hello everyone! today I just got my Note 3 N900a. with 4.4.2 KK today.I would like to root but I don't really know where to start as I don't want to brick this device. my G Pro is rooted and custom flashed but this is my first time dealing with Knox. so I have a few questions before I dive in:
1. Will Kingo root my Note 3 and not trip knox or UVDLV work better?..what about CF-Autoroot?.I heard sammy caught on so it might not work..but I saw that it will work but still trip knox? i'm rather confused here.. My AP is N900AUCUCNC2.
2. IF I DO GET ROOT PRIVILEGES. I know that I can't flash a custom recovery and there is an ongoing bounty to unlock the bootloader. So is it safe to use safetrap and will it affect knox? Or will safestrap remove my Recovery? (On my old S4 I did the mistake of Goomanagering a recovery and wiped my stock recovery but It still worked fine haha..just couldn't update or it would go into ODIN loop..which I could get out of) I will probably want to flash a custom de-bloated KK TW ROM if I do get the chance. I used safestrap on my old Razr M but is it different now? I sound like a total idiot right now but before the Note 3 I pretty much am a confident android power user but what scares me is that while I was using my G Pro, my friend from work had a Note 3 and he bricked it and now he's stuck using his Note 2. I don't want to make a critical mistake. If a more experienced user could guide me and show me what my options are or what I have to work with I would love you forever! XD

Best answer I can give you is to check in HERE at the ATT Note 3 forum and ask, since this is the international forum for the N900/N9005 we have limited to no knowledge of other models.
oh schitt.....can someone delete this thread..my apologies

Hi all, I recently bought the Note 3 and it is the 1st Samsung device I've owned. So I'm not familiar with Samsung devices. I searched in this forum but there is no FAQ topic to start up. Now I want to root my phone and then flash custom ROM/custom recovery etc... What I have to do before start? Unlock something? Backup whatever?
Please kindly show me all steps need to do beforehand, or show me the topic I should read before start.
Thanks so much.

Root here there's 2 ways to root one will trip knox one will not if you don't care about knox you can flash anything you want, if you do care about knox you can't flash recovery or roms http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-3/orig-development
If you have n9005 roms are here http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-3/development
Or n900 http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-3/galaxy-note-3-exynos-android-development
And all you need to know is here http://galaxynote3root.com/
Hope this helps
Hello there!
I have a Galaxy Note 3 i9005. I used to have it rooted (towelroot) but I accidentally updated the phone to version 4.4.2 which sadly removed my root. I've had my phone for about a year, and I feel it's time to spice things up with a new rom, but I find myself lost in this whole flashing jungle.
So, my questions are, is it possible for me to safely root & flash my phone? If so, could anyone point me in the right direction? I've tried searching a bunch but it's very hard to find in-depth guides explaining the process in detail. I don't even know if such a guide exists for the Note 3.
I live in Sweden so I don't think the phone has a locked bootloader if that affects anything.
Please help me.

I've rooted several new note 3 with this method..http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-3/general/root-root-xxufnf4-stock-firmware-knox-t2840150
I managed to root it with that method! Knox is 0x0, thanks for the pointer man
Now, I'd like to know how to flash a custom rom. I've been looking a lot at different custom roms, however I can't seem to decide which one I want. Besides, I don't even know if I'm able to flash my phone since I'm running Android 4.4.2. All guides takes for granted that you have some knowledge with flashing, which I don't.
EDIT: Just found the safestrap thread for Verizon here ... Please disregard my post until further notice ...
I had little problems customizing my old Tmobile Note but this Verizon Note 3 seems to be a different beast altogether ...
I am rooted and want to install SafeStrap which I understand is the only custom recovery for our phones ... but I have no idea where to find the right version of SafeStrap for my phone (4.4.2) or how to go about installing it once I do. Yes I googled this and got some hits for S4 installation but that isn't exactly what I want ...
Any help much appreciated!
Okay so I'm fairly new to the forums but I'm somewhat knowledgeable when it comes to rooting and flashing custom Roms.. At least one the Galaxy S3. So I now have a note 3 and I'd like to root and install a custom recovery and then from there a custom Rom after a little more research.. Because.. Eff touch Wiz. Now I got the note from a friend and it's been fully updated knox hasn't been enabled but has been fully updated and I believe the same thing for the security policies. Now this is where my question comes in I found a method on google (galaxynote3root.com) to root and install the recovery I just wanna know if anyone can confirm this method is safe with the new updates and what not? I'd rather not brick the phone obviously lol anyways the phone model is sm-n9008w unlocked but was a Rogers phone.. Android 5.0 stock firmware and recovery knox 2.3 any help would be appreciated
Which note 3 do you have? Are you sure it's not the sm-n900w8? Depending on the ROM you install, you may need to update to the latest bootloader and modem.
Edit: read your post again. Since stock LP is on the phone, Knox has been installed and the phone would be running the doc4 or doh1 firmware.
The simplest way to root would be to install TWRP and flash supersu from TWRP. You're going to trip the knox counter from 0x0 to 0x1. Also, make sure reactivation lock has not been enabled.
I have a Rooted sm900v Verizon phone.Im on 5.0 with Knox, detoxed. So its been few yrs now and was wondering what latest OS i can run with KNox ,detoxed,or should i stay on 5.0,if so can you point out to whats out there for my version?I remember when i rooted my phone i had to pick a certain root then.So with that said just seeing if i can run a better/upgrade OS these days like OREO as an example.Looking for some feedback what other Samsung S5 sm900v guys are running, thanks.
I was on 6.0 and went to 5.0, then rooted it, unblocked the bootloader, flashed lineage.

Yo, I see you are a man of culture as well. My S5 is currently running LineageOS 15.1 (Official!) and it is BEAUTIFUL. Runs like a dream. If you want, I can show you how to get the bootloader unlocked and flash TWRP. Send me a PM if you're interested! Best of luck on your journey bro.

Jiwan, would you mind sharing the procedures here or a link to them? I have the SM-903VL model, and while I understand it's a different device, it may not be so dissimilar. I have been attempting root and twrp flash for a while and it seems 2 things are at issue, 1. I had no clue what I was doing when I started, and now, while I have some knowledge, I realize just how much I am going to have to learn If I want to figure out a root method.
2. This SM-903VL is locked up tighter than a nuns corset.
Your knowledge on the afore mentioned procedure would help me understand the workings of these phones a bit better, and, on an off chance, might actually do the trick of at least getting twrp installed.
I have the stock recovery file to insert into the TWRP.

If I could revive and piggyback on this discussion - I'd like the help you offered with getting my g900v re-rooted with TWRP running. I had a nandroid backup and accidently deleted the TWRP, which forced me to re-stock and re-root. I have not been able to recover with safestrap (not impressed) also, I kept getting gapps failures once up and running (Lollipop 5.0 rooted). My initial goal was to flash resurrection or lineage and now I am finding that most instructions say the G900v is not unlockable and I feel stuck. Would you mind sharing with me what your method was or point me to a link that you followed? - I think my chipset started with 11 (as opposed to 15) if I'm using the proper terminology.
