LTE with att - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I've read the stickies and posted in the forum but I need yk see if anyone can help me out with LTE. I have att service on a stock non rooted n4 I've dialed *#*#4636#*#* changed my network type but it doesn't stick so I can't select lte in my settings and I'm not getting it regardless of my APN settings ... Anyone have any ideas of what's going on outside of rooting and flashing a different modem or radio .. Any help is appreciated ... Thanks

You need to flash a hybrid radio unless you never updated past stock 4.2.1,
newer radioes have the code disabled since it hasnt been approved by the FCC for LTE

The Nexus 4 does not support all of the AT&T LTE bands. It lacks the most commonly used LTE bands for AT&T and therefore can only be used in a couple of cities. If you do live in one of those cities, you need to unlock the bootloader and flash a hybrid radio.

OK I've been reading and I'm a little confused is there a solid working root and bootloader unlock for 4.4.2 ?

You can flash any baseband (aka radio) you want but, in order for LTE to work, you will need to flash a hybrid radio. For 4.4.2, you would need radio version .98 or .97

There was a recently released app that makes installing or changing either the hybrid or stock radios extremely easy. I used to use the manual method until this came along:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/themes-apps/app-nexus-4-modem-flasher-lte-enabler-t2607221
As was also mentioned, AT&T Band 4 is not available in too many areas, so don't be surprised if you never get LTE.

Can I run Fido LTE on Nexus 4?

Hi everyone,
I bought a Nexus 4 few months back for my gf and she has been liking it. It used to work with LTE on Bell but since 4.2.2 I think it is disabled. However, I am looking to buy one for myself now. I am on Fido (Rogers is mother company). Should I expect LTE to work on my Fido with an easy work around like changing the radio baseband?
I will be looking to order a new one tonight.
Any input is much appreciated.
Thanks
I am on Fido and LTE working, use .33 radio and search for the LTE instructions. I am assuming you know how to root and flash radio.

1- I hoped I never have to root a stock version from Google but I don't mind doing it if I have to. What are the disadvantages of Rootin or rolling back to .33 radio? I will have to weigh my options.
2- When LTE worked before the phone had to be set to LTE again upon restart, is that fixed now so it's a permanent change?
3- Is there a ROM that is a basic basic stock image (not like CM Mod) that I can use and yet enjoy the .33 radio?
Thanks
You have to root phone in order to flash old radio. 4.2.2 uses .48 radio, and LTE only works on .33 radio. So this have to be done. Please search around the forum on rooting and enable LTE. Good luck!

Thanks again. Does rooting void the warranty? If yes, is there any way to "unroot"

So, would the "unrooting" make the phone look just like it was never rooted or would Google know regardless?

Yep. Even works for RMAs. I unrooted, relocked the bootloader, and flashed back stock rom on my RMA Nexus 4 to send it back. Google doesn't know.

Get back 4G/Lte icon in status bar?

I am on Omega rom and after flashing the me2 stock and then Omega I have noticed my 4g icon has gone and it has been replaced with 3g. I know I have 4g because have done a speed test and it is around 3.5mb to 5mb per second compared to 1.2mb or so on 3g. So is there a way to get my 4g icon back? Thanks in advance.

Go to About Device -> Status and see which Data Type is displayed. 4G is displayed as LTE:14. 3G+ is displayed as HSPA:11.
3~5mbps is normal for 3G and not 4G. You are probably not getting 4G connection.

I checked my status and it is UMTS:3 on 3g and HSPAP:15 on H+ and I am with Telstra in Australia in a 4g area. It would display 4g when I was on stock.

LTE is probably disabled on settings then. My phone came disabled by default for some reason. To activate it go to Settings -> More Networks-> Mobile Network and check if LTE/GSM/WCDMA is enabled. That's probably the problem you are having.

Oh. I heard people having the same issue after flashing some firmwares. The one used on Omega is probably bugged for you. It doesn't happen for everybody. Try going back to stock or flashing a version of Omega that is built on top of another firmware version. I can't help you anymore. Good luck

Is there a way to extract my Baseband version (radio) from my stock TWRP backup. When I flash stock Telstra back my baseband stays as Me2 could this be the 4g issue, wrong baseband for carrier?

That's probably the issue. That's why it works for some people and not for others like you. I don't know how to extract it. I'll let other people answer this.

I have sorted it out all good got my LTE back.
1. Flashed stock Telstra backup with TWRP
2.Flashed Stock rooted ME2 with Odin 3.04. (3.07 doesn't contain the pit file and seemed to remove my LTE)
3.Flashed TWRP with Odin 3.04
4.Flashed Omega 3.0 with TWRP
All good with LTE and WiFi nice:laugh:
PS. When I did a factory reset in settings I lost my LTE when phone rebooted( wont do that again). It seemed to format the 2Gb partion for LTE settings dont know if it has something to do with TWRP just a guess?

4G not working, urgent

I flashed an international firmware on a Sprint S4, not knowing that it breaks root and custom recovery. I also lost my 4G. I can fix everything except the 4G. No idea how to begin, any idea?

Well you can begin by going to Sammobile and download the carrier's stock firmware. Flash it via odin. Stay on stock until you figure out how to fix 4G on custom roms.
Good luck, Im sure you'd be able fix it by flashing stock rom
Have you tried fishing the Sprint modem?

Sprint Modem? Can you go a bit more in detail please?
Indie offers an "EnableLTE.zip in the i9505 Omega Thread
This maybe fix the problem, OR AT WORST BRICK YOUR DEVICE
Honestly i have no idea if this works, so be careful.
Indie or another skilled person should know of this fix the LTE bug on your Sprint S4.

The modem is part of any full firmware and is usually different for each provider, region etc.
I believe the US lte frequencies are different to most of the other countries so if you don't have the correct modem your phone may be looking for the wrong frequency.
Try this link: http://www.rwilco12.com/downloads.php?dir=Files/Devices/Samsung Galaxy S4 (SPH-L720)/Modems
Flash the .tar file in odin in the phone section.
Edit: just remembered when the first ipad to have lte was released in Australia, Apple and resellers got into big trouble for marketing it as lte/4g. This was because although it was lte it didn't actually work with Australian lte frequencies. So as I mentioned above you will need a US modem. That's my best bet to get it going again.

Switched to tmobile

So i switched over to Tmobile this month and i'm struggling getting the 4GLTE data speeds. I did the APN settings trick and i really cant do much more that i know of. IM on the stock 4.3 ATT firmware and rooted using the Kingo method. I tried to install Safestrat 3.65 but i can get it working.. I could just install a Tmobile ROM if i could use a custom recovery but i havent found a way to do it without a softbrick. I've got less than 5Mbps down so thats crap..
Tmo, is not known for really good LTE speeds or coverage.

Incorrect T-Mobile when using a tmobile branded device has very strong lte speeds.
Yes the coverage can be spotty at times ... rarely!
The problem when using AT&T phone with T Mobile SIM cards is that the lte bands are always compatible.
The AT&T s4 does Carry four LTE bands I use it and get great LTE signal with tmobile service. ...only with the AT&T s4 for instance if you use an AT&T note 2 or s3 with T Mobile service it is really bad.
The reason behind The weak or dropped lte isnt really so much for about the bands it is actually how the device is tuned to work with that carriers service.
To get safestrap recovery working download the AT&T s4 safestrap recovery and install it. Just like in apk file just click install .
Everytime you power off or reboot the phone it will first come to safestrap screen then you choose to boot into recovery or continue to boot into the normal operating system by choosing the very bottom left menu button for recovery or the far right button to boot into the phone normal system .

Yeah I already tried to use Safestrap knowing it may not be compatible. I even used wanam to set my phone into SeLinux permissive mode. The only thing i can think to try is to download the tmobile 4.3 firmware from sammobile but they keep saying their in a transition to a different download server and the firmware hasn't been moved yet.. anyone have the 4.3 tmobile firmware tar and modem for ODin? It should work because they are both same phone just modified through firmware. That would also give me wifi calling and some other good stuff

Do not use T-Mobile stock firmware. The modem and kernel will not work and you will not be able to flash the correct stuff. The firmwares are not the same.
