As of 6:52pm Monday, Google announced the much awaited Kitkat update to Google Glass. It will be referred to as XE16, and will come out later this week! The full post can be found on Google Glass G+ page.
To summarize it will include these much awaited features:
- Photo Bundles: your photos will be stored into groups so it's easier to navigate the UI.
- Photo Replies: Using the hangout application you will have the option to reply with a photo instead of just text.
- Sending Feedback: A feedback menu has been added to the device info card.
- Voice Command Sorting: Be able to sort your voice commands based on frequency of use.
One main feature will be removed! Google has taken it upon themselves to remove the hangouts video call feature. It was not up to their standards, according to the official post.
What do ya guys/ gals think? Kitkat worth video call removal? Not enough features for the time it took? lets hear what ya gotta say below.
I've been waiting on this update for so long; I am so excited! I didn't use video calls very much. So, i'm not super bummed about it. But, i can understand why other people who do rely on this functionality would be disappointed about its removal. Kinda feel like that decision should have been left to the discretion of the users. But, ultimately, it sounds like they're expecting independent developers to fill the void for the time being. Regardless, i'm stoked, and i'm going to be checking the info card every day this week until the update comes out!
If Glass is now Kit Kat (and according to Google plus at least 50 people have got it) Why does XDA still say it runs ICS
(also why does it say; it's weightless, was released in 1969, and has a 0 inch screen)
The update before the update
I just was messing with my glass and plugged it in when the auto update started. The first update you'll get is the 12.1 update which seems to update the main system to get ready for the kitkat update. Then a little bit after the full update will come! I'm still waiting for the update to finish. I'll make sure to test out the main things people were having problems with and post my findings afterward. If you guys/ gals what me to try anything right away please let me know.

Android 4.1.1, Jelly Bean Software Update for the Motorola XOOM™ WIFI in the U.S.
Introduction - We are pleased to announce a new software update for the Motorola XOOM™ WIFI in the US. This Android 4.1.1 (JRO03H) software update includes numerous enhancements. Upgrade today for peak performance.
Who Can Use This Release - ALL Motorola XOOM U.S. WIFI users.
After downloading and installing the software release, you will notice:
Improved User Interface and Response - Android 4.1.1, Jelly Bean, is the fastest and smoothest version of Android yet. Moving between home screens and switching between apps is effortless, like turning pages in a book. Jelly Bean makes your Android device even more responsive by boosting your device’s CPU instantly when you touch the screen, and turns it down when you don’t need it to improve battery life.
Expandable, Actionable Notifications - Now you can take action directly from the notifications shade. And because the notifications are expandable, you can get an even deeper look into the things that matter most, like multiple emails or photos on Google+.
Widgets work like magic - With Jelly Bean it’s now even easier to personalize your home screen. As you place widgets on the screen, everything else automatically moves to make room. When they’re too big, widgets resize on their own. Interacting with your favorite apps and customizing your home screen has never been easier. Seamlessly view and share photos - Just swipe over from camera to filmstrip view to instantly view the photos you just took, and quickly swipe away the ones you don’t like. Now sharing--and bragging--are a breeze.
A Smarter Keyboard - Android’s dictionaries are now more accurate, more relevant. The language model in Jelly Bean adapts over time, and the keyboard even guesses what the next word will be before you’ve started typing it.
Improved Text-to-Speech Capability - With improved text-to-speech capabilities, voice typing on Android is even better; it works even when you don’t have a data connection.
Accessibility - With Jelly Bean, blind users can use 'Gesture Mode' to reliably navigate the UI using touch and swipe gestures in combination with speech output. Jelly Bean also adds support for accessibility plugins to enable external Braille input and output devices via USB and Bluetooth.
Voice Search - Android lets you search the web with your voice, and it’s convenient for getting quick answers on the fly. It speaks back to you and is powered by the Knowledge Graph, bringing you a precise answer if it knows it, and precisely ranked search results, so you can always find out more.
A new look for Search - Android has search at its core. With Jelly Bean, a redesigned experience uses the power of the Knowledge Graph to show you search results in a richer way. It’s easier to quickly get answers and explore and browse search results.
Nothing in there is unexpected really, but it sure is nice to see it all laid out. Now we'll go back to waiting for it to fully appear on some devices considering this release is just for those involved in the soak test, if you happen to see it land on your Xoom, we wouldn't mind you dropping by the forums and saying so.

when did you get that ....are you part of the soak test group ?
I would suspect that they are in the soak test or know someone who is.

I was going to do the soak test but gave them the wrong serial number and they couldn't push the update. I was out of town for the weekend and by the time i got around to do it, they told me that they already pushed out the test. So hopefully we will get something (official or leak) very soon.
He probably got it from here http://www.androidcentral.com/case-you-needed-confirmation-it-jelly-bean-will-be-arriving-xoom-wifi

Android 5.0 release date
Google has announced that its next developer conference - Google IO - will take place from May 15 to May 17 2013, a month earlier than 2012's June dates. Given that Google announced Android 4.1 Jelly Bean at 2012's IO conference, it's not unreasonable to expect to see Android 5.0 at this year's event On 31 January, a Google IO showing of Android 5.0 looked more likely when screengrabs of a Qualcomm roadmap were leaked, showing Android 5.0 as breaking cover between April and June 2013.
Android 5.0 phones
Rumours of a new Nexus handset started trickling in during the third quarter of 2012, as we reported on 1 October 2012. There was speculation that this phone would be sporting Key Lime Pie, but sources who spoke to AndroidAndMe correctly claimed that the handset, which turned out to be the Google Nexus 4 would be running Android Jelly Bean.
While the Nexus 4 didn't appear with a helping of Key Lime Pie, speculation that we reported on 21 January 2013 suggests that the Motorola X Phone is the Android 5.0-toting handset that will be revealed at Google IO. According to a post on the DroidForums website, the phone will also feature a virtually bezel-free, edge-to-edge, 5-inch display.
The same leaked Qualcomm documents cited above also made mention of a two new Snapdragon devices, one of which will be, unsurprisingly, a new Nexus phone.
Android 5.0 features
For 24 hours, it seemed as though the first kinda, sorta confirmed feature for Android 5.0 was a Google Now widget, which briefly appeared in a screenshot on the company's support forum before being taken down. As it was so hurriedly pulled, many people assumed it was slated for the big five-o and accidentally revealed early.
As it happened, the following day, on 13 February 2013, the Google Now widget rolled out to Jelly Bean.
So while we wait on Key Lime Pie features to be revealed and scour the web for more Android 5.0 news, TechRadar writer Gary Cutlack has been thinking about what we want to see in Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie. Hopefully the new mobile OS will feature some of these things...
Performance Profiles
It's bit of a fuss managing your mobile before bed time. Switching off the sound, turning off data, activating airplane mode and so on, so what Android 5.0 really needs is a simple way of managing performance, and therefore power use, automatically.
We've been given a taste of this with Blocking Mode in Samsung's Jelly Bean update on the Samsung Galaxy S3 and the Note 2 but we'd like to see the functionality expanded.
Something like a Gaming mode for max power delivery, an Overnight low-power state for slumbering on minimal power and maybe a Reading mode for no bothersome data connections and a super-low backlight.
Some hardware makers put their own little automated tools in, such as the excellent Smart Actions found within Motorola's RAZR interface, but it'd be great to see Google give us a simple way to manage states.
Another little power strip style widget for phone performance profiles would be an easy way to do it.
Better multiple device support
Google already does quite a good job of supporting serious Android nerds who own several phones and tablets, but there are some holes in its coverage that are rather frustrating.
Take the Videos app which manages your film downloads through the Play Store. Start watching a film on one Android device and you're limited to resuming your film session on that same unit, making it impossible to switch from phone to tablet mid-film.
You can switch between phone and web site players to resume watching, but surely Google ought to understand its fans often have a couple of phones and tabs on the go and fix this for Android Key Lime Pie?
Enhanced social network support
Android doesn't really do much for social network users out of the box, with most of the fancy social widgets and features coming from the hardware makers through their own custom skins.
Sony integrates Facebook brilliantly in its phones, and even LG makes a great social network aggregator widget that incorporates Facebook and Twitter - so why are there no cool aggregator apps as part of the standard Android setup?
Yes, Google does a great job of pushing Google+, but, no offence, there are many other more widely used networks that ought to be a little better "baked in" to Android.
Line-drawing keyboard options
Another area where the manufacturers have taken a big leap ahead of Google is in integrating clever alternate text entry options in their keyboards. HTC and Sony both offer their own takes on the Swype style of line-drawing text input, which is a nice option to have for getting your words onto a telephone. Get it into Android 5.0 and give us the choice.
A video chat app
How odd is it that Google's put a front-facing camera on the Nexus 7 and most hardware manufacturers do the same on their phones and tablets, yet most ship without any form of common video chat app?
You have to download Skype and hope it works, or find some other downloadable app solution. Why isn't there a Google Live See My Face Chat app of some sort as part of Android? Is it because we're too ugly? Is that what you're saying, Google?
Multi-select in the contacts
The Android contacts section is pretty useful, but it could be managed a little better. What if you have the idea of emailing or texting a handful of your friends? The way that's currently done is by emailing one, then adding the rest individually. Some sort of checkbox system that let users scroll through names and create a mailing list on the fly through the contacts listing in Android Key Lime Pie would make this much easier.
Cross-device SMS sync
If you're a constant SIM swapper with more than one phone on the go, chances are you've lost track of your text messages at some point. Google stores these on the phone rather than the SIM card, so it'd be nice if our texts could be either backed up to the SIM, the SD card, or beamed up to the magical invisible cloud of data, for easy and consistent access across multiple devices.
A "Never Update" option
This would annoy developers so is unlikely to happen, but it'd be nice if we could refuse app updates permanently in Android 5.0, just in case we'd rather stick with a current version of a tool than be forced to upgrade.
Sure, you can set apps to manual update and then just ignore the update prompt forever, but it'd be nice to know we can keep a favoured version of an app without accidentally updating it. Some of us are still using the beta Times app, for example, which has given free access for a year.
App preview/freebie codes
Something Apple's been doing for ages and ages is using a promo code system to distribute free or review versions of apps. It even makes doing little competitions to drum up publicity for apps much easier, so why's there no similar scheme for Android?
It might encourage developers to stop going down the ad-covered/freemium route if they could charge for an app but still give it away to friends and fans through a promo code system.
Final whinges and requests...
It's be nice to be able to sort the Settings screen by alphabetical order, too, or by most commonly used or personal preference, as Android's so packed with a huge list of options these days it's a big old list to scroll through and pick out what you need.
Plus could we have a percentage count for the battery in the Notifications bar for Android 5.0? Just so we know a bit more info than the vague emptying battery icon.

Repost of my google+ post "+BenRoberts83/posts/6vn3vFEdtAK"
I've been looking at the Hangouts APK. You can almost definitely expect to see some new features announced at I/O.
From what I can tell hangouts it getting a major update. This latest apk (2.1.311) has quite a bit of new code. Just from an cursory look, I think we can expect to see...
1. Google Voice integration.
No surprise here. Google Voice's integration was only on hold because of some security issue and they had to force developers to use a new API for accessing GVoice. The last day to transition off the old system was almost a month ago. And the amount of references to "Voicemail" in the code, shot up substantially.
2. Google Wallet integration
The amount of code with wallet mentioned in it seems to have shot up. I'm hoping this may actually be a feature to pay a person through hangouts. That would be pretty neat.
3. Remote support
It looks like google may be taking a page from Amazon's playbook and adding a remote control and support feature. I'm guessing this will likely be "helpouts" being rolled in to a remote user being able to show you how to do things on your device. This is purely speculation now.
4.The rest.
I'll leave these up to you to take what you will from them. Here is a list of new folders that seem to have been added. (along side folders like plus, maps, games, etc)
analytics
cast
drive
feedback
gcm (looks to just be some networking callbacks)
identity
playlog
tagmanager
wearable
I'm wondering how many XDA folks have ordered the new Flame reference phone? I was able to check it a few weeks ago and have to say its an even more polished device then the ZTE Open and Keon. I'm looking forward to getting one soon.

If they had a "Flame Mini" with a maximum 3.5" screen and physical shutter button, I'd bite.
The price and specs are to far apart for me to buy, that price I can buy an octa core android phone, $100 max on a dual core even $100 is to much, but willing to let slide. I simply can't justify paying $170 for a dual core when I know for a fact I can get an 8 core for less. I am out on the flame.
I've been thinking about it, especially since my Nexus One is about to bite the metaphorical dust, but I'm not sure. I've grown quite accustomed to Android over the past couple of years, and though I know that rationally, my Nexus 7 can still run ParanoidAndroid to satisfy that part of me, it's quite the jump.
So, possibly. Once my N1 decides it's time to die, anyhow. Should be anytime within the next couple of weeks.

Hi,
I got my flame last friday. German customs and DHL wanted 52 Euro before they handed the device over to me. So in total I paid now around 170 Euro.
Putting this aside, after 3 days of extensive usage, I can tell following things:
It comes with firefox os 1.3.0.0-prelelease (git commit: 2014-06-16 5c43d012)
Pro:
- Dual Sim capabilities are working nearly perfectly, having my private sim as first one using internet and in/outgoing calls and my buisness sim put into the second slot for receiving calls. Doing a call over the second sim requires to get into settings menu and reassign the outgoing calls to second sim, which is a little inconvenient.
- Hardware seems very well built and due to the weight, the device feels very valueable.
- I like the design
- Firefox OS boots very fast and runs then without any glitches or freezes, it feels responsible like android device with 2.2 ghz processor.
- Applications start instantly, almost no waiting.
- Chatting using various protocols (Whatsapp, jabber, irc) works quite well using apps from marketplace.
- Surfing the web works perfect, especially the scrolling feels so natrual, no noticable delay.
Neutral:
- Battery lasting just about 15-16 hours under normal load (Chatting from time to time, browsing and about 30 minutes of youtube videos), but as I'm usually having a powerpack or usb available wherever I go, this is no real showstopper for me.
Cons:
- The camera. Pictures just look aweful, in case you are not lighten your object with a bulb as powerful as the sun. Pictures with enabled flash are even worse.
- It's hard to search for information, as google always thinks you mean "firefox" instead of "firefox os"
I'll now dig into app development and start "programming" or better scripting some stuff.
kind regards,
--peter;
Mine arrived in Perth, Western Australia on Friday also but I was away at work and so only picked it up on Monday.
Thanks for the brief review, I too like the heft and feel of mine. Not tested the cameras yet ...
The screen cover feels like glass ... I sure hope it is because I haven't been able to find a protective cover for it yet.
I'm trying to "educate" google by attaching FxOS to the word Firefox whenever I search and it seems to help. FxOS by itself doesn't show much (yet!) but the personal "filter bubble" should kick in soon. Some people fear the "Google Filter Bubble" but it is useful in cases like this.

Those who got their Flame this week, did you unpack it carefully enough to keep the Recovery Cable?
Mine was not inside the box but just loose in the bubble wrap bag. No sign yet of the companion "Emergency Download Tool" software. I hope it's not too far away because I'd like to backup the factory rom the try FxOS 2, help with debugging etc. which of course will increase of probability of temporary "brick" creation.
I found wifi certificates for what seems like our phone where it's described as:-
Company TCT Mobile Ltd.
Product Foxfone One
Model Number Flame
Anyone know whether it's a close enough match to another model in the Alcatel One Touch range to buy covers and screen protectors for it?
Actually if you are a developer and want to port your apps to Firefox OS there is a program that lets you get a Flame for free in Mozilla Hacks hacks(dot)mozilla(dot)org/2014/05/build-your-next-app-with-a-flame/
Yet you have to meet some requirements
Instructions for using Emergency download mode, a link to the Thundersoft Emergency Download Tool software, and instructions for updating the rom, all the way to the still unstable version 2.1 nightly builds.
https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/Firefox_OS/Developer_phone_guide/Flame
Excellent support from Mozilla and Thundersoft, this phone could become a classic, if this continues.
Here is a quick review of the new MIUI update. Another useless update from Xiaomi. We have some new so called features in the ROM which we are gonna discuss.
1. The calculator [Discount Feature]
First of all, this thing is mathematically incorrect. Secondly, you just eliminated use of 1 or 2 button and called it an update. Also, when you go to a shop and there's a discount then you can ask the shopkeeper what will be the actual price instead of taking out your phone doing useless stuff and being looked at.
The normal procedure is this:
10000 - 10000*15%
and now it is:
10000 - 15%
Just look at it and tell me which one looks more convincing. And please tell me what are the situations in which I would use this feature, like I am dying or something so that I need to do a quick calculation? I am already wasting my time on shopping and if I waste few seconds on typing some extra numbers, it won't matter.
Preferable Features to be added in calculator:
->Just look at any Casio scientific calculator and implement those features, like:
->Graphing function
->the 'Ans' key feature - do you know this feature? with this you can summon the last answer whenever you want, just look at any Casio scientific calculator, this feature is damn useful ask anyone.
->Integration, differentiation, etc
2. Redesigned Music App
Not for global user, but looking at it even if it were for global user, I won't call it an update, because first of all it looks as cartoonish as before, the app isn't even good looking. I won't open that thing in public place because I don't want to be ridiculed at. I have heard that the Chinese version of the app has online music feature, if that's true then the feature is great but the design, i just don't like it.
Redesign of music app isn't called an update, but this is Xiaomi. So, even if you change an app's icon, it can be called an update.
3. Mi Finance
Again it's not for global user and even if it were, I won't call few bug fixes and changes in a companion app of MIUI an update to the system.
Verdict:
Yet another waste of 1 GB of your data, I don't recommend applying it. There are no bug fixes, just useless stuff. Tell us in the poll would you apply this update?
Well for MIUI progress you should head over to their community.
Btw... You could simple calculate 10000*0,85 ?
For me I don't care about these minor updates... And 1gb? I don't care either.
This is why I wiped off MIUI and moved to LineageOS.
MIUI beta updates are joke.
they could just give app update via store rather than giving rom update.
:silly:
