Best SD Card?

I recently bought a 16GB Patriot MicroSD card, class 10. I find that after 24 hours of use, things start to fall apart (I've tried several different SD builds). I also have Sandisk 16GB Class 2 card that runs my daily Android software; never had a problem with it in 2 months. I follow the same procedure when attaching the card via a reader and removing it from my computer. I also use the same procedure when attaching the phone to my PC. I have concluded that the new Class 10 card is failing. My questions are:
1. Is anyone using a Patriot 16GB Class 10 card with success?
2. Can you give me an opinion of the best 16GB card when using Android on the HD2?
3. Could the Patriot card be too fast for the HD2?
4. Is there a maximum class rating I should not go over?

Same is true with my very old Adata 16gb Class 2. But, I was hoping to get a bit more speed.

I think class 10 is too fast (and expensive XD ) for the HD2,
I got Kingston 16GB Class 4 and it works perfectly.

Hey all. I've got a 16gb Patriot class 10 installed, been using 1week now with no issues, Cotulla's Nand stock desire rom. Seem a little faster than the stock provided card, not sure if was worth the $ for the slight boost though.

3/19/2011 - my 16gb patriot still no issues. Mine has been formatted multiple times and been re-partitioned with ext3 and even split for dual boot wp7 and hyperdroid gbx v7 and now v9 and have noted no sdcard related problems. Have downloaded and deleted multiple apps, and currently have 6gb of full DVDs on it. Have noted with all SD cards, you gotta pay attention when you're instructed to mount/dismount card via phone or when in mass storage mode connected to PC via USB, or when in PC using card reader or data can get corrupted. Hmmm, I absolutely can't seem to keep it from crashing. Right now I'm experimenting with another class 2 card to see if I can manage to destroy the installation again. Glad it's working for you. Might the difference be that I'm running an SD version from the card using the current stock HTC ROM?

32GB SD card issue w/2.3.3 resolved

I recently upgraded my phone to 2.3.3 from 2.1.
After upgrading, my phone no longer detected my 32GB SD.
I spent a lot of time researching the issue and found that most people just went to a smaller card like I did.
I went out and bought a 4GB card.
After loading my phone up with apps and audio and images, 4GB was not enough.
So, here is how I resolved this...
I downloaded HPUSBDisk.exe which is an HP USB format tool.
Copied the content of my 4gb micro to my PC/Laptop.
I inserted my 32GB micro SD into a "micro sd USB adapter"...
Format the SD using the HP USB format tool (FAT).
Copy the contents from the 4GB to the 32GB.
When I placed the 32GB into the phone and powered it up it was now recognized.

16 GB are not really a issue.

I use a 32gb from Kingston and have no issues. ??? Think maybe it's not the memory size that is the problem. Maybe it got corrupted? I had that problem on a smaller card on a round of back to stock while playing around with ROMs and such. Formatted it on PC and all was fine... think it was 8? Was a while a go. But I've heard of it happening while updating, read about it after I had the issue with the card that came with my x10.

1. X10i officially supports cards by a capacity no more than 16 Gb. However, most cards 32 Gb work normally too.
2. A card can be formatted by standard facilities of Windows, it is important only, that a clustersize was 32 Kb

I have an X10a... but whatever.
When I flashed my 32gb SD using Win7, regardless of the cluster size, it would not work in my phone. Period.
I am NOT the only one who has had this problem nor am I the only one who found success in my method.
The 32gb I have in my phone right now, was formatted using the HP Tool at 16kb...
Screw this place... you bunch of pompus jack-wads.

I can see some merit to your argument, i use HP Tool myself.
It's way more elegant for this kind of stuff.

(obviously the original specs, mine came with 8GB)

Yes but quite a few cards seem to have bad compatibility.

I'm curious if it's a certain class of cards that cause issues, or if it's certain vendors or brands? Do certain brands format them different and that causes the issue?
I researched what class was supported and bought a brand name (Kingston) that isn't high end but from a reputable business so I knew it wasn't fake. Bought a 32gb class 4 Kingston from Tiger Direct, popped it in and it worked fine. I put it in and tried it before transferring data to it.
I'm definitely not discounting the issue, but finding out WHY the issue is there is what I'm curious about.

i heard SDHC work the best but i'm idk the difference really, all i care about is the memory on the card

MY 16GB class 4 & 32GB class 6 KINGSTON both worked very well with no issue's.

Having the same problem!
I just upgraded my X10a to 2.3.3 and it's not detecting my 8gb SD card, I re-intalled the 2.1 android and the card worked fine, then I upgraded it again to 2.3.3 and formated the card, didn't work... I don't know what to do now!

Hi, I've been having a problem with mi 8GB SD card, the thing is that I just Upgraded my X10 to 2.3.3, but it's not detecting the micro SD, it was working fine till I did the upgrade, so I took the card and plug it into the PC, it is working, then I tried changing the fortmat, didn't work either, so I changed it back to Android 2.1 and It got it working again, I tried one more time to upgrade to Android 2.3.3 and the problem persists, all the apps and features are working just fine, but the phone it's kinda useless without the microSD...
Anyone that knows what the problem might be, please reply, cuase it's very frustrating!!

The stock 8GB card in my x10 died quite fast.
They get scratched underneath easily.

Hate to bump up an old-ish thread. But I came across the following article and the pertinent quote from it is "We tested this card on some phones including Motorola Razr and Samsung Galaxy S2 and even on a year old Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 and it works fine"
So it looks like this old dog was still able to use a 64GB micro sdxc card.
But at 110$ USD (cheapest I've found so far)... might not be worth it yet.

I just got my new SD HC (32Gb) card for my htc HD2 device, but im getting weird crashes when i just put some Gb of for example music. It deletes some of it, or changes it to thousands of 0byte weird files..
Can someone help?

I'm really not certain about this, but their a limit on the size SD card our hd2's can support. (Either 16 or 32gb which is what I'm uncertain of) try formatting your new SD card into two 16 gb partitions and then see what happens.
Hopefully either that helps or someone with more knowledge than I will comment and give you a better answer

Well the limit is definitely not 16gb because I have one of those and it works fine in Android but it for some reason cannot boot SD Android. Also, if I'm not mistaken MarkAtHome (I've seen him in many of the NAND threads, especially NexusHD2) has a 64GB SDXC card as he was posting something about that a while ago. He'd have to confirm though.

Where did you get your memory card?? You son are a victim of false advertisement. I purposely purchased a "cheap" 16GB sd card from ebay and it wasnt even bigger than like 300MB. There are ways to fake the memory size, and thats why when you try to put the music on your card is says its not there because there truly isnt any physical memory available. And also why it gives those weird readouts. Sorry to bust the news :/

According to HTC's website, the HD2 can support up to a 32GB SDHC (class 10 i believe)

There have been threads discussing how certain sd cards do not perform well in android devices, including the HD2. It has to do with some of the access times the cards are rated at.
I have tested a 32gb patriot class 10 card in the HD2 and samsung vibrant that made both phones freeze and run terribly slow until the card was removed.
Sandisk cards run flawlessly in the HD2 and I have only been using them for the past year, including a 32gb and a 64gb SDXC. The 64gb must be formatted as fat32 inside the phone before it can be used, but the full 64gb is available.

I agree with elesbb. Infact the same thing had happened to me about 4 years ago. What they do it put a memory hack in the SD card fooling it to think there is more memory. I would say if you bought it from ebay contact the seller first and
tell them you think it might be fake and you wish to get a real card asap. If they don't send you one or sound like they may be un-willing to then you should report them. Here's some information found on ebay's site about fake memory cards.
If you bought it from a different online seller you should still contact them about it and say you did some research and believe you recieved a counterfit item. In the link i shared above there are a few examples of how to spot fake cards including some pictures if you go through the links. I've read somewhere that if you have a sandisk and the class rating is in the corner then you more then likly have a counterfit one. Sandisk's class ratings should be centered in the middle of the SD card.

[Q] SD card compatibility issues? How to reformat?

So I have a few questions. I recently just got a Samsung Galaxy S4 Active and I have a Sandisk Ultra 32gb class 10 UHC-1 MicroSDHC card that was previously in a rooted Motorola Photon running CM10. I already wiped all the data and it is almost ready to put in the S4, I just wanted to reformat it just for the piece of mind and to restore it to out of the box condition. While I was googling how to reformat it to make sure I did it exactly right, I came across a bunch of forums on how Sandisk microSD's malfuntion and don't seem to work right in Samsung smart phones. Specifically the Galaxy line and the Note's. Has anyone experienced this problem? And is there anyone out there that has one of these cards in an S4 that actually works properly? I was so excited to gain 32 more gb of storage space on my phone, and now I'm scared =[ looks like I may have bigger problems now than just reformatting the card.
But speaking of reformatting. How do I reformat this card properly? And I also read that you should format it as exFAT? is that right? And I also read that formatting it through Windows can mess it up as Windows reformats it to work best with their system, not for phones. So is there a program anyone can recommend to use to reformat it? And could you also please give step by step instructions on how to reformat on said program. Like down to every option I should select, or shouldn't select. I want to make sure I do this exactly right and don't mess up my card. Especially with all of these horror stories I've been hearing.

I would recommend, however, getting a 64gb Samsung card from Amazon. Already exFat and works perfectly. Very fast--

Ehh.. I dont really need a 64gb card and don't really want to pay extra for space I dont need. Also I'm confused about exFAT. Ive seen a lot of posts on that as well and have read thst exFAT doesn't play nice in smartphones and that the only time it's really recommended is if you're rooted and on a custom ROM, which I'm not. I just gave up on reformatting and just put it in my phone last night as-is. It was completely wiped, so good enough. I don't want to take the chance messing with any of that. So far its been fine. But from what I've read it usually doesn't strike until a few months later. For right now I will keep my photos set to save on the internal just in case and the only thing im really going to put on the card is music, which I can easily get back off the computer if the card fails. Worst comes to worst sandisk has a lifetime warrenty and I have a reciept of the purchase so if anything happens I will just buy a 32gb Samsung or go with sandisk again. Apparrently the issue was with the ultra cards manufactured before or in December 2012 (which mine was). I also can't confirm this as I only saw one person say it in one forum, and it was neither confirmed nor denied by anyone else, but I saw someone say recently, I think last month, that the most recent huge update At&t pushed fixed the problem with Sandisk cards. So hopefully thats true. I guess I will just wait and see. Lol

As an update I have seen it mentioned to take card out of phone and put in card reader. Then plug into pc, right click and your will have your format choices. Also, there are Formatter programs to dl from web too. Been so long since I did that--kinda forgot--lol

I have recently reformatted my 32 gig card to exfat. Only been a week but no problems so far. Why did I? Because I down load movies that are over 4 gig on accasion. Plain fat doesn't let you store more than 4 gig. Hope that helps. Took me a while to figure out why my file transfers kept falling.

Note 3 SanDisk 64gb SDcard owners BEWARE!

If you own a class 10 SanDisk Ultra micro SD card for your note 3 then BEWARE!! I don't know what causes it but it will cause a bootloop for some reason...
If that happens, take battery out, take SD card out, boot up phone, go into settings>wifi>Hit menu button and choose "Advanced> and uncheck "always allow scanning". Power off phone, put SD card back in and boot up. No more bootloops! I heard this happens to 32gb models aswell.
Some people did factory resets and it still kept happening, so just uncheck always allow scanning.
Even if you own the card and never got a bootloop, just uncheck it just to be sure, it's not really important, and you won't have to worry about any bootloops. And yes, this happened to me while i was Stock rom and kernel unrooted, you never know.
Hope i helped!! Remember UNCHECK ALWAYS ALLOW SCANNING!!! IT'S BAD FOR NOTE 3'S WITH SD CARDS!!

I don't know, but my old Note 2 fried my 16gb SD card. Samsung phones have a reputation for frying/corrupting perfectly good SD cards after long periods of use, i don't know about the new Note 3 though, probably.

I reformatted my to fat. No issues.

Why on earth would scanning Wifi Access Points cause a SD card to cause a Bootloop? I think you are confusing scanning the extrenal SDCARD with Scanning WiFi Access points. While there IS the possible chance that this somehow helps a reboot issue, the two items have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with one another. Somewhere along the line someone confused MEDIA SCANNING (a fact of life with android and external SD Cards) and Wifi SSID Scanning, and true to internet style this piece of misinformation is EVERYWHERE.. I just found the SAME, WRONG information on someones Blog: http://www.etradesupply.com/blog/solve-samsung-galaxy-note-3-problems/ and guess what? HE states he got the info from... XDA... Its not in any way accurate, .. Please don't post information like this, because you saw it somewhere else... Google just published a report that shows that some 70-80% of all internet content is copied from somewhere else.

I am well aware of the issues people have had with SD cards. You got it working on the first day Sorry if you think it doesn't work or doesn't make any sense, or whatever, but it worked for me, and for my cousin on the Canadian Rogers Note 3 SM-N900W8, and probably a lot of other people too, so i'm just putting this thread out just in case someone (Like me) got a bootloop right after they put their SD card in, and trust me, you are not happy to get a bootloop the first or second day you get your phone.It is NOT pretty, well actually, the Note 3 is pretty pretty, but the bootloops are NOT pretty.

I have the 32gb and no problems here I have been using it for a year now

I have 2 Note 3 phones, one for my wife and one for me. Her phone has no issue with 64GB Sandisk, but I have had issues with two (took first one back before 15 day period was up) Notes until I followed this same advice from another site. Not sure why it works. I just know that it does. I would not discourage people from posting advice if you aren't experiencing the issue. You could stear someone away from a solution that might just work.

What model did you get? I heard only certain models have this issue.

I think that and the Canadian Rogers models are getting this issue, because i think Rogers uses AT&T models but just the name is kinda different, to set it apart from american and canadian.

Having same problems with SanDisk 32gb Class 10.....
Mine erased itself twice now...
Many note 2 users where having this issue with the same 32 gb class 10 mine remounting and mounting itself.There was a huge thread related to this and now I'm seeing more people with issues related to these 2 sd cards from SanDisk.

Sure did...Raiderman will tell ya...I was testing his release on his rom..And BAM I'm so glad I backed up everything on my sd card the day before, I lost over 300 pictures and so much important stuff....
Very good idea to Backup your SD card especially if you have a SanDisk class 10.

One time on my Note 2 my 16 gb (not Sandisk) SD card got fried and lost everything in it. I guess Samsung devices just don't like SD cards.

That's weird I have a 64gb card and have never had that issue at all. Only problem I ever ran into is that S'S didn't support then at first. But other then that never had a problem at all.

It seems the common thing here is that all cards are class 10. Is it possible that a class 10 card is too fast? I know I never paid attention to class and most of my cards with no issues have always been class 4 cards at 8 or 4 GB.
It to could be possible that this phones hardware can't address 64GB correctly. I don't recall seeing documentation that said it supported above 32GB.

I have a SanDisk Ultra® 64GB microSDXC™ UHS-I card for mobile devices .. used this in my Samsung Galaxy SkyRocket, Samsung Galaxy S 3, Samsung Galaxy Note 2 .. no problems .. wife is using it right now in my old Samsung Galaxy S 3.
I also have the SanDisk Extreme® PLUS 64GB microSDHC™/microSDXC™ UHS-I Card .. used it in my Samsung Galaxy S 4 with no problems .. now using it in my Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (SM-N900A) .. still, no problems !!
Only thing I do with BOTH cards, format the card in the phone .. that's it.

I'm the person that found the original workaround as posted here:

I validated the workaround several times. It has been copied or quoted at least two times and noted by numerous people that it actually works.
It may be that particular sd cards in combination with memory initialisation and particular OS components being loaded and/or initialized upon boot causes the problem.
Not all defects in software and/our hardware are 100% repeatable across all devices with the same basic configuration.
