[Q] N900W8 (Rogers) Back to Stock Issue [RESOLVED] - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I had an interesting issue I thought I'd share with folks in case they run into it. I have an N900W8 on the Rogers network. I used CF Auto-root to root, installed Philz recovery through Odin (3.07). I backed up the stock OS using Philz, then installed CM11 M5. I played for a couple of days, and then decided I wanted to head back to stock. I'm probably going to sell the phone soon so I wanted to make sure everything was clean. I restored the stock ROM, and when Philz warned that the stock ROM would likely overwrite recovery, I let it. I booted into my previous stock ROM and all was good. I checked software update and it said "your system has been modified". Shoot. I boot back out into download mode and see System and Firmware are set to Custom. All stock 0s everywhere else though, Knox hadn't been tripped. I was about to flash a stock firmware through Odin and I thought.. I wonder if I could use Kies? Sure enough, I fired up Kies 3 and did a Firmware Upgrade and Installation and 10 minutes later I had a stock phone. System and Firmware back to Official Samsung! All I did was boot the phone up in my restored stock ROM, plugged it in, ran Kies 3 and said "Firmware Upgrade and Installation" done.
Hope that might be helpful to someone!

[Solved] Cannot recover MJA system image

Hello,
This is will be my first XDA post ever since I always fix the most "brickiest" problems with all the Android based devices I have ever owned but not this time.
My Galaxy S4 has been updated to the latest MJA OTA (with successful CF root) and I have attempted to re-mod the hotspot service but this caused the annoying knox message to show. When attempting to restore the JAR and ODEX files, I think I have either overwritten the files in the incorrect order (ODEX -> JAR) and the phone rebooted as FX was trying to do that. So services.odex got corrupted and it was time for my to ODIN flash the MDC full stock rom as that USED to be my solution until Samsung's brand new knox protected bootloader. ODIN is not an option for me now, since the bootloader will prevent me flashing things like the pit, aboot and probably most of the other files inside the tarball. I can flash custom recovery and the MDC kernel successfully and that's about it. With custom recovery I have flashed rooted MF8 for the base operating system, and they applied the rooted MJA rom on top. The phone shows the S4 branding but then it reboots; It cannot boot into the operating system. I do not know the condition of the flash counter atm since I cannot check that in TriangleAway but it will stay "Official" under download mode, I think. I also do not know the versions of the firmware installed either in case something from MDC tar had an succession in replace some of the partitions. I am pretty sure the kernel however is still at MDC while I managed to install the system image of the MJA stock rom.
So my question is, what can I do bring back the working MJA stock rom image (/system and kernel) using TWRP recovery? Else I will have to go to Sprint and saying that the update from OTA has bricked my phone and that I have no idea how phones work.
Thank you.

Sorry, I forgot to add that I know that once you have MJA flashed, you cannot downgrade back unless of course someone figured out how to disable all the bootloader security but I really do not see that happening.
Fixed my own problem. Downloaded the official MJA stock tar.md5 rom from sammobile and flashed it, and managed to restore all my data using Titanium backup. This thread can be now closed.

[Q] Failed Custom Recovery Update w/ Dandroid 4.4

Phone: Samsung Galaxy S4 ATT I337UCUAMDL
Model Number in settings on 4.4 ROM = GT-I9505G
As the title says, I installed dandroid's newest 4.4 ROM from WICKED v5 4.2.2 and lost root. So I attempted to update my CWM Recovery from Odus 1x to the newest using Odin which failed do to write protected I suppose all though others says that doesnt effect their installs.
Where I'm at:
Cannot boot into recovery, says booting recovery the just reboots and enters Dandroid's ROM w/o root.
I'm now lost and have been reading the forums for hours. Currently downloading STOCK Samsung firmware for my device I337UCUAMDL_I337ATTAMDL_ATT.zip
CASUAL failed.
What do I need to do to get back to WORKING custom recovery w/ rooted dandriod 4.4 kitkat rom. Should I use Odin and flash stock rom then motochopper to root and try to reinstall working CWM recovery?
Please advise best course of action. My phone had been working properly with every ROM I tried before update to 4.4 ROM and attempted CWM recovery update (thinking that would fix my root issue). Thanks all!
If you have a nandroid, and I hope you do, just restore that in your custom recovery. If you don't, then you're going to have to return to stock with odin
Tried motochopper on the phone as it sits and it fails as well.
I have a stock backup but the problem is I no longer have access to any recovery. Guess I'm just gonna have to flash the stock firmware with Odin when its finished downloading and start over.
Just finished Odin flash back to samsung factory firmware. Phone stuck at att world logo on bootup, still can't access recovery. Any ideas?

If you flashed Odin successfully you can get into recovery.
Finally got into recovery it rebooted 3 times but just holding the req. buttons finally got me in.
Back on factory firmware and rooted w/ cwm recovery all back in place properly worrking.
I would like to use the Dandroid 4.4 ROM with this device. When I install am I going to lose root again and if so, how I do I get it back on this device since the model in the settings is going to change from I337 to I9505G after installing this ROM?
Figured it all out last night, re-flashed Dandroid's latest ROM which still caused me to loose root, then flashed SuperSU 1.51 instead of 1.80 and regained root. All is right in the world now.

Hey, if you dont mind me asking where did you get the 1.51 zip to flash? I'm having a similar issues with same ROM where i lost root but have recovery access.
Thanks
Update: Found the file. Flashed it. Root is back. Have you let market update it automatically? If so did you lose root afterwords?

[Q] Odin Flashing Problems with Note 3 and Kitkat

I have rooted my Samsung Note 3 with a custom rom running Jellybean 4.3 with clockwork mod recovery. I have tripped knox due to rooting it. When Kitkat came out March 17th 2014, I wanted to upgrade and go back to official firmware with Kitkat to try it out. Since I have rooted my phone to run viper4android audio kernel I am unable to do an official OTA or Kies update. That said I went about downloading the new Bell Canada Note 3 firmware 4.4.2. I was told to flash a Jellybean Bell Firmware first before flashing the Kitkat version to avoid boot loops or other problems. Trying to do so with Odin in download mode ended in failure just trying to flash jellybean stock. Didnt get that far really. It showed a fail in the Note 3 screen to this effect in read this message (sw rev check fail : sbl1 fused 2 binary 1) . Odin didnt load like I am usually use to seeing by unzipping the firmware into a folder and adding it to the PDA field. After I loaded the .tar file (md5) file into pda it checked it and then told me its finished successfully but the next line it said CS Fail. After hitting start it said fail instantly in the odin window and on the Note 3 I did see a bar showing me the progress of install for 1 second until odin told me of the fail. Now my Note is in download mode and can't get past this problem to get it running again! Please any help would be greatfull to getting me past this problem and onto Kitkat or even back to Jellybean. Any other questions you may have I will supply you the info.
Thanks

I havent been able to do anything. I was on Jellybean 4.3.2 custom rom with a custom recovery and tried to flash it back to a stock version of Jellybean before the update to Kitkat. I didnt get that far to even try flashing Kitkat because flashing Jellybean Canadian stock rom was unsuccessful with the errors I mentioned in my earlier post. Now I am stuck in download mode and unable to flash using odin.

I think you can power if off by pressing the power button for a few seconds. And then flash a custom recovery, reboot and flash a Kit Kat custom rom via Odin or Custom recovery. Hope it helps.

Knox was tripped. You said it yourself. Go and read up on Knox.
The answer will be very clear afterwards. It's quite clear to me.
Also, don't take this the wrong way.... but you probably should not have done any of this my friend. Your skill level makes this obvious.
I suggest not getting a Samsung phone next time as Knox is hard to get around (it's possible, I was rooted on 4.3 and I am now on 4.4.2 stock flashed with Odin and Knox is still 0x0).

HELP NEEDED Can't update to Lollipop

Alright, I have a Virgin Mobile S4. I rooted it a year ago with towelroot and installed clockwork mod on it to install cyanogenmod. I tried it, didn't like it so I restored my backup of the stock rom using CWM.
Fast forward to now. I tried to update my S4 OTA for Lollipop, but it would give me an error. I figured it was because I had changed the recovery software. So I went and downloaded the virgin mobile lollipop stock rom from sammobile. ( I337MVLUGOC4_I337MOYAGOC4_VMC ).
I tried to flash it onto my S4 using Odin 3.09. To no avail, it always failed at the system4.img.ext or something. From there I tried to make it work by using 3.10. Still failed. I googled for a fix or workaround and found something about reinstalling clockwork mod. I also tried reinstalling the PIT file for I337M. It was still not working. So I tried to flash back to my stock backup.
1st time I flashed, I kept having program that didn't want to start errors. I wiped dalvik, I wiped cache, I factory reset. Still bugged. So as a last resort I restored the backup again after having done all this. It worked! But...
Well, I'm at a lost now, I can't update using OTA, I can't update with Odin, I can't update with Kies. Now what? Is there a way to go back to the stock recovery and let the OTA or Kies update go through unhindered?
The proper place to ask this is in the AT&T S4 Forum as there are more people with that device who are able to help you. This is the International S4 forum, and while we can help you in a general sense, there may be something device specific we'll miss.
With that out of the way, with the ROM you downloaded, there would be no OTA updates when you installed it as it is the most current ROM available. Since Odin should have worked but didn't, you likely need to use a different USB port, and make sure you're not using a hub. Changing the port can often fix issues with Odin.
As @Strephon Alkhalikoi says this is not the place for it.
But there is one thing I notice. You are flashing an I337M firmware. Are you sure that's your model and you don't have an I337 (without M.

Bootloop even after flashing Stock in ODIN

Hello,
I had not updated the ROM on my phone in quite some time so I recently decided to update everything. I flashed an updated modem thru ODIN and then updated to some Android 5.0.1 and 5.1 roms.
I ended up having some odd reboot issues so I decided I would flash completely stock rom and go from there. I downloaded the most recent stock rom for my phone from SamMobile and flashed it thru ODIN. ODIN says passed and everything looks to have worked.
The problem is my phone will start and boot up to the point where I set up Android (choosing language etc) and then the phone reboots. This happens everytime.
Any advice or suggestions? I thought flashing stock would fix my issue!
UPDATE:
I flashed Stock thru ODIN again and it seems to be working now. I will update the post again if anything changes!
