Cerberus celebrates 3rd birthday with free licenses for the next 30 hours
Despite a little security snafu a few weeks back, we still think Cerberus is one of the better security applications on the Google Play Store. To celebrate their 3rd birthday — and their new 2.5 update — Cerberus is giving free licenses to users who install their app over the next 30 hours.
Simply sign up for a new account, and you’ll receive an email notifying that the license for your account has been activated for free, for life. For those unaware, Cerberus offers a little more functionality than Android Device Manager alone. Here’s the feature list:
Remote control through the website www.cerberusapp.com
Remote control via text messages
SIM Checker (for devices that have a SIM card): you will automatically receive alerts if someone uses your phone with an unauthorized SIM card
Remote control allows you to perform many operations on your device, like:
Locate and track it
Start a loud alarm, even if the device is set to silent mode
Wipe the internal memory and the SD card
Hide Cerberus from the app drawer
Lock the device with a code
Record audio from the microphone
Get a list of last calls sent and received
Get information about network and operator the device is connected to
And much more!

played around with it. location wise quite accurate, can snap a pic and i even send threatening messages to myself. but overall i think its quite a good security app even though i wont be seeing my phone if it ever gets stolen but then at least i can post the perpetrator's face all over reddit .

Phone tracking software

I'm looking for the best phone tracking software in case it gets stolen. I have been on www.freewarepocketpc.net and there are loads. Someone else posted that they use WIMP (www.freewarepocketpc.net) which is $15 after the trial. WIMP sounds pretty good, but there are so many free versions out there. I was wondering if anyone can recommend a good free one, as I haven't got time right now to install all 30-odd and try them all.
Thanks!
I think RemoteTracker is quite good.

Thanks for the tip. Have installed (painless). Will test when the wife gets home!
I tried WIMP after reading this page.
it is absolutely gorgeous.
Took my phone and kept it next to the window.
Tried to sms the wimp code to my phone.
WIMP catches the sms without making it noticable and sends you an sms back with the exact GPS location of your phone and a link for Google Maps.
And even better, it will send a sms to the phonenumber you entered in the settings with the new phonenumber of the new simcard in the phone that has been "stolen".
Which means that you'll still be able to send an sms to the phone even if it doesnt has your SIMcard in it.
I choose WIMP.
I've used Ultimate Theft Alert v3.5 with success.
A killer software to Secure your Expensive Pocket PC Devices!
Ultimate Theft Alert is the best security application ever designed for Windows Mobile based Pocket PC devices.
Every mobile phone has a unique identification number called IMEI and likewise, every SIM has IMSI. Using this unique number, the software could distinguish the owner and thief.
Once your Pocket PC is stolen, obviously first thing the thief does is remove your SIM card and insert his own. Ultimate Theft Alert will identify this and send alert messages to all your alternate numbers directly from the thief’ SIM card. (You’re actually getting the thief’ mobile number!)
In addition to the thief’ number, the software will also forward you all his incoming SMS and incoming caller numbers. Knowing this, you can easily track down your stolen Pocket PC.
The possibilities don’t stop here. You can remotely control your Pocket PC when Ultimate Theft Alert is installed. Remote functions such as locking, unlocking of device, erasure of personal data and files can be done easily by sending a secret SMS command to your stolen Pocket PC.
When your Pocket PC has a GPS chipset built-in, Ultimate Theft Alert can pin-point the location of the device too!
To the best of all, the thief is completely unaware of all your tracking works. The secret SMS commands are all hidden from regular inbox and there will be no trace of SMS sent from your device too!
There's a significant section on XDA here when they were offering it for free, but I think the offer has expired

I use UTA also. And apart from the error message you get everytime you reset the phone (and yes I know you can disable the alert)...it's the best I've tried
I use WIMP also. its easy to use
I use smartphonetracker (google is your friend) now which is fairly painless and free.
The Everstealth software allows you to view a complete list of all the incoming and outgoing calls made on a particular mobile phone. An Employer would find it useful in determining if a phone was being used to make personal calls at the company expense.

Anti cheft, that uses GPS?

Hey guys, is there any anti theft software, which would send original owner some information, like GPS coordinates or anything like that?
Nvm, found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=594608
W.I.M.P.
There is a program I use called "WIMP" "where is my phone" and it will text a person who you pick to receive txt messages when someone switches SIM cards. You can also track it on "Google Maps"...Tj

Thank you!
remotetracker.
its free and has more features than any of the commercial ones.
lock the phone, wipe the sd card, run mort scripts, have the phone txt you all your contacts, it can survive a hard reset so long as the sd card is still in, it txts you the new number if the sim changes, it can take position by cell or gps, record a 5 minute gps track log, open a vpn to the phone and control it remotely, and it can respond by txt, email and ftp.
brilliant piece of software.
Look for CrimsonLock which has now been updated to support HD2
Ultimate Theft Alert is best solution for me.

[FREE][APP] mSaver- Guardian app

Hey Friends..
We have made a guardian app called mSaver.
Description:-
mSaver is a guardian application. It tracks your current location and pass the information to your friends instantly as a text message, when you tap a single button. The application plays a vital role when an individual is in any dangerous situation and wish to pass the information about his current location to his friends or relatives without giving any indication to the persons nearby. It also have an option for sending periodic alerts, which updates your friends or relatives with your changing location(if you are moving) information in a periodic manner. When periodic alert is turned on,the application will run in background and sends messages to your friends even if the application is closed by the user. It also provides an option to update the location when you are safe.
The application lets you to configure social medias like Facebook and Twitter and so that you can update your current location information and hence ask for help from your friends there.
The application is built with simple UIs so that it can easily be operated in seconds when you are in danger. All the messages and durations are customizable.
Note:This application is strictly rely on the network availability of your device.
Please give your valuable feedback. Its really important for us.
You should have posted it at http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games . But that's ok maybe a moderator will move it there. Your app looks pretty cool. You should post a link to google play or something. One thing though, when travelling I never have a good connection. The google maps api lets you reverse GPS location into a city/country name. You usually have to wait a bit for that information to load after the GPS signal has been acquired for that info to not return null. So like while on wifi on a pit stop is a good time to report "made it to country/city" to recipients.

Those kind of apps are absolutely useless. All your thief has to do is drop into recovery, factory reset, format system partition, flash something and it's bye bye for your phone.
If you are not rooted, then take out your SIM card, root it without activating WiFi/GPS and do the abovementioned procedure.
Either way, it's goodbye Vienna.

Google,Apple has to maintain imei db.

google_imei.txt
IMEI blocking is not a providers issue.
provider just needs to support one USSD.
Anti theft should be by design Google, apple, and other feature phone OS manufacturers requirement
Google,Apple has to maintain imei db.
This is to prevent theft of mobiles in the world.
Today there is a incresing mobile theft and this has to be stopped.
programming a kill switch may be more complicated.
for example, approximately more than 100 million mobile lost so far.
This is a big number and we need to fix this by design.
Today it is possible to end the theft of mobile and let us do it now.
What google has to do.
1.create a db to store imei, status - indiating valid or stolen.
size of the record is 21 to 25 characters per phone
secure db with multiple copies in the world.
2.create one android app
this app can run on any anroid phone starting from oldest version say 2.3 for ex.
3.This app should be at the root level - many virus are able to do it
and so google should be able to create a root level app
Google should be able to put this code at the root level
at the level of the ROM bios or at boot strap level.
4.Install the app.
Installing the app will store the imei in the google imei db
WITH USER CONFIRMATION.
This app is a hidden app and cannot be uninstalled.
5.Every time the phone boots, the app has to run first.
it has to check the imei db with ussd or with data or with wifi etc
6.if the phone is declared stolen in imei db,
The phone should halt indicating it is a stolen phone.
Why Google, apple has to maintain this db?
They wrote the OS. OS gives life to the hardware,
so OS companies should maintain imei db
No need of kill switch.
Dynamic verification in every boot
What providers need to do.
Providers should stop spending money for imei db.
They should support the ussd call number free of cost.
This should run at layer 2 and work on gprs level.
This should work even without turn on data or wifi.
IF the user turn on wifi or data,
this new app should run and check the db.
IF the phone is stolen, halt the phone.
This solution is simpler than kill switch.
KINDLY IMPLEMENT.
This is simpler than kill switch
