Hi All,
Wondering if any of you have this problem with your trinity. I usually power off the screen and keep in the pouch. It tends to heat up alot on plastic and the battery drains extremely fast as if the screen is on.
But in reality i haven't switched anything on (GPS/Data Connection/Wifi/Bluetooth).
Anyone know whats going on?
By the way my ROM is 1.23.707.6, Radio 1.35.00.11, TRIN100.
Are you sure you haven't turned on a GPS app by mistake- GPSInfo etc?
Can you check Settings/Memory/Running programs and see if anything is listed when the battery drain occurs. GPSInfo doesn't close by itself so if running, it will keep the GPS awake, and drain the battery. Have you tried putting it into 'Flight Mode' to see if that fixes it?
When you power off the screen, are you using the power switch ( top right side?)
Are you in a marginal 3G region? If so, the device will constantly search for a 3G signal and switch from GPRS to 3G many times. 3G drains the battery quckly anyway, but the constant signal searching drains it quicker. To test that, go to Phone/Settings/Band and switch the upper box from Auto to GSM.
Hi NeilM,
Thanks for your reply. Yes I am using the power switch and there are no programs in the memory. I just switched teh Band according to your recommendation but I set it to WMCDA instead. Seems to get me stuck on "3G" while with GSM I can only get "E" - Edge/GPRS. Also I set the GSM/UMTS band to UMTS (2100+800).
I am charging it now so I will check it out tomorrow to see if it makes a difference.
Thanks.
WMCDA is 3G only, so setting to that will result in no signal if you are out of 3G coverage. Setting to GSM will mean you can't connect to 3G, but will still continue to get G or E, which consume much less power.
The GSM/UMTS band can be left to Auto.
If you find that the 3G switching is part of the problem, using a small program called Bandswitch will allow easy switching between the services; better still, it's free!
You may want to open up your case and check your battery. There may be a short on the connectors somewhere which is causing a massive drain. Tell tale signs will be burn marks on the battery.
I've checked the battery seems to be fine. But I decided I will send it in for warranty and got a replacement. Just charging the new one. Will see if it helps tomorrow.
By the way I looked in the WM6 threads and found this:-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1263211&highlight=battery+drains#post1263211
I have the same problem occasonaly. Think its the band issue because I had it in a concert where my signal strength was not good
yeap i can verify that now. My battery power is normal now. The tool Comm Mgr Pro is also useful to switch between 3G and 2G when I require it. I get Edge when I am 2G. While this helps, but probably won't be able to receive 3G video calls when I am on Edge.
Also I don't know why this never happen to my Hermes (O2 Trion which I bricked). One difference i noticed my the hermes is that the band only changes from G>U, Didn't have the switching from G>E>3G>H. Maybe its the new software i saw mentioned a couple of times in the forum.
So for the past week and a half my G2 battery started draining super fast and it seems that the cell standby is the problem.
If I reboot the phone and have it on for 10mins cell standby time will show time on being 20mins. How is it searching for a signal an extra 50% of the time when it hasn't been on?
Also it will show that I have been without a signal for 50% of the time the phone has been on when I've never lost signal at all.
So the point of this thread is to see if I have a defective device so I can get it replaced. If anyone can help me out and post their Cell Standby times and Time Without signal percentages after a reboot and/or after a days use I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks.
I'm glad I'm not the only one that had that problem. I had literally the EXACT same problem you are having, and exchanging my phone for a new one fixed it. My cell standby with that phone was in upwards of 79% and averaged 50% without a signal according to that screen. The new phone sits anywhere from 14-40% cell standby, and although there is definitely something wrong with how the radio on this handles signals, I don't get dropped calls anymore and it spends 0% of the time without a signal.
Another problem I had, and am still having, is that data connections just drop with no warning and I have to either wait forever for it to figure it out (there are no indicators of this status in the task bar, however nothing data wise will load) or put in in and out of airplane mode to reestablish a connection. I know plenty of others who have this issue as well and wonder if you do too.

I did some checking around with other people that have Android phones as well (not just the G2) and they do not have this problem either. The good news is T-Mobile is sending a replacement because this unit is in fact a defect. Thank you Gwanatu for posting.
Guys, can you tell me how to see this cell standby info? I got mine yesterday and the disconnects are starting to irritate me. Behaves identically to my Nexus, up arrow stays for a looong time, up to a min until it starts receiving data.
Still agonizing about replacing my Nexus, so if these disconnects are a G2 "feature" as well, then I'll just go back...
Thanks

Settings>About Phone>Battery Use>Cell Standby.
A T-Mobile rep told me they are using new/different type sim cards for smart phones and that could be a possible issue if you are using an older one. Mine was about 5-6yrs old.
My cell standby is at 58% and time witout a signal is 50%...
Did a quick google search and found the airplane mode trick
1. Plug in phone charger
2. Put phone in Airplane mode
3. Put phone to sleep for a minute
4. Turn off airplane mode
5. Unplug phone
I did this and now my cell standby is at 14% and time without a signal is at 3%
fwiw my cell standby is 21% since last reboot days ago.
I do not have php and it is well past 15 days...airplane trick no longer works...still sitting @ 41% cell standby...don't know what else to do

Does any one think a factory reset and training the OS would help?

ive noticed the cell standby % being higher than it was on my nexus one. cell standby is typically the highest % item in my battery use list (my nexus was always the damn screen sucking up power). if i click it it shows the % time without a cell signal. for me, its always been 0% whenever i check so im not losing signal ever it seems. my battery life is actually quite awesome with this phone so it doesnt seem to be affecting anything really. maybe it has to due with the fact that this phone's SoC is a smaller fabrication and more efficient? that might make other stuff appear to use more power compared to older phones that had less efficient SoC's. just a thought
I just in stalled Screebl lite app. Basicly keeps the phone from going off. Once installed my cell standy by went from 37% to 12%. Can any one else confirm the same results?

My cell standy was running at 60+% with no signal running 50%. I did the online chat with Customer Care, and she ended up saying they were going to replace the phone. Funny part is that during the troubleshooting, I pulled the battery for a few minutes, and since then, cell standby has been 39%, with 0 lost signal time. I don't know what that did, but battery life has increased a ton. And a replacement is on the way...may try it for a few days, but this is working fine, so not sure I am going to exchange.
I got a weird one for you guys. I had LTE on my nexus 4, but after tethering for awhile, my LED started flashing red and the phone got hot. So I turned off tethering, but my LTE became intermittent, and over the course of the next day, I lost LTE connectivity altogether, even if I set it to LTE only, I wouldn't get any signal. This is what I've tried, changing different hybrid radios, changing ROMs, factory restore to original ROM. The other symptom, and the one I care more about, is that my battery now drains pretty quickly, whereas it would last 3 hours of screen time on before this incident, now it lasts less then an hour. And it seems to drain while the phone screen is off. Anyone have any ideas what it could be? Did I burn out my LTE modem?
I think you need a new battery.

I have a feeling it has something to do with the modem. Day 2 with the damaged phone reveals that my signal will go in and out, sometimes it will be on 3g, sometimes on edge (even in 3g areas). If that's the case, a new battery won't necessarily help.
Now 3g is gone completely. I can only use 2g. Anyone else run into this problem?
I had this problem a few years back. It was the wireless provider who was adjusting my internet speeds. After one simple call they stropped doing this and my phone was always connecting at 3G (I don't have the LTE hack installed)
Hey everyone,
I picked up a T2 on Thursday morning coming from a Maxx, and after the first day I felt I wasn't getting quite the battery life I should. After watching the battery stats and doing some research, the issue seems to be due to Lollipop's well-documented cell standby bug. Coming from KitKat I have been pretty frustrated by this, as my T2 will sometimes drain 5% or more in an hour of idling if WiFi (or possibly Bluetooth) is on, and seems to drain much faster with use if WiFi is on. (Note that all of this is taking place in areas with very strong 4g and WiFi signal).
When WiFi is turned on, Cell Standby tops the battery consumption chart by a large margin and my unscientific eyeball test suggests that the battery drains much faster.
Is anyone else having this issue? I'm considering taking the T2 back, but honestly there aren't any other new phones with comparable battery life, and it would be hard to give up the shatterproof display. Other than this I'm loving the phone and Lollipop.
Thanks!
I'm not having that issue at all and I leave my WiFi on pretty much all the time. I just checked mine and in 13 hrs my cell standby was 8%. Honestly idk if that's good or bad.
I guess I'll just keep an eye on it. Over this past night Cell Standby was on for 10 hours and had the Mobile Radio on for 8 hours while the phone was idle. Not sure if this is intended or not. My battery woes could just be in my head.
cell standby has been near or at the top of all 3 of my Verizon Lollipop phones so dont believe its a Turbo 2 direct issue.
I guess I'll just be patiently awaiting marshmallow then!
Try this, idk if it'll help or not but under WiFi settings under keep WiFi on during sleep, choose only when charging.

Thanks, I'll give it a shot!
I've also read this cell standby time is related to WiFi and possible fixes are as follows. Turn off allow Google to scan for networks even if off, keep WiFi on during sleep charge only, LTE instead of global, and then go into recovery and clear cache. This is what I did and my cell drain is very low. Hope it helps.

Thanks for the tips - I changed all the settings but I'm having trouble getting into recover. When I try to launch from the bootloader I just get the dead Android with "No Command" displayed below it. Is there something I'm missing? FWIW I have dev mode on and unlock oem bootloader on.
I wouldn't turn on unlock boot loader this disables some security features and unless we have a way to truly unlock it. It's better to leave on. Dev mode doesn't affect drain issue at all. Here's link for booting into recovery.

Got it. Thanks for the help!
Mine drains fast while sleeping at home. In my case, the signal is poor so the phone has to crank up the radio power, draining the battery.
UPDATE: For anyone interested, the fixes suggested in this thread seem to have done the trick for me. After changing settings and wiping cache I am getting even better battery life (7-8 hours of screen on time up from 5-6 in similar conditions). This could, of course, be due to other factors - but hey, it's worth a shot if your battery is draining quickly!

Which lte did you pick? There is 2 options. Also how do you get into recovery? Thanks
LTE/CDMA
I personally have noticed that turning off mobile data when connected to WiFi helps. I have done this with previous phones
I experienced this the other day after spending the weekend in an area with spotty service. To fix all I did was reboot the phone.

Hey sorry but could you give a bit of a walkthrough for all the processes you took? Bit of a newbie here and my moto x force doesn't seem to be doing very well with the drain
Giving this a shot now...hopefully this works for me as well
Changing those settings helped immediately
So I recently switched from MetroPCS to Verizon. The day I switched my battery died twice as fast. Cell standby being the problem according to the battery stats. 2nd day, same exact thing. So I did a factory reset. Then the next day the same exact thing. This did not happen on MetroPCS. Also, it seems to only be a problem when WiFi is on, but not connected for most of the day. Which is strange, because I don't see how your carrier would make that a problem. Has anyone else experienced this? Fixed this?

No signal?
Check your cell signal connectivity to see if you are losing signal throughout the day, if your phone loses signal your Cell Standby will constantly search for a signal untill it finds one eating your battery. I have this problem when at work, I don't get signal and my battery drains. I fix this by using Airplane mode when I know I don't have signal. Saves my battery Everytime.
Yeah, would be surprised but Verizon may have worse coverage than the Sprint MVNO in your work area. If your cell radio is constantly hunting, it will chew battery. Have you tried Wi-Fi advanced settings to leave Wi-Fi on at all times, even while the phone is sleeping? May sound counter intuitive, but for me Wi-Fi uses almost nothing battery wise. But like Noland said, if you KNOW you will be in an area of poor reception for a long period of time, airplane mode will save battery. Also check data usage by App. You may have a rogue app sucking bandwidth. Cheers.

Some Verizon members reported poor cell reception with the current radio. I think the January security updates include a new radio. Maybe that will help.
