Location method problem - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When I switch to 'Power saving' mode under Location method, my GPS is switching on too. But, Power saving mode is WiFi + mobile. When I switch off GPS, the whole Location thing is switching off.
I can't find something about this, so maybe someone has an idea?

Try resetting the phone by taking the battery out when on

Thanks, but didn't help. And I already have done a factory reset and formatting

Sorry I guess I misunderstood your question...
If you tap off the toggle that says GPS, yes that turns off all locations services... Is working as designed.

Really strange.
I got 3 options.
1. High accuracy (wifi+gps+mobile)
2. Power saving (wifi+mobile)
3. GPS only
You're saying, that option 2 is not existing?
It should only use wifi+mobile. NOT gps.
So it's not working properly. Before the update to NC9 firmware, it was working fine.

Quoting you..... "When I switch off GPS, the whole Location thing is switching off"
Yes that is how it works, if you tap the GPS toggle from the notifications......
Now... for this..."When I switch to 'Power saving' mode under Location method, my GPS is switching on too" let me do some test and get back to you...

Well, yesterday I flashed back to the NC4 firmware and it's working again

Flashed another NC9, and again the same problem. Guess that's why there are so few NC9 firmwares.

Good app for airplane mode and phone signal turnoff?

I tried a couple of apps or widgets for airplane mode, but for some reason I couldn't even get them working. Could someone recommend a good app/ toggle / widget?
Also is there any app or widget to turn off the N4 cellular signal receiver?

long press the power button?
^this, or pull down the notification centre with two fingers.
Did you try Widgetsoid?
I do the "Power Button" for Airplane Mode.
For Mobile Data:
Widgets > Settings shortcut > Data usage
When you open it, you can turn on and off Mobile data, and still use WiFi and receive calls and SMS messages.
Didn't Google prevent non root apps from activating/deactivating airplane mode with Android 4.2? I just use Tasker with the secure settings plugin
Thanks everyone for the suggestions! I really appreciate it...
I still haven't found one app that would allow me to put a toggle on the home screen so that with one touch I can turn off or on the airplane mode. It seems all the suggestions require two or more touches?
Is there any toggle that with one touch on the home screen I can turn off/on the whole mobile network (not just data but also calls/messages) with wifi remaining on? I can't believe such a thing doesn't exist!
Try "Widgetsoid" or "Extended Controls". Been using them heavily before and they work pretty well. Although I havent tried recently since I went with a minimalist home screen.
Try power toggles.. U can add a lot of new ones in settings

Am I the only one wondering why he thinks having to do 2 touches actually is a problem?

thanks for your opinion. OK, not a big deal with two touches for the airplane mode. Care to share your experience regarding the following question?
Is there any app with which one can turn off/on the whole mobile network (not just data but also calls/messages) with wifi remaining on, regardless how many touches involved?

I use power toggles and the airplane toggle is not a true toggle. It takes you to the menu.

Galaxy s4 gps does not start

In Google map or other apps that requires Gps, the GPS does not start up automatically. I have to turn the GPS off and then on. All position services are turned on.
Anyone with this issue? Solution?
I'm on stock android from June. Since my phone is a corporate phone, I cannot root it and install a custom ROM.

Same here I9505, first with Djembey rooted MGA and now (it worked fine and suddenly happened again) in omega 13.2.
The only thing I noticed different is that google settings changed to grey icon and location report and history activated on its own.
Please, help...
Edit: installed GPS status app, it detects it's on, but not searching satellites, I switch GPS off and it's detected as off... so basically is like it enters in an hibernation state? Weird
Reinstalled omega and now is working, I don't know...

Proman99, I suggest you to flash via ODIN latest official Rom or reset mobile and see if it works

[Q] WiFi and GPS always on, as if they were used

I've remarked that when my Galxy S4 is locked/sleep mode there is wifi and GPS that are always on.
I've done the following :
Keep wifi on when on sleep : only when plugged in
Wifi and mobile network location : OffĂ
Mobile data is turned off
I don't know what else to do in order that those 2 things stop using battery life when on sleep mode...
PS: You can see that on my battery usage statistic, GPS ON (almost always) and Wifi too. Some off moments were there because I turned them off to do some testings.
Use juice defender
Try factory retore settings
This should fix ur problem:thumbup:

I prefer not using any other third-party application in order to make this. It must be something in the normal settings that may cause this. I'll try a factory restore, but I don't think this is what will solve the problem because I just received the phone...

Is your location services by any chance set to using WiFi, Mobile Data And GPS? If yes, turn it back to GPS only.
Done that, even tried disabling location service no joy

try turning off the network auto switch perhaps?
you can find it in Mobile Network section in Settings
I tried that it works partially, in a sense, if I turn off wifi, it brings on mobile data, but the main issue is the wifi is getting turned on in seconds of being turned off manually

Issue resolved, it was avast antitheft, disabled and renabled, all issues resolved

No wifi

Guys I'm trying to fix my daughters phone, I've looked around and I tried a few things to no avail.
The issue is the phone is on 4.4.2 nb1 from an ota update. The phone used to be my sister in law's. Before she gave it to my daughter she did a factory reset and now Bluetooth and WiFi both won't turn on. No matter what you do.
I tried to Odin a stock nb1 image to see if maybe the ota update was corrupted or something but it only starts and runs for like 2 seconds before it will just hang and do nothing.
Any ideas?

Try turning wifi power save mode off. Dial *#0011#, press menu then wifi and then switch it off and see if it does anything.
