Hello.
Well i thought i had a fairly good idea about rooting mods and bloatware. I was wrong. The more i read the more i find myself unsure of what i should do. I belive this is a lack of experiance and ability to understand the information i am reading. I have no doubt that everything i need to know is readily available on these forums. But I am feeling pretty gunshy.
So I am wondering for the most part what is the best way to get rid of the bloatware on my telus S5. What is safe to get rid of and what isnt. I have a feeling the best way to do this is to flash a rom. I have decided i would try the alliance rom found in a thread hear :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2716535&page=19 Is this a viable rom for my phone 900W8. Will this take care of most of the bloatware? Is there any steps other then 1:root 2:flash rom? these are the parts i am finding unclear. sorry for the noobishness. I have read almost everything i can find about the whole procedure but find myself confused. I have used odin before on my old S2X but surely havent used it for a very long time.
Thanks for reading and any help would be greatly appreciated. Have been a member hear since i rooted the s2x and the community is great.
Cheers

Hi - what instructions did you follow to root it and can you please provide a link to the rom you're using?
I'm very interested in doing this to my telus s5 as well - but I find the S5 sections on XDA to be far more disjointed than for other phones I've done this to in past years so I don't want to follow the wrong instructions or flash an incompatible rom.
please post a link to the rooting instructions that worked for your telus S5 and to the rom you found that runs on your telus S5
thanks so much!
Cheers
I used twrp for recovery and did a Google search for the guide I found. I forget where it was but will look and report back. I have had the best luck on omega rom. Having said that I have tryed them all and they where all good. Omega just worked best for me. As for kernels I liked the arkenstone. I am currently on blaze v8 and letting it settle in to test battery. Sorry for dished answer my kids are keeping me busy but if you pm mei will go do some searching.

Using Phoenix and blaze v9! Amazing. As for rooting, everything works. Just look for W8

Basically said it in the title. I have an Orange branded SIII (Orange splash screens) and would like to know if I can install a stock SIII ROM on it. I ask because:
A) The idea of having an Orange branded one irritates me (got it cheap on ebay)
B) Carrier-branded handsets get Android updates later (would this even help with that?)
If it is possible, could somebody provide me with a guide to finding the correct ROM and installing it? My phone is rooted with CWM.
Thanks
Hi I'd also like to know this but I'm not to keen on rooting just yet I just want to get away from bloatware and hope I can finally get Swapables working.
Cheers.

Yes. Just download the stock ROM you want (either using the files posted here or CheckFUS, which I find is faster) and flash it with Odin
There are already threads about this.

Sorry I did search but couldn't find anything.
I only asked as on the site I got the stock ROM from said not to flash to branded devices.
I'll give it a go anyway as I now know how to unbrick due to XDA.
I'll keep hunting.

Stock roms post flash stock rom for your location or as near a match to your current firmware version . No details given so no idea what it could be .

Root will be removed on flashing stock rom re root .

yes you can. but why not flash the latest LF6 ROM? it is the best one
So flashing from a branded ROM to an unbranded one will work fine?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
There are no hardware differences, only customizations in the ROM.
So yes, it will work just fine.
Sorry I meant firmware. Or, are roms and firmware the same thing?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Thats a tricky one to answer.
Firmware is a little more all encompassing than rom normally, usually not just including operating system but also baseband/modem software.
Generally speaking they are the same thing though.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
But if I flashed from BVALE4 to XXALF2 (or any stock, unbranded firmware) it will work fine, yeah?

Was thinking of using this guide to accomplish this since I want something diferent...But I've read there has been several different changes and ROMS and wanted to get people's advice on what to do?
Well since I am a new user I cannot post links but if someone wants to see what I found I guess I can PM you...The guide was found on Techno Buffalo site
Thanks
Flash a play edition rom. Done. No need for thread or links.

question is can you flash a play edition rom on the north american S4 1337M
i read through the guide and it talks about i9505 international version
i am already on touchwiz 4.3 telcel mexico rom SGH-I337 could still switch to Google edition? if yes could someone provide link? THANKS IN ADVANCE
1. Why is this in themes and apps? Its all redundant anyway but in far wrong section
2. Flash any aosp/aokp ROM. Same thing. Read these forums, there's an actual play edition ROM, FOR THE I337! Read the thread and it'll say if its compatible
I even got the link for the lazy. Read the OP.

Yeah, thats what I meant. Gonna wait in general until the rom variants are sorted, who knows maybe there will even be a way to root without trip.
Hey guys. I got a notification about a software update for my Rogers G900W8.
Was wondering if I should apply this update and would it affect root?
Sent from my SM-G900W8 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I made a post about this the next day the S5 was lunch. Rooting wasn't an issue for me as for flashing ROMS, some are compatible here, just need to ask them first. I'm wondering if we'll get our forum as well.

I would think most roms would work, I'm just wondering about our modem and baseband. Is it just a matter of flashing our modems to ensure lte function.

Meh, I didn't think about that =/. I guess you get no signals if modem/baseball aren't compatible. Is there a link to get our modem/baseband?
On the Note 3 N900w8 users got lucky, they could downgrade to JellyBean and back to Kitkat without issues, could root (on JB) without tripping KNOX and can pretty much flash ANY international ROM on their device (in this case the N9005 ROMs, N900T ROMs etc) -- IT is possible, now I use this term very very loosely that you *may* be able to flash a whole lot more than w8 only ROMs.
So before I go any further I would just like to quickly note that I have tried to do some research on this question before posting it and have came up empty handed.
Now for the question: My Samsung Galaxy S4 SGH-I337 updated to NC1 the night that the update was released and I was wondering how I could currently achieve root on NC1?
Specs:
Model: Samsung SGH-I337
Android Version: 4.4.2
Baseband: I337UCUFNC1
Currently running 100% stock and would like root.
Thanks in advance for any and all help!

The same way you root NB1. This has been asked, you proceed with the downgrade as normal. It may help to go to NB1 first and then MK2.

I'm not exactly sure who you're calling a "noob", but if I would like to make a new thread that someone has already asked then I will damn sure do as I please. I appreciate your link in your first reply but the word noob isn't exactly a friendly one and some people take offense to it whether or not it is intended to do so.

At one point we all were and called ourselves like that. What bothers is that we see the same questions on new threads over and over. A forum was design to read and search. Once you don't find your answer you post a new thread. Some moderators will suggest the same to avoid clogged our forum. That's how we should treated and care for. I don't feel it's offensive and if it is apologize to those who feel that way.

I remember when I had my GS3 I had to flash stock 4.3 (which if I'm not mistaken still has a locked bootloader) and then I flashed a custom stock 4.1 rom and was able to flash the latest CM 11 plus a modem/bootloader combo zip from 4.3 and it worked fine. Is that even in the realm of possibilities with the GS4?

I had the GS3 also and it was great you could flash anything Ubuntu and more, but now AT&T tied our hands because the war it's having with Samsung we pay. Others phones like the HTC it's reported to be bootloader unlocked. You can flash cm 11 without any problem.
