So I been installing Rom's lately on my rooted lg g2 D801. I was wondering if there is a way to do a full wipe that clears the storage side as well or would that brick my phone?
Well what custom recovery are you using. For example im using twrp and under wipe you click advanced and check all options including internal storage. Why do you want to do that? Youd then have to push your rom and files via adb in fastboot mode. I wouldnt do that ,but its been done.

You might have old roms you downloaded before installing you could delete. You could also have nandroid backups taking your space you could delete. Try installing nandroid manager from app store and see if it finds backups taking up space and delete them

What I do for a full wipe (with TWRP Recovery) is wipe system, data, dalvik, and cache - Flash my rom and gapps - and then wipe internal storage

Best way is to every now and then use USB otg. Move a backup to it or when you are about to fresh install a ROM put everything on USB otg and then wipe everything including internal. Then install ROM and gapps or whatever and you will have a super fresh internal storage. All folders and misc. Stuff left behind from multiple flashes will be formatted and you will have only what you need

I would like to ask that when I wipe data in recovery , what will actually be wipe, will my photo or music be wipe?
Sent from my MB526 using xda app-developers app
If you wipe data in recovery mode, it'll wipe everything. Everything.
I mean in custom recovery, if it will wipe everything even the zip in sd card then how can we actually flash rom? Sorry for my silly question, cause my previous phone can use sdcard which don't got this problem....
Sent from my MB526 using xda app-developers app
If you wipe data in recovery, it doesn't wipe your photos or music.
It only wipes your apps, system apps and their data. Also resets the phone.
Then only way you wipe your photos or music is if you go to;
mount and storage > format sdcard.
WHICH YOU DON'T WANT TO DO!
So if you want to flash a custom ROM;
In your recovery you;
Wipe data & Factory Reset
Go go Advance > wipe dalvik cache
Flash your ROM.

Thanks, that's mean it's just the same way as defy, how about how about flash a kernel? Because as defy's boot loader are locked, we can't actually flash a really kernel, just the 2nd boot kernel

Well if your bootloader is locked, look around the development thread for the nexus 4 utility 1.3.0
That unlocks, roots, install recovery and all sort of stuffs.
To flash a kernel to a stock or custom ROM;
Boot to recovery
Format Cache
Format dalvik cache
Flash
Reboot.

what would i have to do if i wanted to wipe my sd card? stock clean??
i've taken up 2gb of data because i tried to make a system back up but i've done it like 3 time and i can't find the backup zips so i just want to clean the SD card back to the begining without messing up the system data since i'm not flashing anything new
I have the same doubt. What is the best way to format SD card?. I did it once and had to inject the ROM with computer using ADb. Any alternative?

I rooted with casual and have the recovery installed. My question is I supposedly full wiped and flashed Goldeneye. My issue is it didnt full wipe because when I go into internal memory all the crap that should be gone, its folders are still there taking memory so I have to manually delete. Am I doing something wrong ?
When I had my htc a full wipe meant a full wipe Everything gone. Dont understand why its not happening on my s4.

go into recovery and do a factory reset, it will clear it.
Thanks
That dont work all the folders are still there even though the apps are not installed.

most recoverys are set up to format data without touching the internal storage. this is a feature, not a bug. if you want to wipe internal, go to format, then format internal. easy peasy

Here is what I do when I flash a ROM. I am a bit OCD for flashing cleanly.
1) Boot into Recovery
2) Wipe Data (Factory reset)
3) Wipe Cache
4) Wipe Dalvik Cache
5) Format /System
6) Format /sdcard
Then I flash my ROM. Those steps will definitely clean everything out before you flash. Especially formatting /system and /sdcard.

It's a little over kill. Just need to wipe the caches and data. If you wipe system, just make sure you do it before you flash a rom. And make sure you flash a rom before you boot. Wiping system and then rebooting is detrimental to your phone.

Ya it might be a little bit overkill, but atleast this way you know everything is cleaned and wiped before you flash your ROM. I hate dirty flashing ROMS, so I prefer to be really thorough.

EDIT: DO NOT FORMAT INTERNAL if you have twrp the part where you have to type in yes. You will have serious issues and will end up ODIN back to stock to repair. If you format internal in twrp phone will not boot up. You can enter recover but if you power off phone will not boot up again.
Hi,
I had the Faux Kernel 16 mako and wanted to get back to Stock Kernel because I wanted to update to 4.3. So I downloaded a Stock Kernel and flashed it. I didn't work it's stuck at the nexus start screen. So then I wanted to get back to 16 mako faux kernel and it's still the same.. It keeps loading. Can someone help how to fix this? Please?
Thank you so much in advance...
Does maybe the Recovery Kernel Faux help? The link is dead

Try wipe cache, dalvik, and system (assuming you're using twrp) (you won't lose any apps or data), then reflash your ROM and gapps without flashing a kernel.

Yes I'm using TWRP. Do you mean in the menue 'WIPE' which says FACTORY RESET Wipes Data, Cache and Dalvik (not includiung internal storage)?
I don't lose any apps and data right?

No don't do that, you will lose data.
Click on "Advanced wipe", then select only cache, dalvik cache, and system. Make sure you have a ROM zip file available in your phone's storage. Wipe those 3 things, then flash your ROM and gapps. You will not lose any apps or data. It will remove any leftover files from past kernels and you'll be back on your ROM's default kernel. I often do this when switching kernels. Not needed most of the time but I hope it helps you now.

Puh, I did the Advanced Wipe without DATA. The problem is that I don't have a ROM Zip on my phones storage. Can I somehow access to the storage to put the Stock Kernel on the phone and then install it? So confusing! I am so thankful for your help.

Wiping System essentially wipes the Android OS off your phone (but keeps your user apps and data), so once you wipe system you need to flash a ROM to be able to boot your phone. That's why I told you to have a ROM zip available.
You can use TWRP's built in file manager (Advanced -> File manager) to see if you have one on your phone. If you don't have any, you can use a root toolkit (like mskip's) to push a ROM zip from your PC to your phone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1995688 or use an adb push command.
How can I make it connected with adb? I always type in adb devices but my device is not listed. I have it connected via USB to my computer but it won't find it. How can I make it visible? Should I turn it off or have it on in the bootloader or recovery? Sorry
It didn't work... it said something with insecure boot blah? Jesus.. I'm getting crazy. I just want to put the stock rom on my phone..

I'm sorry, I'm not skilled at ADB. I believe USB debugging needs to be enabled, which is something you enable in Android. You may need to do some Googling to figure out how to push a ROM to your phone. The command is "adb push" so try searching that.
In general I always recommend keeping a copy of a working ROM zip on your phone just in case.
The toolkit I linked you earlier has the functionality to flash the Google stock ROM. That's something you can try as well. However that may cause you to lose your apps and data.
I am very desperate. I tried so much to just push a file on my phone with toolkit or adb.. now nothing really works. Does anyone know what I can do? When I use adb and try to push it always says read-only file.. do i have to do something before? It won't push.. I just want to add the stock rom on my phone. Is there any other way?
Ok, I somehow managed to push.. but I can't find it when I want to Select Zip Install the Stock Rom.. the file was TGZ. Is there the Stock rom as ZIP too? Or why is it not there where I pushed it?
Is it correct that a full wipe with stock recovery will wipe the internal card as well, while the full wipe made with a custom recovery will not?
Yep, had to experience that myslef

Well your internal storage is mounted at data/media so if you format data, i can only assume that media will go with it.

That Is weird indeed. Custom recoveries don't/shouldn't wipe internal sdcard while wiping data. Twrp used to but it doesn't anymore. And cwm has never wiped it AFAIK.

No. Most of the roms updater scripts are set wipe system partition and/or data and some have the option in aroma for the users to choose. But internal/external sdcards don't get wiped.

I believe there is option via for ex dr.fone software but unfortunatelly s4 blocking access. Wondering if I flash any non stock rom it will help
if they were stored on the internal and you formatted it, they are basically gone, as i don't think you can mount this in windows, you will only have limited access to certain files via the mtp interface.
if they were on your ext sd card, remove it and use a card reader to connect to your pc and try recovery software?
as have been deleted in stock Recovery I do not believe to be restored

This is part of how to install SlimKat
Reboot to recovery.
In recovery make a full wipe as per these instructions:
In CWM perform wipe data / factory reset and in mounts and storage section format system.
In TWRP choose advanced in wipe section and wipe dalvik cache, cache, system and data.
Flash SlimKat rom zip.
Flash SlimKat gapps zip.
Reboot, setup and enjoy.
What's up
You will delete,format again,wipe again
before install
