Hi everyone,
I’m using CM7 for a month now and very appreciate it ! I’m a bit of a noob in the Android & Linux world and so I wanted to have more information about a few things that I’m reading regularly. I’m looking for papers, blog posts, wiki sources or your personal tips and tricks about :
- In what consist porting a ROM to a device ? I mean for instance in what consists the porting of the ICS sources to a mod as Cyanogenmod 9 for a specific device ? (I’m using the Motorola Defy)
- What is building a ROM? And what are Nightlies ?
- What are the main difficulties in porting sources to other devices?
- How does rooting of a device works? What is modified in the device?
- How is the bootmenu installed ? What is modified to have access to that menu during the booting ?
I’m asking because I was looking for technical information and found nothing !
So, if you could help with all kinds of information and sources, do not hesitate !
Thank you everyone !

For boot menu, the logwrapper binary is changed to a new file. That file is one of the first things run by the kernel, and this binary is used to hook in and light the blue LED, and listen for a button press. It then starts the boot menu for real if you press the down button, and displays it on the screen.
Rooting is exploiting of a vulnerability in the device, in order to gain root (superuser/administrator) access, and thus full control of the running system. You then leave a binary in place to allow further access as root without issues (su binary), and Superuser.apk to control root access on a per-app basis.
Thank you for answering.
Do you know what kind of vulnerability is exploited ?

Hey guys. Not sure if you have seen this. Some information about a new LG phone with Firefox OS just came out, the phone is called LG Fireweb. I took a quick peek at the specifications and dimensions of the phone, and it seems almost identical to our good old Optimus L5. It basically has the same layout, only some minor design changes. Could it be possible that the new LG Fireweb borrowed L5's platform?

Not sure about you guys, but I am very curious about this. If both phones have the same hardware, how possible would it be to extract Firefox OS from the new LG Fireweb and install it on our Optimus L5's?
Its not the same, because the cpu is different,it have 1ghz and we have 800mhz.
Maybe it can ported,maybe.
YOURE BORN AS A ORIGINAL,DONT DIE AS A COPY!!!!GREEEEETZ!!!
Well, google "boot2gecko" and will you know how it's made.
Maybe it can be ported, if the essential hardware is almost the same (FireWeb's CPU could be an overclocked version of the MSM7225A).
But since boot2gecko is open source, you can try to download all the sources and try to compile it for our devices (it will be hard, though  ).
don't know you guys know or not but l5 was official b2g device for quite some time
Didnt know this,thanx for info.

Hey guys. I am looking for one person or a few people to help me port Firefox OS on L5 II (e460). And I can help with porting on L5. So, if anyone is interested, let me know. Hello guys, :good:
I just started yesterday on building a aosp based custom rom for note 3, but I'm stuck somewhere and I'm here to ask something about my port session.
Firstly in the guides I've readed there says that I have to find the device tree and vendor propietary files. I have found something on git hub:
https://github.com/sibeveyh/device_samsung_hlte
https://github.com/sibeveyh/vendor_samsung/tree/kitkat/hlte
found these two binaries what do I have to do with these? Which one should I use? Where do I have to place it?
Thanks for the help
some help??
Hey guys.
Look at this: https://github.com/FlymeOS
Any android developer could please look at the sources and give us feedback if they are usefull for custom roms?
thx to @iicc for the information (source http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=61626530&postcount=45)
pOpY
The manual is in chinese... But it will be nice if somebody tells what it is inside the repository and what can we do with this
What they have done is to facilitate people to make Flyme roms for other devices, nothing more.
With the code that was released the other day we can not do anything
We still in the same situation

Hi everyone,
I just noticed that the Z300C Source code has been released by ASUS (2020/11/04).
https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/EeePAD/Zenpad/Z300C/Z300C_V4.7.5-update.tar.gz
Any enthusiast who are willing to help me try to build it ?
Edit:
I uploaded the source code on Github if anybody is interested in it :
https://github.com/dchenaux/android_kernel_asus_p023
So the build worked
I created a zImage.
Now i'm wondering what would be the next steps ?
My goal would be to make an aosp ROM.
I found some basic device tree for the tablet which I forked here :
https://github.com/dchenaux/android_device_asus_p023
I'm currently investigating how to achieve that. I never ported aosp for an unsupported device. If you have any advice I would be happy !
sadly i have no idea about how to build a rom, but i hope you reach the goal!
also, could you help me find out what file controls battery charging?
btw how did you find out about the release of the source code?
Hey
Sorry I didn't have time until now to investigate further, but it's still in my todo list.
I was looking for the stock rom on the Asus website and I saw that the source code was available.
Hi, any luck on making a custom ROM yet? (Sorry for the bad English)
