I'm trying to create a shortcut to open up the Recent Call Log versus opening up the dialer. I'm using Apex Launcher and searched through activities, but can't seem to find the one that leads to the Recent Call Log. Any suggestions?

Thanks. That activity brings up the recent call log selection screen (where I can check recent calls to delete or edit). I'm looking for the recent call log screen where I can simply swipe to right to dial or left to message.
I can use your activity and simply press bback button after it is launched, but am hoping for a more direct method.

Oh OK.
Open Activities > Contacts (same place as before) and scroll all the way down to 5 green phone icons in a row. Find Phone > RecentCallsListActivity (3rd phone icon from the top), that should do it.

Hmm... Make sure to look under Activities > Contacts > Phone and not under Activities > Phone.
Carrier shouldn't matter, but a launcher might. You may want to try Nova Launcher just to see if this option is available.
Also, there is always an app for everything: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=se.erikofsweden.erikutil

I don't see the Phone submenu under Activities>Contancts. Tried looking for it with Xshortcuts too.
I've tried that app out, but there's a significant lag opening Recent Calls.
Thanks for you help and info.

Lets say I wanna change the icon shortcut link to Handcent instead of the default Messanger, theres gotta be a way to change it. Hopefully without rooting.
No way to change them. This feature and app menu options where removed from the epic.

I'd call that a workaround rather than a solution: I'm hoping for a solution via root or some other hack. Maybe it'll be as simple as editing a text file?
Quoted from the thread you said didn't have the solution. This might work for the other buttons as well, if you clear the defaults in said applications. That is done under the Settings > Applications, find the app and hit the "Clear Defaults" button.
Just download Handcent. When you hit the messaging icon at the bottom it will ask you if you want to use the stock app or Handcent (then you can check - remember this choice). Now whenever you hit the SMS icon (it will still appear to be the same...). It will open Handcent.

I'd call that a solution if it also changes the launcher icons to whatever application you're setting as the default. Does it work that way?

The 'Default Messenger' is not listed under Manage Applications, there is one for Handcent but that only makes it the default if you go through your contacts and select the 'text' option.
Otherwise it doesn't change the default launcher icon to open handcent and it doesn't change the logo.
Thats the one thing that is crappy with sprint is how they default their stuff and hard lock you in on it, same with the market place. They must have 3 different versions of the 'Sprint Marketplace' that has the same stuff as regular market place.
They also changed the Downloads section you click in Market to the name of 'Sprint', its like "wtf are they thinking" and it just lists a couple of average free apps under it that are already available.
This is stuff that I hope can be changed without rooting in the future, but it looks like the roms might be the saviour of this phone. SCHEIZA!!!!
It's "sprint's recommended" downloads. Yes, it's annoying, but it's better than locking you out of a ton of apps like other companies.
I want to modify the double tap home behavior to open Handcent when I double tap home. I found out that by going to data/data/com.motorola.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db, I can use an sqlite editor. I also know the format is <program>/ Activity. I have the com.handcent etc, but what would I enter for activity? HELP!!!!
Edit: Change that to whatever you want to run when you double tap. Note the form though, <program>/<activity> I found this, so what would I do for handcent?
can someone also pm or send me the original com.motorola.android.providers.settings ? mine is corrupt and any change I make will not change the home button behavior. I'm sorry, I'm very new to this.
This what you're looking for?..
http://www.thezengarden.net/files/settings.db
Thanks! However, when I double tap home, I still crash to the home page. And now I can't even download market apps and am getting more errors. I might have to reflash
Can you just go to Settings > Applications > Double Tap Home Launch
And change it there?
I have mine open the Dialer
Edit: I just noticed the list of apps available to this is quite small, so Handcent might not even be listed here

Handcent, along with all other third party apps can't be selected from the list.

I haven't seen a thread for this yet, so I thought I would share. After installing Launcher Pro, I was playing around with the shortcuts and Activities. Under Call settings there is a hidden menu named "All Calls". If you create a shortcut you will have access to the auto reject call menu and will have the ability to enter phone numbers, or select numbers from the call history, that should be automatically rejected. The nice thing about it is the phone doesn't ring or vibrate. Since I forward my office line to my cell, I get a lot of solicitors and its great to be able to dump them automatically.

Nice find. I wish I would have discovered this sooner. I actually bought "Group to Voicemail" on the Market a few weeks ago because I needed this functionality. Oh well. It's a nice app and the dev seems cool.
LOL...
i just noticed this menu is NOT in the epic..lol
this is a regular menu in all other android phones i had use, such as the moto droid and the nexus one
Define how I am supposed to find something "hidden". Kinda confusing. I have Launcher Pro isntalled and see nothing about this under settings/call settings. Wanna elaborate?
Go to a blank spot onto your phone. Tap as if you were going to add a widget or shortcut. Go into shortcuts, activies, call settings, and tap all calls. It will create a shortcut which u go into and will see the auto reject feature.
I believe you must have LauncherPro. This is not in the settings menu.

You have to enter the number without any dashes or spaces.
"Cell Broadcast SMS" looks interesting.

No you don't have to leave it on the home screen, but it makes it easier to add more numbers later if you do. Personally, I have a folder on my home screen that contains that shortcut and shortcuts to other apps and settings I frequently use.
Metallica76 - thanks for clarifying those additional steps. My apologies everyone for not being more specific on the actual steps for creating the shortcut.
Now if I can just find the "send to voicemail" option everyone says is in the contacts settings, which clearly is not there.

As far as I can tell, this can be done through any launcher, even the TouchWiz launcher.

You can also press the icon next to the entry field to add a number from your contact list or from your call log (although you will have to remove any dashes included).

I was looking more for a shortcut to the stock recent call log and use that to dial people by swiping to the right. The Widgets sound like they would merely show the call log but I would be unable to call from it.

Was looking for a direct shortcut to the tab of the dialer shown in the screenshot.
It worked on the S3, but I can't find the same activity on the S5.

I never actually tried that method. I did write a script for my S3 to make it work, but without root on my S5 I'm not able to do the same.
I think it may be not works in s5. Not sure..
Well, I was just fiddling with my phone. I am using Nova Launcher. I went to add a shortcut and then chose "Activities". After that, I scrolled down to Settings, clicked on it and scroll down until I found something interesting. It was named UsageStats. I chose it and it is like a thing that shows when you last opened an app and how much you used it.
Edit: This page is not otherwise accessible from Settings (even by using the search function).
I believe this is specific to Nova Launcher.

I would think it would work with any launcher that allows shortcuts. I seem to remember accessing another hidden setting using another launcher before Nova.
@Tel864 is correct. Any launcher or app that allows us to create a shortcut will allow us to do this thing.
And by the way, I found the "WiFi Status" setting as well, using this.

I'm not sure why it didn't work for you. For me it opens this. Try again make sure you are typing it right.
