Not sure if this is in the right place. I apologize if its not and please move it accordingly.
For the S3 there was a running thread where some developer would take every AT&T update, inject root into it and make it available for flashing via custom recovery. I know there is a subset of members here who are fine with TW. And now with the work Nottach put into his xposed module we get all the cool theming without losing TW features. We can also freeze or remove stock stuff as we see fit since all future updates would be flashed this way. This allows that subset of folks to freeze the stock updates and still be on the latest and greatest instead of updating and then rooting again. Its also a great restore option without needing Kies or ODIN once you have the custom recovery installed. If its possible now that we have custom recoveries I would love for someone who is capable to make it happen. Right now it's just the original and MDL update.
Just my request. I belong to that subset.

That ROM is not at all stock. It's been deodexed, zipaligned, etc. etc. Along with a few other mods. The OP is looking for root to be the only modification done to the ROM.

I'm looking for something similar to the OP, but with the ROM being deodexed, zip aligned, init.d support, just not as pre-modified as MDOB is. A happy medium. I'm guessing the ROM Nottach is planning to release will be exactly what I'm looking for, gotta keep my fingers crossed!

ROMs like that usually get posted for devs to use as a base for their custom ROMs. So hopefully we'll see that soon.

Agreed, just gotta get on board with it before the originator of the "stock TW - rooted, deodexed, zip aligned, init.d support" ROM turns it into a circus with all the crazy mods no one initially wanted.... I've seen that happen one too many times and it actually caused me to unsubscribe from the thread! Too much work turns that stock ROM into what YOU actually want on your phone, not many others!
Please note, I'm NOT talking about MDOB, I like that ROM for what it is, but I want to bring it back one step before too many features are stripped off of it so I can choose what to remove myself, as well as allow full integration of Nottach's work and my SystemUI tweaks! Hell, if I knew what I was doing with some of this stuff, I'd try and make one myself, I just don't have the skill, time, or patience to maintain a thread on it though, unfortunately

+1 on this
Every other device I've had I have been able to get just a deodexed rom with root only. I guess we will have to learn or wait some more.
I guess I agree with you guys on a few of the other things I would do any way (de-odes, etc) and having the ability to remove what I want. I hope someone takes heed. Root injected ROM please (deodexed, zipaligned, etc ok) but then leave it to me to do whatever else. Anyone taking up the task?

No thread for the ROM just yet, but here's his quote from the Xposed Mod thread:
Nottach said:
I'm working on cleaning up the app and a new battery icon implementation that should cover any ROM or SysUi.
The next release, hopefully tomorrow, will be mainly performance and compatibility optimizations.
After that release I'm going to build a ROM that will be made specifically for this MOD.
I've got ideas...

Huh? The OP isn't looking to have anything included in all att ROMs. He wants one ROM. To be completely stock other than being pre-rooted.

Im talking about the updates, my bad.
This is what I meant when I posted this request. They are doing it on the international s4. Wonder why no interest here. Best part is that it keeps everything original, no counters are tripped and no status is changed.

I'd be really happy with a Scotts Clean Rom version, he runs the update and posts the latest rom soon after.
It's near stock and often adds options to put back in most that was stripped out.
I run it on my Note 2 and it is a thing of beauty. So smooth, still some touch-wiz but without AT&T bloat.
Unfortunately he doesn't have the funding for an AT&T S4 and thus far has only developed the Verizon S4.

Hi guys. I've been looking for an untouched version of 4.3 Google Edition to use on my i9505, but all ROMs available on Android Development have some sort of modification to it. Some are deodexed, others have 3-way reboot, others remove google and samsung stuff. I really wanted a version completely stock, no root, no deodex, nothing...... just pure.
I have no idea how to make my own flashable zip though. If I did I would have done it for myself.
If you guys can teach me or (even better) make one for me, I would be very much appreciated. :fingers-crossed:
I'm sure other people want this too.
Theres one in the AT&T forum already. use that one.

Hi everyone,
I am sure this has been covered...but I cannot seem to find the thread. Perhaps your search-foo is better than mine.
Anyways, I have a new AT&T S4 on MDL right now. I am trying to update to MF3 (I337UCUAMF3) but cannot. Via OTA the update downloads, restarts, and gets to 30% then fails. It is on the ATT logo, 30%, says UPDATE FAILED, then restarts. No matter what. I have tried multiple times but it still fails. OTA just fails and fails and will not let me get onto MF3.
I found a supposedly untouched stock MF3 zip and put it on the SD card and tried to update via the stock recovery, but that failed too.
Can anyone help me figure this out?
Thanks!!!

Think I should root and ROM? Do they include the LTE bands and what not?
Guess you are right. I was trying to find a ROM that was similar to Hyperdrive (ran it on my S3) but was overwhelmed. Guess I need to read more.
Need the n00bs guide to rooting the att s4 Off i go...and i you have suggestions, let me know!

Don't do it! The update has been out for a while and no one has found a way to unlock or go around the bootloader and doesn't sound like there's much hope.

Congrats! You are one of the few who is still on MDL lol.
As for rom suggestions....I'm sorry, the answer isn't gonna be pretty as it goes with the forum rules.
You have to decide your own rom as it's more of a personal choice. t's all about experimenting + trial & error to suit your taste of needs. Good luck in finding one. :good: :cyclops: They're all in S4 Android development sections

Went with the Pac-Man rom. Unfortunately, I had to figure out how to adp a new keyboard apk due to the ASOP keyboard crashing. That was not fun.
Looks great though!!!
Thanks again for all the help!
I've tried this two times and both I had the same result. I downgraded back to 4.2.2 with the D80110g_00.kdz for the tmobile g2. Then I rerooted it and added philz touch recovery. I flashed with the kitkat baseband in the cloudystock 1.1 fourm, then the rom with the patched 801 kernel after. Everything boot's up ok, and the phone works. But when I turn off the screen and back on its all grayed out with yellow lines. I have the reboot the phone for the screen to show up again. Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong?
Do the same process except do not use 80110g. Find the 80110c kdz.

Thank you, that fixed the problem. Another question I have is that when I flash the baseband, do I have to keep reflashing it when I move to another kitkat rom?

Doesn't seem like you are flashing in wrong order. If you boot up and everything runs...it's probably just due to the fact this isn't an official release and there may be bugs

same issue here. Cannot run any stock KK roms at all. I've flashed so many times and have had to return to stock. I wish this problem could be identified.
Did anyone out there figure this out?
I'm having the same problem on my device, tried several stock ROMs but nothing works even when using different basebands.
I have this problem as well and no, you're not doing anything wrong. Devs have absolutely no idea why this is happening. It seems that this is only happening with users that bought the phone and have the G build pre-installed. People that bought the phone earlier with the C build don't have this problem.
I gave up and just flashed the official KK TMO ROM with root installed. I lost my recovery but hopefully devs can get recovery on stock KK. If anything, I can always KDZ back to 4.2.2 and re-install the recovery if I want to go back to AOSP ROM's.
FWIW, I bought the G2 a week ago. When did you get yours?
I think you hit the nail on the head with G build comment. I got my phone about a month ago from TMO and it came pre-installed. I wonder if something in the actual hardware is ever so slightly different with the latest G2s...
I flashed with the C build and it didn't fix it also, guess I'll stay on 4.2.2 till there is a official kitkat root.
Anyone around in this thread with the line problem willing to test a kernel?

How do you find if you have G or C build? I thought all tmobile g2's are c build. I am getting mine tomorrow, hope it is shipped with JB rom - if so, i think it will be better to stay. After reading a bit, i heard many say tot method is working fine as explained here.
Which rom (xd thread?) are you using? Does wifi calling work?

If you go to software you can see the build, it either ends with C or D. Most likely D since you'll just be getting it. And it will be JB not KK. There's a new AutoRec file that gives KK users recovery, but since you'll be getting the D version, you'll most likely have the white line glitch issue. There's a way around it, just PM me for further questions and I'll help ya out.

I am running Android 4.4.2 KitKat on my At&t Samsung Galaxy S4 SGH-I337. I have looked at so many forums and threads but none of them have been about an At&t S4 running 4.4.2. Can someone please help me with unlocking the bootloader of this thing since I want to get CM11 on it and I can't just switch phones since I am a student and didn't pay for the device. I would really appreciate a solid process instead of various vague ones since I had soft-bricked my phone and was fortunately able to recover it.

I would also read up on Hashcodes SafeStrap thread in Dev section.
It doesn't sound like you are close to flashing roms with your current build--
A few days or couple weeks of research can be very beneficial and prevent a bricked phone
Also this will get moved to Q&A
Good luck on the flashing--backup before doing anything new--:good:

As far as i know, you can't take OTA updates from google. and yeah you should also read about Safestrap as well. Since that is the only recovery we can use.
Alright, I will read-up on those. But I have seen a few methods in which you use a Loki'd TWRP Recovery? Isn't that possible for my android version as well? Nobody specified in the methods that I saw, that's why I am asking.

What's up man? You can't use loki, TWRP, or anything else except safestrap. Read the link above for everything mk2, nb1, nc1. I know it's a lot, but read it. You should be on NC1, so first read root section for NC1. Then read recovery section and get safestrap 3.73. Then read the installation instructions for NC1 base. The GEE roms are ok, but not without bugs. I tried both of them and they weren't for me because of the bugs. I know it's a lot but those sections should get you there. Good luck k man. Oh yeah. You can't take OTA updates with the GPE rooms either. They are taken from GPE but modified to work with safestrap. The official updates won't work.

Loki from what i understand is for 4.3 or earlier, since you are on 4.4.x, Loki won't work and you can't downgrade it either, sucks i know
Thank you very much for clarifying the whole thing for me. I have read everything in that link given and now I understand how to do it. Have to say, it's quite a bit more to do for us At&t users. I don't know why Samsung chose to lock the bootloader -.-

You can't take OTA updates with the GPE rooms either. They are taken from GPE but modified to work with safestrap. The official updates won't work.

I meant safestrap 3.72. Not 3.73. Sorry. Typo.

What's up man? You can't use loki, TWRP, or anything else except safestrap. Read the link above for everything mk2, nb1, nc1. I know it's a lot, but read it. Please read the links and resources on the forums before asking questions. If you bothered to read the GPE pages, they indicate that both roms are pretty much the same as they are based on the same rom. Also, AT&T decided to ship with a locked bootloader. Samsung gives that option to carriers and it's their decision on that.
It really wouldn't matter if I suggested some roms because once you get started you'll be flashing them all sooner or later like most of us. LOL. Honestly the best thing to do is flash one, use it for about a week. If you don't like it, try another one. Once you get the hang of flashing them is not a big deal when you want to try another one. Titanium backup your user apps and restore them after you flash roms. Just the user apps, not system stuff. Easy peasy. What I usually do is do a search on you tube for a review of the rom I wanna try and see if I might like it. The guy from androidrootz usually does good ones. Have fun man. It's quite an addiction at times. LOL.
Haha I know what you mean. I had a Sony Xperia Ion before and I used to mod some little thing on it all the time. It is quite an addiction lol. Yeah I will probably end up doing that although I am hoping that the GPE will be good enough for me. Thanks.

Oh yeah. And don't even pay attention to some people telling you to do this and that before asking questions, because you didn't bother to read something. How do they know what you read and MAYBE MISSED. They're all geniuses and never need to ask questions.
Okay thanks for the tip.
