My S4 can't recharge anymore! - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Guys, suddenly my S4 (9500) stoped interpretting the charger dock! Simply tested it with 6 different chargers (that much at home... True story) and it don't charge! I have a hdmi cable that's working (its still working, so that's not a broken charge-hole port, I guess...), but neither the usb recognition is happening! I don't remember any water/whatever contact at the dock (nor chargers - other phones charging correctly), and can't rely on waranty (for long bit voided... Can't live without fouldermount in this phone...)
Hoplessly living with wireless charger port, but only as a media center at home (Lucky the hdmi cable is ok...)
What to do?!

Have you tried tot charge your battery separately from you phone, with an adapter in which you have to put your battery?
Something like this http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00BW0XZO0?pc_redir=1397432610&robot_redir=1 but maybe a cheaper one

GPS & bluetooth + charger =no charge

While traveling I was using the gps (coPilot) with my bluetooth on, (just for calls) and was getting low on battery!
So... Naturally I plugged in the charger! Guess what! Battery drained nonetheless!
Has anyone else seen this? I have the screen brightness to the lowest setting... But to no avail!
I apologize if it's been covered before, but just looking to see if anyone else had this issue and any suggestions on making that battery not run down while plugged in!
Thanks everyone! Oh, and yes I have a second battery for these occasions!

Yes. covered before and many people see this. May be worth tying a 1amp or higher charger.
Also, if the phone gets too hot, it will stop charging.
I have the same thing... Its just don't charge however it maintain the battery at whatever level it was.. This is simply fixed by getting a higher amp charger
Thanks everyone will get a higher amp charger...

Are any of you guys with problems using the Samsung Cardock , or
are those chargers "random" chargers of other phones ?
my official samsung charger that came with it has decided to pack in after a month of use, it no longer charges at the rate it used to of about 24% an hour and im lucky to get about 5% an hour now. I've tried my old hd2 charger (same 5v 1a output) and it charges without any issues
samung make crap chargers
That's what I think the issue is, I'm using a generic charger and it's not pushing enough juice!
Gonna pick up another charger soon and report back.

I got a 1A car charger with my mount which works ok (cheapo chinese says 1A). I think any car charger with a USB slot which says 'Ipad' would work better, IIRC the ipad needs ~2.2A so it would have plenty of juice.
I've got various car chargers, one at 850mA, one at 1A and one at 2.1A. None of them charge the Note while using sat nav (Copilot) even using night mode (dark backgrounds to maps) and dimming the backlight in between junctions. I've tried the USB lead that came with the Note and a lead from another phone. No improvement.
The phone shows Charging AC because I have the central pins shorted on the chargers, but even that is not enough. I'm thinking the only solution is to buy a proper Samsung charger, which might have some other trick up its sleeve for getting the Note to draw sufficient current.
I have just switched from using co pilot to another satnav app and the phone now charges faster. I knew co pilot was juice hungry. ...

Try to jiggle the cable in certain directions such as up down left right and see if it starts to charge. If it doesn't, return the sucker.

I have found the N7 is picky with cables' the default one that comes with it works fine but doesn't seem to want to charge through my car charger.
My epic4g cable doesn't work and neither do any of my other USB cables.
Same with the charger, it has to have a dedicated live connection and no USB splitters with multiple ports.
I need like a good 4-5' USB cable to use tablet comfortably while charging.

My car charger doesn't work either but my computer/tv/printer/tivo/wall/everything else works just fine... it must be a voltage issue with the car charger.
I remember reading that the charging issue some of you guys r having is a confirmed hardware problem, due to poor quality control. Asus was in such a rush to get the first few batches out that certain faults made it into a select number of batches. Other people who have had this hardware problem either could only use the Asus adapter, or that might not even work. You should try to get it replaced by your seller. I'll post the source in the morning if everyone's too lazy to Google.
Cheers
possible fix
I've read on other forums that it is the usb port. I my experience it is a intermittent connectivity or the wall wort isn't putting out enough amps. I bought an iGo Green for the iPad, put the tablet in Airplane mode and it will work fine while using it. Last night I shut it all the way down, let it charge overnight and woke up with a full battery.
Seems like only high output chargers work. All my 2.1A chargers work with Nexus 7, but lower output ones do not charge even when Nexus 7 says it's charging.

I need to find an app that shows charging
check output of charger, check cables, check charge on phone vs tab then send back to Google for a replacement grrrr
I have the same problem, how do I fix? I have the 16 gb version.
The N7 seems to be having a lot of problems with charging. A couple times when my battery has been completely dead, I have had a tough time getting it to begin the charging process. One time I watched it begin to charge, then boot up, stay on for about 20 seconds, turn off, and then not charge. I have no idea what's going on. I always eventually get it to work, but something doesn't seem right.
Remedy
Google Play telephone support had be factory reset my Nexus 7 8GB. After the reset, the battery began charging. A major nuisance having to redownload everything, but it does work. Good luck

Nexus 4 charging (USB) when plugged into wall?

Hey guys, noob here. Tried to thoroughly research this issue before posting but I cannot figure it out. When I first got the phone I fully charged it with the wall charger and it charged at normal speed and when I went to the battery menu it said charging (AC) Later on I plugged it into my computer so that I could put some music on it and ever since then when I plug it into the wall it says charging (USB) and its slow as hell to charge. Basically unusable for day to day use. So far I have tried multiple chargers, factory resets, and restarting the phone with the charger plugged and unplugged. Also, when I plug the phone into the computer now it just charges and does not show up as a device or anything. I have contacted Google about a replacement, but god knows when I will get one. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Sounds like there is a setting for the USB connection like with the HTC Flyer where you tell it the kind of connection you want to use. Whether you want connect to pc or charge only. For the Flyer it will charge a little when connected to a computer but if you want to just charge it via the wall charger you need to select charge only.

Sorry I guess I should have phrased better, I am aware that USB charging speeds are way slower but the issue is that when plugged into a wall charger, the phone thinks it is charging through USB and charges ridiculously slow.
Is this happening with the charger and cable that came with the phone? If so, I'd try to RMA it. Google should have stock to cover warranty purposes.

Yep. Happening with the stock charger any every other one I have tried. Got an rma for it and the shipping estimate was the 25th but now it switched to pending. Don't know if that is good or bad
Try a factory reset, settings > backup & reset > factory reset. Missed it in your original post but it wouldn't hurt to try it again if you're gonna RMA it.

Get a multimeter. Check for continuity on the middle two contacts of the USB charger. (While unplugged)
You should have continuity. If you do, blame the phone. If you don't, blame the charger.

Now my nexus start charging AC mode and then, randomly change to USB mode.
When the device is wireless charging on what mode is, USB or AC?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Mine says USB right now. It must be temperature based. Odd they would change it from AC to USB. I would have gone the warning message route. E.g. "Stop using your phone if you ever want it to charge. 'AC - slow' charge now enabled."
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
Or borrow another charger to test the same issue. You could even see if it's the cord or adapter by swapping them as well.
I let my phone cool off. It went back to AC charging. Definite temperature issue. Just odd is says USB/AC and not hot/cold.

Glad you guys are able to solve your charging problems. My problem definitely goes deeper than a heating up issue. I have left my phone on charge without use for hours on many different charger setups (mix between LG, Motorola, and stock adapters and cables) and cannot get it out of USB mode. Still No sign of my replacement phone either. I also cannot get more than 7 hours of battery life out of the thing even with data, GPS, and sync off and screen on the lowest brightness. [Q] Car Charging Issues with Nexus 4

Past 2 days my Nexus 4 is not charging via Car Charger, i have original Samsung Charger, i also have USB port. i tried the USB cable i receievd with Nexus 4 from LG. No Luck, i can only charge my Nexus 4 at home.
I checked my usb lead and Samsung Car Charger to charge my Backup phone Galaxy mini, it works fine. Gaalaxy mini charges but not my Nexus 4.
I was thinking it might be an issue from CM Kernel. i recently installed CM10.1 nightly 13/3/2013 it was working fine before going custom rom. I have used every single custom roms in the past, i had no problem with charging anywhere before.
so i returned back to stock today and it is the same not charging.
I can only charge at home, but i use it alot and i need to keep it on charge in the car too.
Help pls thank you
Lower amp car chargers can't charge the Nexus4 faster than it discharges. I have a 2 Amp charger that works.
Having the screen on full brigthness while using GPS drains the phone really fast!
Does your Nexus4 not charge at all or does it charge slower than it drains?
It might be the kernel, I am using a Samsung galaxy S3 usb cable with a usb port car charger and I do not have any problems charging my N4. I am on Baked ROM and Franco kernel.
it has nothing to do with my car chager cuz it was working fine before.

i did not have any problems before using the CM
as soon as i flashed CM10.1, this problem started. i changed back to stock and still same problem
I'm also having problems with charging my Nexus 4 in the car. I have charged my N4 everyday going to work for the last 3 months. But last week it stopped working I'm also running CM 10.1 nightlies since day one if that has any importance.
The car charger works with my old Nexus One
I have bought another car charger that works(verified with N1), but doesn't charge my N4. Both chargers support 1 Ampere.
I can charge my N4 with AC-adapters
I can also charge the N4 connected to my computer using USB.
Any ideas?
bumping this. any solutions? same boat here
I have same isdue, but not all the time. I noticed my N4 stops charging with my car charger, the original charger and the wireless charger when it comes too hot. (after playing a game for example)
The only way I found to make it charges again is waiting for it to get cooler and then replug the charger. I think it might be an hardware security that stops the charge when the battery is too hot because when my N4 has a normal temperature it charges normaly evdn on my 1A car charger
BIG bump here!! My N4 stopped charging in my car randomly around when 4.3 came out....!! Any ideas what's up?!? Annoooying......!
Just in case I drive a 2010 Prius.... Worked fine since the N4 was first released.

can anyone confirm a working fast charge cable?

I've found a couple forums on this but no solutions. Can anyone confirm a working fast charge USB cable other than the stock LG 3' long one?

Thanks. But chargers are easy to find. What is difficult to find is a USB cable to work. You'll see in the thread I linked on the first post, lots of people are having challenges with finding USB cables to work even if a charger is well above 2 amps. Even using the stock LG charger, no USB cables seem to work except the one that came with the phone, to eliminate the "slow charge" icon and allow around 1500mA of current to be drawn from the charger like it should in a fast charge..
what cable are you using with your new charger? And do you get the slow charging icon?
I think it all boils down to the charging base... I have used the LG, various Htc and Samsung base units with all kinds of mini & micro USB cables without any issues... The base units are rated from 800mA~1.5 and have not had any slow charging issues... I've only experienced the slow charging when connected to the PC or some car chargers...

I used to run a 1.5' usb cable from monoprice and the GPS on my phone would discharge the battery faster than it could be charged. Now the phone charges so much faster.
I have yet to have a problem with any of the generic monoprice cables and wall charges I bought a couple years ago. Only time I get a slow charge notification is using my 1a car charger. My Optimus G and HTC One X chargers and cable work fine as well.
IT IS NOT THE CHARGER!!
It is something in the cable. And good luck finding one. If you use the included USB cable that came with the G2, then it will charge on ANY charger "normally" (fast charge). If you use ANY OTHER cable, it will slow charge.
I don't know what is in the cable or why it makes a difference, but none of my USB cords/chargers work unless I use the INCLUDED USB CABLE.
I had a thread on this already somewhere in the General Area I think. It REALLY sucks because I have TONS of chargers and cables. I have some at work, home office, bedside, 2 in my car, friends cars, etc. I DO use Wireless Charging at night and luckily the phone has a huge battery to last through the day.
There IS a problem here but my thread got ignored like, "I don't see a problem here, just use the included cable". Well yea if I stayed home all the time. My work makes me travel for work so I have to make sure I remove the 1 working cable and carry it with me EVERYWHERE. What a pain in the butt.
Has anyone tried on custom roms to see if perhaps it is something just on the stock software telling it to go Slo-Mo.
My Verizon non usb attachment cable charges fast. My OEM Spectrum cable does as well. My dual one amp car charger charges slow no matter the cable, and my works Motorola and Kyocera cable charges slow no matter the connection. I have a couple Samsung's I need to test. I do not own any generics. I have not tried other combos.

LG Spectrum cable does not work, slow charge, my fault.
However, the straight plug from my new Verizon car charger does work, the USB port also (ONLY with G2 cable so far[tested lg spectrum, Motorola, Samsung, and Kyocera. Older cables]).
Recap: So far ONLY Direct car charger or USB G2 cable has fast charged. Must be chipped or using some different wire combo?

Ok. I can confirm that the cable used for the Nexus 7 (2012) works.
Also, the original cable for the Samsung Skyrocket works.
Works meaning fast charge.
I can't gurantee that this is the cable, but my skyrocket cable does look like the top cable here:
http://www.ebay.com/bhp/samsung-galaxy-s-ii-skyrocket-usb-cable
(Charger looks like it too, but the charget won't fast charge G2)
Edit:
The Skyrocket was really picky about cables/chargers. If it didn't have the correct one, it would wakelock. Maybe there's something with the way it's wired that makes it good for the G2 as well.

I wonder if one of these would help:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004YX4HDU...UTF8&colid=30QBEX6L12GNN&coliid=IG0PDK7SARZGV
It's something to do with pins 2&3 being bridged that enables a cable to support fast charge.
That adapter linked above is supposed to do that.

Yeah, I'm not so sure about that. It may be the software in the phone that is causing the issue. I had to replace my car charger so I picked up a rocketfish 3.0 amp charger. When I originally used it, it was ridiculously fast, literally 30% in about 30 or so minutes.
Now, here's why I don't think it has anything to do with the charger cables. When I got my phone, I kept putting off doing the first update because I wasn't sure if I was going to root this phone. During this time, I got very good charging speeds from my rocketfish 3.0 amp car charger and many of my other rapid chargers. When I decided I wasn't going to root, I went ahead and downloaded the update. Now, unless I'm using the cable that came with the phone, I get the slow charging message with every single charger. I went from 30% in 30 to about 10% in 30 on my car charger.
I may need to pull out my tinfoil hat, but it would be a pretty huge coincidence that all my charging woes began with that update.
Yea something isn't right. I have a GNex, G2, Nexus 7 2012 and 2013. I always check for AC charging in Settings>Status. It will say AC or USB. When I got my Nexus 7s I replaced all of my chargers with fast chargers. For 2 years I've been fast charging. I got 3 different fast USB chargers on my desk, using the existing setup, Everything fast charges except the G2. If I use the included G2 cable, it will fast charge off all of them. The same with ALL of my home/office/car/travel chargers.
I can only get it to fast charge when I use the included USB cable.
Its something magical with that cable.

I haven't even unwrapped the charging base and usb cable that came with my G2, they still remain in the box. I have been using the charging bases from my Nexus 4, L9, Htc One X, Motorola Atrix and a GS3 through out my house and have mixed cables from god only knows where and all of them work. I get no slow charging from any combination. Even using mini usb cables with micro usb adapters attached and they all still work. I've checked all the output voltages and the lowest one is 800mA. Granted my D801 is rooted, but no custom rom as of yet.

Have you gotten an OTA update?
I'm on the Verizon model. The other guy here said he only started having problems after the Verizon OTA.

Here's my theory,
There are chips either in the battery, the transformer, or both. When the phone doesn't detect what's required, it gives a slow charge message and reduces the charge speed. I have had previous phones with batteries that had built in chips that I had to buy because the generic batteries without the chips wouldn't work as well. I haven't taken a good look at the battery, and the transformer seems abnormally large, when I get a chance and some spares, I'll probably take them apart.
My tinfoil hat is telling me that LG is trying to rope us into buying first-party accessories, but it may also be a way to regulate battery health. Having a non-removable battery, it may be a move by LG to extend the life of the battery as long as possible.
Also, I just rooted my phone and so far no change. I will try the car charger tomorrow.
No updates from Tmobile as of yet... I can only imagine the frustration though. You would think LG would have made charging the phone, regardless of the model more standard across the board.

800mA is a slow charge... You should average 1700mA. Our cable is five pinned (if that matters). I need grab the mA reader app again. Now we know there is kernel check for flux ect. I want to know if the cable is pre chipped as well for check and regulation, isn't too uncommon. I'm beginning to lean more on an over aggressive kernel check though or possibly a combo of kernel and certain chip model check. I just find it odd my straight Verizon car charger and only this cable is working for me. Gonna check car cable pins in the morning. Verizon here, OTA taken. Did not check before.
