[Q] Kitkat leak post install questions. - Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I updated to the KitKat leak and have a couple questions.
1. We wont be able to check out the google experience launcher till after deodex, correct?
2. After the update I have like 6.5 gigs worth of random files. I assume they are left over from all my safe strapping. Anyone have any ideas on how to get rid of them? I know I may have to wait till the new safe strap hits, and I probably wont fill up the 20 gigs of free space I have left, but its really bugging me. lol.
Thanks for any info gang.

1. No you can use it now.
2. Probably odin back to 4.3 then root it and update.

[Q] forced kitkat download on note 3 by sprint

I have had my beautiful Note 3 for two weeks. When I got it it was still running android 4.3. It kept stating I had an update available and I just ignored it and it went away. This morning I wake up to my phone having downloaded 4.4 OTA from sprint. I have not hit the install button yet. I have delayed for two reasons.
1. Do I really want to update? and can I somehow get it off my phone now?
2. If I now have to do it what do I want to do first (backup, clear cash etc.) to ensure the best install as possible)?
Thank you in advance.

This one is the International Note 3 forum.
You should ask on the specific Sprint Note 3 forum (which as far as I remember is bootloader-locked and pretty specific regarding baseband frequencies):

Just install it won't wipe anything
If you are rooted you're going to have to root again

Note 3 flashing and updating

I just got myself a Verizon Note 3. This is one power house of a phone. I noticed the kid I got it from does have it rooted. The only annoyance I see is allot of stuff is showing in the status bar with Chinese writing. is this normal or did he use some dumb way to root it? Also it still has 4.3 on it. I tried to update it but I get the message that "software update is currently unavailable". Is this because the Note is rooted?
I have done some searching and I did get the files for flashing it back to stock. Odin, .mkz, and the Samsung drivers. So if this update message is because it's rooted, I do have the stuff to flash it back to stock. I do also know how to use Odin as it's the same program for flashing the Note 1, which I did have. But any insight you guys can give me would be great. Thanks

Since you're on MJE 4.3 see this thread and go to post 2 NC2/MJE instructions...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2787627
Thanks for the info gamer but I'm not looking to root or flash roms. with this phone. At least not yet anyway. It's new to me so I really need to be as familiar with it as possible before I go flashing roms and tweaks and such. I'm not familiar with the names MJE, NC2, NC4 etc. so trying to explain that to me is just like speaking German to me right now. All I want to do for the here and now is get it back to stock un rooted 4.3, take the update to 4.4.2, and then check on the need for root then.
I also will need to look into what's safe to flash, what needs to be run, app wise, in order to flash some things. Take for instance my last phone, lg optimus g pro, you needed an app called freegee to get past the bootloader. If you screwed that up, you bricked yer phone. I'm sure some of the processes for this phone are similar in that respect. So no fiddling for me just yet. So in short, could you just tell me in simple terms if I have the correct stuff to flash it back to stock?
I currently have the latest Samsung drivers, Odin 3 V3.0.9, and the tar file named "ALL_N900VVRUBMJE_N900VVZWMJE_2106277_REV03_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar.md5.7z"
Is this what is needed to flash it to stock 4.3? Also, if you don't mind, could you tell me if there is ANY way, a modem flash perhaps, to get my LTE working with this AT&T Straight Talk sim card? Currently I am getting H+ which isn't bad but it's no LTE. Thanks a bunch.
EDIT: Well, that was easy. My computer ran the Verizon software and it failed to update it so it did the repair and repaired it with kitkat. So one issue solved. Now If I can just get LTE working on here it would be great....lol

You can flash different modems in Odin but I don't know if they'll get you running on AT&T Straight Talk, someone else will have to chime in on that.
Att straight talk might work if you have the correct apn settings but you will not get 4g

Yeah I am finding this out Roger. I want to root and enable the hidden menu. I am seeing posts about doing this and getting the 4g LTE working. The problem is most of these posts pertain to the T-Mobile branded note 3.

Do NOT take OTA update for the very reason you have described. OTA will put you on 4.4.4 which their is no released root for yet. All other ROMS right now are based on the 4.4.2 version that was previously on our devices.
You can NOT installed leaked Lolipop ROM as that is not for our device. We will have to wait for our carriers version or possibly a port.
Once you get your device you should be able to root using Towelroot which is just a simple .apk that you sideload and run. https://towelroot.com/
Then go to this thread and install Safestrap which is the Recovery we use for our device since our bootloader is locked. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2517610
Follow those instructions and then you should be able to go into the Development section and load up a custom ROM. I also HIGHLY advise you take some time and read thru some threads before diving into this to educate yourself before you break something.

-No that ROM you linked to in the video is NOT for our device. That was for the international version. I believe Poland or something like that.
-Do not know about the Note 4. Would take that question to that forum. But OTA update on regular Note 3 for Verizon WILL remove root and bootloader was never unlocked.

Root and you can disable this or use a custom rom.
Rooted method:
Download "disable service" from Play Store
Open it
Go to System Apps
Find Google Services Framework and tap it
Uncheck "SystemUpdateService"
Restart your device.

Hey I disabled the service but its been 12hr later and that update window has come up again, I looked and is show that the box is unchecked...
If i were you I'd look at a dev note 3 developers edition that way no locked boot loader and you can rom way more than on regular note 3 if someone posted this my apologies I did not read everyone's post. Thanks

[Q] OTA Updates for Rooted Android 4.4.2 (towelroot)?

I used towelroot a while back to unlock my Note 3, and I love everything about it...except of course for the fact that I doesn't install OTA updates. I've shrugged off most of them, but it's downloading one right now that's over a gig in size, so I'm guessing it's a whole new version of Android. Two questions:
1) Is it Android 5 yet?
2) If so, I know I want to do the update, but as always our pesky friend the OTA root checker will undoubtedly get in the way. Do we have a way to get around the problem? Is the only answer to flash a stock ROM or can we fool the check process somehow?

1) Depend of the model of your device. Install this APP for know more info about.
2) Flashing again the stock rom is best solution for unroot completely your device.

[Q] SM-N910T Kitkat Vs Lollipop ? , which processor? should I root?

Ok Noob here (at least in this forum) - tmobile note 4 : Not rooted (yet)
1) should I update to 5.0 OTA or stick with 4.4.4?
2) IF i move to 5.0 does anyone know where i can get original stock tmobile 4.4.4 ROM if i want to go back?
3) I figure If I OTA update to 5.0 and then root - It would be safer than rooting 4.4.4 , but really want to backup my 4.4.4 if possible? How can I do this without root?
4) I heard (rumor) that root under 5.0 is more restrictive than 4.4.4 is this right?
Lastly
Under tis forum i see 2 sun categories:
Note 4 Android Development (Exynos)
Note 4 Android Development (Snapdragon)
How can i tell which processor I have in my device?
Thank you for your patience.
1. Really its up to your preference if you don't like it you can always go back to kitkat. theirs a lot of guides how to do so.
2. yes go to sammobile or search the forums.
3. there's no way of backing up 4.4.4 without root. you can root 4.4.4 or 5.0.1
4. I haven't really heard this, But really you just try it and if not your liking then go back to kitkat.
5. you have the snapdragon since its from t mobile.

Thanks so much! One last question - If do the OTA update to 5.x through Tmobile - do i need to worry about loosing any data or apps, apps settings, etc?
Im not rooted so cant do titanium or nandroid, but worry about things going missing after update - what should i backup ? or is it pretty seamless these days?
Sorry if this seems like a dumb question - last time i did OTA back on Eclair to Froyo it basically nuked everything.. so though id ask to make sure.

if you update through ota all your apps and settings will remain there. they just get optimized for 5.0.1. so dont worry about things going missing unless theres a app thats not compatible with loli yet.
