[Q] Nexus 4 or T-Mobile Galaxy S 3

I have run into a problem! I LOVE Google and have been waiting for the Nexus 4 to be available. I am due for an upgrade so TMO will sell me the N4 for $200 but the S3 for free. Which one is better for the next two years? Should I dish out $200 and get the Nexus 4? Or should I save my money and stick with the S3 and perhaps get the much awaited S4..

That $200 comes with a huge caveat. You have to pay $15 a month until you pay off the total of $499.99.
$299 or $349 off contract versus $500 "upgrade".
Yeah no thanks T-Mobile

That's only true with some plans, others just have the $200 price (after $50 MIR).
I'm due for an upgrade, too; I'm thinking about buying the N4 from the Play Store and then using the upgrade on a free S3 (through this upcoming sale: http://www.tmonews.com/2012/11/t-mobile-holding-two-day-samsung-sale-on-november-16th-17th/) and selling the S3 to get some/all of the N4's cost back.
I was thinking the same thing!

I was thinking the exact same thing! Except why go through all that trouble when I can keep the SIII..Because when the S4 comes out I can simply sell the SIII for a reasonable price which will help me get the S4 but the N4 is cheap with Google meaning I cant sell it for much cheaper..
S3 is beast but slow with updates and more expensive when buying off contract. Nexus 4 is beastly but not as much as S3 and you will be first for updates plus $329 off contract. Get the Nexus.

The S3 will be free for me with a sale TMO is having next friday though Also the US S3 (the one I am contemplating on getting) is duel-core while the N4 has a much appreciated quad-core CPU so wouldnt that make the N4 superior to the S3?

If s3 was offered for free I see why there is any hesitation. s3 for sure and is no brainer.
I would go with note 2 though if u were to pay 200 for a new phone on a contract.

Note 3 for Full No Commitment Price?

Do you guys think the Note 3 is worth getting at $725? I don't have an upgrade, but am really want to get the Note 3..
That's a super hefty price for just a phone! I don't think it's worth it. Maybe at $500? I'd take it.
lol

It's not just a phone, it's a power house! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2438466
However, its initial price is indeed abusive anyway.
I would suggest waiting a couple of months till prices settle a little.
And if you still think price remains abusive, set you eyes on a Note 2 which is going to be 30/40% cheaper in comparison and it's a GREAT phone ( I have it)
You gonna have 2 choices:
1) Note 3 State-of-the-art phone but quite expensive
or
2) Note 2 an excellent phone nevertheless and way cheaper
:good:
Yes its just not a phone, it is a phablet. But anyways my justification is that I just sold my HTC One and will be selling my S4 for a combined total of 750. So I'm basically trading two phones for one. Also I saw that m4sta2k was going to buy it for $1000!! which makes my purchase alittle bit better. ha.

I dont know about the Note 2 being way cheaper. I remember paying full price last year ($650) and its currently $704 on AT&T's site. I guess its success caused a price increase. I can see it going down a little but not much. I would love to get the Note 3 but I really love my Note 2. Hoping to get the 4.3 update and some other goodies in the update before the end of the year or I just may get the Note 3.

Well, I can only talk about how things go over here ( Holland ) and about sim lock free phones ( no plan/contract)
The Note2 is already around 100 euros cheaper ( 132$) than one year ago costing around 560$ at my favorite webshop
It will get even cheaper after Note3's sales warm up
Anyway I will be visiting NY next month and gonna check some gagdets prices in places such as B&H ...

I can beat that price, but not by much.
T-Mo is selling it for $703.99 full retail.
http://www.t-mobile.com/cell-phones/samsung-galaxy-note-3.html
I know this is an off contract price but I'm not sure it's an unlocked device.
Cheapest UK price I've seen is from Handtec, where I got my Note 2 from when that was released. It's currently 586 then a fiver postage, I'm literally on the site now about to place the order, but reluctant to until I know which variant is gonna see the most community activity, 3G or LTE.
As the the ones listed on, Expansys, Handtec, Clove etc are all LTE, looks like my decision had been made for me but would still love to know what version is gonna sell more.
How tough is to buy a phone without contract (simlock free) in the US ?

You're not beating the price. He meant with tax included. It's $699.99 and you don't have to pay for the SIM with Verizon. Neither phone is unlocked.

That's a rip off to pay that much and your device and not be unlocked.
True you could probably hack around and unlock lock it, but it's the principle.
It does not pay to be first when it comes to electronics.

and a note 3 to get delivered so i can take it to a store and get the lg g flex through buyers remorse
There's a $200 Samy trade in promo.
Does anyone know anything about that? How does it work?
Nice to see everyone getting their pre-orders in. Unfortunately T-Mobile's site wants to keep giving me all kinds of issues when trying to use my JUMP upgrade with this pre-order. Might just have to call or stop by my local store later today to put it on pre-order.
Does anyone know when accessories like the wireless charging cover are supposed to be available for the Note 4?
Samsung Promo terms and mail-in-rebate are now updated!
I think to get the max $200 trade in you have to trade in a note 3 or newer device. Might be worth selling my note 3 instead. But I'm still torn if u want the note 4.

I stopped by my local Tmobile store in Gaithersburg MD and they had a Note 4 demo model there. I was at the end of my lunch break so I didn't have much time to look at it but It is pretty much as advertised with a better resolution and brighter screen. I did a quick comparison with camera and the photo I took with it looked a bit sharper than the equivalent I took with my Note 3. Also they have redone the multiview a bit. It you tap the app in the side bar it opens as a floating window. Very smooth in transitions. Some gesture I did (maybe a swipe from left edge or close) opened flipboard. Although both are advertised as 5.7" is seems like the Note 4 was slightly less wide. It does look good but I'm still on the fence about getting it. I did ask about the trade in and here are the numbers they gave me +- a dollar. I also add what Samsung will add to that although the dealer did not know about the Samsung offer.
model...Tmobile will give + Samsung's contribution= Total
OGN $86 +$114 = $200
GN2 $87 + $113 = $200
GN3 $275 + $0 = $275
I also saw the iphone 6 plus there and I think it actually looks nicer than Note 4 as it has, at least to me, an attractive art deco look to it. It is also quite smooth operating it but I would never buy it for myself. Why? No spen, floating resizable windows or multiview, fedora linux installed, xposed modules, custom roms and other XDA fun to name a few things I would miss if I got it.

To take advantage of the Samsung promo, all you have to do is trade in a working phone worth $10 or more when you preorder a Note 4, send Samsung a copy of preorder and trade in info, and they'll mail you whatever the difference is between your phones trade in value and $200.
Example: Bring in a Galaxy S, get $15 trade in value. Use Samsung promo, and get a $185 check in the mail.

What makes you think that? I don't see anything in the terms about what phone you trade in, except that it must be worth $10 minimum, and you get back the difference between your trade-in value and $200, so a maximum of $190. If I read correctly, I should get $13 from T-Mobile and $187 from Samsung. Sweet deal if it works out.
Lucky for me I still had a working G2x around. Doubly lucky recently regarding phones; offered to take my wife in to T-Mobile to do a Jump upgrade on her iPhone 5, and she declined because she doesn't think the 6 or 6+ will fit in the little phone pocket in her purse.

Thanks for clarification. It also doesn't say it has to be a Samsung phone. I have an old sprint Evo 3d. I wonder if that qualifies.

Just an FYI... because I'm buying the t-mo note 3 to unlock & use on at&t, I was unable to do the trade in promo. Apparently you need to use their service for multiple months for a trade in to be accepted, which would offset the savings because 3 months service is around $140. Bummed about that. Because the salesman took over an hour to straighten this out, they waived the $60 activation cost. I had a $70 Sammy from a pawn shop that would have fetched me about $130 net savings, but oh well.

I think the Samsung promo page specifically says"Smartphones". And the phones should be valued at least $10 by the retailer. As i said above, my nexus 5 is not on the list from T-Mobile hence, its price would be zero, which will not be eligible for a Samsung promotion.
I don't want to trade my Note 3 and would like to maintain it as a backup, hence i looked up the nexus 5. My other option is an old ATT Galaxy S3 (which is actually in their list) for which t mobile puts a price of $ 60.
