Does turning off fsync make a noticeable real-world performance difference? I know it brings faster app installs and such, but does it also make a difference in everyday usage?

Kind of risky... checkout this thread...

Rgrds,
Ged.
I am aware of the risk, thanks. So I am wondering if the risk is worth the potential benefit.

After flashing I always Fsync off (understanding the risk).
I don't do this for a higher Quad score but to have somewhat faster web loading.
(just my 10 Yens worth - ymmv)

Well... I've just tested... disabled Fsync using TricksterMod... and 'Set On Boot'.
Upon reboot, I noticed a very marginal speed benefit... but not enough in my opinion to justify the risk.
----
There are no objective answers here... you'll have to try it for yourself, I'm afraid.
Good luck.
Rgrds,
Ged.
Well, I have tested of course too, but not sure if the speed gains I have observed are real or placebo. Does anybody know if disabling sync requires reboot?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Do not need to reboot. Just try it, for me it made the horrible io lag the nexus 7 has less noticeable when doing heavy io like downloading apps or flipboard, things like that.
I went from stock kernel to Franco and didn't see a huge improvement until I disabled fsync. Now my experience is much nicer. Faster wake from sleep, less io lag, overall less lag.

Give it a try and find out. (If you are one of those folks that OC's and isn't concerned about kernel crashes, make a backup before you begin)
The writes have to happen eventually. (Hopefully before a kernel crash or freeze!)
The point is that it's not something that gives you something for free - it merely moves sluggishness from one point in time to another. I suppose it also means that it (transiently) uses more RAM for caching of dirty pages that have pending writes.
good luck
I remember back when I had a Galaxy Nexus that it was possible to not only overclock it's CPU and GPU but also its memory. Now this got me thinking that since the Nexus 10 has a less than ideal amount of memory due to it's high screen resolution, maybe overclocking its memory might help performance and multitasking.
Now the question is.... is this possible to do?
If I can remember correctly some of the custom kernels have memory controls. KTmanta comes to mind. I think you may need the kernels control app to get at those settings. Also I'm using Tempest ROM an OMNI ROM variant and it includes numerous memory settings which may be what you are looking for.
You would need to enable developer mode then Settings->Performance, settings select "tabbed mode" then select the "memory" tab.
I've never messed with those settings myself but they are there for your amusement.

Maybe try this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1719934
But of course depends on what kernel you are running, haven't used it on my n10 but works amazing on most my other devices

KT has memory frequency exposed and I think that is the only one. That being said, no matter what settings I try on KT, Trinity 10 outbenchmarks it with mostly stock settings. That suggests to me you should probably look for a different way to improve your RAM performance, i.e. minfree values.

For you What is best app for Battery saving? Sorry for my English
Sent from my GT-N7100 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Power saving mode of n2 with greenify. If you want best battery be on 4.1.2 rom with perseus kernel. Unmatched combo
greenify
Im using greenify too.. it works with 4.4.2 too..
It's worth trying xposed receiver stop and boot manager with greenify as well

Greenify is great
Sent from my GT-N7100 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
my theory is to don't use power saving apps, I use the built -in power saver, automatic screen brightness, when I exit an app or game I remove it from the recent list, if im in a place with no signal I turn airplane mode on. If I dont need internet I turn off the wifi/data.
power saving mode is great always.. give a try to DU battery saver if u are not rooted. It works pretty well for. Add the cleaner widgte to your screen which helps clearing the RAM with a tap..
Greenify Donation. Its worth it. I don't care what ROM it is battery life is great as long as I wipe internal SD before flash

Greenify, without a doubt a benchmark of battery saving applications.

Hey,
are there any proofs that Greenify increases battery life? Any benchamarks? Comparisions?
Or just illusion?
Like apps to increasing performance, they are ruining it. (i will reccomend here LagFix app

Why don't you try using it and see for yourself. There's nothing better than doing it for yourself rather than relying on somebody else, no?
Benchmark you are referring to is some what, stupid. I am pertaining to a benchmark which elevates the standard of battery saving or performance enhancing.

I did, and to be honest i did'nt noticed the difference, maybe it's just me.
It's not stupid, there's a way to do that.
Greenify should share theirs results to public, if they saying it will increase your battery then prove it! Show me the results. Im that kind of person.
Take care

Yeah, why not? It's giving you some reference point.
One option is to install a good kernel for your ROM and configures it to consume little energy (UV)

Undervolting is still controversial. I used to do the same but also tried stock settings and have even or better battery life.

greenify
greenify is the best battery saving app plus you need to remove unwanted apps cz they may be eating battery..mobile data eats battery no one can help you there it's always better to use wifi when it's available..
First of all I would recommend to change the kernel. If you're on version 4.3 or lower Pegasus Kernel provides the best ratio between performance and battery drain.
It's much better than using a task killer.
I tried both, but any task killer isn't quite comfortable, because it closes tasks you may need. And also white listing isn't always an option. Nevertheless you'll have performance lags as soon as the cache is cleaned. Any app has to reload its processes anew.
I would like to know if someone that is running stock ROM with Stock kernel and rooted to check what the governor and governor settings are
So, I have an Amazon ads enabled G4 that I got from a friend. While using CPU-Z I noticed that, at least what the app shows, is that four cores are always on, and two more turn on as needed. While the four that are always on are clocked at 1.21 gHz... We'll call these four "battery efficient" cores, it seems the other two that turn on as needed are clocked at 1.44 gHz or the "power" cores. At least for me, there is a total of four "power" cores but the extra two never come on.
In an attempt to save battery, I turned on the android battery saver on. With this enabled, the "power" cores turn off and do not come on at all. The four "battery efficient" cores stay on and what a difference between battery saver enabled compared to battery saver disabled. I also noticed all of these eight cores to have a minimum speed of 806 MHz.
So, I've been able to achieve over 6 hrs of Screen On Time. I could only dream of when I used my Moto X Pure Edition. I'm trying to figure out why the 808 while based off A53s does not achieve said Screen On Time, while a far inferior processor is able to do this with no problem.
Obviously I cannot root the phone to check it myself. Anyone care to discuss?

Wanted to see if anyone is willing to share stock governor settings.
Sent from my XT1575 using XDA-Developers mobile app
Just need stock governor settings, from anyone that has an unlocked bootloader and has been able to root this phone.
Sent from my XT1575 using XDA-Developers mobile app
I know it's extremely hard to figure out what the stock governor and its stock settings are, however, I was hoping since we have so many great minds here at XDA that thus would be an attainable request ???

So, if you have a rooted moto G4, would be greatly appreciated if you share them stock governor setting and anything related to the kernel

I'm not rooted and I can't load the app right now but can't you see the settings even though you can't change them on a non-rooted phone?
I've tried, but I have not found a way or an app that shows the actual governor parameters settings. It only shows what governor is being used. @Tel864 do you know something I don't???
Anyone else that has their g4 rooted please help.

@bigunwhistle what I'm referring to is any application that allows you to control the governor. Is it better to siwtch to PM in an attemp to not clutter the thread???
Does anyone know of a way to hotplug or how to enable hotplugging for at least the ls997? The mk2000 v1.1 supposably does but its no where to be found. Is there another kernel that does this for this phone?
Searching has not been very helpful so far.
I even tried the commands, but no luck. I do not the core_ctl file that is mentioned a page or two back.

From what I have read, hot plugging is no longer utilized on modern kernels due to the improvements in the interactive kernels

Seems like it would still be beneficial for battery for CPU's to auto shut off when not needed instead of all cores always running.
