[Q] What is the best rom/kernel for the nexus 4. - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I will be getting a nexus 4 soon and I need a little advice on what rom/kernel combination is best. Battery really isn't an issue, focused on speed mainly. I like to game on Mobile alot and that is the reason why I would like help finding the perfect rom/kernel for this device. Just hoping for something to overclock cpu/gpu for best performance possible. All help will be thanked.

I really am looking forward to the nexus 5 experience rom but I've already heard it isn't that fast. Unless I heard wrong. If this rom will give good performance I definitely will get it.

Welcome to the Nexus 4 forum
There is no such thing as "best", here are some threads that ask the same thing:
Best overclock kernel??
[Q]AOSP Roms ... What is the best?
Both of them are two days old.

Thanks,
These questions are always subjective and the only one that knows what is "best" is you. Try a handful out and make your own decision.

there is no such thing as a best rom. i suggest you try out a bunch, find one that suits your needs and that your device likes. what is the best rom threads arent allowed on xda, and this thread will probably get closed soon. there are many threads started with the same question every day, you should search for them.
What I probably should have said is what Roman would you prefer for someone that is new to Nexus devices.

again, try out a few. find one that fills your needs. personally, i prefer to not see whats the best rom threads. im not trying to be an a$$, its just that these threads arent allowed on xda, they cause people to argue about best roms, when best is subjective to the user.

Tips for 32gb WiFi.

I have a 32gb WiFi nexus 7, I have been looking threw the different Roms. What's the best ROM for performance( gaming) and good features. What's a good kernel to use also?

Threads such as this get locked as soon as the mods get wind of them because there is no such thing as a best rom or kernel. It's like asking someone "what kind of food should be my favorite." No one but yourself can answer that question for you.
Want to know which will be best for you? Head on over to the device forums, read up on some of the offerings, and then take those that pique your interest for a test drive.

Well, you beat me to it.. Thanks!

Which ROM should I choose?

I've recently bought my Nexus 7 32GB Wifi, and I'm kinda flashaholic... And since I'm new to this device, I don't really know which ROMs are the best... As I've seen, most of the ROM OPs do not post ROM-bugs, which I find pretty frustrating, so I'll give you guys a list over things I'm looking for (I think you know more great ROMs than me, since I've just had my Nexus for 4 days!).
I like the stock ROM very much because of its stability, but I miss some customizations!
Okay, here's the list over what I'm looking for:
-A very stable and bugless (almost) ROM!
-A well-featured ROM with many customizations...
-A fast and powerfull ROM which don't shorten my tablets lifetime! (I'm thinking of no under/overvoltage, etc...
-And ofc... Android 4.2.1+
-The ability to place any widget on the lockscreen!
-Good battery-life!
Don't hate me if I want too much...
Thanks!

Which food should you like? What color should be your favorite? Like the subject matter of your post, no one can, or should, answer these questions but you. Test drive some and see what YOU like best... see what performs best on your unique hardware.
Oh, and IBTL.

I totally agree to the above opinion. To select your ROM, the following thread may help you.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=36018963
If this is your 1st time to flash a custom ROM, i recommend CyanogenMod or AOKP. If you're looking for ROMs for tablet UI, please try ParanoidAndroid or SGT7.
Anyway ,try many ROMs to find out your favorite. enjoy
Seriously? If you scroll down just a little, you will see 1000 people who asked the same question. Read those. People starting new threads to ask this exact question twice every day insane, and has to be bad for server space. The devs take alot of time to write out exactly what their rom offers, bugs, pros and cons so you can be educated. To not read them and take the lazy route and srart a new thread is disrespectful to their efforts. Sorry, but after seeing this same thing so many times, it gets rediculous.

I was actually asking for your opinion, not hate because I'm curious! And I've never seem to find a good ROM with looking in other threads made by people with other needs!
And, no! This is not the first time I've flashed a ROM!

The issue is that thread such this are tiredly pointless. No one but you can answer your question. The only rom that you should choose is the one that you try for yourself and; ends up being what you like. No one is clairvoyant enough to predict what will give you the feature set you'll be happiest with or how a given rom will perform on your unique hardware.
The mods invariably lock these threads a soon as they catch wind of them for this very reason. I imagine the only reason it survived as long as it has is only because it hasn't popped up on their radar yet.
Rather than wasting your time and energy asking what you should choose, go to the Dev forum, read up on some of the offerings available, and then test drive the ones that pique your interest until you find the one that satisfies you.
No hate- just sound, practical advice.

[Q] ABSOLUTE best kernel for battery life while staying moderately smooth?

I've been wondering, what is the absolute most recommended KitKat compatible kernel for battery life, while staying mostly smooth? I personally don't mind a hiccup every now and then, but I just want the best battery life possible. I've been using Faux's 029 kernel and I was impressed, but I felt I shouldn't just settle there if there are better alternatives.
Cheers for any help possible, and my sincerest apology if this is a regularly asked question, but I haven't found an answer.

Okay, massive apology, I don't tend to read that sort of stuff.
I have to admit, I don't read sticky posts most of the time either.
Just try a few kernels and see what you like.

Newb or just a mistake? A lot of the "usage patterns" crap is actually just stuff they make up to avoid spam. Basic stuff like CPU usage and background stuff works on all usage patterns.

All newb! Just about any experienced xda member and smartphone user knows battery life is USER subjective and every device reacts differently to each kernel/rom . So I know you are like 15 but just try and remember important facts like these and that you just posted the number one no no thread hands down besides a eta thread.
PS.. the power of android and custom kernel/Roms is that YOU can flash different combos and then decide what works best for YOU.

Apologies, but assuming most people would want to use the device normally, with the screen on, things like CPU usage aren't entirely pattern based. True, wakelocks and background tasks raise the usage, but the rate at which the clock speed maxes and the rate at which it scales down doesn't usually work based on the way the device is used.

No they work depending on the kernel and how its designed to scale, once again this is kernel dependent, so posting this in the appropriate kernel thread you are using is much wiser.

I posted this in the general section because I thought this section would be more visited. Also, the whole point if the thread is that I'm looking for a good kernel, so of course that stuff is kernel based. I may only be in my teens, and yes I derp A LOT, but I usually know what stuff means.
Go to the Dev sections and find good kernels, its not difficult, read first, use second, post third....

You have more than enough time if you are only 15 there is a lot of life left to live... But really thats not a very good excuse my friend if you have time to make up threads you got time to test. Let me help you download before you go to bed and flash then test the whole day at school.

Guys, can anyone tell me where this thread is heading to? Definitely not to respect...

Also @OP, please note that such "best kernel/ROM/..." threads are not allowed on xda

Most notable ROMs for Note 3

Could anyone tell me what they think the best ROMs are for this phone?
I'm getting one next week and my partner just got one, and she wants to learn about Android and how to customise and I want to know what the notable ROMs are.
I'm aware I'm opening myself up to "Use the search function" and "n00b" type replies here, but yeah.
Thanks in advance guys!

Oh sorry should also clarify; not looking for vanilla ROMs, or MIUI or anything like that. Wanted one based on TouchWiz.
TIA

Mod Edit
"Best" or "Recommend" ROM / Kernel threads are not allowed on XDA.
Please test these things for yourself. That is the only way you will get an unbiased opinion,
and then, you can decide for yourself if it meets YOUR needs.
