Overwhelmed? Just use as you would cwmr with keys only

Thanks I will try it out when I get home. Trying to root a friends M I did my HTC M8 and used TWRP on it. Would you know of a good stock looking debloated ROM. Thanks
Sent from my HTC6525LVW using xda app-developers app

Would the same recovery I used for mine work for a Razr M or are they device specific?
Sent from my HTC6525LVW using xda app-developers app

They are device specific. Is your friend's M unlocked?

Not yet just getting everything together program wise so I can do it all in one shot. Going to root it unlock the bootloader do a recovery and nandroid backup. Thanks for the help
Sent from my HTC6525LVW using xda app-developers app

Just a heads up, if he's on the latest build you won't be able to unlock his BL.

The build number says 9.8.1Q-94. If the bootloader can't be unlocked can the above still be done minus the bootloader part. Sorry if these are dumb still new to all this
Sent from my HTC6525LVW using xda app-developers app

You can't unlock on the last 2 updates, .94 being the latest. You won't be able to use a true custom recovery, but you can root with Safe Root. Then, you can use Safe Strap to make backups and load some ROMs.

Ok will have to look up the other program and do some more research. I really appreciate the information and guidance thanks again

I noticed it after a while too. I guess the big UNLOCKED got me off track. Still root is needed
htcdev sucks. recovery cannot install kernels.
you need to either:
1)install your boot image with fastboot,
or
2)launch your recovery into memory with the fastboot boot command, then install your rom normally
i personally would try and downgrade back to an older build so you can root via revolutionary. older builds were downgradeable just by changing the main version, hopefully that hasnt changed.
since your unlocked and have a recovery:
-install this superuser to gain root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053 (download link reads UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.04.zip)
-you can try changing the main version by flashing this zip: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23169557&postcount=4 (make sure to thank drellis and con)
-check that the zip worked with the fastboot command fastboot getvar mainver or fastboot getvar all
-if the zip works, relock and,try flashing an ruu that contains hboot 1.04
im out the door to work, but if you need help with the specifics,i can help you later. i believe that should work. if this thread gets moved,PM me a new link
A way to root has been found but the HTC dev method is the only way to unlock the new hboot atm. A way to downgrade is being looked into also. The current downgrade ruu doesn't work with the new hboot either. If you know how to modify the ruu so it can be used for downgrade that would be fantastic.

You cant modify the downgrade ruu.it needs to be stock, and signed. You just need to change the main version.
Try what I suggested above,I'm 99% sure it will work. I can put together some specific directions, but I can't really test since my tb is radio s off.

Sent from my ADR6400L using xda app-developers app
Okay, I admit it, I am confused, despite having flash ROMs for over a year now. What exactly are the steps to get from point A, completely factory stock with the ICS upgrade, to point B, unlocked and rooted so that I can flash a rom? Or am I misunderstanding, and there is no such route at this point? I have the greatest respect for everyone on this site who takes the time to help people out. Thank you very much.

Awsome sauce! glad it worked for you guys. I can do a noob friendly set of directions in the next couple days, and if yall have seen a working temp root, link it to me and we can do a no htcdev unlock version as well.
For those that don't like manual methods, hopefully trter will add dowmgrade to his all in one tool.
Did yall go all the way back to hboot 1.04,or to 1.05?

Newby here (to the RAZR M)

What is required to (firmware version) root, unlock and flash a custom recovery?
I've looked here in the forums but I couldn't find anything. Unless if I'm blind as a bat. Haha.
But seriously.
Thank you anyone who helps out.

Matts utility will do all the work for you. Just make sure you have a full battery charge.
I did it. Its unlocked and currently running the latest Cm10.1.
Wish I could change the start up screen though. Then again I don't really restart my phone that often.

[Q] Help please :)

Bootloader unlocked...running 4.1.2....but I lost root access. Please help!!
Also, can anyone please suggest a ROM as well...I've been reading on here about Pac, Carbon, CM....this will be my first time installing a ROM so any and all suggestions/assistance is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance
It is pretty unusual to lose root access suddenly. Just to be sure. Go on or play store and get root checker to see if u have or haven't got root access.

[Q] How to get stock big M splash screen?

I recently tried to use the deadcalm rom on my razr m, but I had an error 7 or something like that, but it still installed the custom splash screen. I wiped the system and deleted the rom slot but it shows up on my stock rom slot as well. Anyone have any advice? It's not affecting anything. I just want to know how. Locked BL by the way

If you go to their mods from the op & goes to another site - there is a restore.flash.

You could just install Xposed & GravityBox it will fix your navi bar however you want. Google it w/ "xda".
