i think that the gapps you found will work on nexus 4. as far as i know gapps are the same in every phone. also you can install Root Uninstaller or anroid tuner or rom toolbox or any similar application to uninstall what you don't want manually. that is what i did

Yes, but i keep the rom and gapps i use saved on my phone so i dont have to re download them whenever i need to reflash them, and i prefer the smaller gapps so i dont have a 200MB file on my phone, when i could have a much smaller 20MB file on my phone. And ive never heard of being able to flash an N5 gapps to a N4. I hard bricked my last N4 flashing things made for a different phone.

i flashed gapps (for cm 10) that was ment for my old phone optimus black on a galaxy s3 mini running cm 10 and everything was ok. that is why i had the impression that gapps can be flashed everywhere on the same os version

Gapps are gapps people..... Its either for 4.1, 4.2 4.3 etc.... you get the picture. Now as far as minimal gapps they are all over the web and especially the two main players Banks and PA-Gapps. Now if they are not good enough for you simply extract the files from the zip file that you do not want to flash. Its really not that hard and you may learn something. I used to have script that deleted what I did not want after every rom/gapps flash

The thing is, if he didn't flash Gapps, he also likely doesn't have the Google Framework files, on which the Play Store (and the rest of the Gapps) relies.

Flash GAPPS. If PlayStore still doesn't appear (had this problem with my I9100), just flash twice in a row.
CyanogenMod wipes /system and installs itself without GAPPS - you have to reflash GAPPS everytime if you're using an AOSP based ROM.

true, but if I'm not totally mistaken it should be pointed out that this definitely doesn't apply:

so as long as you don't flash a new/different ROM you don't need to flash GApps. But even with minor updates I always would recommend to do the following (at least) when flashing a new ROM or an updated version:
- format system
- wipe cache
- wipe dalvik
- flash new ROM
- flash GApps
BTW this

hasn't to do with shortcomings of CM but with the license of GApps - pretty simple: GApps is not Open Source so devs shouldn't (aren't allowed to) include them with their ROMs

Install Jelly Bean 4.2 Keyboard from the market and use that one instead
I can't download from the market on account of I don't have a working keyboard. ill try downloading the apk.
there must be something wrong with gapps. it runs fine before installing gapps. after installing gapps i installed the keyboard but the rom is very unresponsive, the account setup kept glitching, couldnt get the market to connect to the internet, and the home button doesnt work. whats going on? would someone mind sending me a backup that is working and already has gapps installed or point me in the direction where i can find that.

I've tried a couple and the same thing happens. The one I've been using is gapps-jb-20121212.zip. I'll try again.
I'm downloading the one off of cyanogenmod website under nexus 7 grouper. I'm pretty sure I don't have the gsm version but I'll check.

I'm having the same difficulty with CM 10 on a Sony Xperia Arc. Have tried multiple kernels (included with CM Roms, or not) and Gapps packages. If it is possible to load a stock or other keyboard after flashing a ROM, I'd like to hear about this.

I need help?

I just flashed my N10 with Custom ROM CM10.1 but I realized I don't like it that much.
My N10 is rooted, and I do not know how to roll back to the stock rom because I forget to do a full backup. Please help, im running on 4.2.2
Thank you! I just want to roll back
Tim
Google search for factory image for Nexus 10. Or install a stock rooted 4.2.2 ROM from the development section, or try out other ROMs and see if you like them better.
I dont really understand though how you dont like CM10.1, it is the same as stock but with a couple more features and bugfixes. What could you possibly not like about it?
Just check out the sticky threads on the nexus 10 general forum. They have a thread with stock roms.
However my suggestion would be to try out more custom roms. They too are available on a sticky thread. Specially the vanilla rootbox one which is working great for me.

Try using carbon ROM and Trinity kernel I have that set up on my N10 and my N4 and both devices smoke man they are fast as hell....try rasbean too all of this is in the nexus 10 original development section ......if your looking for close to stock as possible try mmuzzy ROM its stock with performance enhancements ....don't fret man that's the best part flashing different ROMs and kernels to suit you best man :cyclops:
I suggest using AOKP Pub with the Trinity Kernel. Awesome combination, super smooth, good battery life and nice performance - plus a ton of options for customization
agreed with anazei

Take a deep breath man. When I saw this thread I thought you dropped it in the toilet or something. LOL Not a big deal, it is easy to go back. If your head is spinning because of all the different options available in CM play around with it for a few days, it will grow on you.

Well, the reason I do not like about the CM10.1 and most custom ROMs is that it doesnt support google play store and also it lacks the google pinyin(input method)which comes default on the nexus 10 and the google pinyin i download on the official site is way different than the default built-in one.

Nobody would use custom ROMs if they couldn't use the play store also you can pull the pinyin apk and install it to any custom rom

Well the reason Id want to flash back to my stock rom was because when I tried flashing gapps I cant get into rcovery mode i kept getting a dead android with exclaimation mark.

Then you have a corrupt download or something weird. Most ROM's need to flash a gapps package after the ROM gets flashed so you have the official Google apps like the play store. There are one or two ROMs with these apps built in but the "proper" way is to separate the apps into the different installs. Though if you use a ROM with an Aroma installer, I have always seen gapps get flashed as a part of that. Mr.Robinson's AOKP PUB is a good example of that.
Also in regards to pinyin you would have to flash to stock/rooted use something like es file explorer goto /system/apps copy the pinyin apk to your normal storage(virtual sdcard) then you can flash whatever you want and copy that apk back to /system/app set permissions to read write read read and maybe reboot. You should then have the one you want working.

N4 Btldr Unlck & Rooted Trying to Install Gapps

Hey Guys,
So I'm learning a lot and still have way more to learn. I rooted and flashed my N4 to the most current stable build of CM 10.1. I am trying to install gapps so I can possibly download some apps back on to my phone. Can anyone help me with this? Also, am I able to link my google account with CM 10.1 or no? No kernel has been flashed. All I have done so far is what I stated in the second sentence. Your kind words of experience is much appreciated.
Thx
stoned_pirate
You have to flash ROM then gapps and reboot. Any other apps your missing you can just download from the play store
From my BLACKED OUT N4
You can get the Gapps here: http://goo.im/gapps
Just flash the ROM then the Gapps and reboot. You're good to go. You don't need to flash a separate kernel if you don't want. You can run the stock CM kernel for a bit to see how you like it, then try some others to compare performance and battery. When you do, just flash the kernel zip and clear cache and dalvik cache only, then reboot.

[Q] Custom ROM lacking AOSP features/functionality

Hi all,
I just rooted to Carbon ROM and am able to scroll around and open applications etc, but my Home button isn't working, keyboard isn't available, gapps are missing etc. I loaded on the latest gapps (gapps/gapps-jb-20130813-signed.zip) through CWR but I guess these issues are pointing to the fact it hasn't worked? I might be wrong on this, so please correct me.
My phone has 4.3 android and loaded with SuperSU v 1.65.
Please help?
Thank you

It's a Nexus 4. I figure out the issue. It was basically an incorrect gapps file, so none of the basic phone features were working. Thanks though.
