so, today, i needed to look up driving directions and my phone would not lock in. i thought it was kinda strange, so when i got home i did some research. attached are the gps test results. I know that it's the phone, because when i checked it on my nexus 10, it locks in right away. i tested both of them next to each other. i tried using the gmps status app to clear A-gps data and doing resets with the gps status apps, but it did not help. it's no driving me crazy since most people are happy with their gps in the nexus 4 and seem to be able to lock in within seconds. i've left maps on for minutes with no success. i've already checked both google settings in the accounts and location to be on.
i recently started charging my phone with the lg wireless orb. do you think that's the issue? how can i fix this? it's driving me crazy.
It seems to see the satellites, but can't lock in.
You've tried rebooting, right?

Kinda hoping to avoid that unless there's no other option. Don't really want to go through the hassle of setting everything up again

Hello,
I have had the same issue on many android devices. I believe that it stems from the "google now" application, which isn't even really well implemented on the GS4 anyway.
You can make it use less battery by turning off GPS when not using it, or if it really bothers you, you can always turn off location services.
What I have done is turn off all the cards in google now that use location, so things like weather, traffic, photo spots, public transit, etc...
This has helped my battery life a lot, more so on my Nexus 4 than my GS4, but still helpful nonetheless.
By the way, Ins't the GS4 the most kickass phone ever? xD

If you have root access on your phone I would suggest this app:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2155737
it will hibernate apps and save you lots of battery life.:good:
Is there any way to clear the inbox faster? I have over 20000+ and I really don't want to remove them all one by one.... I use this program mainly for texting in no signal areas but where I get wifi only which is at work for 6 hours every single day.

There isn't a select all in the Voice app, but you can go to http://www.google.com/voice and select more than one at a time there from your computer.

I've noticed the past few days google services is taking a chunk out of the battery life. I have BetterbatteryStats and Wakelock Defender and i cant identify the specific app causing it. If i do a battery pull the usage goes down but it eventually comes back up even on a voice call the percentage drops but then raises again to a really high percentage im at a loss here need some guidance. I have taken some screen shots

I have found the solution to this issue:
1) System settings
2) More tab
3) Location Services
4) Uncheck Use wireless networks
This will eliminate the excessive use of Google Services battery life. And you will still have location based access app wise.

Thank you for this. I am on Rogers and we just got the new update. Since then, google services is destroying my battery life. It's using about 90% and my battery is lasting half of its normal length.
Trying your solution tomorrow after a full charge.:good:

Found same/similar results after turning off location services. One of the worst culprits of power consumption!

This didn't work for me.
Today, I woke up, unplugged my phone and drove to work (50 min drive). I listen to internet radio in the car via TuneInRadio, and didn't touch the phone all day while at work. Drove home and again streamed internet radio.
Here are the results. As you can see, I still have an issue :crying:

Yup. I did as you suggested.
I have looked more into this issues and Google services boards are flooded with users having this same issue in 4.2.2. It seems that it's actually the the new Google maps that came with it as indicated by a few users here. http://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/mobile/U0MjxOQl3w0
Users have discovered that the v7 of Google maps is constantly trying to find location, even if a user has disabled it under the phones settings. It's not allowing the phone to go to sleep. As you can see is this screen capture, Google services ran 10hrs43mins out of the 14 hours my phone was off the charger.

Try this uninstall the newest version of Gmaps afterwards your left with the previous version of Gmaps then open the Google Play app and you'll see an update to Gmaps and install it then restart your S4. Monitor it from there for a day or two.

Okay, so here it is. This is a confirmed bug with Google Play services v 4.1.6. Google has a new version, 4.1.10 that fixes the location issue and batter drain.

Just noticed this issue. I wonder if this has anything to do with the new Maps update? I never had this issue on my S3.. then again I was on a custom stock rom.. As now I'm on the MF3 update...
I'm not so sure why Google doesn't push those updated too all the devices. Therefore, I am asking myself if it's normal or if it can do any harm if we update it ourselves?
I have Google Play services 4.1.6 and do not experience that issue. So it is not consistent. But there are so many individual tweaks we do that it may be difficult to track down.
Go to the google browser, then settings, find "location" and uncheck the locations settings there and see if this works. Or do a factory reset and then just uncheck every features that comes with the fresh reset on my GT-I9505. Then go to Google play app store and turn off "automatic updates".
My battery record is ~ 3 days and 1h watching Youtube, twitch surfing internet in 100% screen contrast an hour or so on, playing games but this includes the GPS, Wi-Fi and Mobile data, sync when not used. Not joking. I'll be uploading screenshot soon enough.
Same problem for me on S III using JB 4.1.2.

Question for you. I'm running JB 4.1.2. As you can see by the screenshot, the selection you're suggesting is "and/or". Apples to apples?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 4
Figured out whats causing my google services to use crazy amounts of battery... the culprit was samsung push service.. removing the latest update and going back to the factory version fixed the problem for me... the update was released the aug 8th tho so if u had the problem before there might be something else going on as well idk removing the push service worked for me tho main battery consumer is screen and android now

Ucheck "Use Wireless Networks"
Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk 4
There may be unintended consequences for unchecking use wireless networks. If I understand correctly, this may interfere with the ability of device locating apps to locate a lost or stolen device. Can anyone confirm?
I'm not sure whats happened but since yesterday Google services is draining my battery, I've not installed any new apps or changed any settings so im a bit miffed as to what's happening.
Anyone else experiencing this on their G2?

Clear the data and cache of google play services and see if that helps :good:
Did you take the recent gmaps update? I had the same experience last week. Rolling back to original gmaps solved it for me.
