4.4.2 Firmware - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys.
Had some great advice in some of my other questions and I thank everyone who posted. Everything always helps.
Just before I do this, as I've been informed that you can't go back to 4.3 after updating bootloader to 4.4.2.
Which would be the latest 4.4.2 firmware I should flash for N9005 in Australia? I then want to flash custom roms like Xnote etc. Knox will be triggered after I flash a custom recovery am I right?
Thanks guys. As far as I can see NC3 is the latest.

Oh ok cool thank you.
Thing is what if I was to flash the Netherlands firmware, will I still be able to use it stock if I wish in Australia? I'll probably go straight to custom rom but just seeing. I'm worried if I flash a certain countries firmware I'll brick my device...

no u won't brick, as long as u choose the correct firmware for your device.
and do a proper step by ODIN PC.
btw, u open 2 similar threads ?

Yeah I know, just trying to get more info. As a thread gets seen once, it's forgotten about pretty quickly and not many people get to see it, or have the opportunity to comment. especially in the q&a section.

Another thing I wanted to check was if I flashed ND3...can use like NB7 or NB3 or any earlier 4.4.2 rom?? Custom obviously? Heard some scary things if you go back...maybe that's to a non-knox firmware...
Thanks!!

You can flash other (earlier) 4.4.2 roms but you can`t downgrade to a 4.3 rom afaik

Oh cool. That's fine then. All these have open MSCs right? So I could technically use it stock? There will be an English option? I mean if it's all on there I don't know why Samsung doesn't release it at a faster rate, ir more at once... If indeed it works fine. I'll probably change straight away to a custom rom but still, it'd be nice to see what vanilla kit kit is like.

Android 4.3 Touchwiz ROM ANYONE??

Does anyone know of a new Android 4.3 Touchwiz ROM? 4.3 has recently been released on the GT-I9505 and I have been wondering if anyone has implemented this into their ROMs yet. I'll probably just flash a Loki patch if it isn't already loki'd.
Anyone have a suggestion or idea? Comment below!

I have already tried flashing the VisionX II on my ATT MF3 S4 with no luck. ROM tries to flash and returns success but progress bar never fills. I flashed the Knootz kernel with no help there either. Upon re-boot, phone passes thru Safestrap and then black screen and goes no further. Like to know if anyone has been able to flash the new VisionX v4.3 and what I did wrong if anything.

Did you flash a loki patch? Remember that it's made for the I9505 and not the I337
Sent from my GT-I9505 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
You don't need to flash loki if you flash the att ktoonz kernel. I did not use safe strap so I cannot answer that question but with twrp I was able to successfully flash vision I I. This rom is amazing and really fast. If you can I suggest you give it a shot.
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda app-developers app
I've done so, but with Philz touch. It didn't work though, as it just gave me a black screen after it booted, and then otherwise just kept rebooting without even continuing with a boot animation. I did flash Loki doki, but do you think it would make a difference if I were to flash the AT&T kernel itself?
Sent from my GT-I9505G using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
All I did was factory reset then flashed the rom and then flashed the ktoonz att kernel. Then wiped cache and dalvik and rebooted. Works perfectly...you don't need to mess with loki if you flash an att kernel as they already have it.

Firstly, start here... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=42320414&postcount=2
The fact that your are running the MF3 bootloader will prevent you from flashing any custom kernels due to the blown qFuse. Your only option as of right now is to root your device either using Kingo or jortex's root exploit. From their your need to install Hashcode's Safestrap Recovery and go from there with TouchWiz based ROM's for MF3.

just asking to see if there's any last hope for it but whats LOKI? ive heard about it in the past. Ive seen on KT's Kernel thread it would work on TW but im guessing it wont work for me being the qfuse issue.
Also if none of these are an option whats the point anymore to root? my old S3 was amazing and i loved flashing new things on it but it seems so locked down now to where the only real benefit of rooting is bloatware removal.

There is a lot of information about "LOKI" and "Rooting" in the General, Development, and Original Development sections.
This phone frustrates the **** out of me. So its rooted and all that with safestrap and when I flash a TW rom all it says is go to slot one and ceeate that and wipe the phone and install and when I do that and reboot all I get os a black screen with a blue led at the top

Use the MF3 Odin files, go back to stock and try again. Are you positive you didn't accidentally flash your TouchWiz ROM to the stock slot? Also... was what ROM was it?

I think it is not a 100% safe thing to try to update a carrier-locked Note3 - given that you also do not have a lot of experience I would suggest waiting a little more (and in the meantime reading in the many threads around and searching for somobody else with a carrier-locked Note 3 from the same 3 UK carrier).
You can get a free unlock code from three, got mine installed polish kit kat no problems.
Sent from my SM-N9005 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Just to mention that some 3rd party apps still require updates from developers to work on 4.4 so if you don't mind waiting a month or two this should also give them time too.
So if I get it unlocked, then its OK to flash the official update?
Basically I just want yo know the effect of flashing an official ROM on a carrier locked fone.
Yeah I've been reading the threads so I know how to flash it using Odin.just wanted to know will it be OK or will my fone go KU-KU
Sorry if I'm eating your brains

You can flash even if it's network locked. It will stay network locked... But won't be a problem. You can also get your phone unlocked free from three.

You will loose root unless you use mobile odin with the keep root feature, and boot into download, then flash the bootloader. I don't think there's a de la vega style root on 4.4.

If anything goes wrong with a bootloader flash the chance of a recoverable device are in the toilet...
Roms are generally fairly easy to reflash and so to can be recoveries if something goes wrong.
Bootloaders are the 1 thing you don't play with if you don't need to....
Who cares what the bootloader is anyway, as long as the device works which is why you needed to flash them to use Kitkat....
If you decide to go through with updating the bootloader then make DAMN sure the flash file isn't corrupt or you have any problems with the flash. Should be quick but truly those few seconds are a heart stopper, especially if it comes up fail in ODIN....
I have a lovely Samsung galaxy tab 7" paperweight to attest to this....

[Q] Couple of Queries, plz help

I have acquired an S4 i337 from At&t, it's on the MF3 4.2.2, i have used towel root to root it and installed safestrap as well...
i wanted to upgrade to 4.4, should i just odin the firmware onto it by putting it into download mode? which 4.4 is best for it in terms of stability and stuff...? i think only stock touchwiz is recommended since i don't know whether it's bootloader is locked or not...
second
can i root the 4.4 through towel root easily or is there a problem with it... which in your opinion is the best for the i337? I won't be able to downgrade again yeah?

Yes you can with Odin, but do your know the bootloader version of 4.2.2 you're on? If you're on mdb or mdl you probably don't want to update. On 4.2.2 you can use twrp or cwm custom recoveries and flash any roms your want. Once you're on 4.4.4 you'll be limited.

Go into setting, about device. Look at the last three characters build number. That's a good indication of what your bootloader is. If your rooted the best way is in a terminal emulator type
su
getprop ro.bootloader

Ok, mf3 already has a bootloader that you can't do much with. Definitely update to nb1 by flashing the tar file in Odin.

If the device is already sim unlocked it'll remain so after flashing the stock firmware.

first of all, i wanted to thank you for your swift replies and help, you've been very generous, thank you ...
final question, is 4.4.2 a good upgrade from 4.2.2? is it worth it? i've read 4.4.2 had some issues with the S4... should i remain on 4.2 or upgrade to 4.4? what do you suggest? i've got the firmware (NB1) downloaded alongwith Odin... should i go for it?

I would. It has bug fixes and you can update to lollipop if you want. You can still have root and safestrap if you want. There really is no downside to it.

Hey man just wanted to say thanks for your guidance. You've been very helpful. I'm running 4.4.2 and it's great, smoother and better than 4.2.2... Thanks for the prompt replies.
Cheers

I'm glad you were around to assist me. I know I'm bad but could you tell me about the the S5 launcher? Can I use it on the stock NB1? Also another thing, is it true the Nj4 is better than NB1?
