Notification freeze/burn - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi.
On my Samsung notification bar there is another notification bar overlapping the new one when I´m viewing it from the lock screen.
It`s always the same one that seems to bee burnt in or freezed over the current time and date and battery indicator.
When I open the lock screen it disappears and the notification bar is back to normal.
Have anyone encountered something like this?

AMOLED has the tendency to burn in when it's set to the same screen a long time. This shouldn't happen right out of the box though. You should get that model replaced.

Defect. Get it replaced.

Oki, tnx guys.
But it can't be a burn in, because it happened soon after it was turned on for the first time, and there is absolutely no trace of the error other than when the lock screen is on. It`s like the lock screen notification bar haven't updated since the first time the error occurred.

Try factory reset, if that doesn't fix it get it replaced.

Dead Zone Status Bar

I've got a problem..after about an hour of use when I try to bring up the menu notifications, this does not happen .. so I tried to touch and I noticed that the area where the status bar is not detected by the touch, as if she were dead .. i reboot and everything is back to normal .. then after an hour the problem appears again.
I changed the kernel, the rom but the problem is still here. I think that an app cause the problem.. but which one? How i can find it?
Try wipe and try stock rom/kernel
I have already done..
Did you try it after wiping with no added apps?

Yes, it seems there are problems.. i hope so!
Now install an app a day until i find the one responsible.

have you found ?
To use the notification drawer without touching the top bar... U can use gestures to activate the notification bar... Use a custom launcher... I use nova launcher prime and a two finger down scroll to activate the drawer... Cheers

Lockscreen question.

Hi. We recently upgrades two phones to the s4. One black and one white. Both are basically setup the same with GO lockscreen and launcher. The black one doesnt aeem to have problems but the white one will ´hang' or freeze on the lockscreen for about a minute every other time. Already tried hard resetting and wiping cache to see if that would fix anything...oh and also the white one will display the message no room on home screen (?) On the bottom and the oddest times even when im using the xda app
If anyone could let me know how ro fix this or if at this point I should just exchange this one for another...

I'm having the same problem with my GT-I9500. When I lock the screen and then few seconds later when I press the home button the lockscreen freezes for like 30 seconds and then it starts working again. I'm with the Stock ROM.
There shouldn't be any difference since they are the same model with same framework and only the color is different! Are you on stock ROM or a custom ROM? Just asking because maybe something went wrong during the custom ROM installation?
Anyway, I don't see a reason for the problem, and I would just recommend to try restoring the phone to it's original status (i.e. re install the latest stock framework and wipe everything off the phone). It might just work!
All the best!

I had this problem on the Galaxy S2. It seems to be a problem with Exynos since I don't have this issue on i9505.

Text notification on lock screen

I know someone else with an S4 and they claim they never had this notification on the lock screen when they received a text, only the little icon in the alert bar. All of a sudden it started showing up on the lock screen for them. They don't have the option enabled to preview the texts, was a way every found out to disable this without a third party app? I wasn't even aware some people didn't have it, it's always been on mine and never bothered me.

There's an option in Messaging>settings, scroll down to 'notification settings', then 'preview message' - show a preview of received messages on the status bar and lock screen. Mines ticked and I get the lock screen text notification, so I assume if you untick you won't. I find it quite useful as it can be hard to see the small one in the status bar.

Her's isn't ticked and neither is mine. All that does is show part of the message on the lock screen, disabling it still shows the alert on the lockscreen, just as "New Message".

OK strange, are you both on the same firmware, could it be something Samsung tweaked in their latest update?

I'm still on stock firmware, not sure what she is on or even what carrier she's using. The only thing she said she did was install the Jellybean keyboard and that's when she noticed the notification, but I don't see how that would enable the message alert.

Was thinking more of Samsung firmware version rather than stock/custom ROM.
As per the different versions in the link below. These are the updates that Samsung push out if you're on stock.

The kernel version? Mine is 3.4.0-562219 on Android 4.2.2. No clue what she has, I'll find out tomorrow.

Wallpaper problem - Kitkat 4.4

Installed Android 4.4 via adb sideload onto 2x Nexus 4 and 1x Nexus 7 (2012). Installation was smooth as the rom is stock (un-rooted).
While trying to change the wallpaper (which I used earlier in 4.3), the wallpaper does not center anymore. Tried with multiple wallpapers meant for Nexus 4 and 7 respectively.
I later launched airdroid and saw --> com.android.wallpapercropper running in the background and consuming anywhere between 33-44MB of RAM.
The cropping tool to select the wallpaper no longer appears in Android 4.4. Anyone else facing similar issues?

Has anyone raised a bug with Google on this? If not, any idea how to submit a bug?
Wondering if the wallpapers are the proper res for nex 4. Possibly a small detail that needs to be corrected in the build env.

solved?
ok i figured out how to center my wallpaper image on the lockscreen.
using the oem launcher, on the desktop, swipe from left to right, to the last screen on the left...
hold down finger on screen till choose wallpaper option comes up, pick image from gallery and save as wallpaper....
shut off screen via power button press, press power button to wake device to lock screen...
image should be center on lock screen.. if its not, you didn't do it right, try again.
default screen in stock launcher is the screen all the way to the left... lame but whatever.
now you can set your default launcher to your choice, ie NOVA - APEX - WHATEVER and your lockscreen wallpaper is aligned

The problem happens when we set any photo as wallpaper, after restarting the phone, the picture appears as if it had applying a zoom.
have the same problem
I have the same problem with Nexus 7 2013 on KitKat.
Because the photo wallpaper will automatically zoomed in, now I'm using 3rd party wallpaper apps.
I'm just wondering how the app set wallpaper without being zoomed in. If the logic of setting wallpaper is the same, it should be zoomed.

That works for the centering, but after the power cycle the image (if a huge res is used) is blown up to a section of the picture and not how it was originally set as.
It's crazy that it lets you use a whole image for the wallpaper yet when the device rotates or power cycles it buggers it all up..
I had the same problem on stock 4.4.2. I even f-reset my nexus 4 but uh it didn't worked. in wallpaper cropper, if you choose it as is (positioning), it will be positioned in the hard left screen, so choose the half of the image like this

Notification Pull-down Lag

About every twelfth time I pull down my notifications, the bottom half shows the app behind it. After about a second, the bottom changes to display the notification pull-down properly. Any ideas?
Edit: I forgot to mention I'm stock towelrooted, but had the same problem unrooted.

Same issue, though I have grown to ignore it.
