This is a mod how to enable navigation bar(on screen
buttons) , its very simple and easy...
Warring: if you mess something dont blame me.
Add the following line at the end of buid.prop file
qemu.hw.mainkeys=0
now on reboot we will have nav-bar like on nexus 4
To turn off capacitive buttons:
Go to system/use/key layout/ synaptics-rmi-touchscreen.kl
Long press it and click open with text editor
Delete everything there
Reboot.
To turn of capacitive button lights:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.deskangel.kblight
Or
This will mess your screen brightness and it will stay on 100% all the time. You have to use screen filter app from play store or some other app to control the brightness of your screen.
Go to system/lib/hw
There find lights.msm8960.so
Rename it to (whatever you want)
Reboot.

To turn off the lights you can just edit framework-res.apk.

This is only applicable to AOSP/CM ROMs this won't work on sense based ROMs.

Here you go, if your rooted, extract this and put it in etc/init.d to turn off your lights on boot.
Or, just execute it with root explorer.

Does work, been using it. On sense. If you are using a custom kernel with bln then that could be why. Make sure you set permissions though!

I have to dig out this old post.
Unfortunately i cant get the navigation bar to work?!?
Or can it only be done on CM Roms?
Im on Google Play Edition 4.3, did the total conversion as i want to stay on Stock GPE.

*Bump* this is of interest to me
I only managed to get a nav bar by using PA, fiddling with build.prop never gave me a nav bar GPE or anything else.

I think I read on the s4 forums that they also can't get this going with stock based roms (touchwizz and gpe), something about the lines of code for this to happen being removed or not there.
From personal experience, I could only get the navbar on pa. Another person on a thread enabled it on a cm based ROM.
So in the end, yes, it seems the only way to get the nab bar working is a cm based ROM. Its a pity cause that means we'll be giving up:
* good speakers - missing beats audio
* ir blaster and fantastic TV app.
* blink feed
* slightly better camera optimizations
Anyone able to recommend a cm based ROM ? Or at least alternative apps for the problems above?

Nope....doesn't work on Sense-based or GPE. Tried it like........I lost count. I kinda savvy it too. However, even on a Touchwiz I can't produce it. So probaly it only works on CM or CM based roms.
Hi all, couldn't find a thread for this subject.
I like the transparent statusbar and I understand that when using apps or in certain screens it will be black but when I crop an image to use as a wallpaper shouldn't it be fullscreen ratio? On the stock wallpapers it is transparent but with a custom image it's black. Not sure if there's anything I can do as I'm no dev, but if anyone knows of a solution I'd like to hear it.
Thanks

Samsung has a new update that has the transparent notification.
I make my own custom wallpaper. It shows up transparent just fine. I am/was confused about the transparent fix Samsung announced.
Currently I have a picture of grass I took. The picture was taken with the phone camera. The stock wallpaper app seems to do a good job cropping.
On the laptop using GIMP I crop and scale to 1920x1920 300 DPI. Canvas adjust to 1080x1080. Then Image size to 1920x1920 300dpi.
First screenshot is the grass background I made in GIMP. Second is a dandelion picture I captured and cropped on phone. They both have a transparent notification bar. Hence my confusion.

Ah, well... I am running rooted stock and when I go to update software I get toasted with something like "this device has been modified. There are no updates available" any way to fool it into thinking I have unmodified binaries or am I going to have to get on a custom rom to stay updated? I have put a lot of work into build.prop tweaks, init.d scripts, audio/visual mods, etc....it's just that the opaque status bar is a little thing that irks me. I also am a little bummed out knowing that I'm missing out on some cool little updates.

The new update has only been released to the Germany T-Mobile AFAIK. There are a couple custom ROM based on it using the transparent notification. If you want to keep root and a recovery, I would not recommend flashing anything from AT&T since its rumor they are working on a fix for that...

Yeah. Att doesn't work so well for me anyway. I have to flash a jfltecan kernel with any att rom I've found or I get stuck in bootloop and I'm worried about a potential bricking. Either way I don't like having att posted all over my telus phone so I steer clear. There are some cool telus based roms but I like to try and figure the mods out or at least ask around for reading material to help me.

Err . I didn't mean to add ATT crap in there since I saw the M on your sig... opps, its a habit
You can flash I9505 ROMs from what I have read. Not sure about your carriers track record in releasing updates in a timely manner (ATT sucks about that). Have you checked out the I9505 threads? Just make sure its I9505 Qualcomm and not the Octa-core I9500.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2303125
Btw anybody notice this? I found it in the i9505 thread. It says it should work on any variant but I think I might be doing something wrong when manually editing build.prop because it hangs at the Samsung logo boot animation forever. When flashing the zips it says editing build.prop so maybe the manual edit is unnecessary? If I get it working I'll let anybody interested know, likewise if anybody else takes interest and can make it work let me know how.
(Edit) this doesn't work according to multiple people in the thread. Sorry for wasted space.

@shaqqq i installed nova launcher and it solved my problems with at least the home screen lag, and it gives you a touch of AOSP, personally i love AOSP.
i too have noticed significant lag compared to my note 2, when on stock. perhaps rooting and removing bloatware might help, but i ROM'd just for that reason (cleanrom+xposed)

I don't know if you have read the tons of suggestions to reduce or get rid of the "lag", but here it's a summary:
1-) Activate Developers options and then set to off all the animations options
2-) Freeze/Disable the AT&T and/or Samsung Bloatware
3-) Remove the option to activate the S Voice by double clicking the Home Button, go to options on S Voice and you will see it there.
4-) If you have the Default Weather Widget, get rid of it or at least set the options to not update all the time.
5-) if you have downloaded Swiftkey, people seem to have issues with it and Weather widget combined. try using Swype (already on your phone) or Google Keyboard that was updated on the Playstore and now most can have it for free.
Maybe there are a couple of other suggestions, but the last ones, 4 and 5, seem to have affected the most. I haven't had any lag but can't say that there is no lag, as there are a lot of people that seem to have it, so it seems that it maybe some productions issues if that's the case, that is affecting some, while others don;t have it.
Custom roms would be the only way to limit the lag, as most of the devs have pretty much put a stop to it. If you stay stock you will have to wait a LONG time until they release their slow ass updates.
I am running WanamLite with NO lag so far. The above post is about all your going to get running stock.

Did a quick search but couldn't find a definite answer, so does anyone know if the Xposed framework is compatible with stock rooted G2? It's the Sprint ZVA variant, deodexed. I'd really like to customize this phone a lot more but to be honest I'm really not too impressed with many of the custom roms because I've found a nagging bug in just about every rom I've tried. Stock seems to work best and provide solid battery life, call quality, etc so I'd prefer to stick with that, and customize the hell out of it.
Edit: tested, works great on stock with G2 Xposed. I am even able to install CM themes on stock with HK Theme Manager.

Pro or lite normally just a reboot will let you download
is someone already on the 12/8 build? >is it working fine?...am on 5/12 so far the only issue is the sms failure message,..and i was having a hard time getting tether to work but thanks to "JhoonB51" in some earlier posts, finally got it to work. I did the SQlite Editor fix, if anyone is having trouble getting tether working just download SQlite Editor "got to be rooted" then go
/data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db then enter the database "global" then change the value of field "tether_dun_required" to 0, if is not there just make a new one., name it tether_dun_required, value 0......reboot the phone and done
it worked for me!
I tried the 12/8 and still had sms error notifications. I revereted back to 4.2. My bigger concern is the miscellaneous battery drain. I seem to still have that even after removing nfcnci with System App Remover.

Roaming Issue
I have heard one or two people post about CM12 automatic roam setting reverting to Home Only. I have had that problem but not just on this ROM. I was wondering if very many phones are having the problem since it does not seem to be mentioned very often.
The miscellaneous battery drain has disappeared for me. The NFC shouldn't be causing it any more. If you don't use NFC, just disable it in Settings. I think there might be a wakelock from Bluetooth. You may want to try turning that off and see if it helps -- assuming you use it.

Thanks! I thought I was going nuts.
bluetooth is still a little buggy with the latest 12/09 post. moto 360 fails to connect and bluetooth still messes with wifi.
SMS issues with hangouts, just want to verify that those that have it are changing hangouts to the default SMS app. My case is a little different and works fine as I'm using google voice integration with Sprint, so I'm not actually using the app, though i did get the message failure until i changed the default SMS app to hangouts.
Confirmed error when using hangouts as default sms app with my Sprint cell number. I believe but cannot confirm 100% that I did not have the problem using hangouts not set as default using my G Voice number.

Thank you for all the work done for this model!! Which in my opinion still has a lot to offer!!

You can look at the merged CM commits here or the open (pending) ones here. If you look at the main ROM page, you'll see the cutoff of CM's GitHub for my most recent build, so you can see what patches/features have been included in it. You can also see what cherry picked patches I am including -- those are almost entirely for better device support.
There is still a bit of work to do to get a stable base for CM12, but I'm sure after that there will be a lot more features.
