How would I be able to trick the market into thinking I am based in the us? There are a few apps like Google books and even nook is not available for my country. With the phone I can slip in a t mobile similar and problem solved.
I have tried using market enabler but that is a no go.
For me my account is American, was created in the US and is backed by an American card. I don't "miss" any software that users outside the US do. Unfortunately, I live in Mexico. So while I have full access to the US market, it shows me prices in pesos, which pisses me off to no end. Not a huge problem, but annoying.
So to note: My A500 was bought in the US, my market account was made inside the US, with all US information, here in Mexico it works just like when I'm in the US only the prices are in pesos. Dunno how hard it would be to setup an account from outside to US to look like it was inside. Use a VPN while you set it up I suppose, look up some random business address and phone number if it asks for such. As far as buying a tablet in the US, well that'd be harder.

Thanks for replying. So basically I will need to reset from a fresh tablet using a bocom?
Seems like google does not give much love fire non us fans.will try to look for a vpn to find out.
Here's what I did:
Kill the market
Clear the cache
Remove my gmail account
Turn off all the location settings
Turn on airplane mode
Turn on wifi
Run market enabler
Restart market
re-enter my gmail account
Now the market shows me the books tab, and apps allow in-app purchases. None of these were possible before. Hope this helps.

Here's how I always do mine:
a. Root your device and install Market Enabler
b. Remove all synced accounts in your Tablet
c. Go to Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications -> All -> Market and Clear the data of the Market App
d. Run Market Enabler and choose T-Mobile or Verizon
e. Open the Market App and it should prompt you to login a registered Google Account
h. Once logged in, Market should recognize your A500 as a T-Mobile/Verizon A500
Note that you need to do this every time you reboot your tablet. Additionally, the trick also works for the browser version of the Market (it should list your device as T-Mobile/Verizon registered).
Thanks Will try that, because when i tried it with just the vpn, it did not work. Quick question, have either of you upgraded to the leaked 3.1? because that seems to be "china/taiwan" rom.
I got this working on 3.0.1 and the leaked 3.1 China ROM.
I'm on Picasso custom rom right now but haven't tried it yet as I just changed ROM a few hours ago.
You also mentioned using VPN - no need for that.
Thanks. Got it working, but still cannot see nook, google books, earth and some others.could you see if you can see google books on yours?
The Books link shows up in my Market but does not contain any books on sale.
As for Google Earth, I was able to see and download it before (and Blogger app too). Same thing for other paid games like Dungeon Defenders and Pinball HD that did not show up in my region before. Not sure about Nook as I never looked for it but it should be there.
You can check the browser Market App to see if your Acer A500 is registered to Verizon/T-Mobile. It it's not, it's possible that the hack was not properly executed (items for sale in $ but you are not able to see region-locked apps).
Did you also turn off the location settings (no need to go on airplane mode) as advised by ill_dawg?
I can see the books tab, but not the books app. I am going to try to reboot, clear cache and start from there, turning off all location services and try.
Ok rebooted into recovery cleared cache and also dalvic cache for good measure. Start up, take away all sync apps, clear data on market app. launch market app and can see the google books tab, but still not the app. On the desktop browser, i can see the app, but cannot actually download to device, because it is still not verizon or tmobile. Have you actually got a 3G tablet? Thanks for help Panda, much appreciated.
Omg just Google for Market access.apk; if the device is rooted, u won't experience any problem setting a default location and backing data up.
Hi,
Just an update, I was able to dl Google Books from the Market.
Unfortunately, this method does not seem to work with the Books Market only the Apps Market. Sorry!

Thanks panda. I am still not seeing books on the market. Must be doing something wrong. Market access is just another market enabler, which already does not work for me. It's alright tho, sideloaded the app anyway.
I had seen books on my market...which ussually doesn't appear ....by installin market enabler on my phone and settin it to at&t.....or sprint(for codes look for market enabler codes) and used wifi tethering for internet access on my a500.....and it worked!.....and as a matter of fact price currency didn't change but books was available....so were the other apps which weren't b4.....so....give it a try(don't forget to clear market data).......and FYI....when I then I used regular wifi....books dissapeared!

ok quick update. Redid the whole procedure and it worked this time. Was able to download the US only apps. My mistake was to just untick the sync accounts. Whereas this time, I REMOVED them as was instructed and it worked. Thanks guys.
Hey that's good to hear!

Well I'll have to try this on my Milestone although I'd prefer Wifi over 3G due to data costs!
Hey vari9, just tested your method and it worked with books! I learned something new today! Thanks!

i read in the moto section some time ago, it was enough to replace the build.prop with Verizon build.prop of xoom, but it didnt work.
so i used a VPN carrier (overplay.net) and instantly i got books and videos access so its for sure testing your origin by ip address.
and it worked with a A500 (PRIMEE!/asus) profile too.. as i tested videos (i just looked at its trailers)
but for me VPN is the only way it works, and if i disconnect vpn, i loose my web videos. i did not check if the books access also got lost as well, but the books remained on my bookshelf.

So, I live outside the US, however I set up my Nexus 7 on a VPN, it runs off the US play store, I got my 25usd in credit, I could rent movies and everything was great!
Just yesterday day I took my Nexus 7 out with me and connected it to an non VPN network. The Books, Magazines and movies all vanished.. Ok. Now that Im back home and on the VPN, the store is US again. However the apps have not come back. In the play store it says they are installed, but there is no open button, and they are nowhere to be found on the phone itself.
Is there a way to get them back? It seems odd that this could happen, if I lived in the US and took my Nexus 7 outside of it would this happen too?
Try going to Settings/Apps/All/Google Play Store and tap on "Clear data."
having the same issus over here cant do anything
I'm planning to buy N7 in september when i'm traveling to NYC. So if i buy something with "free 25$" in play store, do they just disappear when i'm coming back to home(Finland)? Actually, am i even gettin the "free 25$"? Or is it only for US residents?
Sorry for possible bad english...
If you use Titanium Backup, you can unfrost those apps. Root is required for TB.
well i rooted my nexus 7 got the TB defrosted the app they appear on my N7 but now even on VPN turned on the google movie play still says not available to my counrty really frustrating but nothing i can do ):

I just entered my regular (Irish) visa info and gave a New York zip code, I was kinda surprised when it worked.
I've been searching for a way to get Google Wallet working on my 7 here in Australia and eventually came across a couple articles that did the trick for me, so I thought I'd share.
Firstly, you need to be rooted and you'll want the patched Wallet.apk from here, which was linked from this XDA thread. Then I used these instructions but with a slight modification. This is the procedure:
Take a backup of Wallet.apk, just in case. Use your favourite file manipukation app, such as Root Explorer, to copy Wallet.apk from /system/app to somewhere safe - /sdcard, for example.
Go into Settings --> Apps, find Wallet, clear cache, clear data and force stop. I like to be sure
Open up Titanium Backup, browse for Wallet, clear data, then uninstall.
Push the patched Wallet.apk you downloaded into /system/app. DO NOT try to install it, as it will fail.
Set permissions on this file to rw-r--r--
Reboot
Go back to Titanium Backup and defrost Wallet.
Open Wallet, register, claim $10, win.
Before anybody comments about unnecessary steps, I'm sure some of them are but this is what I did and it worked for me. I'm not sure if it is necessary but I already had a card registered in my Wallet account with a US address. That is a regular Aussie Visa card where I just set the address to be some random address in The Bronx (I also have a Google Voice number for the same area). I had done this to purchase a magazine from the Play store (over VPN).
Once you are set up, you will need to add a payment card - I added a Google Payment Card - then you will get a confirmation email and will have a Nexus 7 screen looking like the attached, with $10 courtesy of Google.
While researching this, I found several examples of people in Australia successfully using Nexus phones to pay for goods where Pay Pass / Pay Wave is used but I haven't tried it myself yet. Come on, it's 10pm Saturday night!
Can you use this at a merchant when your tablet is not connected to the internet?

Think about it: You're credit card doesn't have 3G
I don't know all the technical details of how it works but I presume it is the same as a credit card process - i.e. the merchant's credit card machine verifies the card, then checks in with the bank. The analogy here would be the merchant's machine verifies the account by interrogating the NFC chip, the talks to Google to confirm payment is good.
did u get the 25$ credit as well?
You get $10
Does this work in the UK? I assume by Lennyuk's response that it does?
Thanks

In Wallett or just in the Play Store? They are 2 different things.
Google have clarified the no internet issue (I dont have the link on me, I think it was in their blog):
To make a payment, you DO NOT need an internet connection
To change between cards on the device, you DO need an internet connection.
To top up, you DO need an internet connection (I would imagine for accurate balance, you would as well)
So, you can use a Nexus 7 to pay without any issues and no internet connection

I tried Google Wallet with $10 credit paying to buy a cup of coffee here in Taiwan, but failed.
It does react in both ends when the NFC touched, but on the cashier side, it said "read card error"...
I will try next time with the credit card added to Google Wallet...

Google Wallet - $10
Google Play - $25
Very nice post! I just enabled the modaco modified wallet on my Galaxy Nexus and will test it tomorrow in MacDonald (italy). This has already been reported as working in a local blog @ android.hdblog.it
Thanx
(At the moment it's impossible to topup the Google Virtual Card from Italy)
I have seen people able to use the $10 on wallet in Australia but I don't know of anyone who has been able to apply money onto their own cards on the Wallet.
Has anyone been able to do this successfully yet?
Nice, is it possible to use this method to enable google movies, books, and , because in my country we don't have them enabled, as a matter of fact I can't even upgrade them or open the apps

No, that's a little different. To make Books and Magazines work on your tablet, use Titanium to defrost the apps. To get Music, you need to connect to a US VPN to sign up. Once you've signed up, it doesn't check again

Install Titanium Backup, list apps, tap on Google Play Books, hit Defrost. Repeat for the other apps
You have to do this after each reboot on stock ROM.
Hey,
So today I was playing around with marketenabler, set it to US, and when I went to restore my previous settings, it wouldn't work.
I'm now stuck with a play store in USD and only apps available for viewing.
I'm in the UK, and with a Nexus 7, I'm not sure which code to re-enter as I don't have a carrier, being a tablet.
Does anyone know of a way I can get back to the standard UK Play Store? Thanks.
Never used the application, but you can facttory reset or flash back the rom

Full list of of codes can be found on on wiki (sorry cant post link as a noob!). But google "gsm mobile network codes" and pick one of the UK ones
I'm in France and although my Nexus was bought in UK and I have set it to English (UK) - Google - in their infinite wisdom insist that I buy any films in French.
Is my only solution to use a proxy IP - and if so what is the best way to do this on a Nexus 10.
Google obviously aren't very international in their thinking.
Have you tried going in app settings and clearing the cache and data, and then turning off all location services before opening the play store?

Thanks.
Yes I have. Location services are disabled anyway - so I don't now how they know where I am - but they do!!
It is amazing that on the Google page there is nothing to allow you to choose what language films you want to see.
They know from your IP.
Try using tunnelbear for example

Ta.
Tunnelbear has sorted it out. I'm trying to pay for some extra bandwidth on it but Google keep on bouncing the payment!!
