next step should be. Does this indicate that my SD is dying, or should I try repartitioning the card -- either to eliminate the EXT partition entirely or to recreate it?
just try reformatting the card...if you start experiencing it again...then your card is most likely dying... sorry...
Even if you got your Eris on the first day it came out, your card shouldn't be close to "dying" yet. Maybe it was defective to begin with. I'd bet willing to be its not the card. I know a2sd is harder on it, but I just doubt it killed it already.
Copy your apps to PC, reformat SD Card, Copy apps back, and see what happens.
Please report back, I'd be interested to see what happened.
Apps2SD isn't recommended by a lot of the devs for a reason. It causes unnecessary wear on the SD card. SD cards have a limited life span of around 100k cycles. When you access a program on the SD card it doesn't just make 1 cycle (read/write), it makes many during the usage of the program. 100k for picture taking and other standard use is quite a bit, but when an app is accessing the SD card constantly while running 100k is reached very quickly.
I'm going to take a guess and say your card is dying for reasons stated above. Try reformatting as recommended, if that doesn't work, replace the card.
The only time this would be a concern is if you moved dalvik-cache to the SD card (as that is constantly updated). When you put an application on the SD card, the data related to the card is stored in /data/data, which is not moved to the SD card (this is why internal storage continues to decrease after you move apps and dalvik-cache to the SD card).
Also, it's 100,000 cycles per block of memory. Most SD cards have wear-leveling technology that helps with this issue, so it will take a while before the card becomes bad (if it is a good quality card).
I would say he has a failing card. It happens once in a while.

I was having a problem with an unusually high battery drain with my LG G3. I also began to notice a few corrupted images.
So I turned my G3 off and removed my microSD card. I inserted it into a USB microSD card adapter & plugged it into my PC.
I ran a check on the card using DiskGenius (free) and saw it had some problems. My solution:
1. Used DiskGenius to fix exFat file system problem (not perfect).
2. Backed up all the files on my microSD card to my PC using EaseUs Todo Backup (free)
3. Formatted the card to exFat again using the SD Card Formatter (free)
4. Restored all my files back to my microSD card.
Now my battery life is amazing again and any app that accesses the microSD card is faster!
Hope this helps some of you.
Thanks for the tip but, honestly, I don't understand how that can justify an improvement in battery life. Could you elaborate a bit more the idea behind it?.

The file system on the microSD card can get corrupted. When that happens and the phone tries to access a corrupted file, it might take multiple file reads (to compare the results of reading the same location) and/or more CPU cycles (performing error correction) to read the file, either of which drain power from the battery.
Corrupted files can also cause certain apps to crash.
Also, depending upon what version Android you have, sometimes when the Android media scanner encounters a corrupted mp3 it will scan the file over and over, draining the battery (this is a common problem).
Note that what I'm suggesting in my OP does not fix the corrupted files, it only fixes the cause (exFat file system corruption). The corrupted files must still be fixed or deleted.
Reformatting your microSD card should be done whenever there is a sudden and unexplained power drain, or once every three years.
Good finding then. Glad if it worked for you. I'll take it into account when it happens to me. Thanks.
I was also having problems with my Kindle app, books taking a long time to open and close. This fixed it fast!
I fixed it in another way. I bought a 7500mah battery ;P

Assuming it is a real 7500mah battery, that fixed the battery drain symptom, but not the file corruption or device slowdown.
That is actually a great thing to remember if having SD card issues, much appreciated.
However the title seems to be misleading. Even if there was a corrupted file on the SD card, it would not cause a significant impact on battery usage. I guess maybe if a poorly coded app (ie: with no error catching) continuously tries to access a corrupted file, maybe. But even then... I just don't see it. Also, quality and fast SD cards are so cheap now, I think a more practical solution would just be to replace the card.
A corrupted SD card can cause significant battery drain for the reasons I already explained. Besides myself, others have already experienced this problem espcially if an mp3 file is corrupted.
I replaced my SD card with a bigger one, but some people can't always afford that.
