[Q] Lg G2 Mobile Hotspot apk help - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was trying to return my mobile hotspot back to stock to get ready for the KitKat release - I somehow stumbled upon a thread where someone posted stock files of the mobilehotspot.apk and odex....I took these and inserted them into my system apps file. Only...I remembered the changes I made to bypass the provision check was to the hotspotprovision.apk. So, now my phone has the mobilehotspot.apk in the system apps folder, but the system doesn't seem to recognize it, ie, not in the system apps, can't do anything with it. Any help for me? I tried factory reset, and all I did was delete all of my personal data, the state of those apps did not improve!

[Q] Mynet.apk problems

*Update*
n00b 1 - mynet.apk 0
Maybe I can help some other folks with what I have found out today.
The problem I was running into is that I was downloading the wrong mynet.apk from chadhaney.com
I was needing the .516 files not the .604 files that are listed on that page. Go to the top left of the page and look for the "Get 1.113.516 default files here"
Give it a try and maybe it will fix your 3G Mobile Hotspot problem too.
Hello all.
I am a total n00b to this whole rooting deal. I had been waiting for an extremely easy way to root. I found z4root for download on the market and boom I was rooted. So I immediately went to removing crapware. THEN I decided to do some reading after I removed the stuff and decided to reinstall and rename.
I had zero trouble with anything except mynet.apk.
I have downloaded it from a couple of different places, no dice.
So I am hoping that someone would be nice and kind enough to help a dumbazz noob out with a complete walk-thru of how to reinstall this to my phone, I will beg if that is what it takes.
Thanks,
Brent

just put it in the system/app folder. use Root Explorer app to make sure the permissions are the same as your other apk's. then reboot phone.
here a link to the stock droid x apk's http://www.chadhaney.com/droidXDefault/
I still have yet to try to fix this problem past what I first tried.
My question now is what makes mynet.apk any different than the blockbuster.apk? Why the permissions need to be changed for this and none of the others.

you might not need to. i just mentioned it to make sure.
With the other apk's I just put them on my sdcard and used astro and it very simply installed with no trouble. Mynet.apk goes thru the same process but ends with it saying ''application not installed''
Ok I broke down and bought root explorer. I placed the apk in the system/app folder and changed the permissions to match up exactly with the other apk's.
But I still can not get this to install. What to try next?

cannot install anything off of android market...

kindle fire is rooted and i'm using com.android.vending_2.2.6.apk as Vending.apk did not work for me.
any apk i try to install gives me a force close. i've tried clearing the cache and data as well as uninstalling and reinstalling the apk and still cannot get a single app to install through android market.
what else can i try?
thank you

As in Market version 2.2.6? Try finding com.amarket.apk. You want the latest market, version 3.3.11. It's linked to in a few places. Check the dev fourm. I just pointed someone else to thread with something like "Android Market..WTF" that had it posted.
*Edit* and looking at that other post, it was you who I was responding to. lol

installed 3.3.11 and i still get force close on installing apps...
any other ideas?
i appreciate you're help. i'm still quite new to this...do you know anything that might cause my fire t o get stuck in landscape mode? there are a couple screens that only display in portrait (battery usage and the boot screen for entering my password), but otherwise i am stuck in landscape mode and cannot find anything ot change this.

Hm, the last thing I can think of is your permissions. Make sure they are set
rw-
r--
r--
after copying the .apk to /system/app and prior to installing it (ditto on the googleservicesframework.apk). After that, I'm sorry to say I can't be of much further help.
Make sure you clear cache and Data as well on the app. Makes a difference.
forgive the noob question, but once the apk's are copied to the system/app directory, do they keep the same file name? i've copied over both the market app and the google services app and now do not see them listed in the app folder.
thank you for your patience.
hold on; i am making some progress...
please do not reply in the off chance i can figure this out and learn my way through.
thank you again for being patient.
i've gotten the apk's copied over, but under permissions there's also an execute column. do i uncheck those variables to get the
rw-
r--
r--
you mention?

*Edit* Just saw your post so I'm removing my instructions so you have a shot to figure it out. Yes, use the above settings I posted. And after you set them, back out and then go back in and make sure they've stuck.

is that how you would manually install all apk's? meaning would you copy and paste them into the system/app directory and then change their permissions identically?

No, only if you're trying to make them a system app. Technically, you don't have to install them at all once they're in /system/app. At boot the system will allow anything in that folder to run.
The reason it's a good idea to install the google related stuff is because it will then add them to /data/app (I beleive). Allowing you to keep functionality after OTA system updates. With the newst version 6.2 I did not have to re-install any of my google apps, including the Market, and have yet to run into any issues.
Normally, you would just need to click on an .apk to install it (doesn't matter where it's at). The trick is to get them onto your KF someway (USB, dropbox, email) in order to sideload them.
i've been using usb to get apk's onto my fire. i was then just clicking them in the folder i had placed them in to install them. i've only installed a few, but adroid market was one that definitely never worked after install. right now i've got it copied over per your instructions but cannot verify it works as i cannot get it to log into my goggle account...not sure why. amazon connection works fine.
thank you again for your help.
you have done it.
after rebooting i was able to get my account to log into android market and the very first app i tried to installed worked without a problem.
thank you most kindly.
now to focus on the display being stuck in landscape...

Awesome! Glad you got it working. Sorry, can't help with the landscape thing. Good luck!
landscape was a standard setting on the main screen...gear widget/lock/unlock...such a noob.
That's ok. I was just looking at this thread regarding the landscape lock and found out the same thing. Got set inadvertently by the infamous "somebody".

[Q] Disable Automatic Update on LG G2 Stock

Whenever LG releases new update on LG G2, the phone starts downloading the update without user's consent. At times there are users who do not wish to update and do not want to have 100s of MBs downloaded.
LG G Flex has an option to disable automatic update, but LG G2 doesn't have it.
I'm working on disabling it and would appreciate any input or suggestion.

If you have rooted your phone, you can install titanium backup and search for "lgota" in the app list, then freeze the app shown.

...or you can do this.
If rooted, use a file manager like Root Explorer, go to System/Etc/Security, (mount R/W) and rename otacerts.zip to otacerts.zip.bak
Reboot phone and you'll be fine.

ls995 is not G2 right?
but i think installing some app like titanium and freezing an app called "lgupdate" or "lgupdate service" (or even "lgfota" ) will help with this on any LG (can't remember the exact name since i've removed it a long time ago)

You can try this (thank's @autoprime)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/development/psa-stop-taking-ota-updates-update-t2909412
(see How-To Block and Remove OTA Updates section):

Open LG Hidden Menu (3845#*851#) --> WLAN Test --> OTA Setting --> Disable
*Replace "851" with your devices model number, 850, 852, 855 etc.
OR you can use a RootExplorer-type app to find the OTA related APK and rename the file to ____.apk.bak or use Titanium Backup to freeze.
Verizon users: Click HERE to read about getting the HiddenMenu working. LG Hidden Menu --> Wi-Fi setting -LG --> OTA Setting --> Disable
Due to not actually having this menu by default.. the safest way to disable OTA may be to delete or rename the APK files related to OTA.
Sprint users: 5689#*990# but the HiddenMenu is most likely limited. Use the adb commands below instead.
If HiddenMenu view has been limited you can use the command below to bring up the OTA disable menu.
Code:
Code:
adb shell
su
am start com.lge.hiddenmenu/.wlan_service.wifi_ota_buttons
Remove OTA Update(and notification)
If an OTA notification is on your device you most likely already have the OTA file on your phone. If rooted, you can remove the OTA files and get rid of that annoying notification.
Updates are found in the /cache/ folder on your phone. Using a RootExplorer-type app(or ES File Explorer) browse to the root of your phone(NOT the root of your internal storage, /sdcard/, but the actual phone). If using ES File Explorer you may have to use the "show hidden files" option and grant the app root. You will see the update .zip file in cache if you did everything correctly. If no one has already uploaded the OTA zip.. copy the update to your sdcard and then upload for everyone else. Now delete the zip file from /cache/.
Deleting the file in /cache/ will get rid of the OTA but will not get rid of the notification. To get rid of notification:
1. Pull the notification shade down on your phone
2. Long press on the OTA notification until you see the App Info option pop up.
3. Click App Info and uncheck the Show Notifications box.

Can anyone guide me how to update it to kitkat MANUALLY. i have LS995 running on 4.2.2

Problem solved... i threw my phone on the wall...

Broke settings.

So i installed the samsung s5 lockscreen, or at least attempted to, I never realized you needed to flash in recovery. First I backed my files up. Then with the zip all I did was copy the files down to system in EZ Explorer, when I found out that my settings.apk went missing and the home button didnt work(or the lockscreen) I tried to restore my files, I restart my phone but no change still no settings and home button doesnt interact at all. (Stock S4 with Root)
(Also I cannot install apps anymore) Any help greatly appreciated!
I think you can solve this by Android development bridge (adb). In a few words, this is a way you can modify your internal memory from your ?. So, you have to push all backup.
If you don't know how to use it, in this page there are a lot of helpful post.

Sorry the app creates a backup, or do I need to have a previously installed backup?
Messed up even further!
Guys I tried to factory reset hoping to fix the problem, but as the config window opens up, I'm flooded with errors. My question is should I just install a ROM and hope that fixes it, or just go to my provider and go by the warranty?(Root I used is towelroot, so it should be gone after FR, so the warranty should still be good.)
Found a fix!
I did what it says here, works perfect except for wifi(Other then that its great)

if you got it from APK Mirror, you downloaded a corrupt file. The newest file is corrupt.
Try this Samsung Account file.

Use Root Explorer and overwrite the old Samsung account with this one. The. Fix the permissions. Look at the screenshots.
Also how big is your enhanced features apk.
Also which rom are you on? You may want to update to a new rom?

Different color because I customized it. see if you can access the system folder.

If i hard reset my phone and create a new account from the start up, would it fix my "Processing Failed" problem? Or just a waste of time and effort?
I'm having the same problem. For no reason I can't log in anymore since today.
