Is this normal? Lines on screen - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
Was using my s4 in a dark room when I noticed there were horizontal lines of a different shade across my screen.. (refer to attached) it is at the bottom part of the screen.. About the 1/4 mark.. Is this occurrence alright or should there be cause for alarm - spoilt screen etc.. Please advice

same happens to me, i'd be glad if someone has some info on this

I have replaced my phone 3 times.. and every phone has same issue.. this is cleatly a manufacturing defect from samsung.. I think this is pretty common in s4 display.. dont replace ur device as the new device may have more ugly screen. Better go to service centre and ask them for display replacement..

Also these lines are only visible on low brightness, grey background and in n dark room... you can use the brightness little high to get rid of these.. it seems some batches of s4 got these defective display..

After getting my phn replaced 3rd time, now I have a phone whose right side is little fade color and left side is dark color.. but I think I can live with this.. and I think all the s4 sold by flipkart have this issue..

I can confirm that it is not normal; you have a defective unit.
Here are 2 pictures of my sgs4.

I never knew you had the i9500... I heard that the octa core versions were made in factories with poor quality control

Vertical white lines on high iso pics?

Anyone else seeing vertical white lines on the edges of their taken pictures under bad lighting conditions? See here: https://plus.google.com/photos/1033...976&sqsi=7d2595b2-652e-4671-b2de-f28ce0793c6f
I am on stock rom/kernel!
AW: Vertical white lines on high iso pics?
Yep, same here. Check the "post pictures" thread, there are plenty of these lines in night shots.
I don't have an idea how to prevent them... I'll check the android bug tracker...

Found a bug report here and attached a sample picture.

Everybody with this issue, please star it!
done!
I made a post about this a while back. I have the same issues with the white lines. it seems only to be in low light conditions. its very annoying and hope there is a bug fix soon for it.

Good news, Google replied on the issue tracker a couple of days ago, they found a fix which will be included in a future update.

Pink gradient on screen

I'm reviewing the Galaxy S4 and have found an issue with my S4 which I'd like to confirm with other owners.
When looking at a completely white screen and especially on lower brightness settings I have a pink gradient at the bottom part of the screen. Here's a picture: http://i.imgur.com/9jhVEnr.jpg
Normally I'd just swap it, but before doing so and knowing how AMOLED screens usually have weird behaviors I'd like to see if anyone is suffering the same issue. I managed to get a screenshot of a YouTube review which seemed to show the same problem: http://i.imgur.com/DhryGwg.png
Anyone else? Is it normal?

no its not normal better to replace the handset
I got my UK vodafone S4 yesterday, and I've noticed the pink tint at the bottom of my screen as well. It's not as noticeable as the OP's, but noticeable none the less.
I let vodafone know this evening, and they'll send me out a replacement when they have stock back in; I'm happy to keep using the handset until then. If you're within your grace period from an upgrade, and have this problem, I recommend letting the provider know about it!
Again man? Same problem with the S3 really tired of samsung Amoleds problems...every single year there is some gradients, black inks and not black blacks...
Just checked and mine doesn't do it, Send it back.
Actually, after looking at it on my laptop it probably is about the same level as Spybreak's (was viewing on my S4 screen originally :laugh.
You can tell it's not a software thing, because if I move the phone with white webpage displayed into horizontal view, the pink tint is at the right side of the browser (bottom of the phone screen).
I finally replaced mine and the new one has no pink tint. So yeah, looks like its just some faulty units

Just realised tonight, while using the phone in bed and rebooting, that the screen has the red pixel on blacks problem as well. Bloody hell Samsung...
Replacement handset screen will be thoroughly tested as soon as I get it!

Damn I have the pink tint at the bottom as well.
I bought it new, without a subscription or anything.
I hope the web-shop will replace it, without having to send it for repair. Because I don't want to wait 3 weeks
This issue plagued my S3 experience (multiple replacements with various degrees of pink and purple gradients). Based on this and other complaints I've been following, I think I may pass on this phone and pick up AMOLED once it has been further developed.
I had slight pink issue on SGS3 (screen bottom and random areas upper) but now I have gradient on top of the display and to go down the tint is dissapearing to about 1/3 of the display. But its not only the white colour which is pinkish on the top third also other colours are shifter from upper side to downside - very annoying I can see it all the time especially on low brightness...
edit: just want to upload some of the photos (only resized, untouched)
I dug up an old SIII pic (not very good, but I have better quality shots somewhere...) and it looks a bit similar to the tint issue with the S4. I wonder what causes this during the manufacturing process?
I have pink gradient at the top of my black s4 too...

Pink spot in middle of pictures

There is a couple threads in the Z3 section about the camera having a pink spot in the middle of pics. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2919096
http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/general/xperia-z3-camera-purple-tint-lots-noise-t2917459
I can confirm my camera has this same spot in certain conditions. Anyone else experiencing it? It seems to be effecting a lot of z3's. Wondering if it's happening on all of the Z3 and Z3c. I'm still within my exchange period and am debating getting it exchanged. Only thing is there is no point if it's effecting all of them and risk getting a device with a different defect
They all have it, and afaik it only happens with automatic white balance. In theory, SonyMobile should be able to fix this through a software update. But the question is: will they? Some phones of other brands have had the exact same problem and some of those had it fixed with a software update.
another day a new issue with the z3's... am i right folks?

It's not a new issue by any means.
My Xperia Z2 Tablet has the exact same pink spot, by the way. It's a "normal" problem with the type of sensor that is used.

Indeed, the replacement would show the same pink spot anyway.
I have no problem with camera on any settings. No purple thingy.

Could you post some pictures of grey or white surfaces, with automatic white balance?
---------- Post added at 11:15 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:11 PM ----------
Also, what is your firmware version? I am wondering if it may have been fixed in any version newer than 23.0.A.2.93
---------- Post added at 11:19 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:15 PM ----------
It certainly doesn't affect all pictures, only in some specific situations with automatic white balance. Here's a picture without pinkness in the center, the grey in the center is just grey, with no pink hue.

I don't really have with grey or white surfaces but they all have auto white balance. I'm not that good at taking photos either
Maybe you guys see something I don't. I have 23.0.A.2.93.

So much for a firmware fix, haha.
In my current lighting conditions (quite low light, some warm-white energy-saving light bulb and the light from a white screen on my monitor), the spot is actually greenish/yellowish.
I'm getting the pink spot even on dark surfaces!

Oh that looks like a very severe case alright.
Haha
I don't care that much about camera anyway. It's good at taking casual pictures and that's it
This pink issue is hitting news reports on the web, which I think is a good thing. The more media attention, it may force Sony's hand to release a fix.

Well let's hope they give us official word what is causing it.. I hope it's just a sw issue

z1 display replaced and it has superb blacks and viewing angles.

My brother sent me xperia z1 from canada after he broke front glass of it. I am living in Moga(punjab 142001) india. I asked a local wholesale shop for the display unit replacement. They took 2 days and arranged a whole front panel replacement for me. It costed me only INR.3500. After fixing the phone the result left me in shock . see by yourself.
Colors are any better?
Screen Replacement
i also got that too! my phone accidentally falls to the floor (with a carpet) but it hit a hard object from the floor, causing my screen unusable. after a week i drop-by to a repair shop and ask for a replacement which last about 4 hours. after some test with the screen, the viewing angles is not bad as it was before the replacement!

try to play the "White Balance" settings. my currently settings is 5,5,69 (R,G,B)
what about battery life with screen on ?!
if it is ips then you should see better battery life >>
That is too blue man, disturbing. I was asking about the colors on the new screen.
Came to my mind also. But it actually feels like battery life is better than before. I will post results today after using it.
Colors are bit washed out than the origional i think.. But i have galaxy s5 i campared with it maybe thats why i feel it to be washed out because s5 display is too much.
I have tried to compare new z1 display with s5. Colors are dark and poppy on s5 but image patterns and effects are more visible on z1.

Sony Xperia Z5 Speaker levels

I bought the green Z5 today and i noticed that the speaker levels are not the same. The top speaker is louder then the bottom one, i donĀ“t know if this i hardware related or software.
It is quite annoying when listening to music through the speakers.
How many Z5 owners have the same issue?
Quite a few, although the degree seems to vary depending on who you are asking. Mine isn't bad, although I can tell if I listen really closely, but for the most part I don't notice at all in landscape.
There is already a thread about this somewhere fyi
