I don't want GPS on all the time but I want location on. If I turn on location and select power saving (wifi and network only) then turn off GPS, location gets turned off. Can someone check if it happens on to them?
I'm on a Samsung GS4 running Golden eye 28

Hey guys, I have a slightly related issue.
My device just won't turn its Wi-Fi off when it goes to sleep! I've tried both the advanced settings of, while plugged in and never, and both are not working add evidenced by the battery graphs.
Any fix or solutions?
- As of now I've taken my device out of its flip case/stand, assuming that the magnet in it has something to do with the Wi-Fi remaining on.
Update - ^ did not work.

OK simple answer if u dont manually turn it off it is not suppose to turn off on its own (if it did it would be wrong).
You are selecting
1.While plugged in
2.Never
Both suggest are telling your tablet not to turn off the wifi (only make it go sleep when screen is off and dont go to sleep when the tab is charging).
I am guessing now you are talking about wifi sleep not turning it off. If i am correct then trust me wifi is sleeping dont pay attention to the battery stats.
and if you want to make wifi turn off then use some 3rd party app that turn off wifi auto or just manually turn off the wifi when not using.
P.S: Only ask questions in Q&A section.
Good Luck.
I have a 2013 Nexus 7 32GB and turned off "scanning always available" option (let Google's location service and other apps scan for networks, even when Wi-Fi is off) and set "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleeping" to never.
The table should not turn wireless off and on during sleeping, right?
Look at the attachement and the power meter shows that wifi turned off and on while the screen was turned off.
I didn't have this problem with 2012 Nexus 7.
Is this a bug with 2013 Nexus 7?

Other apps can turn on WiFi. Maybe its an installed app?
I had a similar problem and used Greenify to hibernate several apps. That solved it for me.

Try turning off wifi optimization. That's how mine is configured with the rest identical and wifi shows solid.
tried the above but still didn't work. I'll try wakelock detector and upload screenshots.
Do you have wifi set to stay on or off during sleep? I notice it takes a good few seconds to reconnect to wifi upon wake. Does data also stay on while the phone is asleep? In that case will keeping wifi on during sleep save more battery compared to just data alone? Thoughts?
I don't know how to override this without tasker or juice defender

I keep GPS and location services off. I disable carrier IQ on startup. However, system is my biggest battery drain, and it shows GPS being on all the time. How do I make this phone keep its idiotic GPS off? And does anyone else have this issue?

Try to reboot the phone and immediately disable CIQ when it boots up.
I already do that. It doesn't make a difference. The GPS logo isn't lit up in the quick toggles either, so I have no clue what's turning it on.

Today over the course of 5 hours, in standby/battery saver mode, data off, WiFi off, GPS off, everything off, it drained to 84%. Normally it drains to 98%. GPS is still using the most when IT IS OFF. This is ridiculous.

Notification toggle does not turn off GPS function completely. Hold for advanced settings and you will see. With other settings on, it can still be "pinged" showing ghost stats. There are more "GPS" functions than just that actual hardware. Think Wi-Fi and Google / mobile network.
I keep location access off completely. I said that in the OP. Why is it everyone keeps telling me to do what I said in the OP I already do?

Because apparently something is accessing your GPS. The sensor wouldn't pop otherwise. I have 0 issue with this.
On my older phones I always left GPS off, unless navigating - as GPS was a big power drain. For everything else I would just have it using the wifi/mobile networks (yelp, facebook, checkin's ect.)
I see the S5 has new options - High accuracy (gps, wifi + mobile), Power savings (wifi + mobile), and GPS only. Does the GPS not drain as much anymore and it may be worth keeping on all the time? Or do I keep toggleing between accurate and power saving each time I use the GPS (seems like alot of changing, maybe tasker would help)?
I don't have Galaxy S5, but on my Nexus 4, I have following setup.
I have installed Tasker and Secure Settings. I have created profile to switch on high accuracy GPS only when apps need exact location. Other times, my battery saving option is turned on.
So I don't have as much battery drain. But yes, this has been a change in 4.4.2.

I always leave my GPS on in high accuracy mode and I don't think it kills the battery as much
