Help! Help!! Help!!! Please! - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone.
I want to help a friend restore his Mytouch 4G. He just brougth it to me that it stucks at Boot. It stucks at the "Mytouch 4g" startup screen. Don't know what he tried before it started.
It wouldn't connect to PC when on Fastboot mode
I can get to Bootloader so I decided to do a factory reset from bootloader. When I select the "FACTORY RESET" option, the device doesn't do anything.
So I decided to use the PD15IMG zip. When it starts updating, it stucks at "BOOTLOADER - Updating" and wouldn't get past it.
The device details are as follows

Try flashing a custom recovery via fastboot.
Then flash a new rom via recovery.

Thanks Brother

Thanks for coming to my aid. But the devices would not connect to PC. Either on fastboot.
When I select "FASTBOOT" from the bootloader and put the usb, it doesn't connect. Anyother way to push Custom Recovery in? Thanks

There is a way.
Have you already downloaded a file like PD15IMG.zip?
If you havent, try downloading one from the dev section. Its a stock rom(unrooted).
After downloading it, you should format ur sdcard in fat32 and place the file in the root directory of ur sdcard.(you could use an sdcard reader or put it into another phone in order to copy the file to the sdcard.)
Now insert the sdcard into the mytouch 4g and boot into bootloader. It should ask you weather you want to update. Press the volume up for yes.
And sit back. After its done, it would ask you to press power to reboot.
Press power. And i think it should boot from there.
If you have any questions, you could ask me.
EDIT:
OOps my bad, forgotten you already tried that.
Lets try flashing an eng- hboot.
Download this eng hboot.
Once done extract the image file onto your pc. Now open the PD15IMG zip you downloaded before and extract the file with the name "android-info.txt".
Once done compress both the eng-hboot and the "android-info.txt" into one zip file with winrar and rename it to PD15IMG.zip.
Now Send the file to ur sdcard and insert it into your mytouch 4g.(Remember to format the sdcard in fat32).
Reboot into bootloader and press up button once asked if you want to update.

Help think I might have bricked my Magic(32A)

Hi,
I feel very bad asking but can you please help me with my Magic(32A) - Rogers.
Here is the story,
I bought the phone on ebay and the seller indicated that he rooted the phone before he sold me. So I thought okay as its rooted I can go to fast boot and just apply update.zip. So I did the below
1. switched off the phone
2. pressed home + power on and went to fast boot
3. did clean swipe
4. applied update.zip
It applied the custom rom(CyanogenMod 32a) and after that I am stuck on Roger's boot-up screen. So after this I removed my battery and I tried to going to fastboot and clicking Nandriod v2.1.1 restore and I get this error "E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblkop1". After that I did wipe and tried to apply restore but can "Error running nandriod restore. Restore not performed".
Can you please advise me of any options I have to restore my magic back.
Thanking you
FD
If you where not flashing the SPL you "should" still be ok if you can get into fastboot.
If you can just try to apply the ROM again, you might want to download another copy or different ROM (Hero maybe).
Clinton
do me a fav and power on holding down the vol down. see if you go into fastboot. if you do then you are not bricked. if so, see what your radio and spl is plus check if your (s) is off. if so you are rooted and you flashed the wrong board rom. if its on then your seller lied and you are not rooted. if so fallow the rooting guides that are posted here. if you need ne help just pm me and i will apply my skills the best i can. i want all to be rooted and experience the true right of freedom. lol. fosho. . . .
Partial hope
When I power it on and hold volume down I can get into fastboot mode and here is what I can see on the screen

Thanking you

Thank you rocking_mod I was able to restore my phone. Here is what I did
1. downloaded HoFo mod to renamed it to update.zip and copied it to SD card
2. used a recovery img and did a fast boot and loaded the img
3. after the reboot did a clean wipe
4. loaded the HoFo rom from the recovery mode.
And finally now the phone works again. Enough of action for one day.
Thanks again.

Congrats!
Always great to see when someone bring his mobile back to live
I'm guessing the ROM you downloaded was not compatible with your phone. As a side note, do NOT apply the Rogers update ontheir web site. It will upgrade your SPL to the dreaded perfect version.
I got the same error when I first apply the hofoion108.zip. I happened to press apply again somehow, and it had no errors at the second time. My phone can start with that rom later on.
I need help, i am in same situation as you freedonkey, but i don't know where to get the files you reffer to:
1. downloaded HoFo mod to renamed it to update.zip and copied it to SD card
2. used a recovery img and did a fast boot and loaded the img
3. after the reboot did a clean wipe
4. loaded the HoFo rom from the recovery mode.
The HoFo mod and which recovery image should i use and where to get it ?

ps: I am not sure, but i dont know what model is mine (i am kind of a newbie :/) i think it should be Rogers, but not sure, bought it in Portugal blocked to TMN phone company.
I also "soft-bricked" my Magic when installing a new ROM. I had wrong radio and didn't wipe before trying to install - all I was left was the HTC boot splash.
I was then, after a few days of reading & thinking, able to restore the device! I had bought it used so I had no warranty.
I used ADB to check out if the device was alive or dead. I wiped everything that was left (kernel, boot, system and userdata) and flashed new radio that would work with CM5/6. After that I flashed Amon_RA 1.71 Recovery, a 1.6 Donut ROM, gapps and new kernel. It worked! After that (for a month) I've been playing with CM6 nightlies and RC's.
If you don't want root capablities, just the original ROM, there should be good info on that. But if you do, I would recommend to follow CyanogenMod instructions from their wiki - they're helpful and easy to follow.

Thanks for the help kantiii, i will see what i can doo tonight when i get back home
Hey again Kantii,
I am sorry i am bit newbie, I figure out my phone is still alive sthoughout ADB as u did, but i don't know for sure how to:
1- I wiped everything that was left (kernel, boot, system and userdata)
- I actuall wiped it after i turned the phone on with Home+off buton, does that inclued kernel and system wipe ?
2- flashed new radio that would work with CM5/6
- CM = Cyanogen Mod ??? which of these files u recomend to me ? (Both radio and CM5/6 ?)
3- I flashed Amon_RA 1.71 Recovery, a 1.6 Donut ROM, gapps and new kernel
- Is Amon_RA 1.71 Recovery compatible with any HTC MAgic ???
I am really newbie about all this so I would appreciate all details! :|
thanks a lot for everything so far anyway
Sorry for long time no reply! I had not checked my mailbox!
You should wipe them in fastboot:
1. Turn your phone on by pressing back + power until you are in fastboot & see the skating droids. Another method to do this is turning the phone on by pressing volume down + power and then the back key.
2. Connect the device to your pc (make sure you see FASTBOOT USB on the phone display) and run CMD
3. type "fastboot devices" and check if your phone is plugged in correctly and you see the device ID.
4. Now you can wipe them correctly with fastboot:
4.1 type "fastboot erase [system/cache/userdata/boot/kernel/recovery all separately]" (without brackets etc, they are here to make reading easier)
4.2 Download:radio http://www.theandroidkitchen.com/fi...es/?download=Radio_HTC_PVT_32A_3.22.20.17.img
SPL http://briancrook.ca/android/3.22/hboot-1.33.2005.img
recovery http://rapidshare.com/files/387932922/recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.7.0H-cyan.img4.3. Move the downloaded files to C:\ (and if you want, rename to Radio.img and Hboot.img and Recovery.img) so it is easier to use them. After that type "cd.." in cmd repeatedly until you are in C:\
5. Now you should be able to flash the radio, SPL and recovery images:
5.1 Type "fastboot flash radio Radio.img"
5.2 Type "fastboot flash hboot Hboot.img"
5.3 Type "fastboot flash recovery Recovery.img"
5.4 In each step wait until fastboot says it has finished - if you won't, you have to start everything again or may brick your device.
6. Now in your phone press menu to power down it. Then boot again to fastboot to confirm you flashed correctly:SAPPHIRE PVT 32A ENG S-OFF H
HBOOT-1.33.2005
RADIO-3.22.20.177. Now power down the device again and boot to recovery by pressing home + power.
7.1 In recovery, check that it works correctly (no lag, no crashes, functions work properly)
8. Now you can install CyanogenMod 6 and enjoy fast FroYo on your Magic
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Upgrading_from_CyanogenMod_4.2_to_CyanogenMod_5/6
Good luck and hopefully you can restore your device!

Not to thread hijack, but these instructions look well suited to my situation. At step 4.1 I get the error "FAILED (remote: not allow)". How to solve?
These instructions are only for Magic, but..
Post your fastboot details, please.
Hi my magic 32b is stuck on vodaphone splash screen.no fastbiot or recovery.but chargeable via usb and has blue light too.can u show me steps to softunbrick
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Sorry, but 32b is out of my area
Try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=755903
After that, test if you can get to fastboot or hboot (fastboot: back + power, hboot vol down + power). Then report back and search the forum for further help on restoring your device with new SPL & radio & recovery & ROM
Otherwise, if these won't work you could try JTAG.
Hope this helps,
kanttii

Sorry my english is very bad. I tried to root my phone image by replacing''Recovery''to step flash recovery fastboot boot.img boot.img''is the new image can not load MSDOS reported "boot.img''boot file. dc img has put in SKD / tools, and do not know the new Image download file decompression is necessary or is not simply rename a DC? I leave it renamed unsuccessfully boot.img

I have no idea about your error, but you can't flash recovery.img unless you have an engineering SPL (which you'd have to root to acquire).
Please boot your phone holding home and vol- and post what's displayed on the screen.

i had a similiar problem with yours. stuck in the recovery img and spl issue. my actual statu is a rooted phone with a cutom recovery img but with the original spl and radio(about to change those too).
this is how i did:
as far as i've learned, u dont need to flash your spl in order to flash your recovery.
i intalled FlashRec.apk and then installed RA recovery img from it. there a video on youtube called how to root your magic in one click. try that!
goodluck!
Looks like you have a Rogers Magic, correct?
You have S-ON (security on) so you can't flash anything useful from fastboot.
I use a 32B device, so hopefully a fellow Rogers user can help you :-/

I tried to use that way, but that backup device''error flaied image invalid"I think I deleted the original recovery of the phone and now my phone is not in recovery mode again, no way to recover it?
if you follow the way of''recovery''Amon_RA img instead only image recovery platforms, the need of the SDK is not it? I think I have not installed successfully because when you type the command ADB ADB device only shows up on MSDOS''attached''List of devices without the S / N of my phone

Just because the backup failed, doesn't mean your recovery is gone. Use home+power and tell us if it's still there.
"adb devices" will show the serial number of all attatched devices, you have it set up correctly. However you can not use adb or fastboot to root your device.

Oh, and flashrec did that? As in, it removed recovery but couldn't flash a new one?
That's a *****, you could try another root method like universal androot to get to flash the custom recovery image.

[Q] Is my MT3G 3.5mm bricked?

Hello all,
I've been trying to find a solution to this problem for the last 3 days, and get nowhere. About a year ago, I rooted my Mt3g LE using the unlockr's goldcard method.
Everything worked fine until 5 days ago, when some programs stopped working. So I try to get into my recovery, and it's no longer there.
Now, I boot back into the ROM, and go to ROM manager to fix permissions. I reboot again, and try to get to my recovery. Still no, so then I got into my ROM, and clicked "Fix recovery".
Big mistake.
Now, my phone is stuck at the ROM loading splash screen. I found my goldcard, tried to flash the same SPL that it was rooted with [the top one on this page](http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=548218)
and it tells me "Model ID Incorrect".
Then, I tried both of the other SPL's on that page, and it tells me the same thing. I checked my goldcard on my friend's phone, and it seemed to work okay.
summary= Can't boot into ROM, can't get into recovery, can't flash SAPPIMG's.
I can get into HBOOT and FASTBOOT / FASTBOOT USB on my phone.
The lastest thing I've tried is to [unroot](http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=665814) but it tells me "Main Version is older! Update fail!"
Try the stock recovery (power off the phone, press and hold HOME+POWER, until you see the phone with exclamation sign, then let go and press HOME+POWER again, until you see the stock recovery, might take a few presses to get to it), with this rom "6db5d4965a64.OTA_Sapphire_TMOUS_3.56.531.1-2.10.531.4_P2_release", just do a search here. Rename the file to update.zip and put it on the root of your sd. When you're in stock recovery do a wipe and then flash the update.zip. See if that works for you.
I'm in the same situation though and nothing I've tried has worked.
I did discover that I can get into ADB when it's trying to boot.
Is there anything I can do via ADB?
I've attached a logcat for any ideas.
thanks dark0,
the screen just stays at the HTC MAGIC splash, though. I left home and power pressed for 6 minutes.
If you still have root access and your fastboot is working, try flashing the amon ra's recovery through fastboot (http://theunlockr.com/2010/03/11/how-to-root-the-mytouch-1-2-and-fender-mytouch/ , skip to step 4 if you've already set up the adb on your pc), and see if that works, if you still have root, you won't be getting the "not allow" message when flashing.
From there you'll be able to flash the new rom to get out of the bootloop.
Go into fastboot mode and post here ALL info.

You can try getting RUU and then flashing while in HBOOT or PC10IMG.zip ROM image format and restore your system. Copy this one http://minus.com/mbdiuZrg2K/ to your sdcard root directory and launch your device while holding keys: camera+vol down+power and it would manage to automatically flash Froyo for you.
Ok.
I download the file and put into my sd card but I don't undestand the camera button. The black central under the screen or the right one, near battery unlock?
Sorry but I don't know this device well...
Some info.
I've tried from 4ext to flash MIUI without success.
The problem was after a Cyano flash. On the SD I've a directory called "BootManager", another folder "rom8" with boot.img, cache.img, data.img, log.img, system.img, name. Near rom8 there's a file README.txt:
This package is intended for use on a rooted HTC Desire Z aka T-Mobile G2 aka HTC Vision only.
Using it on any other phone might brick it as the boot partition or some other partition will be overwritten.
It will allow you to put a bootable ROM onto your SD card and boot from it.
This is useful when partitions like /system or /data are not accessable or mountable any more.
ATTENTION: USE THIS PACKAGE ON YOUR OWN RISK, IT MIGHT BRICK YOUR PHONE.
IF POSSIBLE MAKE A FULL BACKUP OF ALL PARTITIONS USING RECOVERY.

This package contains CyanogenMod 7.1 configured to boot from SD card.
Extract the zip file and copy its content to your SD card.
Bootable system files are now on the SD card in the directory "BootManager/rom8"
Make sure that no PC10.... whatever ... file is in the root of your SD card.
* Insert your SD card into your phone (do not connect usb cable).
* Boot into hboot mode by holding POWER + VOLUME DOWN about 5 seconds until your phone boots.
* Use VOLUME DOWN to navigate to "FASTBOOT".
* Use POWER button to select "FASTBOOT".
* Connect phone and computer using an USB data cable
* Your phone is now in fastboot mode and shows the red message "FASTBOOT USB"
You can now boot from SD card using the following command
from your platform-tools folder of the Android SDK:
fastboot boot boot.img

Phone should boot into and run CyanogenMod 7.1

HELP! Tried to flash new rom, stuck on white screen,b-loader and CWM still there

Hello all!
Please help me
I have pretty good understanding of rooting procedures and custom roms, I have put custom roms on about 10 different phone models, including one previous HTC (CHA CHA)
Tried to flash custom rom, everything goes ok but the phone displays white logo with htc symbol and stays like that.
I still have access to bootloader and cwm recovery.
Sometimes cwm recovery displays message :
E: cant mount cache:recovery/command
E: cant mount CACHE:recovery/log
e:cant open CACHE:recovery/log
Sometimes it does not show though.
I've read that it may be beacuse of emmc chip which gets damaged during taking the battery off when the phone is working.
What to do now ? I tried flashing different roms but nothing happens, when flashing them from CWM i get no error messages,
but when i reboot I get the white screen with htc logo.
Please help ... ;(

CLOCKWORK MOD IS clockwork mod recovery v2.5.1.2 (MODACO r2)
Another curious thing, it says that it is s-on, but I did dev unlock before !?!?!?!
here is complete history of my actions
I got this desire HD from my friend, he wanted me to put some unofficial 4.0 rom on it.
I remember from when I had htc cha cha that you should first do dev unlock.
Trying to do dev unlock, I selected european RUU but ruu update program told me that it can not be upgraded.
Somewhere on forums , I've read that I could just continue with procedure. So I did.
I got the codes, sent them to HTC and they mailed me the bin file.I got the prompt about unlocking on the phones display, i choose to unlock it.
Then i flashed clockwork mod on it via terminal.
Then i downloaded custom rom and flashed it , but i just get white screen.
Bad thing is I have not made backup (
what to do now please help (((
You have to flash the boot.img separately when flashing roms on a HTC dev unlocked device. That's why it doesent start after a flash. Get it relocked and get S-OFF instead. Search "advanced ace hack kit attn1" on goggle and use it.
Get the ruu for your device and run it from fastboot menu then get S-OFF with advanced aace hack kit.
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using xda premium
OK I have found the aahk thing you told me, when I get home I will try to relock it (usin fastboot oem unlock command ? )
then to unlock the s-on thing....
I send the fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin command and on prompt it says ok but on the phone nothing happens
Also, under device manager phone is registered as android 1.0
anyone help please
When I enter fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin
I get ok messages , but nothing happens on the screen of the phone
I repaired the drivers, when i enter other fastboot commands, like reboot, device reacts.

Please help ... ;(

To flash a custom rom with an unlocked bootloader you have to flash the rom in CWM first and then flash the boot.img of the rom in fastboot.
Follow this:
Get the boot.img file from inside the .zip file and place it in the PC, somewhere where u can easily find it.
Put the zip in the sdcard
Boot in CWM. Full wipe and flash the rom
Go to advaced options and reboot bootloader
Toggle to fastboot and plug the phone to the PC (you will see fastboot usb in red)
Open a CMD as admin or Terminal as root in the PC
Navigate in CMD to the folder where the boot.img file is located
Type: fastboot flash boot boot.img
Then reboot, and you should be ok....:good:
