Basically as the title says, my note3 is constantly waking up while on 4g. it doesnt stay in a deep sleep. over the last few days i have done some experimenting erasing apps and turning them off and force stopping. i am pretty sure it is the android system itself not a app i have. i barely have any apps installed. i use maildroid, its setup to push and checks only every 6 hours. i use fleksy for a keyboard. and hoverchat for texting. using nova for a launcher, swipe up for swiping up. pretty simple and clean i keep all of the eye tracking nfc stuff like that off just using it as a simple powerful phone to browse the internet and text.
background. i had the kitkat leak that was posted here in jan i loved it becides everything would stop responding constantly. but the battery life was amazing. so i backtracked went to the 4.3 release then did the official update with the instructions on these boards. immediatly i noticed the battery life was less and the phone wasnt staying alseep so i started the troubleshooting. it has been over a week since the update too i know sometimes new roms take a few days to stablize. but it hasnt.
so what would cause a phone to be constantly being woken up while on 4g only? the pics i included show it. the first about half of the 4 hr 38 minute one part of data i am on 4g only. the long bar of being awake at the start and end of the 4g time is me playing music. the only screenshot the first 1/3 is on 4g only. no music only texting and internet didnt use it much today.

Grab wakelock detector or Better Battery Stats and let it run for a few hours, then post the log if using BBS - and check the wakelocks, it's possible your signal is fluctuating too much and causing the device to constantly seek. But a wake lock monitor will pretty much tell you exactly what it is.

I was under the impression that wakening detection doesn't work with kit kat unless rooted? I use gsam battery app sometimes and it is basically the kernal it seems.
for most of my time with the phone I am in downtown of a major city with amazing 4g when it is doing it
Update
Tried a wipe reset and it worked great tested off and on WiFi. No drain at all when screen was off. Installed apps slowly and tested and all was good. Then I left the phone on the charger overnight woke up and it was back to the being awake often when on 4g only. I am stumped any new idea's?
hmmm... reminds of of fast dormancy during the S3 days... I wonder if it applies to Note 3

Read up and figured out that its the customer. Xml file It is turned to on I tried editing it but cannot save it because it is protected file I guess. Any other way to save it?
Seems to be the bam_dmux_wakelock I googled it seems to be only when not on WiFi which is my issue. Just gotta figure out the rest
Anyone know how to edit that customer. Xml file? Fast dormacy and the bam_dmux_wakelock seem to go hand in hand. Phone was all over the place today I have 47 minutes of that wakelock with about 6 hours of off WiFi time so it's a decent drain

Much more info is needed, to test if your phone has a problem remove all installed apps, charge to 100% and then check your batt stats. More likely than not something you installed is causing this.

Something is definitely wrong there. Wake lock should not even be showing up unless you are using some app to purposefully keep the phone awake or something. You must have a rogue app.

Yeah, I'm really suspicious about maybe some rogue apps run behind but no way to find out. maybe it's Viber or Whatsapp since it's always require internet connection to receive message. ... I would love to find a way to remove the bloat-software :crying: .. they ate half memory of the 8Gb Razr M, only 4.1 Gb Usable

does betterbatterystats work on this phone? I use this on my S3 to find out what's keeping phone from deepsleep. Then you can find out which apps are keeping it up.
It's not whatsapp - I use that as well and I get 1-2 full days on a charge.
You've got a lot of apps running in your notification tray (top left) - I'd pull them all out... or better yet, FDR and don't opt to restore your Google config then start over.
Unless you want to list every app you have installed those are my recommendations.

I have the very same issues, but only on GSM as soon as I am on Wifi battery life is excellent. I am using a German SIM card (in Germany) which works well (except of mobile hot spot). So I am suspecting some internal service looking for a Verizon service, which it obviously cannot find. Any thoughts?

Go into your dialer and type *#*#4636#*#* then hit the "phone information button" then scroll down to something that says "network types"or something along those lines and choose the "wdcma preferred" option. That might stop it from looking for vzw networks.

Thanks for the hint. But that does not solve the problem. I have installed juicedefender, which in its default setting seems to solve the problem. The battery life with juicedefender seems eternal . However, the phone is less "reactive" to email pushes etc.
I am getting the pro version of juicedefender, perhaps I can get down to the root.

My gf is having the same problem with her M. GSam said GMaps was wakelocked-looped...woke the thing 1,271 times in the 8 hours she had it unplugged. Auto-location reporting was turned on (wtf), switched it off but it kept dropping. ~10 hours off the cord with maybe 30 minutes use and it was at 6%. We'll see what happens tomorrow, but any ideas are much appreciated. I know more info is needed but it's kind of hard to pry into unrooted phones...we'll see.
I had the same problem two days ago. Two words for you... FAST DORMANCY (google it). Thats the culprit and is very telling with the first picture showing the phone is awake constantly when wifi is off and mobile data is on... you can test it yourself, compare battery drop rate with mobile data on and with wifi on.
Solution
1. Root phone, unfortunately you have to.
2. Download titanium backup
3. Freeze modemstatservice
4. Freeze fastdormancy.

Can you explain why titanium backup is needed?
I stopped the modemstatservice and fastdormancy services. Hope that works. I actually did a factory reset and thought for a short moment that it has improved, but that's not the case. I can stay a whole day with quiet a lot of browsing on Wifi and us up 20%. On 3G I drain 25% in 4h
So I bought titanium backup, freezed modemstatservice and fastdormancy.
No change in battery drain. I would like to know if all the other who have the same problem are running on a verizon SIM.
Until now nothing has worked. Under normal usage, I get a flat battery in about 16h. Normal means 2calls (<3min) and perhaps 5min of browsing.
I am having the same issue - coming from a Thunderbolt I am still happy with the battery as it is but if the wake lock could be resolved the battery would be awesome...
Not sure what is causing the gtalk spike as I removed that app...
ETA: running Jelly Bean leak & rooted... I also reflashed the leak wiping data, etc... with no change

Sorry to hear that this fix didnt work for you. Could you provide more info regarding your network and if possible some screenshot of betterbatterystats or something similar. Maybe *#*#4360#*#* > battery information might give me more information with regards to your problem.
Also, if you want to do really help eliminate more variables, try using ur phone on 3G without installing any apps.

Maybe uninstalling gtalk and leaving an apk is causing the spike since it is trying to sync. Why not leave it on, also try reducing email refresh time to 1hr as oppose to the default (15 mins). Your battery life seems reasonable.
Wake Lock Questions:
Anyone know what the bam.dmux.wakekock is for? It says it's for a power management system but I don't know what that's supposed to do.
Also the Ssmdcnt10 wake lock?
Those are the two that are running on my phone and both are running like 36 minutes since I unplugged my phone this morning. Is this bad or is it something that I could allow to continue happening? Thx!

I froze mine and so far it has improved and I'm running the jellybean leak with root; HOWEVER my battery still drains fast and when I was on ICS my battery life was amazing so I'm actually probably going to revert back to that tomorrow. I fed the jellybean leak since it came out early last week and tried everything that I know to increase battery life but nothing works.

I'm running stock nexus 4. I have been having terrible 8 hour battery life with "Android OS" taking up all the battery in battery status. BetterBatteryStats tells me that "sns_perioidic_wakelock" and "sns_async_ev_wakelock" is using up most of the battery. See attached. Any idea what apps are causing this?

I'm pretty sure I've seen those wakelocks when making a lot of phone calls. Seems likely related to cell radio use some how, but that's just a guess.

Actually the crazy thing is that i have airplane mode with wifi on most of the day cause I have really bad service. And I only have 100 minutes of talk, so I never talk on the phone.

Just checked mine and those wakelocks are really low today despite several phone calls, I've been on wifi all day though. The right way to figure those wakelocks out is to download the kernel source from one of the devs github and do some searches through the source to see where those wakelocks are logged. You might also search the battery impression thread in general, some smart folks have dissected many kernel wakelocks in there. Seems weird that you would have them in airplane mode.

I have the exact same issue. Wakelocks/Android OS killing my battery (Android OS usually 45% or higher when it should be my screen that is the biggest battery sucker).
I barely use my phone to make phone calls as well. I'd say 1 call every 2 or 3 days.
Same exact wakelocks here. I made 0 phone calls. There is defiantly something up.

Im Running stock kernal and Rom and i still get sns_periodic_wakelock and sns_async_ev_wakelock Does anyone have any idea what they are or what causes them or how to fix? They seem to be on the whole time my phone is on and they suck battery crazy not as bad as most but my android os is always 2nd battery use to my screen or more depending on how i use it and it sucks cause i know i would have pretty awesome battery life if these were fixed or gone. I appreciate any help!
Apparently you can also add: lightflow vibrate on pickup feature and adding a widget to the lock screen..
PowerManagerService and sns periodic wakelock are my main culprits but I'm not sure these numbers mean there's an issue or not...
I just checked BBS for todays use and I have on 9h use 4h on sns_periodic_wakelock. I have been using DashClock on my lockscreen. I will remove that and post back later to see if that helped.:cyclops:

Yes it does look problematic.
Basically sns_periodic_wakelock kept the device from sleeping for almost three hours.
I have the same issue and don't know what's causing it.
EDIT: Apparently live wallpapers do.
Just writing back to tell you guys how it went. I removed DashClock from my lockscreen and that wakelock seemed to be gone for a few days.
I then later updated the app, and just by updating it, I think it caused the wakelock. This time I'm uninstalling and checking if it comes back again.
Is there a known list of apps suspected of causing this?

I've had dashclock for the past two days.. Not seeing any wake locks. I have all the extensions from the app enabled.
Sns is related to facebook. If you use Titanium backup, go to apps and you can see a blue icon with a letter f on it that looks like facebook letter and labelled sns. Uninstall that and your lovely nexus 4 will enjoy its sleeeeep....
My phone keeps switching between H and H+ and I'm assuming this is attributing to my bad battery life. I'm tried the phone APN and the wap.cingular APN but both do the same thing. Should I just enable the Use only 2G networks option? Will that lock me into H only?
No. H+ and H aren't causing poor battery life. It's something else.

No it will put you on edge. 2g speeds. If you want to keep this phone on 3g, expect terrible battery life, period. A lot of people have hope that the next update will fix the insane battery drain on 3g. I highly doubt it.

There's no battery drain on 3G. The problem is somewhere else, mainly in maps, wakelocks and/or kernel.
alternatively route is to flash a custom kernel such as franco
Yeah I've got franco, and just flashed MiNCO ROM (I was using CM but battery life was still horrible).
What APN are you guys using? I'm using the phone APN. I just upgraded to franco r20 so I'm hoping this will show an improvement
apn varies on your carrier. its not the same for all
the phone sits on H and goes H+ when you are downloading stuff.

CM battery life isn't bad... its more of your current setup in terms of apps and kernel. ROM rarely has an impact on battery life in my opinion. its all about wakelocks, sync intervals.
make sure google maps latitude is OFF and that your phone isn't automatic reporting your location.
I've got the Access to my location setting under Location access On but al of the location settings under Maps are off.
I downloaded betterbatterystats yesterday. I noticed that my twitter and facebook app were causing some wakelocks so I got those syncs disabled. I'm hoping I'll squeeze some more life out of this now. I assume Google will probably be releasing a patch in the near future so I'll just hold tight for now (and a charger close)

Google releasing patches doesn't matter. It's your phone set up. I push 4+ hours easily. Disable whatever cards that you don't need in Google Now as well.

Sorry about the "Thanks", I greatly appreciate your help, I've clicked them. I'll review CPU Spy and the better battery status and I'll keep narrowing the problem down. I'm determined to squeeze 1+ day of battery life out of this bad boy!
Before the update everything was fine. Now if I turn on the screen or listen to music the phone would awake (it would show that it was asleep in jellybean). When I turn off the screen and I am not listening to music then my phone falls asleep. Android system used to be awake under 20 mins over a 15-30 hr span now it can be well over an hour in 4-9 hr span. I did a factory reset yesterday already, uninstalled all of my apps and reinstalled them when I seen that the problem still exist. I googled the problem, but can't find a solution. Is anyone else getting a Android System battery drain like me.

Yes, I am having the same problem. I was told to do a factory reset but I cant even back up my phone with kies because it the MTP driver keeps failing to install and Kies says I have to use Kies 3 even though the Samsung Site says 3 is for the Galaxy Note..
Did you sideload your update or was it OTA?

It was a OTA. I did a factory reset already, but that didn't fix the problem unfortunately.

yeah I side loaded the update and I am on 100% stock no rooting or anything. My phone gets really hot all of a sudden and the battery starts dropping like crazy. I have none of the apps running so I don't know what the problem is..

that is odd. I was reading the forums on the sprint galaxy note 3 update, and people have posted pix of their battery stats. Their stats looks similar to mine. The people there was saying that maybe the problem would fix itself over a week. Im hopping it do, because I am really loving kitkat...minus this issue of course.

oh wow. You definitely have an app that is not liking kitkat. Your phone does not fall asleep when you turn your screen off. Im really trying to figure out why your phone is doing that. Im going to assume that "lookout" and "Malwarebytes Anti-Malware" are the problem. My opinion is that you don't need those as much as you think you do. they are most likely the cause of your drainage. My phone falls asleep as soon as i turn off the screen. Now i have 90% battery life with almost an hr of SOT left, and thats on 4g LTE the entire time.

I had alot of problems when on wifi, don't use it anymore and sticking with 4g. I'm at 30% left with just over 4 hours screen on. I'm guessing it's something either Google or Samsung have syncing more often on wifi, on wifi I'd be dead at 3 or 4 hours screen on time

Thats interesting. I haven't used my phone on wifi yet, because its a little inconsistent right now. If your phone is acting up while connected to wifi then it got to be something on samsung's end. You can end up with just over 5 and a half hrs of SOT if you stick to 4g and don't want any problems. I would keep testing how things go on both wifi and 4g over the next couple of days if i were you to see if the problems continues though. What problems are you getting while connected to wifi?

Another one of the major problems I am having is that sometimes my apps don't work. When i clicked on the camera it did not show up the app opens but the camera does not turn on. This leads to a major lag and when I try to press the home button it does not work. Then my phone's screen just shuts off and I cant turn it back on via the home button or the power button.
This also leads to the phone getting hot and losing the battery very quickly..
oh and btw the S5 does not seem to impressive to me..

thats very odd man my phone doesn't do that at all.
The S5 didn't wow me either...lets see what HTC will do

I had the same problem at first. Waited a few days and it still drained badly. Then I went into startups and turned off a few of the apps I never use. Working fine now.

What apps did you disabled, and could you include a screen shot of your battery activity if you don't mind.

Same problem as the op. Android system would take alot and phone wouldn't sleep. But on 4g it sleeps. Could be an app I have I dunno. 4g is fast here so it's not a problem for me

i reset the phone and didn't install any apps and come to find out that its something that is already on the phone. I had no apps on my phone and android system and android os were in the top three that was taking up a lot of battery.
I recently had an issue with Android OS draining a lot of battery. I read somewhere that disabling stuff from Google sync that you don't use can help, so I disabled sync for all Google services except the ones I use, such as contacts, calendar, app data, people details, and play books. I rebooted and watched my battery for the next couple of days. And it worked. My battery life is a lot better, and Android OS is not using nearly as much battery as it did before. Perhaps this will help you guys?
***UPDATE on HOW TO FIX***
I HAD terrible batt drain with nae.. so bad that i left the device on the charger overnight qnd woke up to 35% batt... i got mad and reflashed stockish v6.. but.. batt drain was the same...
so.. here is what i did... i ended up flashing negalite r6 and the batt was so bad my phone would be dead within 1hr.. SO, FOR KICKS, i reflashed the MK2 modem and HOLY COW!, problem solved!!
im currently on negalite r6 ( a nae rom ) but using the mk2 modem and my batt drain problems are gone. in fact im getting great batt life. i didnt change the kernal or anything. i have flashed ktoonsez kernal over it, and it has not effected batt life at all...
in conclusion, if ur batt life sux, try reflashing mk2 modem.. it worked for me.. and yes 4g, mms, calls, and wifi work without any problem...

I don't even have sync on to help with battery life. Then again i never have it on unless i need to have something pushed to me.
I have a AT&T s7 edge running the latest U firmware. My battery life isn't great so I had to get a battery case. Screen on time about 3 hours.
Wi-Fi is off
Bluetooth off
Location and location scanning settings off
Data saver on for almost every app.
Power saving mode on with worst screen resolution
No AOD
Auto sync is off
I use greenify and doze
Auto update apps is off
Package disabler fully debloated
Literally almost everything to help save battery is done and only get about 3 hours 3 1/2 SOT.
Might get a new battery or new phone
Should i try anything else? Rooting again?
Switch back to ATT firmware?
I used to use all of the disabler apps thinking it would help my battery last longer (I heard using more than one at a time makes the phone run worse, too). For me, they seemed to start making it worse. I do disable a lot of apps like the AT&T crap, and a few others, though. I didn't see you mention auto brightness... do you have it on or off? Mine is usually off because I don't really need it, but I know it uses more battery while it's on. I'm getting around 6 hours of SOT. Sometimes more. You might have a rogue app that you installed from the play store. I haven't rooted this phone either. I got so tired of messing with root a few phones back, now I just use them as they come. It got too time consuming for me messing with all that.

There's a battery guide floating around the edge forums, I wanna say the thread is in the TMB general section.
One of the biggest battery hogs is social media and messenger app from FB. Download BK package disabler and open android system and hit services, turn off IQ services and you should notice a dramatic improvement in bat life.
Or maybe it's just time to replace the battery......

Yeah I have seen that. I have u firmware so it doesn't have the iq services. The att firmware did though. And yeah I have tried other apps they help a little but not worth it tbh

The thing that kills my battery the fastest is poor reception areas and large Wifi networks (schools, hospital, etc). It almost always better if you don't connect to a large Wifi network even if your reception isn't that great. Large wifi network constantly keep your phone awake with discovery packets

That's why they have the "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep" option. Set it to "While charging" and you'll see much better battery life.
This means it only connects to wifi when you unlock your phone or while it's charging. (Your phone will still use wifi determined by your "secured lock time" settings, which for me is 5 minutes).
