Is there an app or mod that can remove the Icon names from the home-screen and app-drawer and just have the icons?
I.e ''ICON''

I have seen that certain launchers can do it, but I cannot stand using those.
Thanks but would prefer other methods if possible

I use Desktop VisualizeR, which can change apps icons and hide labels, and resize the icons, plus some more, and works with the stock launcher

Yes I am happy with Touchwizz, I am rooted using the Omega rom and have customised alot, but i need to remove the app names from the homescreen and app drawer to give it a cleaner look
Surely one of the great Developers have come up with a mod other-than those launchers?
my replay is not a launcher, just an app to install on your Touchwizz launcher
Iam using it with the stock = original = tw launcher

When I was trying to change the Label, first i tried to just clear the name and create the shortcut but I realised you have to add a space to get it too work if you know what i mean...
Yea app works great, shame it only works for the desktop and not for the app-draw too

Given that you were asking several months ago, this may not be of interest to you anymore. But a few lost souls may actually use the search engine in your footsteps.. i see this question asked three or four times a year.
So here are the various options available to someone who wants to get rid of the home screen icon labels. You can use, as you discovered, a shortcut or folder app such as Desktop visualizer to replicate home screen icons without labels. This app won't create an icon without a label, but if you type a blank space you create the visual effect of no label.
You could do as most do.. which is install a custom launcher. Nova is one popular choice. One recent custom launcher is very, very close to stock, but with added features - a sort of super-Touchwiz here.
Or you can look for customized stock launchers. This would be exactly what you originally asked for.. a stock TW launcher that has just had one or two tweaks made to it. It's usually dock icons that most frequently have their labels removed. But you will sometimes see home screen labels and (rarely) app drawer labels removed as well. Other common mods include enabling wallpaper scrolling and using a different number of icons on a row. I've seen a dozen or more people offer modified stock launchers for various devices i.e. TW versions.
Or you could decompile the stock launcher and make the change yourself. It's not that hard and there are tutorials for Jelly Bean at least. And probably for Kitkat too if you search a while. For anyone unwilling to try modding their own launcher.. well then you can't really claim that you "need" the change that badly, can you?
TW icon labels are removed by making the "text box" too small to hold the label. The net effect being that no label is displayed. This is one of the tutorials on making the change on a JB TW launcher. A secondary guide on using a decompiler like apktool can be found here.

Hide icon names in home screen
Open TouchWiz30Launcher\res\values-mdpi\styles.xml
Code:
Find <item name="android:layout_marginBottom">4.0dip</item> (the value may be diffrent, so simply look for layout_marginBottom)
This value depends on the cellHeight from the previous patch. it equals cellHeight - 57
if you have a 4 line homescreen, then set it to 43
if you're making a 5 line homescreen, then set it to 23

Many of the element names changed with Kitkat, but the general procedure will be the same. At a guess, after you decompile the launcher e.g. Touchwizhome.apk or SecLauncher.apk, etc., look for the string name i.e. android:layout_margin_bottom in Touchwizhome.apk > /res/values/styles.xml. And it should reference the actual variable(s) that you need to modify in the /res/values/dimens.xml file.
I hope that helps someone out.

you can do it by yourself...
first of all do a nandroid backup... just for security
install adw.launcher and launcherpro.
Select adw.launcher as home default (you can use home switcher to set it)
go to http://circle.glx.nl/ , chose the things as you want and at the Status bar notification page select "Personalize notification status bar (for HTC Desire roms only)"
select "Statusbar (text color will not be changed)" and on background put the second option putting 000000 (black) as color and chosing the transparency as your wish... I suggest to not put full transparency, cause if you open a white app (like the market) you will not see the notification... put AT LEAST 75% transparency.
example below:
choose bootanimation and use the CM6.1.0-RC framework-res.apk on the list (or load yours)
download file and flash it.
change default home with home switcher and set it to launcherpro
for make sure that all is ok, reboot your device...
i'll wait forward for your feedback
p.s.: please note this trick will work only with live wallpapers... in my screenshot i'm using Ionic Live Wallpaper...

Hi,
I'm on DF 6.0j now and I have tried the exact methods mentioned above from UOT but could not get it to work neither on LP nor ADW. I've tried both DF6j and CM 6.1.0 RC2 framework. Appreciate your advice.
Have installed adw ex on my Transformer, I love it, except the top row, with the adw icon, adw unlock etc.
Is it possible to remove it, and if so how?

Wtf? Why is there a persistent logo on a launcher?
Jeez ander....
Tried LLP and it works better, but I can't remove the dock on LP. And can't
use swipe up to open appdrawer.
Guess I'll have to write to ADW and ask for a option to remove it.
I have been writingsoftware for ages and that is why I stay away from UX. Cannot please everyone (including me LOL)

This kinda stopped me from using ADW too...it would be nice if 'lock desktop' could be replaced with 'Apps' or any option we like.
I did email the dev about this a while ago when the Transformer came out but the reply sounded like it won't be updated.
Is there another launcher that removes the top row, enable swipe up/down and without or capable to hide the dock?

Try GO Launcher, it has swipe up/down also.
Only thing is it's not in the Market but you can side load it plus it's jsut not as good as ADW EX but that's just my opinion.
On the plus side it has gestures and you can resize widgets like the default launcher
Somebody on the post your home screen page had removed the logo, I wish there was adw that integrated the stock features like holographic, and Google search

Only if we could have ADW + Stock top (with the My Apps and + button)
that would be PERFECT.
From what I've read on the adw thread in the theme forum, the developer is working on being able to get rid of that top adw button and quite possibly even getting rid of that whole upper section too.
I tried Launcher pro and even optimized it but it still didn't feel as smooth and responsive as adw. I honestly think adw is perfect except for that top icon section.

Hello guys.i am showing how u can set tabletUI setup on p500.although it has small screen but I m loving it.
u can mod those statusbar button on any cm7 rom with this tutorial.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1717332
Its very simple to understand.
If u don't want to mod them yourself than u can use new nightlyfoure or honeywizz Tom because they have those buttons embedded.
Best thing about this mod is that its on cm7 rom which is completely bugfree and stable
I was looking for this kind of thing from long time and atlast I found it and I think this is first tutorial for tabletUi on cm7 base rom in whole forum which works on mdpi devices too.
First of all u must set your LCD density to 140 because its the most suitable resolution for tabletUI.
Here are shots

2.Widgetlocker
3.Eyefold and sense adw theme
4.Vikasb32 green ics theme
5.Es file explorer
6.Uber music player
7.Opera browser
8.Quicpic
9.Multipicture live wallpaper
I tried all the launchers to mod for tabletUI but ads launcherEX is best with tonnes of customization features
How to make it work------
1.set LCD density to 140
2.I used 7 columns and 5 rows in homescreen of adw launcherEX.
3.Also stetted page horizontal margin to 10 in app drawer
4.remove dockbar from launcher
5.check fullscreen option in app drawer
6.in launcher appdrawer setting select 3 rows and 6 columns
7.using bookshelf transition animation
8.locked launcher in landscape mode
9.must try different animation of multipicture live wallpaper.they are just awesum
10.use widgetlocker to have honeycomb clock and lock on lockscreen and force lockscreen to landscape mod
11.change the background of es file explorer to white and folder colour as yellow n its setting.
12.change the background of quicpic as light in its preferences.
13.Check fullscreen option in opera if u feel that you are not able to browse properly
14.rest u can see and make out from above shots
15..if u want same wallpaper as In my homescreen, download from below post
Really I have to say that I have faced no issues with small screen.it works like a charm for me.

Hello
Although the "good looking interface" idea is a very personal thing, my idea is to share
days and days of my research on the internet in this thread.
Let's start.
First of all I would like to specify that the Custom Rom that I have installed is the CyanogenMod 11.
First step: more space on the screen.
As soon as I did flash the rom I said, "It's all huge!", indeed, do you think about how much space you could get on the screen if things were a bit 'smaller?
Take a look:

"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
It's much better for me, isn't it!?
And those huge tabs in google now?! No problem! Look here:
And this is just the beginning ..
And if you wanted an application with a higher resolution? Or less? Only one application or two... It can be done.
Now, you love Android too much, but you see your friend's iPhone and also would you like notifications on your lock screen?
Oh, Android is fully customizable! But you don't know how to?
You are in the right place! See this:
So ... The idea of this post is to combine all of our ideas and what you already know to create our "perfect interface", you may ask, give information, etc.
In the second post you can find the tutorials. Hit thanks if you liked.
Sorry for my english ahah
YOU MUST HAVE A CUSTOM ROM OR, AT LEAST, A ROOTED PHONE.
First Step: More space on the screen
To change the resolution of your screen you must edit the /system/build.prop file.
The simple way to set DPI is to download an app that does it for you.
Near "New DPI" you can set your favourite value, the minimum is 120 i think... Your current value is 240, try different values.
1) Set DPI.
2) Apply.
3) Reboot to see the changes. (Complete Reboot, no soft reboot)
My personal value is 190, but for facebook and other apps I use higher DPI...
Now, with Xposed Framework and a module you can set your favourites DPI app by app.
You want an app with more things on the screen or smaller fonts, items etc? You can.
Another appears too small for you? You can choose wich DPI set for that app.
(You can learn about Xposed and about how to install and activate it here in the Xposed original thread.
After you have installed Framework and rebooted your device you can install modules.
- Open Xposed app, go to Download and search App Settings module, install it.
- Now go to Modules and activate the module.
- Reboot your device to make the module working.
- Now you can open App Settings module and set your favourites DPI for each app.
How to set DPI:
- Open App Settings
- Choose the app.
- Make it ON for that app (trigger on the top).
- Near DPI set your value.
- Save. (On the Top-Right)
=======================================
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
=======================================
Second Step: Notifications on lockscreen
I think that a person that turn on the screen wants, first see his notifications.
On android you have to pull down the notification bar to see the description.
It's a personal thing... But I don't like that. I want to see my notifications when I turn o the screen.
Fortunately there is an app that can do that.
The app is called NILS Notifications.
It's simple, install the app, set your parameters and add the widget on your lockscreen instead of clock widget.
If you want to know if exists a thing you can request here. For example you want to know if your smartphone can make coffee? Ask here

For me, the "best" UI is the one where I can view all important things like weather or next few calendar entries instantly, and where I can access all my apps quickly.
And if possible have a look at my background photo between these widgets.
That's why I always use only 1 screen where I put my widgets and at the bottom some application groups (supported by Nova).

Mastering Huawei Home LauncherHauwei Home has more features than your average stock launcher. I'm going to show you some of the best ways to customize and get the most out of this launcher.
Wallpaper
There are a few additional settings you can mess with when picking your wallpaper. Press and hold your homescreen and choose wallpaper. Here you'll be able to adjust the blurriness of your wallpaper as well as choose weather or not it's scrollable.
Enable "Shake to Change Wallpaper" in your display settings.

App Drawer
Be default, EMUI doesn't have an app drawer. All of the apps are stored on pages of your homesceen. There is an easy way to fix this. You can fit up to five icons in your quick launch menu. We will use the center icon as our app drawer shortcut. Download App Drawer from the Play store and drag the shortcut to the center slot.
Themes
For themes, you have four stock options to choose from. Themes can also be imported from the Play store or other external sources. Check out Stockify to change your icons to the stock Android look.
Transitions
Change the animations when scrolling through your homescreen pages by pressing the homescreen and choosing "Transitions". There are eight different animations to choose from.
Home Layout
Change your app grid by adjusting your home layout. Press and hold on your homescreen and choose "more options". You can choose between 4x5 5x4 or 5x5.
That app drawer app is great, but I prefer a 3rd party launcher if possible

I used to have a stock Android phone (Nexus 4) and now I have an Honor 7 with EMUI. I was thinking about "stockifying" my Honor but I gave a chance to the EMUI and the truth is that I really start to like.
The app drawer in particular makes me more consciente of the apps I have so I keep my phone clean and without "one-time used apps" that just get my memory full.
But I understand why people can dislike it. But that's the good thing in Android, if you don't like it, you can change it (at least most of the things....)

everything is better than stock launcher
Saw a video of EMUI 5 on Huawei P9. Looking good. Hoping to get that soon for our devices for a good feel.
I wish EMUI 5 final version will better from what we saw on the beta
I'm a long time Nova launcher user now on Smart Launcher 3. I have the pro version but it seems quite good so far.
Nova is the best for customization, but since I'm a stock android fanatic, I have pixel launcher
If I use Nova on this phone, will Nova give me an app drawer, or do I need another app drawer app as well ?
You'll get app drawer with Nova.
