WIFI - Issues all over again - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does any one remember the cure for the WIFI issues on previous galaxy handsets it might be a similar issue im seeing on the S5.
When i return home the WIFI doesn't automatically connect it states "Network disconnected. Sign in again" in the pull down then when i click the notification it takes me to the WIFI setting and it states "Sign-in is required" if i click on the network and click connect its all happy again and connects!
Has any one else seen or solved this issue im seeing it on both mine and the Wife's S5 but everything else connects happily without a problem.

Same issue - Alernate FIX -
Had the same issue, tried the resolution of
Step 1 Go to the home screen on your phone.
Step 2 Select the telephone dial pad.
Step 3 Dial *#0011#
Step 4 Press the settings button on phone and select wifi.
Step 5 You should see the safe wifi button on so just press it so it turns off.
Reset connection (forget connection then established connection again) seem to work, but then battery life was horrible. Unfortunately didn't think it was a good trade and turned safe-mode back on. Working fine for awhile, then Network Disconnected alert, days later. So as a fix,
1. >Wifi >Advanced >Disable (uncheck) Smart network switch.
2. Forget connection, then establish connection again. Works no issues.
One of the benefits of the Samsung Galaxy S5 is the battery life, why would I want to sacrifice that and have my battery dead in the late morning, hope this helps.

WiFi is grayed out

Why is my WiFi connection option grayed out? Now I can not activate my WiFi. What caused this and how do I fix this? Thanks for any help you guys can give me on this problem.
bahardman.
you you have the hd2 pluged in to your pc ?
this will stop wifi from working.
Duh!!! that was the problem, thanks Grantzxr.
Ok I have gotten my WiFi connection solved, but now I can not connect to the internet through my WiFi.

I have been having exactly the same problem! Even when the HD2 is not connected to my laptop the Wi-Fi stops being greyed out but does not switch on. The only way is going to Settings - Menu - All Settings - Connections - Wi-Fi and then tick the Turn on Wi-Fi. Wait around a minute until it connects... sometimes
I have the original T-Mobile 1.43 Rom (got my mobile only last week) and on the first two days it worked fine when connecting to my home Wi-Fi. But suddenly it just started doing its own thing. Most of the time I have the Wi-Fi icon showing but if I try and go online I just get an error message asking me to "check my data connection and try again".
The only modification I made was installing some of the wonderfull .cabs tested and tried on the HD2 by tboy2000 and by smaberg. Amazingly, the only one that did not work properly was the Touch X reset and wifi.cab; the Reset was OK but the Wi-Fi Toggle didn't respond. I am going to try and reinstall.
aiwama, let me know if you got it solved, and I will do the same for you.

Well, reinstalled the .cab, but I think that was not the problem. When I press the Wi-Fi Toggle and wait for around 50 to 60 seconds it actually connects - for a while - and then freezes.
If I press the Wi-Fi Toggle again it disconnects from the Internet. I actually went back every single time to check Settings (Wi-Fi box would respond accordingly) and All Settings - Connections - Wi-Fi and (un)ticked Turn on Wi-Fi box. So, the Wi-Fi Toggle works fine. But there's the freezing thing that I don't know where it comes from!
aiwama, I simply shut my phone done completely and then turned it back on after a few seconds, tried it and it worked just fine and its been working ever since. Hope it works for you also.

[Q] Problem with wifi Samsung Galaxy 5 (i5500)

Hi, I've some problem with wifi connections. I own a lynksis wag54g2 wifi router. I can establish a connection, but after some times (it's not standard, it may vary), my device disconnect from the router and it's not able to reconnect. All that i can do is plug off my router (i take off the ac adapter) and when it's up again my phone can connect. it's very frustating, but i don't know what to do? i've tried setting something in wifi preferences' on my phone but nothing change. i've also flashed my firmware to the new one, hoping that it could fix that problem, but it didn't. someone could help me?
you can update the firmware to a newer one. this would fix your problem.

Hello.
I have a problem with WIFI on Galaxy 5 (i5500)(Europa) too. They have already changed my phone with new one, but the issue remains. So, for the second time now, I was able to connect my phone to my router for the first time, but after the first interruption or disconnection of WIFI I could not access to wifi anymore.
When I enable wifi in the phone starts ''connecting'' but then reports ''interrupted'' eventhough the signal is recognised as strong.
Firmwire version is the latest available. Router is encrypted with WPA2. Also I can access to router with my HTC Tattoo (Click).
Does anyone know the solution?
I have a decision to make(today), becouse If there is no solution to this I will change to another phone as I still can (Galaxy Spica).
Advise please.
Thanks a lot
What router do you have? have you tried with any other wifi network? i said that because my have this problem only with my router, and not for example with my girlfriend's one.
I found a little fix for my router, linksys wag54g2: open up the config page (192.168.1.1), go for wireless tab, select protection page and click on save settings. that reload the router and my phone is able to connect again.
Hi.
Thanks for your advice. There is some problem with router.. When I restart router the wifi on the phone works until swiched off or interruption becouse being out of range. When I try to connect to wifi again does not work unless I restart router again. ..catchy.. Interfering with mobile connection also makes the drop of wireless connection on my computer, so I need to restart router. I don't know the permanent solution. If anyone has any idea how repair this forever please let me know.
Best,
Thanks
Hi,
Here is my problem with my wifi with the galaxy 550.
For security reasons, my wifi network can't be detected (invisible). If i want to connect a new device by wifi, I must first set my wifi visible and then register my device.
Then I set my wifi as invisible again and the device can connect automaticaly to my network without "seeing" my wifi network.
Problem is that once i set my wifi as invisible again, my galaxy fail to connect because the network is unvisible.
Is there anyway to fix this ?
I have just read similar post on another thread and replied find it here
I ahvent installed anything, perhaps its to do with the handset if its locked to a particular carrier? just a guess and a question...

I have an answer! Hope it works for you.
My provider gave me really easy solution for wifi connection not connecting even though it was my own network with all the right info. It worked great the first time, then for some reason the phone locked in the "off" position. So I removed the battery to reboot (later learned the right way by pushing the volume button on the left and the power button at the same time)
Anyway, try this....
turn phone off - remove battery - remove sim card - wait a few minutes - reassemble - then the network should log on with no problem.....Good luck!

Wi-fi not working when phone goes to sleep

My galaxy S4 connects to any network flawlessly and I can browse the web, etc. but when I press the power button to lock the phone or if the phone goes to sleep by itself, when I unlock the phone, I'm still connected to the wireless network, but I can't browse the web or do anything. I have to disconnect and reconnect for it to do anything (and sometimes it takes 5 mins. to find the network. it says it's not in range 90% of the time). I've set wi-fi to "always on" during sleep and I've also turned wi-fi power saving mode off in the hidden menu but it still doesn't work. Like I said, it doesn't disconnect but the orange down arrow flashes and I can't browse the web, etc. I actually wiped the phone and the problem went away for a few days but cropped back up yesterday which leads me to believe there must be some bug causing it but I have no idea what triggers it. Does anyone have any ideas on what to do?
Are you running stock rom?

Sounds like what I'm experiencing as well!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2303379
Hey guys,
Just noticed something odd this last few days. The statusbar WiFi icon is dimmed; but I'm connected on WiFi just fine. I can browse, and the WiFi settings is showing all is OK. As in, I'm still connected to my SSID.
Anyone experienced this? What's the best way for me to pull logs? I'm a bit of an Android n00b.
The particular SSID is on a 5GHz AC channel (pretty sure it's on AC, or at the very least N), on TKIP+AES. I've read that the S4 had problems with D-Link routers on TKIP+AES, but I've got an ASUS running DD-WRT. I don't have any other problem with the other devices in the house on WiFi.
Running WanamLite ROM, with FauxKernel 3.
Thanks!

I should clarify,
I'm connected to my router/SSID; but I can't connect to the internet.
But I'm trying out this new solution people have been suggesting.
I created a guest SSID on my router (ASUS RT-AC66U, on ASUS-Merlin firmware), and I pretty much disabled Intranet access on the guest account, and dropped TKIP.
Let's see if the problem will go away.

Unfortunately there's no option for me to create a guest SSID on my netgear router...
i believe this was/is a bug for the SIII. a quick search should bring you to a thread i was flipping through earlier for my girlfriends S3. I noticed it the first day I had my S4 but havent seen it happen since.
Go to your Wi-Fi, press the menu button and click advanced settings, there should be a option to "Keep Wi-Fi on during Sleep" if you want it on select always

The two solutions provided for that bug are to set Wi-Fi to always on during sleep and to turn off the wireless power saving mode in the hidden menu (which can only be accessed by dialing a certain number). Neither of those solutions work.
No go, problem is still very much there for me.
So far I've:
1) Created a guest SSID, with only AES. Problem is still there
2) Loaded a different kernel (albeit a 9505 kernel). Problem is still there.
I'm rooted, running a different kernel and ROM than stock. I'm on Virgin Mobile i337M (Canadian S4). I've unlocked my phone through the Service Menu, I've also enabled my AWS bands, using the QTPS patch. Though I think this is all irrelevant, because theloneranger08 is running an unrooted phone.
So something must've cause the WiFi sleep issue.
EDIT:
What's the best way to go about logging the issue here? I'm a total Logcat newbie. I managed to set it up on my Mac; but not sure what sort of logging I should be doing. Cheers!

Yeah I can't seem to get it fixed. I actually decided to call AT&T and they are sending me a new phone along with the necessary supplies to send my current one back. Hopefully it's a hardware issue and the new phone is fine. Although the fact that it worked for two weeks with no problems and wiping it got rid of the problem for a couple days leads me to believe it must be some bug in the software. Granted, I haven't come across hardly anyone (besides the people on this thread) with this issue so hopefully it is hardware related. I'll be so ticked if the new phone does the same thing...
I got a new phone and I didn't have any issues for a few days but now it's back. Anyone have any ideas?

Kinda impossible for two phones to have the same exact issue. Which lead me to believe this is a software bug.
Can you verify if you have "Check for Internet service" enabled, on Advance WiFi settings (Settings > WiFi > (tap menu) > Advance).
I restored my phone a few days ago, wiped it clean. I decided not to use this feature (it's off by default; but I had it on when I first encountered this issue), and I have yet to see the problem we had. I spoke to a friend who's a network engineer, it could be due to timeouts to the cell towers, whilst checking internet connection periodically, etc. etc.

No it's turned off. I've tried everything but I just can't find a fix. Is there anyway to somehow log the phone and see what runs when I put the phone to sleep? Is it possible that it's an app doing it?

If you're still having this issue, can you check into your Accounts setting? See if there's any sync error.
I had no problem for a few weeks after restoring my phone to factory setting. Then two days ago, the issue re-appear. The last thing I did was adding a new Google account (secondary account, for work). That's when the WiFi problem started appearing again. Then I noticed the sync issue on the newly added account, I had to uncheck certain options, and check them back again. Since then, the issue hasn't re-appear *crossing my fingers*
Way back in the day, I remember that WiFi indicators would look different if you have WiFi with internet access, but not connected to Google accounts (or have issues).
I know this is different than what we initially talked about; but I guess we're eliminating possibilities.

[Q] Galaxy S4 Wifi Issues

Hello,
I've already searched the forum for an answer but I've been unable to find any solution.
I have a GT-i9505 Galaxy S4 with Omega ROM. I though flashing a new rom will help me but it's the same.
Everytime I walk away from my router, it automatically sets the wifi as "Network disabled because internet connection is slow" and won't connect again. I have to manually click connect to force it to connect it. Also, when I'm in my University, it keeps disconnecting for the same.
How can I avoid this and force it to stay connected? Do I need to flash some custom modem or something?
Thanks

TRY THESE STEPS
1) Settings => Connections and tap Wi-Fi. Then tap Menu and make sure Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep is set to Always.
2) Turn off Wi-Fi power save mode on your S4. Type *#0011# on the phone dialer, then Menu => Wi-Fi and turn Wi-Fi power save mode to Off. (WORKED FOR ME)
3) Or change your router settings to 802.11 model
Galaxy S4 wifi non-connection/drop out NEW FIX
Had a problem for ages with my S4 not connecting to wifi and therefore no internet, no updates etc. My router is a Netcomm NB6Plus4Wn but this may work with most routers.
It would constantly go through the authentication, secured/saved cycle but rarely actually got an ip address.
After trial and error I found this worked straight away and it is a very easy fix.
Go to your router settings page, then wireless settings, look for Primary Channel setting.
There may be a (Lower/Upper selection) - tick the LOWER radio button and apply changes. Let router reboot.
Note I also use WPA/TKIP settings for security.
Test your S4.
Mine was set to Upper Primary Channel previously and as soon as I changed that setting to Lower Channel wifi and internet worked immediately.
I hope this helps some people with this common problem as I know how frustrating it can be.
Cheers
wifi verification problem
galaxy s4 GT-I9500 running pac-man rom. just started getting verification problem connecting to my linksys router one foot from my phone.
did the following on my phone: settings, Wi-Fi, settings, wps pin entry, msg reads " enter pin xxxxxxxxxx on your Wi-Fi router." where xxxxxxxxx is a number.
logged on to my router, clicked on Wi-Fi tab, under Wi-Fi protected setup, it asked me to enter the wps pin number from my phone. I did and after a minute or so, it indicated success and now my phone connects to Wi-Fi
weird. my phone connected for months without this procedure but just started failing today. thanks to the one who suggested checking the router setup.

I recently ran into the same problem and my wi-fi button wouldn't come on no matter what I did. Finally, I took the phone to Best buy as the now have a Samsung store there and the guy reflashed my phone with the 4.3 update free of charge and it worked. When I got home I rooted over my phone and now my wifi works fine. Hope this helps.

I do not have the issue, but maybe you can try this.
1. Open phone dialer (Phone App)
2. Dial *#0011#
3. The ServiceMode screen will be open. When it is open. Tap on menu button on top right.
4. Select "WiFi"
5. Find "WiFi Power Save Mode"
6. Press the "ON" button to turn the "WiFi Power Save Mode" off. (It will show as "OFF" if it is off)
7. Your WiFi will be off and on again.
8. Try to reconnect to the Wifi.

You haven't got smart network switch turned on? (under WiFI settings) it'll do that if it thinks you WiFI connection isn't stable.

Set Google public DNS in your router
Ok i just found out its only doing it at home, i tried wifi and my work and it works perfectly doesnt disconnect and connect, but at home it does, though it never did it before and i didnt change or do anything to my router or my phone which i find very strange.
thanks for the help guys i appreciate it a lot, does anyone know what i can do?
have you found a fix to this yet? I'm having the same issue and getting ready to just return the phone and buy something else. My home network is fine, the other tablets, phones, laptops are having 0 issues, Yet my GS5 is either dropping or something, it seems to run horrible slow and things just time out.

No, and the reason that we don't know is that you didn't provide any useful details about your situation.
If you think that someone can do more than make a random guess implies that you think that there are only one or two possible causes. But most issues, including this one, have hundreds of possible causes. So random guesses are not terribly useful. Nor are we psychic, so the only way to efficiently narrow it down is to look for anomolies in your configuration. Which you haven't described.
You should be providing as much technical detail as possible, e.g. what is your home router model & it's firmware version and configuration details, phone firmware version, any specific error messages, any observed pattern, a logcat if you can and anything else that seems relevant.

Have you tried changing the channel on your router?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
Change the router channel
Change the router SSID
Default the router comfiguration
Change the router operating mode
Update the router firmware
Move the router to a different location
Use a different router
Unplug your neighbours new 50,000 watt pirate radio station
Update your phone firmware
Buy a different phone
Sacrifice a piece of triple chocolate gnocche cake to the pagan God of chocolate and wifi
All random guesses with roughly equivalent (and small) chances of success.
Or one could try troubleshooting the issue methodically.

Hey guys,
I had this problem before, This is an issue with your samsung device and your ISP. They aren't compatible with each other.
Solution:
You must just block clients3.google.com in your modem/router. You can use Block Web Sites section in your modem/router.
Every thing has a solution.
Enjoy your device WIFI.

I have teh same issue on my S5 Cricket. The WIFI does NOT disconnect. Its connected however I don't have internet connection. Turning the WIFI on and OFF fixes the issue, for a short while until it happens again in an hour. Sometimes I slick on a link and wait and wait just to find out the darn WIFI is not connected to the internet. (probably not even connected to my router properly eg, I cant see my laptop shared drives for example).
This has something to do with saving battery or somthing. WIFI internals shut down, even though the icon on top of the screen still shows I'm connected.

Your phone thinks that your WiFi is unstable and dumps the connection to go back to 4g. Why exactly, who knows, but it's easy to turn off the "smart" network switch. Simply hold down the WiFi icon for 2 seconds to get into the connections section. Right there at the top is the smart network switch section ... just uncheck the selection box. Easy.
Lastly, people like fffft need to get over themselves. The fix for the original poster's question was easy, but since fffft didn't know it, he decided to instead attack in order to make himself feel superior. How sad and pathetic does someone have to be to troll forums looking for opportunities to attack and belittle someone else?

I do not have the issue, but maybe you can try this.
1. Open phone dialer (Phone App)
2. Dial *#0011#
3. The ServiceMode screen will be open. When it is open. Tap on menu button on top right.
4. Select "WiFi"
5. Find "WiFi Power Save Mode"
6. Press the "ON" button to turn the "WiFi Power Save Mode" off. (It will show as "OFF" if it is off)
7. Your WiFi will be off and on again.
8. Try to reconnect to the Wifi.

The issue is resolved simply by going to the advanced settings in Wifi and disabling 'Always allow scanning'.
Hope this helps.
same issue with my s5

I had the same issue. I just tried the suggestion, turning of smart network switch in the wifi-advanced menu. Seems to be working so far!
Thanks!
Well I know that Smart Network is turning off wifi.. problem is that i have a fiber at home!! So what kind of problem smart network finds on my broadband?? ?
solution to wifi disconnect problem
I was looking for an answer to a different wi-fi question when I saw this.
I'm on AT&T with my S5.
Under the Wi-Fi settings I have an option for "Smart Network Switch" which says it Automatically switches between Wi-Fi and mobile networks to maintain a stable internet connection. Anytime a computer says it automatically does something for me; I typically say no thanks. I don't typically like my devices making assumptions of what I like, don't like or want to do. So I have that option unchecked. I never have an issue with the network stability once I've connected to a specific wi-fi connection.
Not sure if that will help you all or not. But thought I'd share.
so under Settings --> Quick Settings --> Wi-Fi you will find a check box option named "Smart network switch", untick it, this should take care of the problem.
leon.
Same problem
Hi, I have the same problem. Here some info:
- Device: Samsung Galaxy S5 (SM-G900F), Stock, not rooted
- Android version: 5.0
- Kernel version: 3.4.0-5640614 (2015-09-01)
- 'Smart network switch' is turned off
- 'Always allow scanning' is disabled
The problem started 2-3 days ago. When I turn on WiFi/WLAN the phone constantly turns it back off and on again. Didn't happen before, didn't change anything on the router (I have no access to it ) and didn't install a new app (as far as I can remember). I don't know if it only happens on this access point.
I made a log file (adb logcat) but am not sure if it contains sensitive information, is it save to share online?
The logcat doesn't contain any sensitive passwords.

I'm have the exact same problem.
Samsung Galaxy S5 (SM-G900T)
CyanogenMod (13.0-20151203)
Android 6.0 (Marshmallow)
Baseband (G900TUVU1ANE6)
Smart network switch: disabled
Always allow scanning: disabled
What's happening is as soon as my Wi-Fi finishes authenticating and connects, it is immediately disconnected and tries again. No other devices in my house are having any issues, so that eliminates the router. When I factory reset my phone the Wi-Fi begins to work again, so that eliminates my phones hardware. The confusing part is that I installed a bunch of apps such as AdGuard that could possibly cause an issue but everything worked and this started out of nowhere. Also, I factory reset my phone AGAIN and AGAIN, everything worked and out of nowhere while I was looking at my screen while idling, I watched as the Wi-Fi connection dropped and began the disconnect/reconnect loop...
I'm assuming it has to be a software issue because it only started when I updated to a newer Cyanogen. I'm about to test if other Wi-Fi networks have this problem and I'm also going to look through and post a log.
If anyone has any questions or suggestions that may lead to a fix, PLEASE help!
Thanks
Well I factory reset again, this time wiping the internal storage and everything is now fine. I did look at my logcat and there were Wi-Fi errors but I forgot to post them...
